Today I get an micro HDMI to HDMI cable from eBay, and tested it just few minutes ago, and I can only say, WOW. Great experience and quality of transfer, from watching simple pictures, to watching HD videos.
My long time problem with not being able to watch my favourite shows/movies on LCD is now gone because I don't need to burn all shows and movies to DVD's and then watch them in my crappy Samsung DVD player, which interrupts playing every 15-20 mins because of aged laser lens (not to mention limitation to standard definition .avi files only).
One more nice thing is, you can browse your phone on your HD LCD, and play some of your favourite games too, and they look really amazing.
The best thing I ever get for some of my phones from eBay. Ofcourse I could buy this regularry in some of the tech shops in my town, but this way it costed me about 30% less, with longer cable, and golden connectors.
Now excuse me, I'm going to watch Star Trek (2009) in HD...
Must say, I never thought that it would be that good quality. First time I plugged it in, though it was a bit of a gimmick. Wasn't very smooth and the quality was bad. However.....
As soon as I fired up a tv show, it suddenly changed to being crystal clear. Life On Mars played as good as it does on my PS3, also sounds great too. It's perfect to plug into a HDTV when your on holiday. No more need to lug around a laptop or many DVD's
I play with my phone using a 360 wireless controller, charging at the same time (livedock) and plugged to a bravia tv... Amazing...
To be honest I prefer playing that way with my phone than with the xbox360, the games are funnier and free...
I cant do that with my galaxy s2, thats why I love my arc s
Hahha, Overdose I thought I am the only Crazy guy playing like this! But you proofed me wrong! The only thing I own is an Xperia Arc and a no name TV which supports HDMI( 72op HD Ready) .. So , I got a controller from my friend -and started to get creative and end up using my phone as a console !
Guys, you're making me seriously thinking about getting a controller...
I'm not that much into console gaming, so you could maybe guide me about what controller you are actually talking about?
And how do you play games that require screen interaction (Angry Birds and so on...)?

To pair any ps3 bluetooth controller with your phone you need this app

Before buying that app you can check if your bluetooth controller work with it, using this app:

Anybody ever try this out? I had never heard of it till just now, watching Catfish on my PS3 and there was a little commercial thing for it. I just downloaded it and it's pretty neat. So far it's turned my EVO into a Blu-ray remote for my PS3, and it is surprisingly very responsive. I think it only works with certain Blu-ray discs but it's neat nonetheless. I'm gonna play with it some more but just thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Yeah man, agreed. This right here proves that it's entirely possibly. This one works over wifi but I'd imagine it's possible to create one that works over bluetooth and can control the actual PS3 directly instead of through the disc. I really wonder why Sony hasn't made an app for it themselves. Perhaps they would rather people just buy the actual remote...
From what I understand, you have to pay Sony to use the bluetooth connectivity. In fact, I'm not even sure that just anybody can use the bluetooth connectivity for remotes. It's the reason you never see a third party PS3 controller that ISN'T a dongle wireless connection. And from the PS3 XMB, you need a controller to connect and control the PS3.
While in video playback the same holds true as well. But the difference in this blu-ray remote is that Blu-rays can access and have Java content AND Internet connected content control the movie. All the Android remote is is a wifi and Java marriage controlling your Blu-ray content.
Sadly, it isn't simply your phone directly connected to your PS3. If you read about the remote, it actually has to connect to your home network THEN it'll connect to your PS3. It's not even a direct connection. I believe the whole process only works on those Blu-rays that specifically mention the pocket Blu app. The only one I own is a Universal movie (Back to the Future).
Yeah this is fun
Was at my brother in laws house and I saw the ad for it on the bluray. He didn't know what was going on when I would go to the root menu or fast forward the movie. Great fun.
Yeah sony is odd with not being alittle more open with what get connected.
My logitech headset will not work with the ps3 as for game audio being piped into tge headset but I can go buy a headset that costs near a used ps3

I got excited until i kept reading the posts . Makes be wonder if phones like the Xperia play and such will get more love from Sony towards the PS3.
Now if o could only play games using it as a on screen controller
I'm not a Mik.....but my EVO is!
Since the Sony BD remote is just bluetooth,
I wonder if it is possible to just emulate the handshake and calls that the BD remote does with the bluetooth chip on any phone.

Pretty sure it has less to do with people wanting the actual remote and more to do with Sony wanting to charge $30+ for the actual remote.
So when is an xbox remote control app coming to Android?
Hi all,
Really enjoying my first Android device here. I want to keep exploring the capabilities of what this phone possesses. Can anyone recommend that best emulators for SNES, Gameboy, PS1, Nintendo DS etc? Are any of them confirmed working for our device?
Please do not speak of roms. I just want to know what the best emulators are on the Play store, or possibly off of it that will work with our device.
Thanks
I'm pretty sure they all work I cannot confirm snes as I personally hate it but n64oid by far the best n64 emulator ice used has built in cheats specifically for the roms u load into it.

Robert Broglia makes some awesome emulators for Android and iOS
Click here to get to his Google Play page. For his SNES emulator here is a direct link CLICK ME. His SNES emulator is his only free one at the moment. If I am not mistaking, it is not in Google Play due to some problem with Google not understanding he is legally permitted to distribute the emulator. I highly recommend Robert's emulators.
As for Nintendo DS, I do not know if there is a fully functional one on Android yet. I have seen some apk floating around the net, but most users reported it being unplayable. PS1, there are a few in the Play Store, but I can not recommend one or the other as I have not used them.
Another vote for Broglia's apps. They are top notch.
Yongzh is awesome. I use gameboid, gbcoid, and n64oid. They're all available on slideme.org.
The only one he's charging for is n64oid and it works on a handful of games. Although we haven't seen an update in a bit of time. His work was on the android market but it was all removed by Google and he lost interest in updating everything.
Really hope a nds emulator comes out soon! Well, one that works well. Handheld consoles are the only ones that work great on phones Imo.

Trying to get my hands on the white Nyko, but so far release date was moved to 11/15/2012. Can't say that in all my time searching I found much of a smaller one. There is one on Kickstarter that is pretty small and fits as a keychain, but the problem is that the games have to SUPPORT the controller. So far, Nyko is the only controller I've seen that wont require this since it will have the options to customize touchpad, button control, etc. to the controller itself. IMO wait for the Nyko controller. The black Nyko is out right now.

not small and may not be cheap depending on what you may already have.
PS3 controller and a Gameklip - hard core awesome.
you can also use a USB PS3 controller or Xbox USB controller (native support IIRC) get a used one and chop the cable to short it with a $2 ebay OTG cable.

Well I managed to get the play pad pro a few weeks ago at a GameStop nearby and I gotta say its a solid controller but the compatibility isn't that great...it will work for emulators and games meant for gamepads like dead trigger but a ps3 controller u can map the touch screen to gamepad...a feature that nyko says will be in the future updates of their app. Their app as of now sucks but the controller has some dev potential ...honestly though I kinda wish I went with a ps3 controller where the dev is already here

After reading lots of review, I got this one http://dx.com/p/2-4ghz-wireless-dual-shock-joypad-controller-gamepad-for-pc-3-aaa-44217?item=14 . It's cheap and high quality. I have it for at least half a year. kids play with it a lot, without any problem.
Robust enough so it does not break. feels also heavy enough in your hands to give good user experience.
not need to install the driver - Plug and play worked on Win 7.
identical to brand-named joypads.
Thanks! Do you know if the regular playpad works the same way?

Just saw this on ebay.
Looks an awful lot like the Gametel with 2 analogs and a better dpad.
I quite like my phonejoy, though for some reason, the price has gone up (by $15) since I bought mine.
That's because shipping cost is now included I think.
I still wonder what I'm going to buy. I already got the Gametel but it feels cheap and really lack precision.
I play a lot of emulators and need something great for fighting games.
I don't feel really confident about Sony gamepad.
Their Dpad wasn't good back in the days, hard to make 2x quarter circle and stuff like that, but I never tried a PS3 controller though (are they really different from PS1 / PS2?).
I like the Logitech Dpad you can find on old RumblepadII and the F310-710 series.
But compatibility seems to be not that great from what I could find (few infos) and using the usb port (need to charge? stop playing ).
Phonejoy Dpad is great? you play fighting games?
this is pretty sweet i think im gonna buy one
Since I don't play often, and when I do it's just emulator stuff, I just use my Wiimote.

So I've been trying to figure out how to get my Acro S hooked up to a PS3 controller by a wire instead of using the Sixaxis Controller App. Wanted to try to avoid bluetooth because of battery life. But if you try to OTG cable the PS3 controller, the Xperia S/Acro S/Ion will spit out the error of "USB power consumption error". Basically our Micro USB port doesn't output enough power for the PS3 controller (yet a Galaxy S II does it just fine )
So then I discovered this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822653
Charging an Xperia and using OTG at the same time. Got me thinking. I can charge the phone while gaming and provide enough power to use the PS3 controller. All I really need is one of those USB battery packs and I can make this portable! No need for a dock. This is perfect. Gaming on the phone just burns away battery life. This would kill two birds with one stone.
So I ordered a few things online and I made the proper cable needed with the info from the thread above. Got a bunch of stuff of ebay, cut it up, solder it together and threw in some heat shrink.

Plugged the phone, USB battery pack and PS3 controller together... WTF?! Same error. Why won't it draw power from the USB battery pack. Eventually I figured it out. Went back online and ordered some more stuff. What I need to do is to take my custom cable and plug the Mini USB side into a USB Hub instead. That way the USB Hub will draw power from the USB battery pack and still charge the phone. And now that the USB Hub has plenty of power, it can now power the PS3 just fine.
So with a few extra parts I am able to make a mobile gaming dock for my Xperia Acro S. Without realizing it, by adding a USB Hub to this combo I can now how extra storage space by plugging in a USB flash drive. I could even watch more movies and watch them long due to the extended battery life.
Parts list:
- PS3 Controller
- GameKlip, for mounting the phone on the PS3 controller
http://buy.thegameklip.com/
- A basic case for your phone. Needed for mounting on the GameKlip. Just a simple backing case from ebay will do.
- Any USB battery pack, the one I am using is Maxpower E500i
http://www.maxpower.us.com/collecti...axpower-e500i-premium-v3-1-power-bank-5000mah
- A small USB hub, grab mine off ebay. Made sure mine had a Mini USB input.
http://www.amazon.com/Self-Power-Port-Black-Laptop/dp/B006Z9ULUY
- Easy to assemble usb connectors. Just ebay "diy USB" and you will know what I mean.
- USB to Mini USB & Micro USB cable. Ebay this as well. Only issue is the Mini USB only has the power wires. Lucky I ordered a bunch of them and cut up the cables I needed... or you could probably just buy the right kind of cables
- 100K Ohm resister. I just went to a local electronics shop.
- Some heavy duty double sided mounting tape
If your wondering, the weight comes in at 527g with my Acro S... a bit heavy but hey still works!
Thanks for reading!

My previous phone was the Xperia Play and I really miss the physical buttons on the phone, so when I saw the gameklip and when they finally provided a more universal solution it was a no brainier to buy it. I don't game too much but when I do, I have to do it right! Don't think I would bother trying to sell it. It's really annoying working with such tiny wires when trying to solder everything together. Too much work for something so simple.
I will probably change it a bit later. Maybe buy an extra battery pack (since I only have one and use it for many things) and have it dedicated. Also I was double sided mounting tape was just to quickly slap it together to see what it looks like. I think I will switch it to industrial velcro. That stuff has super sticky tape side. And it would be easier to separate the battery pack when charging or to remove half of the weight from the PS3 controller (and put it down on a table or in your pocket/bag).
johnnybalboa if you ever get it working with your AR drone, post it and show us your results!

Besides that there are Bluetooth Controller from ipega, gametel and Moga.
If any of community members have one of these lying around, please test it with nexus 5 and also provide small review.
I can't suggest the original MOGA controller. i got one last year when they were free. and, while being free, it was awesome, i wouldn't pay what they were asking. the controls were sticking and there just wasn't a good enough "feel" to the sticks and triggers.
i wouldn't hesitate to go with the moga Pro though as i have heard good things.
Red samurai works just fine.

I use a PS3 controller with the SIXAXIS app. It works quite well, especially for emulators.
Thanks
Thanks all for inputs.
Going to try the iMpulse controller and then when I get the Drone one from Kickstarter around Xmas, I'll report back to see if it works. LOL. I have been using my iMpulse on my N7 for a while now.
Voted for Moga Pro. I love it. Updates to the moga app have made it function a lot better as well. Originally had the OG Moga and it was NOT great. I used a PS3 controller before as well, but you don't get the benefit of attaching the phone to the controller. Also I don't know if the PS3 controller plays nice with apps in the Play Store. Emulators sure, but other games in the playstore have been updated to work with the controller.
THe Pro is GREAT

A fellow future drone owner! High five! :highfive:
OP, I tried my wired Xbox360 controller with the N5 the other day and couldn't get it to work without a 3rd party app. I installed the demo version of "USB/BT Joystick Center" and got it working. It's annoying though because you have to run the app and switch input methods every time you play a game. Also 7 feet of controller cord coming out of your phone is kind of ridiculous...

:highfive: back atcha
I like my Moga pocket for emulators using the universal driver, my Moga pro for moga enhanced games like gta and i leave my gametel in my work locker. mostly for emulators though.
Has anyone used a steel series free with the N5 yet that could comment on it's compatibility?
Ps3 controller. Buy the universal gameklip, and buy a cheap case... That is easy to get the office out of. And you have it all....

I'm not a huge mobile gamer (I prefer consoles) but I found a good deal on the MOGA Pro, and I'm in love with it.
I have played Dungeon Hunter 4, Modern Combat 4, Dead Trigger 2 all with tremendous success. I won my first MC4 match with a KDR of 3.5. The responsiveness is great, and you don't need to be rooted. The MOGA Pivot app does take up quite a bit of RAM though (more than I believe is needed... 40-60 MB)
It feels like an Xbox 360 controller, and if the game is programmed right, all the buttons will be mapped comfortably, and sometimes allow remapping within the game.
Share deal please

For how much you got MOGA Pro. decided to buy it after all positive feedback for it. please do share link if you got it online.
Anyone know of a good deal for the uk. Or any good deals
Don't want to spend a lot on a controller
some cheap branded dual axis controller works too.
Meanwhile I dig up some old stuff and found out USB controller which is copy of PS3 dual shock and works fine with OTG cable without installing any third party app.I bough it for like $6. I tried it with shadowgun and Dead Trigger 2 which worked fine. so I will use it until I find some great deal on Moga pro or new affordable controller is launched in market.
Anyone tried ipega 9017 with this phone? Thanks in advantage

Hi everyone,
Sorry to dig out this tread, but I'm now starting playing with Google cardboard, and I'd like to know if anyone succeed to pair the Xbox 360 wireless controller with a Nexus 5.
Anyone ?
Thanks
Ipega PG-9025
I have Ipega PG-9025 and it's really good, for only 20-25$ you get dual "true" analogs, media keys, rechargable ~7 hour battery, L2 and R2 keys, 8direction cross and phone holder. Great value, has a soft touch plastic shell, which matches Nexus 5's shell. It's easily detected by emulators and tincore keymapper, can be used with iPhone and PC. But DON'T buy PG-9017!

You need to use the wireless receiver.
