I am interested in getting a gamepad for my PDA. I am not impressed with the joypad on the magician, at least for games. Also, I don't want to log that kind of wear. The only thing I have found is that folding bluetooth monstrocity that is being sold under all kinds of different names (freedom, chainpus, etc.).
I am not that picky, but that unit looks like the worst piece of product design I have ever seen. Bulky, and ackward. Is there anything else? I don't really care about BT. A cable it fine. I just want a straight forward gamepad for MAME arcade stuff. BT is nice, I guess, but playability is more important.
Does anyone have recommendations? Am I being too hard one the folding BT gamepad? Any reason why one of the numerous X-box BT pads wont work? This is the only thing keeping my Magician from fully satisfying my desires...
There is a cabled game pad for the ipaq series, maybe that could be rewired for the xda, I imagine the drivers will work ok.

Does that chainpus pad work with emulators like gegg and pocket snes and not just games specificaly for the ppc?
I wouldn't mind finding out some more of this also. What I do know is this... You wont find a wired gamepad that will work on the Magician. No USB or Serial host. Xbox or PC bluetooth gamepads won't work unless you can find drivers for them.
Now here's the big question I have. What bluetooth service does the pad use? Serial? I know the Magician supports the serial profile, but are the gamepads on some profile the phone doesn't have?
I want it for the PSX emulator floating around! Nothing better than playing Tekken 3 at 17fps and bashing the touch screen to hit "virtual buttons"! NOT!
Here is an email I sent to PocketGames [[email protected]] and their response...

Hello,
I am interested in the Zeta Joy-Pad. Is there a version for the XDA 2 Mini... (Also known as the Imate Jam)
From: '[email protected]'
Subject: RE:Zeta Joypad
Sorry, there's no XDA2 mini version.
The thing is, they have stopped production of all zeta joypad.
Thank you,

Wich psx emulator is that? You got it running on your jam? I had fspce and it didn't run. cheers
I have the same one. Chances are there may have been an error in your game rip. Did you manage to at least get it to the main screen so you could try to open a game?
Oh, and you need a playstation bios. Grab one of these from a P2P network. The file names are listed on the emulator website.
I also found that if you start a game in landscape mode, it crashes. Start the game and get past the title screen in portrait, then switch.

I actually bought this gamepad when it first came out (for $100 ), and I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed. There's a slight lag the further you are from the device, but the Jam fits perfectly in between (and I even have a silicone case on my Jam). The gamepad simply adds more buttons to your Jam, so basically it works with every program, not just games (i.e. you can map a button for Windows Media Player). Therefore, it'll work great on roms (I used to play Street Fighter 2 all the time at work before I got GPRS). One warning, the motherf*cker sucks up batteries relentlessly, so you might want to get rechargeable batteries, or some batteries that simply will last long.
Hopefully this answers any questions. Feel free to ask some more.
I had a look at those gamepads. Damn they're expensive! Cheapest one I saw was US$119! Bugger that for an idea, they can keep it!

They're actually going for $50 last time I checked. I paid close to $100 for it..
Yeah, my bad. It was actually on an Australian site. Works out to be around US$70. I've found cheaper still at some US sites so it would be cheaper for me to import it.
i've got a freedom game pad. Cost 77 euro.
It work fine and i use it for most ppc games and emulation..fpsce, morphgear ecc.
Great deal
G'day,
for those who bought the gamepad, izzit any good when comes to landscape games?
Anyone tried this beauty?

If you are interested in alternatives to the MSI or Chainpus BGP100 bluetooth gamepad, google search "modded by bacteria" go to the "work in progress" section of his forums, and search for the thread "Re-housed Bluetooth controller". The creator of the site, Bacteria, will be transplanting the innards of the BGP100 into an SNES controller. Previously, he has transplanted it into a PS1 controller. It seams feasible to DIY into almost any controller housing.
you'd better check on http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_kw=Game&_kw=pad&_kw=magician prices range from under $ 100 and free shipping

Anybody ever try this out? I had never heard of it till just now, watching Catfish on my PS3 and there was a little commercial thing for it. I just downloaded it and it's pretty neat. So far it's turned my EVO into a Blu-ray remote for my PS3, and it is surprisingly very responsive. I think it only works with certain Blu-ray discs but it's neat nonetheless. I'm gonna play with it some more but just thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Yeah man, agreed. This right here proves that it's entirely possibly. This one works over wifi but I'd imagine it's possible to create one that works over bluetooth and can control the actual PS3 directly instead of through the disc. I really wonder why Sony hasn't made an app for it themselves. Perhaps they would rather people just buy the actual remote...
From what I understand, you have to pay Sony to use the bluetooth connectivity. In fact, I'm not even sure that just anybody can use the bluetooth connectivity for remotes. It's the reason you never see a third party PS3 controller that ISN'T a dongle wireless connection. And from the PS3 XMB, you need a controller to connect and control the PS3.
While in video playback the same holds true as well. But the difference in this blu-ray remote is that Blu-rays can access and have Java content AND Internet connected content control the movie. All the Android remote is is a wifi and Java marriage controlling your Blu-ray content.
Sadly, it isn't simply your phone directly connected to your PS3. If you read about the remote, it actually has to connect to your home network THEN it'll connect to your PS3. It's not even a direct connection. I believe the whole process only works on those Blu-rays that specifically mention the pocket Blu app. The only one I own is a Universal movie (Back to the Future).
Yeah this is fun
Was at my brother in laws house and I saw the ad for it on the bluray. He didn't know what was going on when I would go to the root menu or fast forward the movie. Great fun.
Yeah sony is odd with not being alittle more open with what get connected.
My logitech headset will not work with the ps3 as for game audio being piped into tge headset but I can go buy a headset that costs near a used ps3

I got excited until i kept reading the posts . Makes be wonder if phones like the Xperia play and such will get more love from Sony towards the PS3.
Now if o could only play games using it as a on screen controller
I'm not a Mik.....but my EVO is!
Since the Sony BD remote is just bluetooth,
I wonder if it is possible to just emulate the handshake and calls that the BD remote does with the bluetooth chip on any phone.

Pretty sure it has less to do with people wanting the actual remote and more to do with Sony wanting to charge $30+ for the actual remote.
So when is an xbox remote control app coming to Android?
Hi,
I love to play on the go but as much as i like the creative touch games we can play on our high end device i prefer playing with buttons.
The possibility to emulate Gameboy and N64 is awesome as soon as you get a Bluetooth gamepad.
I started looking for a gamepad with the possibility to mount my s3.
This stuff is expensive!
Ordering an iControlpad to germany would cost me a hundret dollar.
I found some alternatives but none with good quality and affordable price.
I have a lot of Nintendo Wii stuff lying around but remembered the app which connects wiimotes to android phones via bluetooth had issues on most newer HTC and Samsung Phones.
Turned out it works like a charm on ourS3!!!
So I hacked something together from a wiimote and and one of those steering wheels
You can buy both for less than 25$ (non original wiimotes are totaly sufficient as you need the buttons only.
I first disassembled the wheel giving me 2 halfs. On The one half i cut out some space for the s3 adding some duct tape for protection (this thing could even be pretty if you use white tape)
If you are left handed you are done now
Otherwise you will notice that the wiimote fits in the wrong way - more plastic to remove.
Here are some pictures:

I added some tape behind the phone to lift it up a bit.
Playing is pretty safe - the phone cant really fall of. With a bit of precice cutting one could make it fit really tight.
Happy crafting guys

Great job! I'm hoping to get someone with better skills then me to get a holder for a PS3 controller. I'm surprised there isn't even a big aftermarket for holders for 360/PS3/Wii controllers with smart phones. Unless I'm searching the wrong areas.
I am looking for a pad too, I remember a little one handed joystick type pad being released a while back but can no longer find it.
Also there was an msi Bluetooth pad I was thinking about purchasing when I owned a hd2 but I can no longer find that for sale.
Surely there must be some little gaming pads that are portable. It's the only thing I will miss about my xperia play.
Im sure there would be a great market for a good quality pad for android, one styled like the old square nintendo pad would be awesome.
Does anyone know of pads available? For shipping in the UK preferably.
Sorry for going off topic.

Thanks! I made a couple prototypes with an xbox controller, but I couldn't find any way to gracefully deal with the 15' cord. The dualshock3 makes for a much better overall experience It's available for pre-order for $15.
Today I get an micro HDMI to HDMI cable from eBay, and tested it just few minutes ago, and I can only say, WOW. Great experience and quality of transfer, from watching simple pictures, to watching HD videos.
My long time problem with not being able to watch my favourite shows/movies on LCD is now gone because I don't need to burn all shows and movies to DVD's and then watch them in my crappy Samsung DVD player, which interrupts playing every 15-20 mins because of aged laser lens (not to mention limitation to standard definition .avi files only).
One more nice thing is, you can browse your phone on your HD LCD, and play some of your favourite games too, and they look really amazing.
The best thing I ever get for some of my phones from eBay. Ofcourse I could buy this regularry in some of the tech shops in my town, but this way it costed me about 30% less, with longer cable, and golden connectors.
Now excuse me, I'm going to watch Star Trek (2009) in HD...
Must say, I never thought that it would be that good quality. First time I plugged it in, though it was a bit of a gimmick. Wasn't very smooth and the quality was bad. However.....
As soon as I fired up a tv show, it suddenly changed to being crystal clear. Life On Mars played as good as it does on my PS3, also sounds great too. It's perfect to plug into a HDTV when your on holiday. No more need to lug around a laptop or many DVD's
I play with my phone using a 360 wireless controller, charging at the same time (livedock) and plugged to a bravia tv... Amazing...
To be honest I prefer playing that way with my phone than with the xbox360, the games are funnier and free...
I cant do that with my galaxy s2, thats why I love my arc s
Hahha, Overdose I thought I am the only Crazy guy playing like this! But you proofed me wrong! The only thing I own is an Xperia Arc and a no name TV which supports HDMI( 72op HD Ready) .. So , I got a controller from my friend -and started to get creative and end up using my phone as a console !
Guys, you're making me seriously thinking about getting a controller...
I'm not that much into console gaming, so you could maybe guide me about what controller you are actually talking about?
And how do you play games that require screen interaction (Angry Birds and so on...)?

Now that we have Nexus 5 in our hand, has anyone tried different wireless gaming controllers with it? I am planning to get one for decent price as gaming could be more fun for obvious reasons.
if I am not wrong nexus 5 (as some other phones) should work fine with xbox and PS controller, someone please verify if they works on not.
Besides that there are Bluetooth Controller from ipega, gametel and Moga.
If any of community members have one of these lying around, please test it with nexus 5 and also provide small review.
I can't suggest the original MOGA controller. i got one last year when they were free. and, while being free, it was awesome, i wouldn't pay what they were asking. the controls were sticking and there just wasn't a good enough "feel" to the sticks and triggers.
i wouldn't hesitate to go with the moga Pro though as i have heard good things.
Red samurai works just fine.

Thanks all for inputs.
Going to try the iMpulse controller and then when I get the Drone one from Kickstarter around Xmas, I'll report back to see if it works. LOL. I have been using my iMpulse on my N7 for a while now.
Voted for Moga Pro. I love it. Updates to the moga app have made it function a lot better as well. Originally had the OG Moga and it was NOT great. I used a PS3 controller before as well, but you don't get the benefit of attaching the phone to the controller. Also I don't know if the PS3 controller plays nice with apps in the Play Store. Emulators sure, but other games in the playstore have been updated to work with the controller.

OP, I tried my wired Xbox360 controller with the N5 the other day and couldn't get it to work without a 3rd party app. I installed the demo version of "USB/BT Joystick Center" and got it working. It's annoying though because you have to run the app and switch input methods every time you play a game. Also 7 feet of controller cord coming out of your phone is kind of ridiculous...

I'm not a huge mobile gamer (I prefer consoles) but I found a good deal on the MOGA Pro, and I'm in love with it.
I have played Dungeon Hunter 4, Modern Combat 4, Dead Trigger 2 all with tremendous success. I won my first MC4 match with a KDR of 3.5. The responsiveness is great, and you don't need to be rooted. The MOGA Pivot app does take up quite a bit of RAM though (more than I believe is needed... 40-60 MB)
It feels like an Xbox 360 controller, and if the game is programmed right, all the buttons will be mapped comfortably, and sometimes allow remapping within the game.
Share deal please

Ipega PG-9025
I have Ipega PG-9025 and it's really good, for only 20-25$ you get dual "true" analogs, media keys, rechargable ~7 hour battery, L2 and R2 keys, 8direction cross and phone holder. Great value, has a soft touch plastic shell, which matches Nexus 5's shell. It's easily detected by emulators and tincore keymapper, can be used with iPhone and PC. But DON'T buy PG-9017!

You need to use the wireless receiver.
I bought a MOGA Pro for my tablet way back. It turned out that it sucked so badly I felt like I got robbed $50 by the company (massive size for the pivot app, doesn't work that well cross-platform, etc).
Now that I have the N5, and after having talked with a fellow who had owned a MOGA Pro in the past as well, I am thinking about getting a generic bluetooth controller (probably the PS3 one) and a mounting unit. So far, only Gameklip seems to be the only one in this market (with this being the only viable option for N5: http://buy.thegameklip.com/products/gameklip-casemount).
My question is: is there an alternative to Gameklip, one that is specifically built for N5 (or, with an adjustable holder)?
Not sure but I have heard that moga has upped their game quite a bit.

Nope, but I'm subscribed to the XDA thread and haven't seen it mentioned, haven't noticed anything myself either although I rarely use my Moga these days

Uh, because that thread is pretty much dead for quite a long time? Lol. Also, that app still requires you to have the pivot app installed as well, which is kinda confusing (why do I need still need that memory hog of an app in order to run the 3rd party app?)
Check the review in the play store itself.

No it doesn't. I only have the moga universal driver installed. Never put the pivot app on. No issues with epsxe, fpse, snes9x, nesoid, etc. I actually just started it up and connected to the controller and pressed the 'stop pivot services' button and it told me "pivot services are not running, nothing to do". I use the moga pro on my N5, my kindle fire (1st gen), and my Nook HD+ all without any issue and without the pivot app. In fact, there's a review on amazon telling you exactly that - which helped me make my purchase decision.
I'm actually very happy with my moga pro - especially since I got mine used from amazon warehouse for $27 and it was perfect - like new. I also have an old DIY MSI barebone (GX620 equiv) with a 9600m GT and built in bluetooth that is just good enough to use pcsx2 and I use the Moga Pro a ton with that laptop that I have re-purposed as a mobile emulator box using every emu that you can get.

This is from the latest version of the universal driver app, right? No slowdown issues at all?
Also, you mentioned that you used it to play emulated games on your laptop. Were you able to use all buttons on the controller with no problem?

Yep. I just went back to CM from stock on my Nook and played some KF2 (I still don't know why I like the kings field games) without any lag or any issue.
On my laptop, the l2 and r2 buttons when mapped to l2 & r2 show up as "accelerator & brake" in pcsx2 but map and work correctly. I don't remember how I mapped them in epsxe on my laptop... I'll post back. I remember a work around was involved... some key mapper tool...
I hated the Moga Pro. I bought this instead and I love it. Handles the Nexus 5, the shape is just like the xbox 360 controller, and it's only $26.

May be a little off topic, but can this controller be connected on a PC through BT as well? Interested in using it with my N5 and Dell Venue 8 Pro...
Im coming from an xperia play, loved that phone. And bought a moga hero to replace last years moga pocket. Been given much better reviews. But ill post my thoughts here when ive had some time with it.

According to this thread on reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1r2q0f/gameklip_perfect_fit/
the GS3 Gameklip fits perfectly with the N5. I ordered one last night and will confirm when it arrives but I am stoked that it might.
I was bummed the Nexus 4 needed an ugly case and use my N5 naked anyway. So it would appear you don't need an alternative just an S3/S4 gameklip!
