FireTV 3 wont play UHD from prime - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone having this issue or can tell me how to fix.
I have a firetv 3 with a samsung UHD tv.
When I try to play any UHD content from prime I get the message that the HDMI port is not HDCP 2.2 compatible.
I have tried in different HDMI ports and I still get the same message (all ports on my TV are HDCP 2.2 compatible!)
I have got a picture of the error message

Content is protected by the publishers and not all equipment supports all the standards. In order to play it, every piece of your system must be compliant. Your Fire TV 3 is, your HDMI cable may not be, your AVR may not be, and your TV may not be. The documentation that came with your equipment will say what it supports or you can Google it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
UHD also means lots of different things too. such as HDR (high dynamic range, deep color), HDR10, and DV (Dolby Vision). The newer 3D sound formats, such as ATMOS offer another level of complexity. Your 3 supports Atmos which is basically the addition of height. I don't think you can do it without ceiling speakers but manufacturers claim they can fake it.
That's the best I can wrap my little brain around it.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
The Fire TV3 is plugged directly into the usb port so no cable to make the signal change.
Ive got a Samsung KS8000 4k TV so it meets all of the standards that you spoke about, and did play the 4k content from my firebox (second generation)
I have tried all USB ports and I still get the same message.
Interestingly it does work sometimes though. but once you turn off the program and try to watch again I get the above message again.
Just dont understand it!

Sometimes works is a clue. I searched your TV and it seems to support the higher standards. I presume "plugged directly into the usb port" is a typo and you meant HDMI. Your HDMI ports are 2.0 and the set is HDCP 2.2 compliant so they shouldn't be the problem. Have you checked the Pendant's video output settings? Are there any obscure TV settings missed? Sounds a lot like a bad HDMI cable but yours is part of the FTV and very short. Any chance it has been damaged or the plug has been damaged? I kind of think suspending the box from the cable and port is a dumb idea. Tried wiggling it while online? Still have your 2? If so, does it work? That might tell you something.

Hi Sorry for the late reply. I have been in work!:crying:
Yes that was a typo I meant HDMI rather than USB.
I have the fire pendant plugged directly into HDMI port 2. I checked the video output settings and I have set it to upto 4k. I have set the scaling for my TV and that is fine.
I asked amazon to change the fire 3, which to their credit the did and sent me a new on... unfortunately the same thing happens. The weird thing is netflix will still play in 4k when I get this message about amazon content.
I still have my firetv 2 and I did as you suggested and tried that... plays without ant issues whatsoever.
Im so confused. Not sure if this is a firmware bug or something else!
Thanks for your help again

Looking for a micro usb to rca adapter for tv

Hey everyone, I unfortunately don't have an HDTV, so I can't use an MHL adapter. So can anybody recommend to me a good micro USB to RCA adapter that I can use on a TV?
Ummm wow. Uh you can pick up a MHL adapter and maybe try to convert HDMI to VGA (analog signal) then VGA to RCA.
The HDMI to VGA convert the signal from digital to analog required for what your looking to do.
I suggest monoprice for the adapters because it may not work. I think the phone requires some kind of communication from the TV before it will output at all.
Maybe go to radio shack and ask them. They work off commission and usually let you try the parts in the store before you buy it.
LTE EX Galaxy Nexus CM9
Asus Transformer Revolver
I was looking at monoprice and I couldn't seem to find one cable that would do it, and I was hoping that I didnt have to use adapters on adapters to get the job done.
I found this on amazon: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463383511&pf_rd_i=915398

but unfortunately it goes from the headphone jack, which I would assume doesnt send out the picture quite as good as from the usb, but hey for less than a buck (canadian) what do i got to loose right?
But I would still like some suggestions on what I could use through the micro usb
Please don't order that you are wasting your money, the phone doesn't support analog out of the headphone jack. Also you can't convert a digital picture to analog via cables. There is no way to go from HDMI to RCA without expensive conversion in which case you should just buy a HD TV.
Damn not the news I was hoping for, thanks though for the insight!
Search Amazon for B0047PDBP0, you've looking for an HDMI to composite (not component) video converter. However, even a cheap one is ~$50 and the quality won't be great even with a good one. You may be better off putting that $50 towards an HDTV. Amazon also has a few cheap 720p models in the $100-150 range.
Really??????

I hate to say it, but after all the crap you need to go from MHL to HDMI to component to composite, you'd be cheaper off with a 20" HDTV from your local electronics store.

there are cheap ones on ebay.. i dont know if the phone outputs the required data for this cable to work, however.. has anyone tried? i'm interested because i only ahve composite video available on the screen in my car
Without d/a conversion the signal is still digital and not analog regardless of the plug(s) the adapter changes the HDMI cable into. If your screen supports a digital input, then it might work, but I doubt it does.
if you already have an MHL cable, then youre $50 away from getting what you want http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CNiDrvDUmLQCFelDMgoduyAAtg

easycap
Would easycap work here? I am not sure but thinking if can connect andorid phone to CRT tv using easycap and usb to micro usb adopter. Did any one tried already?
Actually some interesting solutions found on amazon, just aroud 20$
from microUSB directly to RCA, USB charging cable included
(unfotunately XDA still doesn't allow me to post URLs)

Would tis work? nettop

Well I didn't want to explain this all so made this huge picture but it's pretty much what i want to do. Does anyone know if this will work or if there is an easier way of doing this.

It would have to be a powered USB hub. Besides that, it could work. Although, you're not likely to get much computing power out of it... meaning not much word processing or any heavy tasks, really. I'd guess that HD video would probably be out of the question. IMO you'd be better off getting a low end netbook.
Thanks! Yeah just looking to be able to go home and be able to write text with a keyboard and watch youtube videos and such. Maybe even build a docking station with a wooden box or something to hold all the wires. My biggest dilemma is the HDMI cable going through the USB hub.

Yeah, you might sacrifice a bit of resolution like that. I'm not sure you can carry 1080p through USB.
But for the basics, email, surfing, texting and youtube...I think it'd work
on the side of that mhl adaptor it looks like there is a micro usb port and a search on ebay had similar, so plug the mhl directly into the phone and then hdmi to tv/monitor and the micro usb on the side of the mhl to the usb hub.
if the above is not the case then
i would elimnate that gender adaptor coming from the hub out to the female usb to female micro usb, just get a male usb to female micro usb.
the last time i check usb hosting was not supported? pls tell me im wrong tho

Are you sure the device supports simultaneous multiple BT connections?
Also, there are more comfortable BT keyboards out there. I've got the HP, it's got the same spacing/layout as my 15" laptop.
I have simultaneous connections to my Moto S9 headset (music playing), keyboard and mouse. No problems. The music skips once when you connect another device but then everything works perfect.
A bigger keyboard would be nice but this one was cheap.
The mouse is great with android. Right mouse button goes back. Middle mouse is menu. Scroll wheel works great.

Excellent. I didn't mean to sound accusative, I just wasn't sure the multiple device support was there.
Then yeah, @the OP, I'd definitely use BT, too!!
The HP kb rocks, and I got mine (an open box display) for around $20.
This is what I want to do as well. Has anyone been able to get host mode to work with external storage on a non-ICS ROM?

MHL cables with no micro-usb?

I'm looking to buy a MHL cable, so I've been browsing ebay.
I found this one which is nice because its length (4 meters, 13 ft) allows me to be on the couch while having full access to the phone.

The problem is, my TV doesn't has an USB port, and I don't see any micro-USB female port on that cable.
Am I buying a crippled/broken cable or am I missing something here?
I've seen other MHL cables (3 meters, 10 ft), which look like they have a female micro-USB port (for connecting either the power or the USB cable)... the problem is that they ship from Hong Kong... which takes a whole month to arrive!
1 for phone (micro-USB male), 1 for power/charging (USB Male) and 1 for HDMI port in TV.
I bought this cable and it works perfectly. So I have near TV laptop with USB
HDMI to RCA
Guys will this cable work?

That's rigth, the MHL cable needs a power connection, in this case is using the USB connection to do that, the MHL Samsung Original cable needs to connect the AC Adapter or USB cable to works.
You has to have a PC near to connect maybe.
it is simple, really. mhl needs a connected charger.
the cable suggested in the OP seems to be layout to use a tv's usb port, so the power supply will be at the end which also has the hdmi port.
the regular mhl cables, like the samsung original one, are just an 8" cable with required power supply via micro usb (female) at the end of the phone. pro: it also comes with a female hdmi port, so you can vary the length of the cable to match your usage profile, while the other one is fairly hard to extend.
either way, you will need a power supply, either on the side of the phone, or near the tv.
PS: have you thought about using an AC usb power connector for the power supply of the cable in post #1. these are fairly common, cost no more than 1$, and i assume, there is a power outlet near your tv.

[Q] MHL adapter going bonkers?

Hello everyone are your MHL adapters working fine? I recently purchased an MHL adapter for my Gnex with the intention of viewing videos and movies on my big screen TV. I bought a no-name brand adapter. I tried it in store before purchase and it worked no problems except the picture is a bit cut off. I *think* I remember reading that most adapters do this? So I didn't make a big deal about it.
When I got home I tried to play some movies and after a few mintues (varies sometimes it does it after 15, 30, or X amount of minutes) the TV goes blank like it doesn't have a signal then quickly after 2-3 seconds the movie comes back on. It is really annoying because the movie will pause (with MX Player) so I have to get up from my seat and manually play it again. It does it so often that I stopped using the adapter but before I did I tried to do some testing.
It seems to me that the phone/adapter (not sure which) is trying to rotate the screen. I set the phone to airplane mode with auto rotate off and it doesn't do it as frequently but it still does it enough to be annoying. So what say you XDA? Anyone else experiencing this? Is it the cheap adapter? The phone? The software (tried MX player, VLC, and another forgot the name) and they all did this. I tried changing settings in the apps to always be in landscape mode but still it blanks out,
TLDR:
-bought no name brand MHL adapter
-tried to play movies using 3 different apps
-everytime I play a movie after a few minutes the screen blanks out like it's trying to rotate the screen
-auto rotate is off and apps are set to play in landscape mode only
This is the exact adapter I have:

Thanks for the input. I'll try that stay awake option. But I'm thinking chrisinsocalif might be right... just a low quality adapter. It's kinda difficult to find any decent quality ones here in Vietnam without paying out the ass. I could order from the internet to my house in Cali but then the shipping and time to get here is a pain.

yeah i also agree, it's likely that it's just the low quality adapter.

Inserting multiple USBs at the same time: possible?

Hello there, fellow members!
Last night with a friend we were discussing some stuff about the Ouya, and the next idea came into my mind: I would only purchase one because of the emulators and being able to connect it via HDMI. But wait, I can actually do that with my phone. What if I plug in an HDMI cable, a PS3 joystick and the charger into my ZL? It would be a nice way to play PS1 or N64 games. But yes, then I realized that the phone only has one USB entrance, which is the same for any of the above mentioned pheripherals.
So, what brings me here is the following question: are there any USB adapters with multiple slots compatible with our phone? If I tried a generical PC one, would it work? Or using three different functions in a hole that's made to support one at a time could damage the phone?

One of these, for example (combined with a mini-usb adapter on the cable), would work?
Thanks in advance, and best regards =)
I don't know if our ZL can handle multiple USB devices. But if you want to try it, you would need a USB Hub with external power supply because I don't think that our phone can put out that much power.
I think the Ouya has several device-exclusive games, but the ZL can play indeed Android games and emulators.
However, I think the only way to do what you have in mind is to:
1) Connect the PS3 'joystick' via Bluetooth. That way, you won't have to use the MicroUSB port.
2) Have an MHL cable for the MicroUSB to HDMI.
However, with point #2, powering the device will still be uncertain. The MHL (2.0) specs allow for powering your device when connected, but
A) Your TV will have to support MHL as opposed to HDMI.
or
B) Your MHL-to-HDMI adapter works as backward compatible HDMI, and requires external power to work.
In both cases I don't know whether the phone will charge and if it even does, whether the power will be sufficient to compensate for the (added bluetooth) power usage of the device.
It is for this 'contraption' that I initially wanted a device with both MicroUSB and MicroHDMI port, so more connectivity would be possible.
Anyway, I ordered all accessories I need to test this (but I don't have an MHL-supporting TV), expect info on this as I find it out.

The concept is interesting but the problem with the ZL is the battery life, if the battery will not be able to get charge, you only be able to use it for around a hour or hour and half playing games or watching videos from a 100%.
Sent from my C6506 using xda app-developers app
I hooked up my ZL to my monitor yesterday, using MHL to HDMI. Output worked when I supplied power to the adapter, sourced from the monior's built-in USB hub. The ZL was charging while the MHL cable was connected.
I streamed a 1080P MKV movie over local WIFI , other services(data connection/bluetooth/NFC) were turned off. After the movie was done, I checked the power usage and the battery level had remained pretty much the same throughout the movie.
So I think with MHL to HDMI, the device is only able to retain its battery level, rather than charging it to full. Having said that, the screen was turned on the entire time throughout the output; if I can turn off the screen while viewing, this could save the battery some more.
I'll perform more tests this weekend; I want to use Bluetooth as input device (I've somewhat given up on having Infra Red controls) and have audio played through the ZL speaker rather than over HDMI to my monitor (that has no speakers built in). Ideally I would want to combine this with my USB Host / OTG 4-port USB hub, but alas MHL and USB Host are mutually exclusive on this device.
