Is there a CMW rom I can flash? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

When I, originally, rooted my phone I used CWM. It seemed to work okay and I was able to try a few ROMs. However, most of the posts regarding ROMs suggest to use TWRP. So, I flashed TWRP. Now, I can only get one ROM (Validus) to work BUT none of the Gapps ROMS work at all. So, I can't download anything from the play store. I want to try CWM again but where do I find a CWM Rom so I can flash over TWRP? Is there a way. I can live with Validus OS but I NEED Gapps. Please help!

Try older/newer versions of TWRP, the newest or older versions are not always the most compatible with ROMs out there. Hope you can make it work!
If it doesn't work, you can download ClockworkMod ROM Manager app ( Found Here )and try to install CWM recovery from that

I tried flashing an older version of TWRP but it just loads the newest version. Can TWRP run apks? If so, how? Is there a primer on how to do this?

No, the apk I linked is for you to install normally and run it normally. From what I understand is that you successfully installed Validus ROM but can't download any apps because you do not have gapps. If you download this apk file and install it with Validus already running, you can open the ROM manager app. What this does is that it allows you to flash CWM recovery without the need to download .zip files and flashing them.

Issue updating CWM for 4.4 install

Been a while since i updated my device so i wanted to try out the new 4.4. I see that i needed CWM 6.0.4.3 and i only have 6.0.3.0. I downloaded Rom manager and installed the update that way and Rom manager says its is running the 6.0.4.3 but when i go to the recovery it says the old version is still running and gives me the expected error when i try to flash the 4.4 ROM. I also tried to download the the update file and flash that in recovery and it didn't work either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It probably something simple and i will feel like an idiot when someone chimes in........

1 thing you should know before you go and try the 4.4 kitkat is that sd card isnt showing. I love the rom but cant get to anything on my sd card.
Good luck.

Just a Rule of Thumb. It is advisable to flash Recoveries with ODIN. I am very well aware you can use Rom Manager or Goo Manager, but this is just a thumb rule for flashing the Recovery Partition.
Also note, flashing wrong Recovery can cause hard brick.

Hi all. I'm on the i9305 and want to flash latest recovery for kitkat. I'm on philz recovery and wondered if there was one of his I could use. I searched xda but I couldn't find anything. Also I couldn't find an Odin (tar) file for normal cwm. Omni and cm only have the zip and IMG files.

I did do this update via oden. Also flashed Phil's recovery from there. This is where i tried to flash the 4.4 gapps to fix the issue with no luck.
Please post a log of the error when you tried to flash CM Kitkat. If you can't pull the log file, take a photo.

twrp 2.6.3.1 questions

I heard that data mounting is broken and can't seem to find a file for it...I want kitkat
So...the questions are:
Where can I download it?
Is data mounting broken?and what do they mean by "data mounting?" Am I better off waiting for a new fixed version of twrp? Possibly 2.6.3.2 will be out soon?
bumping for answers. Im looking for the latest TWRP as well.

Thanks for the bump.I really want kitkat on my fire as I haven't got it on my nexus 7 2013 or obviously my 2012 nexus 7 that doesn't respond to touch...
I actually haven't heard anything about the data mounting being broken. I just flashed the newest version with flashify. And I'm running CM11 now.

You are correct. Data mounting is broken for me and some others on the KF Sub-Forum. So if I were you, I would wait about a month or 2. If you can't, oh well. You were warned
EDIT: Made a guide. Flash TWRP first but if you have problems with it after you install it like I had (data mount errors), then follow this guide to fix it.
cant get newer twrp to work
I am having trouble with getting the newer versions of twrp to boot up correctly. I have manually flashed all the most recent versions of TWRP with command prompt, I even used flashify but every version would either freeze at the teamwin logo or would not boot into recovery at all. I went down the list (downloaded and installed each version) and the only version of twrp that would work on my kindle is 2.4.0. Even after doing this, I cant seem to get passed the boot animation when flashing roms, the boot animation is off centered and cut off to the top right. The boot animation would play then freeze then would start a boot loop. I wiped all data, cache and everything else needed before and after flashing the rom but no results. Can someone please help me out?

What recovery does CM installer use/install?

What recovery does the CM installer install onto the device, if running stock before installing?
If it installs eg. CWM, will "the rom" also update the recovery automatically when possible?
No

i think the installer will update the recovery based on the version of CM your installing
alinux777 said:
No, the recovery you use is appart from the Rom you use, you can use CWM or TWRP, ir depends on the Roms your running you may need the latest version, but you will need to install it manually via the recovery its always the safest way.

I too was searching for twrp after having rooted with CF-Autoroot, and I found it at their website. But I have not had any success in installing it. Odin3 v3.09 comes back with nothing, regardless of using the .img, .md5, or .zip extension of the recovery. Same as with philz cwm recovery. It must be me, because others have installed these recoveries just fine. I’ll have to check that my anti-virus sw is disabled and that the usb drivers are compatible with my OS. I’m still researching. I’ll post back if I succeed. Here are the links below. Whichever recovery you choose make sure you download the correct one for the model you have. (SM-T800 vs T801 vs T805, etc…) Good luck!

It was easier than I thought. If you are rooted, just download twrp manager from playstore, and find your device name chagallwifi in my case I have the t800. And once it downloads recovery, install it.

I did download twrp manager from playstore and tried it, before trying Goo manager, and ROM Toolbox pro. All said that there was no compatible recovery for the device. Maybe at that time (Sun Aug 31) twrp had not officially sanctioned it for wide release, since none of those managers were able to find it for download. That's when I went to TeamWin and downloaded it directly. So if it now works for you, I'll try twrp manager again. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the tip.

Great news! I got home and removed twrp manager + data from my Tab and installed it again from playstore. I remembered you mentioned device name "chagallwifi". Before I had been searching for SM-T800 and couldn't find it in the list of available devices. Thanks for including chagallwifi in your comment, otherwise I would have been lost again. This time it worked just as you said. One very import note: within the twrp manager app you are also able to fix the kitkat 4.4 extSDcard -ro issue, where kitkat 4.4 won't let you write to the extSDcard. so for anyone else reading this I suggest you select that while you have the chance. Some people may not want to install a recovery or a custom ROM, they just want to be able to write to their external SDCard. You can download the app "NextApp SDFix" from the playstore and run it to get around the kitkat issue. Thanks again for your help and speedy reply.

Okay, first, you may want to try flash the v10g version of the stock ROM because it's the best starting point for flashing the custom ROM on lg ogp device. Follow the instructions in the link below and you should be good. I don't know why someone would tell you to use the towel root with the stock v20 rom because a lot of time it doesn't root properly. The instructions you were originally gave were to root with the towel root and then install the busy box so you can use the freegee. With the freegee you can install either cwm or twrp custom recovery. Once you have the custom recovery, reboot into the recovery and then flash philz custom recovery because it's better than the freegee's. Philz recovery is optional if you don't feel like you need it, it just has more bell and whistle, that is all. You can flash the custom ROM with either custom recovery, philz or freegee. However, I'm more concern with you trying to root with the v20 stock ROM, because you will likely run into many issues. So be sure to read the guide I give you first.

Hey! thanks for the replay! I just got one helper because the rom guy didn;t want to help me so the others.Only 1 guy wanted to give me hints and I managed to install this stock rom.
So you're saying that I have wrong rom installed?
Do I have to really instal other rom or can I do it on mine but in other way to root it and process it so as to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/development/mar-0-lollipop-g-pro-v1-t3043779 or not?
I'm all confused,just wanted to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/development/mar-0-lollipop-g-pro-v1-t3043779
but whole day passed and nothing was done U.Ux
Read the guide I give you.
Managed to root my phone by iRoot.
Now I tried install busybox but after I hit install: "it looks like the instalation of busy box was not successful try installing to different location that may resolve the issue"....
any tips?
If you can't install the busy box, that usually has something to do with the root. That's the reason I said not to use the v20 stock ROM as the starting point. The only reason you need the busy box is the freegee, you can install the recovery without using freegee, but you have to search around XDA first because freegee opens up the boot loader, which is also the reason you can't just flash the recovery with the lg flash tool. You may have to flash v10g version of the stock ROM.
Ok I'm in philz menu.Someone said that all I need is to install(ANY) rom and kernel-how I do it? I want http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/development/mar-0-lollipop-g-pro-v1-t3043779
Have you used a custom recovery before? Down load both rom and kernel installing files to a directory that you prefer, usually some where on your external sd disk. Once you get the files, go to philz recovery and press install zip, find the directory where the installing files are located, press on them, and it should install the rom. If you have never done this before, remember to factory or clean install the rom. On philz recovery, there is a function call installing a new rom under factory reset section, use that every time you're installing a new rom.

What's Wi-Fi doing? I notice there are issue with the modem on cm12.1 based custom rom. During the boot up, it would spent long time searching for the signal, but I never have problem with the Wi-Fi though, then again, I'm not using cm12.1 but vanir instead. However, somewhere I remember reading that someone else is having a issue with the Wi-Fi on cm12.1, and he fix it temporarily by setting up the Wi-Fi each time.
