What recovery does CM installer use/install? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What recovery does the CM installer install onto the device, if running stock before installing?
If it installs eg. CWM, will "the rom" also update the recovery automatically when possible?

No

i think the installer will update the recovery based on the version of CM your installing

alinux777 said:
No, the recovery you use is appart from the Rom you use, you can use CWM or TWRP, ir depends on the Roms your running you may need the latest version, but you will need to install it manually via the recovery its always the safest way.

Before installing make backup wipe dalvik cache , cache, do factory reset and try again .. hope it helps
Sent from my Hero using xda premium
Actually I tell the whole story now. When I was making backup of my stock ROM the sd card showed low on space. So I removed that SD card and inserted the one which came with the Phone. On that I installed all the required zip files. Then I made backup of the stock ROM and the data. After that I followed these steps mentioned here -:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863260
According to the steps I did not did wipe davik cache etc. after instaling the ROM I did wipe factory and data reset and wipe cache partition. After following all the steps mentioned I rebooted my phone as mentioned. But after rebooting the phone is stuck on android logo. I then again went into recovery and tried to wipe dalvik cache the confirmation page that appears before wiping anything is not coming. Also when I tried to restore my phone to the stock ROM an error message is coming. So I am not able to restore to the stock ROM. This is the whole thing. So guys please help. I hope I have not bricked my phone. Any solutions?
Thanks

What version it is??
If you are install custom rom from stock rom,its better to use px-cwmV2..
If test it,and it minimize the risk of stuck on android logo..
After that you can change the recovery to other version that you want..

I think the version is 5.0.2.7. Also when I am switching off the phone after sometime it is automatically switching on by itself. So for the time being I have removed the battery.

If you use that version, use the version that can support rfs+ext4 file system..
Stock rom use rfs file system and custom rom usually use ext4 file system,so therefore you have to use recovery that support both..

Search ! there are allot of guide howto flash gio to stock with odin

If you have working recovery it's no use to flash stock ROM, just flash px-cwmV2 http://www.mediafire.com/file/y1xy6g2y5tpp1fg/px-cwm-v2.zip.
Then wipe all, including dalvik, flash desired ROM, wipe all again (including dalvik), and you should be good to go.

I have. As i said, you could just try CWM v2.
BUT to be absolutely safe flash a stock ROM using Odin, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20397915&postcount=3.
After u flash the stock ROM, go to default recovery, factory reset, boot the rom, shutdown.
Flash the desired version of CWM using Odin or trough recovery, and then flash the custom ROM u want.
For me CWM 5.0.2.7 ext4+ RFS couldn't wipe dalvik, nor could it mount /system. So I used cwmV2.
Good luck!

when you flash firmware with odin, it will also flash a new recovery.
just enter recovery like normally, and flash cwm-v2.zip
after its done you pull the battery out, and boot into recovery again.
now you have clockworkmod installed

[Q] Custom Rom problem

after 2 weeks of total depression, i succesfull unlocked my bootloader, and installed the cwm Recovery.
and i read a thread about installing custom roms after unlocking bootloader,
i downloaded the latest cyanogenmod for my desire HD and installed it with the "choose zip from sd" option,
i forgot to make a backup ( biggest fail ever), and now , when i try to start the device, it stops on the "Softbank" logo,
(for 1 week, i completely crashed it, and installed the JP softbank android)
i only wanted a custom rom, and thebest irony was, the most videos said me: "Custom rom in 5 minutes",
can anyone please help me?, thanks

I don't know the softbank one, but the CM one should be packaged in a zip file. Flash it in recovery (sounds like you already did that) and then move it to your computer, unzip it, and flash the boot.img inside it from fastboot. Clearer directions are linked in the Ace Think Tank thread in DHD General.

This isn't normally required on the M8, unless its some quirk specific to MIUI (which is a ROM I don't a have much knowledge of).
Make sure your TWRP version is up to date.
Make sure your hboot is up to date.
Wipe user data and cache (default wipe in TWRP) before flashing the ROM.
Those are the most common reasons for no boot after flashing multiple ROMs.
I dont use TWRP. I use Philz Touch recovery.
Where can i download latest TWRP ?

That may be the issue right there. I know some folks are still using it, but Philz hasn't been updated in a long time. And since some newer ROMs have issues with older TWRP builds, I would assume the same would be true with Philz.
You can get TWRP here: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/

Is there a CMW rom I can flash?

When I, originally, rooted my phone I used CWM. It seemed to work okay and I was able to try a few ROMs. However, most of the posts regarding ROMs suggest to use TWRP. So, I flashed TWRP. Now, I can only get one ROM (Validus) to work BUT none of the Gapps ROMS work at all. So, I can't download anything from the play store. I want to try CWM again but where do I find a CWM Rom so I can flash over TWRP? Is there a way. I can live with Validus OS but I NEED Gapps. Please help!

Try older/newer versions of TWRP, the newest or older versions are not always the most compatible with ROMs out there. Hope you can make it work!
If it doesn't work, you can download ClockworkMod ROM Manager app ( Found Here )and try to install CWM recovery from that

No, the apk I linked is for you to install normally and run it normally. From what I understand is that you successfully installed Validus ROM but can't download any apps because you do not have gapps. If you download this apk file and install it with Validus already running, you can open the ROM manager app. What this does is that it allows you to flash CWM recovery without the need to download .zip files and flashing them.

You should be able to boot to bootloader if it's the same problem I have. You can then either flash the stock recovery or this version of TWRP which should fix the problem; https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70296158&postcount=79
