Touch screen problems - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I've been experiencing some weird touch screen issues.
The top section of the screen has a small strip across where it doesn't register any touches.
This makes it impossible to touch items like a search bar in Chrome or Spotify.
Here is a video trying to show the issue. You can see when I am approaching the top section of the screen, the touch point skips all the way to the top.
This happens 80-90% of the time for a week now.
Has anyone else been experiencing this?

I have exactly the same problem. It started just before Xmas. Have you found a solutin?
Pete

Hey i have same problem... whats solutin??

Sounds like a part of the screen has died / dying.
Have you dropped it, spilt water on if it? Is it overheating? Do you have a thick screen protector on? Does rebooting help?;
The above-mentioned is usually the reason why but it could just be a problem with the screen..
If so sending it back to HTC will get it fixed.

No that's BS, it is 100% a manufacturer fault. If they don't accept it, complain, contact another HTC regardless of country. If I bought a phone and that happened but there's nothing physical wrong with the phone and they wouldn't accept it! They would hear me, they should and will accept an RMA, speak to them again.

I'm not having this issue.
May I ask which screen recorder app are you using?

I have this same problem in the same area as everyone else. For it to happen in the same area as everyone else makes me believe it is a flaw in the manufacturing process. Whether due to pressure or not it shouldn't always fail in the same way.

I had that issue ( htc10 gold) and I replaced with new ones (black)? under warranty

hi to all.
i find a way to fix this problem... yeeees!
just serach on Youtube : fix tuch screen with electric lighter!
my phone is working now!

Damn, I have this problem for the sec. time!
1 1/2 years - 2 years no problems, then within warranty it occurred and I got a replacement screen.
That was about 3-4 month by now ... And same error on the same spot! Outside of warranty and with home-replaced battery ...
Top bar, right "over" the status/notification bar ...
Maybe I will try the electro shock method....
Edit:
ooookayyyyy ... First it seemed to have no effect, but after a restart it works again ...
Don't know if because of the piezo or something else... @benyamin. qolami ! you saved me 40€ !

Display problem..defective..?

The display on my TP2 appears to have a liquidy substance underneath the cover/plastic top.. I can only see it when looking at it from a certain angle and it moves around when I touch it.. Is this the result of a defective display? I've had this phone since..late august, early september, and noticed it awhile ago.. never thought anything of it.. Just wondering if i could get a replacement or something, as i have insurance..
ill look for a picture that shows what im talking about. but can someone tell me what it is, if it will affect my screen, and if i can get a replacement?
thanks.
If it looks liquidy and moves around when you touch it, it sounds like... liquid. You may want to check the water indicator underneath the battery to make sure it isn't activated. If it's a solid pink/red color, your warranty won't cover a repair or replacement.

My touch screen stopped working this evening, also has some filmy moist-looking substance under glass, but I didn't expose it to anything, and my water indicator sticker under the battery cover is still in good shape. Called Sprint for replacement, but any ideas while I wait?

From what I've heard and seen, it's caused by a manufacturing defect on early models. The only way to fix it is to replace the touch screen. I don't know how the HTC service centres are in the US, but in the UK they are very, very helpful and replaced it free of charge within a week.

[Q] Touchscreen Problems

I've looked everywhere and haven't quite found anything quite like the problem I am having so here it is.
The touchscreen is giving some very weird inputs after installing a new LCD (since mine got cracked). This problem was occurring before and I changed the touchscreen glass but still have the same problem. I changed roms as well and did the basic keyboard calibration with no success. Please help! what else can i do? What could be causing this problem?
PROBLEM:
The very top of the screen does not detect touch at all (therefore I can't drag down the notifications bar). The upper middle of the screen registers only up and down drags when started outside the area. It does not register side to side and does not register touches.
HTC Droid Incredible (tried multiple different roms with no success).

on top of the lcd there are 2 wire straps, the ground the screen by a screw. when you replaced the screen did you remember to transfer over the the straps as well?

i didn't this time, but i put something else in its place (copper wires) but it's still doing the same thing. I can't swipe down the notifications bar and the middle is still having the same problem. There is a screw (one of the two) on the motherboard that I lost, but I don't know how that would make any difference. Thoughts?

The motherboard screws don't matter as much. It might be a bad digitizer or the coper isn't conductive enough. Make sure the flat wire is in all the way and there are no kinks.
Cheated on my sexy assistant with a HTC ReZound.
Hmmm...I've repaired about 25 Droid incredibles..never had this problem. I'm thinkin your digitizer is bad or when you replaced the lcd that maybe some adhesive is touching the glass underneath? If I were you I would just order a new digtitizer and give that a shot. Since your lcd is new. If even a tiny bit of the digitizer got cracked that will happen or if you have damage to the ribbon cable that will happen as well. Which would then again me solved by a new digitizer. Let me know how that goes.

Similar issue
Was there any resolution to this issue?
I am attempting to replace a severely cracked digitizer (that otherwise works perfectly - responding to touch everywhere) with a replacement digitizer and front housing part purchased from repairsuniverse. They've been gracious enough to exchange their product twice but all three replacements they've provided have identical behavior to the original poster. I'd be able to believe it were a hardware issue with the phone/motherboard IF the cracked digitizer didn't work in a similar way, but it's fine every time I reinstall it, which pretty much rules that scenario out.
I've been scouring threads for the better part of the day, but have been unable to find one that provides a solution.

it was such a long time ago. from what I remember it was just a bad digitizer. I suggest just returning the item and buying it from a different company. That phone, which wasn't even mine, I replaced the digitizer more than once and it only happened that one time.
Hope it helps

HTC One X's part of touch screen not working at all

I brought my HOX about a month ago, no issues at all after updating to 1.28, no built issues zero software issues, it was perfect.
But today morning i installed a game and tried to touch the menu bar(the vertical bar with 3 dots just above capacitive buttons) and it does not work.
Not only in the game but everywhere you try to touch that area nothing happens.
This problem is not only limited to the menu bar, but also till very slightly above it.
The 1.29.7 update for asia just came out, i thught this would fix it but it didnt.
Tried to factory reset but still doesnt works.
Is this a hardware problem? Should i take to htc?
And do you think i will get a replacement or a repair job done?
Also, i have never dropped the phone even once, it was aways in soft silicon case away from any rough use. In fact, it has hardly been used.
Thanks
I would send it right back to HTC for a replacement.
Exchange it. I had a simular problem with mine but it was the top of the screen that stoped working. In the end I had to get a exchange.

had the same problem and gone for a replacement. I have tried many things with the guidance of HTC support center none worked.
same problem here
took it back to shop where it was purchased from, it took over 6 weeks for repair centre to return it.
just got it back today and the problems are still there
im sooo unhappy with this phone.
ive emailed HTC and waiting on a response.
i want a new one or my money back.

I am expireincing the exact same problem, except the non working part of digitizer is just above the middle of the screen. Is flashing a new ROM would fix it? I think i have nothing to loose, since i cannot send my phone to AT&T because i bought it used on ebay and i live in Canada. I guess it could be 50% chances ROM issue, my old Sensation was having a speaker issue, witch was playing very weak, i sent it to HTC and they flashed a new ROM, it got is spaeker fixed.
I too had this problem although it was intermittent. Sent my HOX to be repaired on Thursday, waiting to hear back.

Did changing the ROM do any good? I have the exact problem on my HTC, bought through craiglist, and am now in India so the warranty won't work. Is there anything I can do to correct it short of replacing the whole LCD?
Your help will be much appreciated.

GPU fault after falling

Hello guys. I'm currently trying to fix a friends HOX that fell and now the screen doesn't always display image although we can see it always lighting up (it turns on but stays black) .
If I press hardly the HOX's area in red while turning it ON, it works fine. I'm assuming this could be some broken welding points but would like your opinion.

I'm thinking of heating the area with a heat gun, but I'm afraid I'll kill the rest of the phone... what do you think?
Also, after disassembling the phone, the vibration stopped working and I've checked every flat cable and every connector I could find...no ideas to fix this one since it was working before I cracked the phone open.
Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Possibly a chip has become partly detached from the solder ball grid array due to the shock of the fall. You will not be able to repair this by heating, even if you could reach the melting point of the solder.
The manufacturer would repair by replacing the circuit board and the existing one would be considered unserviceable.
Regards
Phil
So in resume, my friend has a HOX for spare parts... damn...
Couldn't you pack the inside of the housing at the point where you need to apply pressure? Using a piece of card or something. Hardly ideal but would make it functional again
That has been my first attempt, and it's better but still, not enough.
I'm going to disassemble it for the tenth time in a final effort...
tks for the tip though!
So, I've just realized the back metal plate comes out nicely and I think I've found the problem for the GPU issue... that small component on the red area has a broken piece lol (WTF!)
I have applied pressure directly on top of it and I think it will be usable like this, but it now needs a bit of daily use to check if I'm right or wrong.
Can anyone identify what component type is that?
Also, unfortunately (and I don't have a clue how this has happened), the vibration stopped working after opening the phone on the first time, any one has any ideas of what to look for? I don't see any flex cable cut or any other damaged parts...
Tks guys.
Problem solved, some back pressure on the broken piece and the hox is good to go.
The only thing still not working is the vibration...

[Q] Xperia SP bought at ebay-screen damage?

Hi, I bought a Xperia SP from eBay.
200€ unused. After opening the box the screen was on.
It shows the home screen but no matter which buttons (hardware or screen) I press, nothing happens.
The clock shows always the same time.
Anyways, the battery drain seems to be very low. After two days it is still on.
I read about hardware off, but it doesn't work. Any solution?

I tried to pull of the sticker, if it was one. But there is no sticker.
One other thing that is crazy : the screen seems not to be backlit, like other phones.
When the room light is off, the screen is visible, but not lightened like my other phones...
This is weird....I feel like I am beeing fooled...

Okay guys, I am so sorry I wanted to keep this joke going, but you guys are really kind and I don't want to misuse it any longer.
This phone indeed is a dummy. After reading only about the damn JellyBean update all the days I thought it would be funny to talk about something else.
Please don't verbal-kill me, it was just a joke and I apologize.

It's a fake, and everything in your story tells you it's fake : screen on out of the box (still running after 2 DAYS, that's 48h of screen on time), not responsive, not backlit, clock stuck, half the price, bought on eBay :/ open it up, pretty sure you won't even find a battery in there.
I'm wondering if your post is legit, and I'm only answering because if this is real, you must feel quite bad. Get your money back.
