Hello guys. I'm currently trying to fix a friends HOX that fell and now the screen doesn't always display image although we can see it always lighting up (it turns on but stays black) .
If I press hardly the HOX's area in red while turning it ON, it works fine. I'm assuming this could be some broken welding points but would like your opinion.

I'm thinking of heating the area with a heat gun, but I'm afraid I'll kill the rest of the phone... what do you think?
Also, after disassembling the phone, the vibration stopped working and I've checked every flat cable and every connector I could find...no ideas to fix this one since it was working before I cracked the phone open.
Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Possibly a chip has become partly detached from the solder ball grid array due to the shock of the fall. You will not be able to repair this by heating, even if you could reach the melting point of the solder.
The manufacturer would repair by replacing the circuit board and the existing one would be considered unserviceable.

So in resume, my friend has a HOX for spare parts... damn...
Couldn't you pack the inside of the housing at the point where you need to apply pressure? Using a piece of card or something. Hardly ideal but would make it functional again
That has been my first attempt, and it's better but still, not enough.
I'm going to disassemble it for the tenth time in a final effort...
tks for the tip though!
So, I've just realized the back metal plate comes out nicely and I think I've found the problem for the GPU issue... that small component on the red area has a broken piece lol (WTF!)
I have applied pressure directly on top of it and I think it will be usable like this, but it now needs a bit of daily use to check if I'm right or wrong.
Can anyone identify what component type is that?
Also, unfortunately (and I don't have a clue how this has happened), the vibration stopped working after opening the phone on the first time, any one has any ideas of what to look for? I don't see any flex cable cut or any other damaged parts...
Tks guys.
Problem solved, some back pressure on the broken piece and the hox is good to go.
The only thing still not working is the vibration...

Hi
My sister's G2 got wet and the lcd screen stopped working. The capacitive buttons, digitizer, and physical keyboard work fine.
However, someone took the phone apart before I came home and tried to diagnose the problem. I believe they may have damaged one of the connectors on the motherboard by bending (and perhaps breaking) some pins. I have attached a picture.
Should I go ahead and replace the lcd or is this damage just too much? The phone works save for the screen.

Sorry, here's the pic:

From physical appearance, it looks like the micro-sd card connector is spoilt, according to here. (Coincidentally, the touch panel ribbon is next to the Micro-SD connector)
After water damage, and probably some other motherboard faults resulting from opening the phone up without professional help, many things could've been probably either short circuited or damaged, besides the faulty connector. I'm not sure whether the phone will still boot up properly after these problems, let alone the screen not functioning.
I don't know about you, but if that happened to me, i think its best to get help from a professional or your service center.

Thanks for the advice and the reply. I'll consider seeking some techs in the area.
However, the phone boots up and the backlight turn behind the capactive buttons as well as the physical keyboard. The digitizer works because I can swipe across the screen (even though I can't see) and feel the vibration of unlocking the home screen. Also, the volume rocker works as well as the audio.
So, I may have gotten lucky. But it appears the microsd connector is damaged (not by water - by a person). I wonder if the top pins are just tension pins?
Hi everybody!
I wonder if there anyone have a spare parts for DesireZ (G2)? I need the mainboard itself for the repair. Thank you in advance for your help.

Do you sell youre G2? or you have a spare mainboard?
hi there,
I had spilled water on the top of my galaxy nexus this morning and it wiped out the ear speaker. so i decided to open it up and eventually after some tinkering around I managed to fix it, however, I hadn't realised when lifting the mainboard that the volume switch was soldered onto it, and ended up breaking the connection. you can see it from the picture below. how can I solder this back? its a very small connection. i cant seem to find any videos or guides on how to solder back connections like this.
any help would be grateful, thanks
everything else with the phone is working fine though, but i lost the ability to go to recovery or bootloader

Can't be done, you broke 2 of the connections from the ribbon itself.
You'll have to either buy a whole new ribbon, or a whole new board with the ribbon already soldered on.
The picture also seems to indicate the pad being lifted from the other board. If that is indeed the case (feel the area of the board for a depression), your repair just got a lot more expensive - you may need to replace the board too.
Below point may be moot given the damage in question, but the actual soldering is best done with a high power but temperature controlled soldering station like the Weller WES51. You also need lead free solder, fresh tip, very steady hand, and quite probably a third hand (a tool that looks like two posable alligator clips, to hold your work piece).

i assume you mean the pads where the connection was? its ok its just that the soldered bits are abit lifted. the board doesn't seem to have any damage.
I've contacted Samsung about this, i hope they get back to me in time. i can still use the phone though, just cant change volume or get any vibrations lol

I never said the board need replacement because it isn't working , just that if the copper pad itself was lifted (or worse, torn) from the board, you will never be able to fully fix the connection yourself because you have nothing on the board to complete the circuit with, without going for more drastic measures.
Samsung may very well ask you to send the phone in, then I'm willing to bet that they'll swap the board as well. That is if they don't try to void your warranty.
yeah, so i ended up buying a faulty GN with a broken screen off eBay ill swap my screen with that one and sell mine too as faulty..
sad times, but ill be back
Hi,
A few weeks ago I had a broken LCD on my Desire. I've fixed that myself, it was pretty easy. First all thing looks great and I was very happy that the did the fix myself.
After a few hours I start calling people there I noticed a problem thats vey annoying. It looks the sensor for ending a phonecall is broken. Before when I ended a phonecall, the screen goes on again. Now the screen stays black. There arfe two situations.
1) when I want to end a call (for example when the called people are not at home) I can push the power button a few times, then the screen goes on and I can hang up. This is frustrating, but it works.
2) When the other side hangs the call earlier than me, I've a problem. The only way to get the screen on is to remove battery.
especially the second example makes the phone unusable. Hopefully any of you knows a solution of maybe what type of hardware is broken.
I've flashed two different ROM to the phone, in both the problem is there.
After a lot of Google searching I've found that the problems are from a broken proximity sensor.
I found a person who said that a vacuum cleaner on top of the screen will do the trick, not for me.
Can anyone describe how this sensor looks like? I've replaced my LCD, so I think done something wrong with assembling the phone again.
Today I've disabmled the phone to look at the proximity sensor. I can't find anything wrong.
I've look at the tips in this forum:

Hello,
I found root cause of this problem;-)
Proximity sensor have two part- one is infra red emiter (TX), and another is IR sensor (RX). Inside arround sensor you will see glossy metal parts and little gap in plastic bariere between this two parts. Solution is: use dark isolating tape and cover glossy metal parts and fill gap between plastic and metal. After this modification all will works fine!
(Because glossy metal parts inside happends multi reflection and sensor is blinded with near IR emitter)
balki (croatia)
That comment of balki looks a lot of people saying that this is the trick, but I didn't understand what he's meaning. Can anyone help me? For example, the sensor looks like this part:

}
I've cleaned the sensor and glass before the sensor, so dust isn't the problem anymore.
I've found the problem, fixed by the solution of Balki.
On this picture you can see what Balki means:
http://ordelman.org/tmp/desire_proximity_holder.png
That rubber part is mostly missing after replacing a lcd or digitizer. You can order that part at ebay, of fix it like Balki said with black tape. The holder (or tape) are there to be sure that the two parts of the sensor may not see each other.
Good find, GAEvakYD. Thanks for the details.
Ok here's a warning to all of you, the edges of the screen are very sensitive to pressure I noticed the other day light pressure on the edge of the bezel would make my screen discolored, I just took my phone out of my pocket now and I have a yellow vertical band down the right hand side of my screen, I'm guessing my phone squeezed in my pocket when I got in the car for work this morning, just a warning to everyone be ultra gentle with your screens. :-( not happy.
having tested and unboxed over 15 HOXes
i can confirm to you some of them ripple under light pressure, some under some effort and few impossible to ripple
the ripple is a sign of imperfect screen lamination, if your's was very sensitive to begin with than it was defected out of box and hence the damage you have now
out of the 15 i tried, only one of them that my cousin own is completely ripple free no matter how hard you push
the one im talking about feels completely different to the rest, its extremely rigid on both left and right sides with such a tight gap that no dust can get it, like i said it has been an impossible task for me to find another one like it, this one is also perfectly clean and even on whites when viewed at every angle, ie: its lamination is flawless, early HT23 white
something is seriously messed with HTC screen fitting and its only time before more and more cases like this will appear
This phone gets better by the day...
Might dump it on ebay and .....
This is rediculous.... somone with money and power DO SOMETHING!!!!
Mod edit: Edited for language
The glass is pretty fragile anyway TBH. Mine has been in a pocket on it's own and still managed to become scratched after a week, whereas my last iPhone 4 went about two years without getting a mark on either side!

You should get a Samsung device, I here each of their displays are identically perfect. Seriously, I've never seen a mobile device forum where there weren't a percentage of complaints about the display. You can't build millions and have every unit perfect. Google "iPad/iPhone display issues" and you'll see no one's immune.

Thats the good thing about being able to manufacture your own screens and not have to rely on 3rd parties I suppose. Imagine being able to buy a HTC phone with a Samsung screen in it! Minus all the Hardware issues too!
Oh wait, were you being sarcastic!?!? lol
Hey guys. I bought my Z5P on dec 23. It had a broken screen, i replaced the screen early in January and everything was great.
Then in early February the screen would get vertical lines at times, suddenly appearing then randomly disappear after 10 seconds all the way up to 8 hours later. The screen would randomly become quite warm/hot a couple of millimeters above the on screen buttons, aswell as heat up the entire phone randomly while in standby for some reason.
On Feb. 10 the lines came to stay, they are now constantly there in darker images as well as constantly sometimes in all scenarios. The 3.5mm port is also buggy and don't work if i move (I know about the software issue, this is hardware related).
So, i'm faced with exchanging the screen again for 60-70$ or change screen and frame in one for 90$ as well as the 3.5mm. Should i just throw in a new screen or will the problems likely reappear?
I did the previous swap myself, and cant find anything wrong with the install. The screen may sit a tad bit deeper in the frame now, the plastic edges rise above the screen on both sides. Screen appears to be OEM, same quality as original in all aspects until it failed. The phone has obviously been tampered with before i bought it, its missing 1 plastic cover over the charging port so i propped that up with a plastic piece as well.
Anyone with any experience with these kinds of problems on this or other Sony phones would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
For some reason i clicked the wrong button on log in and posted with my google user.
Here is a image showing my problem on a different phone.

since you bought it with broken screen, the scientific question for you to be asked back then was
1. how did it got broken? dropped from height ? heavy object dropped on it.... in either case....
2. what else may have had got damaged inside?
My sister had SAMSUNG s4 and she dropped it , it hit on the floor and lines/bar started appearing after a while! later the screen went blank... we replaced the screen and it worked only few hours and went blank again! ,,, finally the technician told us that processor or graphic chip may also got damaged or affected so replacing chip is not possible unless you change the mother board! (which will cost $400 with labour charges )
long story short! we gave up on that phone! when the market is saturated with variety of good hardware on competitive prices...
