I just installed mine. I also brought those generic ones. They are not as bright as the original sony ones. You have to take that in mind. Colors and quality are OK, but like a said, its darker and you have to put the brightness at max to have what you did on 50% at the original. Touching is also OK.
Remember that those generic ones will probably not have anti scratch technology like dragontrail or gorila glass. Put a glass cover on it
Changeing the screen is pretty simples. Just conect the flex cable and install the new one.
Mine didnt have the adhesive so you installed with super glue. Yeah, not the best thing but it didnt come with adhesive and i didnt want to wait anymore.
thank you!!
I just dont know if it worth 40$, because i already have new z5 premium..
and I'm quite familiar with the process, my z1c have been through a lot ?, and i have the necessary adhesive..
Any good guides (vids etc) out there guys for replacing the whole screen/digitizer? I was going to get one of eBay and do it myself.
I've had my Z1C since launch and it's literally just cracked on its on after replacing the screen protector!

Thanks.

Good. The lack of brightness is kinda annoying but whatever... Put a screen protector on it too.

Well that was easy, much easier than changing the battery
I bought a screen from eBay and the seller mentioned that their screens were much brighter than their competitors - I'm not disappointed...
Thanks guys.

Is the brightness good as stock lcd with that tweak?
I'd to replace two screens in my family phones and bought this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ori...32444420205.html?spm=2114.13010708.0.0.lUBBhU
Screen codes (A1004010X for LCD) an colors exactly as original, Touchpad surely not original (has the Sony logo directly over it, not over a protector) but high quality as I don't feel any difference. I tried and returned three screens from other sellers for poor quality before found the indicated (one even from a local technical service that was supposed to be original and expensive).
The one issue for me has been to glue the screen to the frame. The screen came with an adhesive sticker that got separated in the bottom area after a few days. I did also some other tries with other glues but I was no able to find a perfect solution for this. Any hints?

Use superglue. I used adhesive (came with the screen) and superglue. But only little/minimum drop on strategic points.

This will obviously drain more battery, right?
Im still on stock with Root. Is it possible to do this without flashing zip?
The brightness is ok on max, but that kills the battery. its impossible to have the same brightness that the original has without draining more battery.

more brightness-more drain is probably the rule here.
but you will have a brighter display for the time you need it.
to install without flashing zip, open the zip, extract pre_hw_config.sh file and copy it to system/etc/replace previous file and after this

The glass probly not that much, but the labor I think that is more than anything
Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
Cost i have no idea..
But with touch screen glass is not just glass..
It could be The Capacitivie touch screeen or the LCD or both..
Just guessing.. No idea what they cost.. You should find out if someone else had an equivalent repiar job done and price they paid..
Yeah i did the same thing, i was told £180 pound.
The screen is fine its the digitizer that is cracked like yours, i picked one up on ebay for £24.
Arrived fine, was OEM. just need to fit it myself, or find someone to fit it for me.
Their is a actual manual from SonyEricsson in .pdf format that explains how to take the screen out.
If you want it, ill try to find it on my laptop

you cant get a standalone digitizer for arc. It comes as a pair with digitizer and lcd. I tried changing just digitizer and screen stopped working. You can get it on ebay for about £50
If i understood corectly u bought a digiter and u tried to put it on your own, but screen didnt worked.. would it be waste of time if i tried? what do you think?

That is correct. The screen and the digitizer come as one assembly. When I tried to take the digitizer off on its own the lcd screen back panel ripped off and wouldnt work again.
I see..thank you for your information and your time, u was very helpful to decide what im gonna do.. im gonna give 147 to sony ericson service for not having troubles in my mind!! Anyway, sone ericson dissapointed me..i searched on youtube for instructions to replace the digitizer and lcd on phones (for example nokia) and i found it very easy job, easy enough to do it your self..
if you buy it from ebay its very easy to install it yourself but i will warn you staright away the quality of images will decrease. When I replaced mine i was very disappointed. Blue colours became greener, and lines appeared when tilting phone. Much better to let sony do it but it is very expensive. Nearly half the price of the phone.

The screen quality should only decrease if it's not original screen from sony.
There are screens on ebay that are original.
Beware of imitations.
I'm buying one today so hopefully get my arc back up and put this Vivaz back in the drawer lol
well, good luck with your arc!!
yh says genuine and original but they are not. Post back here see if you can see a difference. I noticed it instantly.

Also Soldier33, how did you manage to pull your screen off, did you disemble the connections then pull it off with a suction cup of something ?
This is my main concern, is pulling the screen off, as i dont think you can push it out from inside the phone !

If it dont go well, i wont be on this forum for a while lol :S
I used the suction cup from my shower sponge lol. It was big enough to hold on and not too small to come off with force. But make sure you pull it from the buttons side not the top or you will rip the ribbon cable.
Thanks for the tips. Also does the screen come out with the digitizer?
I mean are they liked stuck together with glue or any thing?
Because i just need to replace the digitizer, but worry about the screen not staying in
Sent from my Arc to your eyes.
Well, after a couple of weeks with my shiny new ZE551ML (RAM 2GB) purchased overseas in a trip, today the big bastard fell and cracked the glass .
So a new screen (complete screen, even if touch and LCD still works but don't want to mess with heat gun) is on the way via Aliexpress, I've done some similar procedures on more complicated phones but can't find any official procedure or documentation for this one, maybe too new?
So anyone has a PDF or webpage with the procedure?
Best I could find is this, but many pictures are missing

I do not know unfortunately. I would think it is tape, as most tend to be tape, but I couldn't say for certainty.
If you would like to set up an Out-of-Warranty RMA for ASUS to repair please send me a private message at [email protected].
Or you may apply for an RMA online at http://www.asus.com/us/support/
Please ensure to mention the damage otherwise it will be rejected if received with no reported damage.

Here's an album I've used to replace my screen, (pictures are from the first link I've posted before) there are a couple of things to consider that aren't one these pictures nor any on the internet and don't make the sames mistakes I did. If you have pictures, and working screens from a different seller, please post it and I'll add it to the thread .

The tools I've used are screwdriver, a metal spudger, double-tape for cellphone repair, and a heat gun. And of course, your replacement screen. In my case I've purchased for 30 dol. on Aliexpress, but did not come with adhesive or tape so you have to have your own.
To remove the first section (4th picture), not only do you need to remove the cover and black and silver screws, but be careful because the center "rails" (the plastic parts to the sides of where the double sim and sd-card are) of the section are fixed to the battery section with "light" double tape, nothing too strong and can be lifted with care.
In the 5th picture, lift the white part of the connector and very carfeully to remove the ribbon. I've made the mistake to be too forceful and cracked the black part a litlle bit.
WARNING! THIS STEP IS THE MOST DIFFICULT, MANY PEOPLE BREAK THEIR BATTERY WHEN REMOVING, SO BE CAREFUL. AGAIN, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
Now, one of the most difficult parts of the teardown is between 5th and 6th picture. After removing the uppers ribbon you have to take the battery compartment, and let me tell you that the white double-tape that glues the battery to the frame is one of the strongest i've ever encountered. A metal spudger can be helpful and you can start with pressing the left side, but don't separate too much or go too deep cause you might damage the envelope of the battery (I scrapped and exposed a litlle bit of the cells, but for the moment the phone works and don't heat. Just in case, I already ordered a new battery) . So be extra careful on this step.
In the 7th picture, things looks a little different of what I've found, the upper board has a metal protection that's soldered so DON'T TAKE IT OUT! Remove the upper left small ribbon very carefully. The cables on the down board that connects to the vibration motor are very fragile so be careful.
At this point, you can remove the speaker (I didn't) and you have the upper section, so the real hard work starts to be able to replace your screen. I'm sorry but i didn't take many pictures of this procedure, but again a metal spudger was helpful to be able to separate the cracked screen from the frame.
Remove all pieces of glue, glass or residue that's still on the frame and put the first part of the double-tape on the frame but don't take the upper part just yet. Take the replacement part and check it fits on the frame, paying atention to the two ribbons, one in the middle and other in the upper side. In my case, when I did put the screen I started with the upper ribbon and then guided the middle ribbon to it's hole and then fit the screen to the frame.
Make all the steps in backward order to be able to re-assemble the phone. The final optional step I did, is to seal the double-tape in the screen with the heat gun and some weight (I used a 2.5 drive and a couple of 3.5)
So in the end, I managed to replace the screen with only a couple of small mistakes. When my new battery arrives, the steps will be similar (I removed the white strong double tape with a light adhesive one, so it will be more easy to remove and replace the battery).
All in all, it went pretty well
LIST OF SELLERS WITH WORKING PARTS, according to users
AliExpress - Shenzhen OMG Trade co.,LTD - Screen For ZE551ML - USD 22.39 - gipikay (OP)
Nice to see someone succeeded, I laughted at the big hard drive lol Those 3.5'' HDs are huge. 30$ for the 5.5'' 1080p screen is pretty good, there are for 20$ too.
I tried once replacing an iphone 4 lcd but the problem ended up to be the motherboard.
btw Does anyone know where is the Intel GSM modem located on the motherboard? I see nothing from those pictures about the modem. I could not find a reliable way of disabling it, tried scripts, deleting dial etc apks and /lib/ril files, cellphone still searches for signal with no sim inserted and airplane mode on.
Back when I ordered, this one was the cheapest and the only one for ZE551ML (now the same vendor lists the screen as USD 25).
If I could guess, the modem should be in the upper board, under the metal shielding (the stock pictures indicates two visibles intel chips under the enclosure, maybe a third in the right, and one down in the board)
Thanks, so will it need to be unsoldered for removal? I only use voip and cannot use gsm anyway.
Experienced basically the exact the same when i changed my display essambly. I broke the foil around the battery too, only problem is I can not find any vendor selling a replacement battery. Can you give me a hint where to buy it?
Thanks in advance!

The new battery has not arrived yet
But a couple of scares aside ( if I completely drain the battery, it takes a litlle longer to reach minimal charge to power on ), the old battery seem to hold for the moment.
EDIT: See post #21, the sellers sent me the wrong battery, I think it's for Zenfone 5. Now I'm waiting for AsusParts to ship me a new replacement
Be careful
If anyone tries this, use extreme caution. I exposed some cells on the battery and a little smoke came out. I don't really know what to do from here because I'm afraid to continue this further. I guess I'm out of a 300 dollar phone and 30 dollar screen
Hi all
I ordered ZE551ML for my ZE550ML .... and the person already shipped so couldn't change the order
is it ok or i have to ship it back?
is it only PPI and resolution ?
Hi guys
Failed ... Got the 551ML and mounted on 550ML
Screen turns on but no Asus initial logo etc... Is not working
Mounted all out of the box... Not removing completely the broken screen.
Main board and battery connectors only.
You guys think anything can help ?
Hey guys my screen is broken, but the touch screen is not, but some guys told me to buy the touch screen too. If someone here got broke his mi max and he replace the screen please I would like to know which screen he bought... I heard a lot of things about the colours. That the market screens are not original and the colours are very weak. So PLEASE.. I need you IMMEDIATELY
In generally...
Firs of all check with Aida64 which panel is used as their is more than one used in Mi Max. Usually it is Tianma R63350 & all do Tianma have a very good distribution network across the EU you won't find any references for this particular display. Second part should be to check if it's just touch panel/protective glass broken or you need a complete set (touch, glass, LCD).
Digitizer/glass will cost you 8.30$
https://www.parts4repair.com/touch-screen-digitizer-for-xiaomi-mi-max-white/
Complete pack with LCD/Digitizer and glass will cost you 35~36$ (tip don't pay more for it).
https://www.parts4repair.com/complete-screen-assembly-for-xiaomi-mi-max-white/
Warning; before purchasing the set be certain to see & confirm (from seller side) how its a same LCD display!
For additional info, finding possible better deal, replacement guides and cetera just search in browser for "xiaomi mi max display replacement".
My personal advice is that when you purchase the part's gave them for replacing to skilled professional in mobile services repair shop close to you & naturally try to bargain about the price.
Best regards.
I just bought whatever was cheapest on eBay. I haven't noticed any issues with the screen but the three buttons below the screen are no longer evenly lit, it used to bother me but now I don't even notice.
I have never replaced the touchscreen and screen separately, but when trying to replace my screen I definitely broke both so I would recommend buying both parts. Try to get the glue for the screen too! I had to use some super glue so I am pretty sure I can never replace it again.

Hi everyone, i broke the screen of my phone (mi A2 lite)
The only video that i could find to replace my screen was this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRE6Dc93zvY
(Redmi 6 Pro is another name for the a2 lite)
The screen seems to be just below the motherboard and it seems extremely difficult to replace it !
Am i missing something ?
Any help will be very useful, i really like this phone !
Thanks a lot in advance,
Samt434
That video is your best guide currently. Yes you will have to remove the motherboard and battery to replace the screen.
Make shure you get the full display assembly including the frame like here. Then you only have to follow the instructions from the video. Hope youre successfull!
Hello I have changed my display according to video and almost erverything works like it should be...
Everytime I recive or make a phone call display goes down, and It doesn't light on.
Have I done something wrong? I've moved all components to new display ( according to video ).
Tanks

Used the video to replace my screen, thank you !
I don't have the same problem as you, light going down during phone call.

Sounds like a proximity sensor issue to me... Check if you plugged correctly all the flat cables.
I had a Mi A2 Lite for screen replacement yesterday. Check if you placed the rubber part which goes around the sensor correctly. There s a very small part which you need to align correctly or your sensors get covered.
Numb digtizer
Hey Guys,
Also tried to fix my a2 lite. Now some time after the repair I noticed, that my digitizer is unresponsive in a 1cm wide row in the middle of the screen. Everything else works perfectly fine.
Do you have any ideas of the course of this? My suggestions are:
The Tape i used to glue he battery back in was to thick and now is pressuring the screen.
I did not connect to the cable correctly
The screen was broken before
Do you have an other idea? the
Is the A23 Lite supposed to have gorilla glass or something similar? Bought oen second hand where the seller said he had it replaced professionally, but I recently slightly bumped it, and it already cracked. Making me think its one of those cheap fakes from China.

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not hit and bump resistant...

Not true whatsoever, I had many phones with it and they survived many hits and bumps, this one cracked at the slightest tap already, in fact, I actually accidentally did it again and it cracked again at a different spot, and it was barely hit even. It's definitely cheap glass.

I know this is old but did you ever get it sorted out? I ran into the same issue when I replaced my screen. However I followed this guide and the sensor works as it should.
I was able to buy a new A2 Lite screen & frame for $20. I just swapped everything into the new frame by following the video in the first post (as well as Googling for other tear downs). Process was fairly easy...just made sure I watched and understood which part was which. Actually, the hardest part was getting the battery out. When I was pulling the tape out it broke and kept the battery secured very, very well. Anyway, took about an hour but now I have a perfectly good phone again!
Thanks for sharing the link in the first post to get me started.

Hi, I bought 3 different OPO screen replacements at Aliexpress. As you said, the quality is so different. The first one was simply very pale and dark, the second one is the screen itself is OK, but touch screen and cable was so fragile. Te last one is completely fine. This is not the original, but if you just use it, you don't see the difference.

They offer the screen with and without the frame. ( Some said with the frame is easier for the beginner) I myself bought a screen without the frame. then you may need a double side tape (2mm) like below.

There are many instructions at youtube. But I used the below.

You may have already replaced yours, but as other poster said, quality is a crap shot sometimes.
First one I bought from Amazon. Great packaging and looked great, but frame was 1mm to wide, so volume buttons were permanently depressed (so each reboot went to recovery). Returned that one.
Bought another from eBay here, frame is PERFECT size. Screen has a slightly blue hue, but not noticeable really. No tools come with this one, so you need a pry tool and screw drivers.
Word of caution, the internal antenna can break very easily if you are not VERY careful when disassembling. Additional antennas are here. I recommend getting a couple.
Hi! I need a replacement screen as well, because a stripe in the middle of mine stopped working.
After tons of research on Aliexpress i don't know which one to decide between these 2:
1) https://it.aliexpress.com/item/Orig...ml?spm=a2g0o.cart.99999999.259.30453c00U4QgqW
This one costs almost twice the others, but i contacted the seller and he said it's an original one (don't know how much i can trust him).
2) https://it.aliexpress.com/item/Tras...ml?spm=a2g0o.cart.99999999.259.30453c008Kl1tr
This one has same price as most of the other screens and has lots of good reviews, but i know it must be a clone.

I also looked into this one but i saw several reviews about dead pixels so i discarded it.
Anyone who bought any screen, share your experience please!!!

I have attached screen samples. OPO original, low quality and good quality replacement from Aliexpress. I don't think that you will get the origianl OEM screen replacement from Aliexpress.
It seems that Replacebase (UK supplier) sells the OEM (original) screen replacement for OPO. I haven't tested this screen, but their OPO red battery is really great. (See XDA forum discussion)
