G4 won't start up - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was browsing the web on my G4 earlier today when the screen just turned black, tried turning it back on but nothing happened then my smart watch brief to say it had lost connection to my phone so presumably it had switched off.
Been trying for the last hour or so to stay it up again but nothing works. I've tried holding the power button for 30-60 seconds, pulling the battery, charging it but no joy.
The battery was around 85% charged when this all happened and when I plug the phone into a power source the LED doesn't come on so it doesn't even look like it's drawing power.
Any ideas on what has gone wrong or how to fix?
Thanks

Having the exact same issue (Sprint Variant). Phone was fine, stock/unrooted, sitting on my desk with 80%+ battery. Checked on phone 10 minutes later, never turned back on or responds to charging.

Errr, mine as well.
Change the battery and try a factory reset but nothing change.

My girlfriend's g4 had this three weeks ago, nothing worked to get it to switch back on. She had to send it to LG for repair and it came back today saying they had replaced a faulty main board. Her g4's serial number started with 505.
What do yours start with because I know of at least 3 others that have had the same thing happen over the last month, all after a out nine months of purchasing the phone.

Try the freezer method maybe you can then backup your data at least.
Serial starting with 5xx?

[Q] Charging issue that defies common sense...

I searched here and google and found various charging issues but none quite like what I am seeing. The night before last, I plugged my A100 in before bed like I normally do and saw the power light turn orange. In the morning, I unplugged it without even looking at the LED because I just expected it to have charged completely. When I got to my car and turned it on, it was at 32%. I thought maybe I had something running that was eating battery or I didn't plug it in all the way overnight so it didn't charge. I plugged it into the car charger and went to work. When I got to work it was still at 32% but I didn't use it the whole time so I thought that was odd. I pretty much didn't use it the whole day since I knew it was low on power and I didn't have a charger at work. I got home and saw that it was at 28% so I plugged it in. About an hour later, I checked and it was still at 28%. Thinking that was odd, I turned it off and left it charging with it off for an hour. Turned it back on an hour later and still at 28%. I spent a little time using it while plugged in trying to kill off apps and things but it drained to 18% even though it was plugged in, the power LED showed orange, and the battery icon on screen showed charging (lighting bolt). At this point I started to worry that something was seriously wrong. I turned it *off* and left it plugged in all night after checking to make sure the LED was orange. In the morning, the LED had turned off completely (not blue or orange). I turned it on and saw that it was still at 18% even after charging all night turned off. I unplugged and replugged and the LED came on orange again.
So here is where it gets really strange.. I decide to go through RMA process since I'm still under warranty. I don't want my private data on it when sending it to them so I do a wipe. On a whim, I plug it back in after the wipe and guess what? It's charging! What the heck?!?! I had thought maybe I installed something that was causing problems but since it wasn't charging even when turned off, I figured it couldn't be an app. Can an application cause the device not to charge even in the off state? I thought maybe my battery stats had gotten corrupted so the percentage readout wasn't accurate but right after wiping the data, the battery was reading 18% just as before the wipe.
Any thoughts? Anyone ever see anything similar? My gut says to RMA it still.
Reboot the device.
It's a bug that happened to me on Honeycomb all the time with A100. (No longer happens on ICS)
Did you actually read the OP?
Sent from my Acer Iconia Tab A100 using Tapatalk
Yes, multiple reboots didn't help. No charging even when off. Started charging after wipe. Very odd.
So, after my wipe, I set out to see if I could get it to fail again. I loaded a couple of apps that I had loaded a couple of days before this happened and it stopped charging again. Unloaded each of those apps and still no charging. Did another wipe and still no charging. Conclusion is it's busted and just randomly charges on occasion. Sending it in for RMA today. Still very odd that it was reliably charging after that first wipe.
I myself am experiencing exactally the same problem. Any fix found?

Similar thing happened to me. The only thing is I didn't realize it wasn't charging until it was too late and the battery was at 5%. After it shut off, the only way i could get it to turn on was by holding down the power button and plugging in the charger. It didn't get to try a data wipe (didn't have enough time lol). I sent it back and they replaced the system board. Said it was not recognizing the battery properly.
I own two tabs, and one had this issue, the fix is actually quite simple. Let the tab die. No battery life at all. Then, when your sure its dead, plug it back in, and let it charge to full. I haven't had the issue on the tab since.

my charge is on 3% too, but no good luck for me. seems a most serius problem
thanks.
any news guys? I bought a old ACER A100 and only power on while it plug in, so I went ahead and changed the battary, it still does not get charge.
Is the happening on complete stock? Or a custom ROM, if so, which one.
Also, reflash said ROM if applicable, and make sure the data is wiped.
I like the drain the battery idea, although its risky, these tabs can brick if it gets below 10%, current/voltage act weird when its low and blow a breaker inside and keep it from turning on.

What percent does it show the battery at while it's on?

My tab has the charging issue, but it is self inflicted. It was dropped, which cracked the lcd screen. I ordered one after a week or so and replaced it. At this point is when the charging issue cropped up. It powers on only if plugged in, and will get to 3% charge no matter how long it is plugged in. It will also only show the 3% if the charger is unplugged. It will then run for a few minutes until the battery dies. Also, the orange charge blinks about one minute after the charger is plugged in.
I found a reference on the web that if the battery charge gets too low the A100 can't charge it. I also found references that people had this problem, and Acer replaced the mb. I took a shot on the battery since it was a lot cheaper. Still the same. That doesn't the battery was not the issue since it was an ebay battery. So for now I just use it in the living room, plugged into outlet. Works good for that.

Ha! Found my own post by doing google query. Wow, didn't know this thread was still somewhat alive. So, I sent mine back as I mentioned in my last post back in February and they took a week and sent it back to me completely untouched. Basically said it was fixed but the same problem existed. I sent it in after a wipe but I did configure my wifi access point before I sent. When I got it back, my access point connected immediately and it still would not charge. I called them right back furious and demanded they provide shipping back to them because they clearly did nothing. They finally agreed and I shipped it back. After another two weeks of transit and repair time, I got my tablet back and this time it appeared to be fixed.
So, flash forward to 3 weeks ago. One morning I woke up and the tablet wouldn't power on. Black screen but the home "button" would light up when touched and power button would light up when plugged in and such. After several attempts to reset by holding down power button and using the recessed reset button, it was still not responsive. Tried up volume (and down volume) while powering pressing power button.. tried holding down reset button while pressing power button.. all with no result. Submitted rma request and was immediately granted without review. Sent it in and after about two weeks, got it back and it appeared to be working fine. Just this past weekend (about a week after I got the tablet back), I noticed that it was 3% after sitting on the charger for 2 days straight over thanksgiving. ARG!! Looks like another round of RMA here. I have not tried wiping but last time the charging issue happened, it was intermittent for about 2-3 weeks getting worse and worse before finally never charging. I am now near the end of my warranty period and I worry that if I send it back now, they will just turn it around and say it started charging after a wipe. What a piece of ... this is? This will be the 4th times in one year of ownership. I've almost spent the difference in cost between this tablet and other more expensive options in time and shipping alone.
I will try wiping it and then running it all the way down. Although I almost want it to fail hard right now so I can get it RMA'd before my warranty is up.

[Q] Help!!!!! Screen going on and off idk what to do!!!

first of all thank you for taking the time to read through this.
Yesterday I woke up and reached over to check my LG G3. I had left it charging overnight as I usually do and while the phone was still plugged in and I tried to go through my notifications, the screen flickered and went off. I was puzzled cause the phone was fully charged and the screen has no cracks and barely any scratches. I was trying to restart it and the LED light started flashing as I heard a notification sound.... I proceeded to take out the battery hoping thatd help out and nothing.
I thought my LCD took a **** on me but I tried to restart the phone once more about an hour later and then the LG logo came on shinny as ever. Then the AT&T logo, I thought all was well but then the screen flickered again and went off. A few moments later I started to hear more notification sounds and I saw the LED light start blinking.... everything in the phone works except the screen.
I changed my sim card to an old blackberry knock off so I wouldnt be cut off from the world while I went to work and when I came home I tried to play with it once more and the phone started working normally! As I was playing with it I raised the brightness and the screen started to flicker again but did not shut off. I immediately brought down the brightness and the phone seemed to work normally I then tried to open the camera and the screen went off completely same happened when I tried to refresh an app. What could this be? the battery? currently I the screen doesnt stay on for more than 10 seconds and does not work at all when plugged in to charge
Also in the last couple of weeks I was experiencing overheating but I assumed it was because of the rise in temperatures and the fact I spend most of my day outside and Im constantly using my phone. I am also guilty of using my phone while charging.
Any input you may have is going to be helpful. I need to figure this out as I use my phone to work more efficiently.
Thank you in advance!
I am having the same issue. I'm going to contact LG about this on Monday.

got answer ?
Yeah, they changed the entire display and said that the error could come from a defect battery. So i bought a new one and hoped for the best.
I still had the error today. I will try installing another rom so I can be sure it isn't the software.
Or else LG will be getting it again.

Well, they got it again... Twice. They changed the LCD panel and the mainboard. It seems that the latter fixed it. I got it back on Saturday and haven't had any problems since then.
Fingers crossed

I forgot about this post but I used my warranty last year and got a new phone or refurbished. They didn't tell me. Here I am a year later with the new phone and the same problem came back. The only thing that seems to work is baking the main board at 350 for 10 minutes and letting it cool down in the oven for 30 yet the problem comes back. After a week or so. I'm convinced the overheating of the phone is he culprit

LG G4 won't turn on

I have a G4 with Verizon and on Sunday I powered it down to swap my battery. I had about 30% left on the battery in the phone and a fully charged spare. I put the second battery in and since then it will not power on. I have tried both batteries and connected it to the power adapter... nothing happens (no lights, sounds, or vibrations). I called Verizon and they are sending me a refurb replacement but I'll need to send this one back once that device is up and running. I want to see if anyone has ideas on how to eliminate my data. I do have a SD card with my pictures so that's fine. I just want to erase everything else.
I have been playing with the phone for the past day and a half and I have gotten it to power on for a brief moment here or there. It is very random and sometimes it will show the LG splash screen and then it goes back out. I also have had it vibrate like it is turning on only not to show anything. A couple of times it has vibrated for over a minute straight before cutting back out. And while it was sitting on my desk it was rebooting itself several times earlier today until giving up. Also, when I plug it into my PC I do hear the Windows sound that you get when connecting a drive. But no drive letters appear. I am hopeful that I can get it to turn on long enough to erase everything. The phone is not rooted and is using the latest Android OS (I believe it was 5.1.1) that Verizon sent out in November.
I did not notice any other issues recently and I have swapped batteries dozens of times and never had this problem. It was powered off properly prior to this all happening. If anyone has any ideas of ways I can try to get it back on that would be great. Thank you!
Edit: Also, pressing the volume down and power together does nothing. Only way I have ever got the phone to respond in the past 24 hours is holding power for 20+ seconds and maybe it will work. But then it turns back off.
same here. dunno what to do since i bought mine used on swappa!
Sound like the hardware problem other users have had, including myself just about 2 weeks ago. If this is the case try putting the phone in the freezer for 10 to 20 minutes (I know it sounds crazy) but it worked for me and some others. I was able to power the phone up long enough to get it into recover (pressing the power button + volume down) long enough for me to wipe my data before sending it back. When I put the phone in the freezer I left the batter in and the back cover on.

The phone is still not quite a year old. Contact LG as they have a 1 year warranty. You are running out of time though. They never asked me for a receipt as they knew within a year if it died the fix was on them.
LG G4 is a very vulnerable phone and LG’s Head of US Marketing has accepted that the LG g 4s manufactured before september 2015 had its own set of problems. Follow this guide https://appuals.com/fix-lg-g4-wont-turn/ in order to resolve your phone issues. If this doesn't help, you can send the phone for repair or replacement.

LG G3 D851 won't turn on!

Hey everyone,
I was using facebook while my G3 was charging and it suddenly turned off and since then it's not turning on. I've tried everything I could but unfortunately nothing has helped. There is no display and it seems like my phone is dead. A positive note is, when I put it on charge, display comes for just 2-3 seconds and it shows the phone is charging but then it disappears too and nothing happens. One of the repairman suggests that it's motherboard is not working anymore but to this I disagree cause if that was the case, the phone won't show a display even for a second? Please if anyone could help me. Thanks!
DId you try leaving the phone on a charger for a few hours? Maybe the phone needs a new battery?
Yeah I've tried 3-4 new batteries too, still it doesn't work. But one thing that's happening now is my phone is turning on, but it reboots (or turns off sometimes) when reaches the home screen or just before that. Same is happening when I enter into download mode.

[H812] G4 Died Overnight?

My G4 was plugged in overnight to charge, and on the following day, I woke up to notice it was completely dead. Strange I thought because it wouldn't respond to anything (recovery/download mode, normal boot, etc.). I assumed it was just the battery's time to die so I ordered a new one off Amazon (PowerBear). I put it in the phone, and it started turning on. Whew, it's back... Right? Suddenly, the screen shuts off during the LG boot logo (before the animation). WTF? Now I'm back at square one. Phone doesn't respond to anything. A couple battery tricks where I take it out and hold the power button for 30 seconds can sometimes get it to show the empty battery screen when connected to my computer, but even that's very rare. If I try putting the battery in at this part, it shows a battery loading animation and then the phone freezes indefinitely.
I've tried multiple USB cables, computers, and A/C adapters. No matter what, I can't get the phone into recovery or download mode. My computers can detect the correct driver as the phone is dead but it still won't work in LGUP. I've also returned the PowerBear battery, arguably prematurely.
If it's of any relevance, I had my G4 screen replaced by a third-party repair store a month prior to this incident, and I find it hard to believe it's just a coincidence my phone dies not too long after. Based off what I know, this isn't a bootloop issue. My friend who works at another repair shop insists it's the motherboard but can't fix it since they no longer have an LG technician. However, before all this, my Android OS was acting super funky - "Android is upgrading 300 apps..." for 20mins upon each reboot, despite it being the latest software, and my data limits had a glitched out schedule where it thought the phone was in the year 2023 despite date/time being set correctly. I had plans to reset the software but not being able to boot the phone anymore has prevented it, obviously.
According to the serial number, the phone was manufactured in November 2015, which I believe is past the date of when the faulty G4s were distributed. So what gives!?
The freakiest part of this is that my iPhone 7 Plus - which was at 100% battery (unplugged) before I fell asleep, was completely drained when I woke up on the same day. I also have no idea what that's about.
Any and all replies are appreciated. Thanks for reading!

All devices up to March 2016 (so 603) are affected by the ilapo. Your story above sounds exactly like the ilapo. Read my signature for the ilapo fix list which may bring up some hours/days/months life back.

I had something similar happen, except it is a 2016 model, I believe, to sum it up:
The battery seemed to be starting to die, so I bought a battery of eBay, but it also was having pretty bad battery life, so I drained the battery, to calibrate it, but now my G4 (H812) refuses to show any sign of life when I plug it in, or try to turn it on, is it also the Ilapo/Bootloop issue, or something else?
