There are users who have flashed to a 'Generic ROM' saying that they have seen an improvement in the battery life. So I was wondering if anyone who has received a Desire from T-mobile (with software above) can comment on battery life.
Since the change logs seem either to be non-existent or vague, I just wanted to know if the latest T-mobile ROM has the same 'fixes' as the generic ROM (with the latest FOTA).
mine came with the latest software on saturday

That's the thing, I dont think they are. People with the new version are those who received the devices more recently and already have the latest one installed.

Thanks...oh yes, I saw your original post.
I hoping for someone who has updates on a higher frequency to compare with my usage (with older revision software)
t mobile
has anyone actually called T - mobile?
I Have latest version, received last Thursday. After a few days the battery life has improved immensely. I had a htc magic before and the battery outlasts that. Probably lasts 25% longer.
I only have one issue and that is that streamed video cuts out after a period - 5 minutes or so. Oh and the weather widget is still a pain in the ar*e
But all in all very impressed. The web browsing is a dream. fast and excellent with pinch and zoom. screen is gorgeous and not a pink tint in sight on mine!
Oh and the fact that there are loads of apps missing on market that I could get with HTC Magic but it seems to be the general consensus on forums that these will become available over next couple of weeks, I do hope so.
well that sucks a tiny bit do they include change logs with these updates or is it all secretive

I have the T-mobile ROM, and my battery life is pretty rubbish. To top it off I find that once it fills up, it doesn't trickle charge, so it looses power even though it's plugged in.
I called up T-mobile about this to see if it was an issue with the software (hoping that they would send me another phone with updated software). The first lady told me there was a software update, sent me a link to the T-mobile website, but the link didn't work. I think she may have been refering to the HTC update, which we can't get.
The second lady I talked to sent me to delivery department, but instead of a new phone, they're sending me another battery. Which is welcome, but if the software update doesn't come soon (and the update actually does improve battery life), then the battery they're sending won't really be good enough for me.
Will give them another ring tomorrow, to either get a date of the update, or a new phone.
Yesterday got new system update now all my browsers are forcing close all the time anyone else had this problem
I'm not having force close issues but I've had to reboot like three or four times for various reasons. Once every time I would open the browser I would only get an all black screen. And earlier my status bar(or whatever you call that black bar that runs across the whole bottom of the screen) got stuck at half size and unusable after an alert tried to come up. There were a few more issues.
Wonder If Acer Removed Update?
Acer often screws up their updates - has anyone in US received update lately?

Just an update on this. This hasn't happened again.
I got the update maybe a few days ago, haven't had any problems with it so far except once when the browser wouldn't open any new tabs, then force closed, but that only happened once, after that it was fine.
no update yet fl

The way around it is to play the music/movie without the headphones plugged in. Then, plug them in and the sound will stop playing from the speakers and just the headphones. If you plug them in first, they still play through the speakers.

Sounds interesting! Sure hope that I'll get it soon! Does the 3.2.1 update do anything to make the UI more smooth and fluid? After getting an iPad last week, Ive really noticed how choppy the UI in Honeycomb is, and all of the occasional slowdowns a lot more...

Acer support told me that Canada should get the update for 3.21 late dec early january. And that update packages are rolled out by region, and schedule is set by Taiwan.
Nor very encouraging as to ICS update then, which they would not comment on

Honestly it makes me so angry. There's so much work that goes into the development of these devices. Can you imagine what it must feel like to pour your heart and soul into engineering & development work, only to have the support folks fail it so hard?
ICS should have been released a week after the sources became available.
The headphone problem should never have made it out of QA. But it also should have been fixed within days of it being reported, and pushed out, worldwide, the moment it passed QA. Instead, this Canadian still has not received it (though I'm applying it manually, right now). It's been months since this problem was reported.
I know no manufacturer is perfect, and there are a lot of products to manage, but this is just irresponsible. Come on, Acer. You're not a charity. We paid good money. Now support your devices.
I thought I would start a poll thread to see if we can gauge the effectiveness of the latest 1.29.401.11 ota update in fixing our screen flicker problems.
It will be best to submit your personal result after a few days usage as the fix apparently takes a few days to learn and adjust your voltage before it can be come noticeable.
Let's hope the results are favourable.
Update (17th May):
Well, so far so good for the latest update, the signs are very positive for a lot of users, still not happening for some although as a few of you have said it is early days to be feeding back on the effectiveness of the update, as HTC have said it can take 1-2 weeks for the flicker to go away. Although there is a fast fix method you can try which is working for many:
Fast fix (after a full charge):
Unplug device from charge
Turn the screen up to full brightness and disable auto adjust
Use the device/leave it on for 1 hour
Turn the screen off and leave it off for 5-10 minutes
Turn the screen back on and use at full brightness again for another hour
Repeat the process for 4-5 cycles
I would then advise returning the screen to your normal brightness settings and using it as normal for a few further days to see if the issue totally goes away
Report back if you can.
I cant vote till I am on the xda app right now but my flicker is gone since today. I updated yesterday and let it on full brightness some time
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I have only experienced the flicker issue once when 3G was disabled and I was connected via EDGE but I was not able to reproduce this behavior.
I will report after few days of testing. So far I can tell its still there, maybe got abit better, but need to test more.

These are positive signs.
It's been told that it can take up to 14 days to correct itself and you're saying people should vote after a few days usage. I'm sorry but what is the point of opening this thread right now?
I'm saying this because people don't read. They'll check whether the issue is gone right after updating to 1.29 OTA and vote accordingly. And that will cause a misleading poll for people like me waiting to buy this phone because of this issue. At least the poll should be closed right now.

I totally agree with this. The poll should be put on hold, or at least someone should vote after say 5/10 days of usage (and/or) few days with max brightness.

As it states in the OP, it is best to post after a few days usage with the latest update.
However many people are already reporting the flicker as fixed or getting better, and many people are trying the fast fix by leaving the screen on full brightness and this poll gives those 1X owners the opportunity to vote on preliminary findings.
I, and others already see the poll as useful, I am in the same boat as UMD, waiting to see if the issues are going to be resolved through a software update before I pull the trigger and buy the handset.
I can confirm that the flickering seems to disappear!! My device struggled with the flickering problem when it runs @ max. brightness level and from time to time while on auto brightness. After installing der latest OTA yesterday @ 7 pm i set it to max. brightness and used it very much, till device ran out of juice!
While it has been on charge i did NOT use the device! After full charge im running it again at max. brightness and playin' around (Whatsapp, some games, browsing). I check nearly every 15-30 minutes my battery graph because i experienced the heaviest flickering while seeing that battery screen like in the attachments @ the end of my post!
Furthermore i am checking the full grey image in the HTC pictures app again and again.
What can i say? It is getting MUCH MUCH better every hour! Before the update i had sometimes very bad flickering but now it is nearly gone! Another thing i would like to say is that it is NOT related to heat because i just played Shadowgun and Glowball and the HOX had a temperature of 47°C! After the gaming session i opened the full grey picture and the flickering has NOT regained!
You can check the flickering with the two pics i added in the attachments!
I will report when the flickering has completly gone! But i want to say that open a full grey picture and let it stay with display timeout set to zero did NOT change anything for me! I had to play around so that the display contents changed.
Didnt have it before... So cant vote ....

Got new 360 directly form Moto yesterday, the build is still KKW22 with software 4.4W. From what I understand it's an older build. I can't update to newer KGW42N 4.4w1. I tried to manual update, but it says system is up to date. HORRIBLE battery life on KKW22. Took it off charger at 7:00am and its dead at 11:00am. Ambient, or in this case screen always on mode off. With MINIMAL use. WTF?? How can i update to the newer KGW42N update?

Having the same problem. Can't update and battery life is horrible.
another thing ive noticed is I cannot get the notification settings right... either my notifications work on my phone and watch (vibrate) or they are both silent...
IE, if I put my phone on vibrate mode, my watch will not vibrate for notifications.
If I have the sound on for my phone, my phone will still have notification sounds even though I have "notifications on watch only" setup.
Was reading this thread when I got the notification for the System Update.
SO, they're rolling out....
and...the moto360 is DEAD serious about being at 80% charge before running updates.

Got mine from Moto-- doing the update (I had previously charged my battery) but now during the update it says "Charge your battery". Makes sense. Cept when i'm on the charger, i'm already at 75%. Is there a cutoff point before it does update?
edit: oh. 80%. my bad.

This is when the international versions will begin to receive the update. Look for AT&T (and the other carriers) to hold that update at least 3 to 6 months extra to add their bloat.

I'm happy with mine, too. I got so obsessed with flashing Roms on my first 3 galaxies that I finally got burnt out on it. Sure, root would be nice, but I'm fine with the device as is. That's quite a broad question but I'll try to give you details. I've disabled anything I don't use or that I know cause battery drain. There are several apps in the app manager that aren't "useable" apps, and they aren't in the app drawer, but cause significant battery drain - disabled without negative results. I switch between touchwiz and Nova Prime launchers (and have noticed no difference in battery drain). I keep things like wifi and Bluetooth disabled if I'm not using them. Auto brightness turned off. I keep location on but only on power saving mode unless I'm traveling out if town.
That's generally it, I guess...

It's a long list. It was easier to just screenshot them. In the bottom two you can see my battery stats. I unplugged this morning around 7:15 AM and I'm down to about 47% after 8 hours and 3.5 hours screen-on time.
Today, I've checked email several times, had several phone calls, plus I've streamed youtube to a chromecast for classes that I teach, and even played a couple games during lunch. I do have lots of other apps I use, too; about 4-5 pages worth in my app drawer. Working well for me.

Kies is one way, but it sometimes takes Kies a while to get the carrier-branded firmwares. (International firmware is almost instant on the other hand).
The fastest 2 ways to get the update would be to
1) use someone's activated ATT sim in your phone. Pop it in, boot up the phone, wait a few minutes for the sim to set itself up with your phone, then check for updates. Then download, install, and then put your original sim back in.
2) Use an Odin file. The only issue with this is that you most likely will have to start from scratch with your apps and settings. Be sure to back everything up first.
You'll also have to wait for the Odin files to be released by someone, but it'll be 100x sooner than Kies.
Edit: The latest 5.1.1 Odin files are in the first post here (you'll need all 4 files in the Dropbox link):
