will Verizon Galaxy Nexus OTA come to my phone?

Hey Guys,
I used the galaxy nexus root kit to unlock my bootloader and to root my phone (I didn't install a custom rom, I just used what was default on the program after backing up my phone)
Here are my questions:
1) will I receive the official OTA upgrade / be able to install it?
2) If I am able to will that re-lock the bootloader on my phone?
I'm pretty hesitant to install any custom rom of Jellybean since I've had problems with them in the past almost leading up to a bricked phone, so I just wanted to make sure that the OTA will come to my phone, and that it'll work after I being installing it.

If I remember right, if you don't have a custom recovery installed, you should still be able to get the OTA.

hmmm well I know that there is clockworksmod on here, but nothing else. I know thats a recovery program... I wonder if I should just flash the google asop direct from google for my verizon nexus :\

My understanding of the matter is that once you are rooted with a custom recovery, you should steer clear of OTA updates. They can definitely break root and have the potential to hard brick the device. This information is from my experiences with an Evo, so things may be different with the Nexus. I've only had mine for a month or so and haven't done enough reading yet to say for certain. If you really want the OTA there is a one-click method to return to stock over in the development section. Haven't been in that thread yet, so I don't know what kind of success/failure rate it's getting. Just read the last couple of pages and you should have a pretty fair idea of how it's going. If it seems doubtful, there are also several excellent guides for doing it manually. efrant has a link to one in his sig I think. Hope this helps!

The OTA won't auto-install if you have CWM recovery flashed. You can use CWM to flash the update manually, but it will never work automatically.

Stock rom in case be Hose the Note 8?

how about if i were to hose my note 8 and need to recover to complete stock. is there anything out yet for the US WIFI version? just wondering as i might wait untill i root, install recovery etc...

I am downloading the UK version as per the suggestions in a post on the first page to this thread. I was told it is the same.I hosed mine trying the multi boot option on one of the dev threads, Cant get to my recovery so I'm kinda screwed.

Now the only way you can hose your stock firmware is to mess up a flash, or purposefully delete system files in the root.
With that said, you can safely root with Saferoot.zip. It does not flash our change your counter. So a OTA or Kies update will work as if you never touched the device.
Now that you have rooted safely, you can install Xposed framework and it's modules... they will not hose your device as they are boot only system options.
I recommend Ti backup pro, and Solid Explorer but be careful about doing anything in root, as their may be irreparable consequences without a proper ROM.
Now for recovery with a replacement ROM. There will be a new ROM release soon, so when it does come out, it will be available to download. That will be your best option to recover if needed. Note... The only way you will hose a device is through a bad flash. So I would stay away from flashing any custom bootloaders, recoverys, kernels or ROM. Until you read up and are well educated on proper flashing techniques. All I can say is stick with developers threads on the specific model and have given plenty of info on the subject. Never blindly take chances.
As for recovery after saferoot.zip... as long as you never flash afterwards, you will never need triangle away, which is a plus... all you need to do is do a factory restore. Yep, no need to run any un-rooting tools, though you can use Supersu's clean up for reinstall and reboot if you want before doing the factory reset.
I know, I have done plenty of testing with custom and factory ROMs. I have personally found no need for customized bootloaders or roms, once I have found where and what to tweak. What little benefit from the customized options that are available, were too little for the trouble involved.

I actually posted about how to mod your device using Xposed installer and 2 to 3 modules and thats all you need to get that really cool custom look if thats what you are going for. With Gravity Box and HK Themer you can mod away semi safely. You still need to be careful with any mod that makes changes in system.

[Q] MC2 to MK4 Question

Normally, if I do a search with creative enough verbage, I can find the answer here however right now that's not the case.
I have a 2 part question, but first, my device info:
- Currently I am stock rooted with TWRP recovery
- Model: SPH-L900
- Android Version: 4.1.2 on MC2 (both baseband and build)
- I was rooted when I first got the device, and had to unroot, update and reroot (using toolkit I believe)
#1. I have been seeing mixed information out there about this update (MK4) and was wondering if someone can just advise if KNOX is actually a part of the update (either OTA or LORJAY589's)? I would actually like to be able to have KNOX as it would be handy to use my device more for work.
#2. I am a fan of having my device rooted, personally I just like the ability to actually back it up fully, but there are other things that are nice too. The actual question is, if one of the updates does have KNOX in it, and its useable, is it still possible to have the device rooted?
If these could be answered, relatively simply, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm a bit of a n00b, but I have absolutely no issues with flashing my device using any of the standard methods, but a brief walkthrough would be appreciated (if only for the methods used).

So here are the steps that I want to take, if someone can advise me if I'm being stupid based on my questions that would be great:
download:
MK4 4.3 SPH-L900 Odex Full Rom Rooted (thanks again LORJAY589),
Follow the following steps (Thanks cullenmq1):
1. Download full rom rooted (either deodex or odex)
2. Download wifi fix .rar
3. Go to recovery (doesnt matter both twrp and cwm work)
4. Make a rom backup just in case
5. Full wipe (not necessary but recommended, we dont need people bricking notes)
6. Flash full rom
7. Flash wifi fix through odin (must unpack rar first and mobile odin does not work with this)
8. MAKE SURE TO THANK LORJAY589 FOR HIS AWESOME WORK!
Then basically recover all my goodies with titanium backup / re-downloading... and from there I should have NO issues with WiFi or anything else as far as anyone here is concerned (if samsung screwed something up, I'm not about to blame a XDA Dev).

I'm not a super pro dev. but when I first read lorjays post. he was very specific about what to do. he said not to listen to anyone else's instructions but his own. that included flashing through cwm. not twrp. he said it doesn't work. and I saw for myself how many people where writing and asking questions about how to fix their phones because something went wrong. they forced him to post another comment saying do not listen to anyone elses instructions. follow mine and everything will work fine. so if I were you that's what I'd do. I know cause I did. and unlike a lot of dummy's who where asking for help. I had no problems after installing

For the first question, I am not sure never rooted with that.
For the second question you do need to flash the stock. Usually people just do that to hide that it has been rooted. If it is for that purpose that you are asking, and you have flashed roms, I recommend using Triangle Away, because that erases the counter of how many ROMs you have installed.
If you are at the stock you will receive updates, and if you do the update you will lose root. I have done that in the past with my Droid Bionic. I do not recommend it though because it lagged the hell out of my phone

Well, what's the point in installing the STOCK ROM if I wanted to UNROOT in my case?? (I mean I've no warranty anyway)
Can I just unroot without flashing?
And Yes I know about Triangle Away, I've read about it recently.
For the first question>> what do you recommend for rooting NOTE 8.0 N5110 ?

As far as I know(being doing this for 3 years) There is no way to unroot without flashing the Stock Rom. The only way to flash the stock is using odin.
Honestly I do not know the best easy way to do it. All depends on the version you are at. I was on the updated version(not sure the build number). That framework apk didn't work with the version I had. The way I rooted was by first unlocking, then installed the TWRP through odin, then flashed a zip that rooted my phone. I do not recall any of the links. For the files, I lost them all because I just got a new computer and I was dumb enough to not do the back up on the other computer. Also I dont remember if there was steps in between, so I dont recommend following what I mentioned .

[Q] Newbie With Questions Rooting T-Mobile Samsung Note 3

Hello,
I'm new to this whole rooting thing (I need to root my device for a couple of apps from the Google Play store) and I've been reading all the forums and I'm scratching my head going over all the information and I want to make sure I get it right so I don't brick my phone. Here is my situation:
- I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900T) on T-Mobile USA which was purchased October 2013
- This phone is stock from T-Mobile and has never had any type of mods, etc done to it
- 2 days ago, I upgraded the software OTA to KitKat 4.4.2
- I do NOT have the 'multitouch' issue as described in some of the forums
All I want to do at the end of the day is root my phone, without damaging it - preferably without tripping KNOX either (if possible).
It is confusing to me which thread to follow. I see links / instructions for CF-Root, CF-Auto-Root, Root De La Vega, etc are from October 2013 (not sure if this latest OTA update changes the steps) and I don't know which one to use without damaging my phone. I have the AP, CP, CSC information if this helps. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Follow this exactly from step 4 (since you already have 4.4.2), and you will have no issues. All root methods as of now trip KNOX, so if you really don't want to do that, don't root.

Thanks for this! Will this erase my phone back to defaults? Do I need to backup my phone prior to rooting it?

Everything will stay as is. None of the steps does a factory reset. All that will happen is you gain root, and will be able to use the SD card like you did on 4.3. As far as a back up goes I don't think you can on stock. You need the custom recovery which this will give you. Then you can do that if you want.

Just some tips if you haven't used ODIN before, or used custom recoveries. When it does its thing, and reboots, make sure ODIN says PASS before disconnecting or shutting off. It's not in the instructions since those doing this know this, but just giving a heads up. Also on the last step after flashing the SD card fix it says to back out until you see REBOOT. When you do that you have two options. You want to press the option 1. NO, and not 2. Reset/stop custom recovery. Again it's not in the post, but you want to keep the custom recovery active, so always select NO.

Now that I have rooted my phone, I need to read up on what else I can do besides use apps from the Google Play that require root access, e.g. removing bloatware and using my phone as an Access Point.

Good to hear. One of my first apps I install is AdAway. It's not in the Play Store because Google bans all ad-blockers. If you hate ads (like me) this is a must have. If you want to try it here is the link. After you install it, and open it for the first time to install the hosts, you may be prompted to do a symlink. This is normal. Just press yes. Enjoy your root!

Good morning all, since my post above back in March, my rooted Note 3 has worked great. Today, when I connected my phone to Kies3, I see that there is an available firmware update from:
PDA:NB4 / PHONE:NB4 / CSC:NB4 (TMB)
to
PDA:NE6 / PHONE:NE6 / CSC:NE6 (TMB)
Are there any precautions I need to take if I want to upgrade to the latest firmware using Kies3 if my phone is rooted using the above procedure?

Not sure if Kies will let you update firmware as you are rooted.
You can update to the NE6 Firmware by using Odin.
Find firmware either in this forum or elsewhere and flash away.
There was a good thread here on the Tmobile GN3 Forum with dl links, and steps.

Yes there is, when you Odin, make sure you are on stock kernel, and then before you go into Odin go ahead and run triangle away, then boot into download mode. Just seems some people have had issues getting modem to flash, and getting boot loader to flash. Other than that you will have no issues. Thanks man.
