Which phone to replace a Z5 Premium ? - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, it's been some time I own this beauty, but since it bends hardly and the battery shut down a lot, I would like to change. But I can't decide myself
I was looking for XPerf or XZ, but they don't look really awesome..
5'5" is a nice size, 16Mpx min for good pic's, a Micro SD slot (200Gb) and a decent battery needed.
I'm also searching for the best music system, I really love the HighRes music (combined with a vinyl reader PS-HX500 it's so useful), so if all the Sony enhancement could be ported that'd be great
Any ideas ? f*ck budget soon it's Christmas

The V20?

thats a tough one!
if i were you! i would have tried ONEPLUS 3 , or waited for ONEPLUS4

I agree with LG V20, they also have good DAC.. but 5.7" display is too big for me..
Moto Z force also interesting, but I dont know about the music..

After sell my Z5P, i tried Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 before buy HTC 10.
I can recommend it to everyone who needs stability, superb sound, +++ build quality, nice display and pocket friendliness/ergonomics.

LG brand f.u.c.k.e.d because have not custom and root amd recovery
I have g5 and ......oh ****

I've been on the Z's family for years
I bought my first z1 on a trip in NY, then the Z2... the z3 for my wife and then z5p for my wife too. I switched back to HTC. Now I'm on htc 10, its a great hard, great dev. and is more difficult to scratch/break.
I still have the Z2, I changed the screen 2 times and the back panel like 8 or 9 times, now, I just glued all with silicone and I have a nice transparent cellphone that will no break
Anyway. HTC its great.

Thanks everybody!
I bought.... A Xperia.... Z.... 5..... Premium

Haha! So you didn't change?

[Q] Which should I buy?

Which should I buy amongst One V, Neo V and Sola..??
Also you could suggest some other good phone around Rs.20000 (its around 350$-360$ i guess)..
I need good camera, decent development community, nice battery life, and nice sound quality as well..
I need a quick suggestion..
Thnxxx in advance..
If the above 3 are your options .. damn what are you thinking about mate. Definitely sola. My friend has it and it is extremely awesome. Btw i have used the other 2 phones as well. But the final decision is in your hands.
Sent from my LG-E730 using Tapatalk 2
About nice battery life i think it's joke anyway, i recommend ONE V (maybe because i sacrifise those smartphones). It is designed much better than neo v and sola. Aluminium, Gorilla Glass, great camera (for ex. you can get ideal picture because ur phone makes 3 photos in different scenes- dark, light and auto, then it put it together in one and you have ideal photo xD) and of course beats audio think about it
First of all you shouldn't buy a phone without a gpu
I think the One V is a good phone but the hardware is almost 2 years old. The sola seems to be a bit better by the hardware and the best of all your listed phones.
But what's about the Sony Xperia P it costs around 350$? It has got a bigger display and more internal storage, just a recommendation but that phone costs around 100$ more than the sola.
Regards

[Q] What device are you upgrading from and why?

I've had nexus devices (Nexus 4 then 5) over the last couple of years and had to get used built in battery and storage. This has always bothered me to some degree as i have always felt I've had to compromise one way or another.
The LG G3 now seems to tick all the boxes. Ive never spent the best part £500 on a phone, however i think the LG G3 covers all the bases with removable battery and Micro SD storage plus additional upgrades all round.
The one thing i do love about my nexus 5 is the screen, just hope the screen is a big enough improvement to warrant the expense.
What are your reasons for upgrading from your current device?
I have a RAZR MAXX (not HD). The battery doesn't hold a charge so well any more, and the radio is acting wonky (periodic loss of data connection, requires a phone restart). It's served me well, but time to retire it.
Personally I wish LG had stayed with a 5" 1080 screen, for overall size and run time, but the G3 looks like it gets me to a good point -- a phone that should be a solid performer for someone who keeps them for several years before replacing.
(I have a Nexus 7 2013 that I tether to my phone when I really want a larger display. It's a great replacement for a laptop at meetings, fitted with a BT keyboard/case and mouse, so the 5.5" on the G3 is a "mehh" -- not large enough to replace my Nexus, yet a bit too large for me to be thrilled by on a phone. Everything is a compromise )
S4 why... mmm to enjoy myself ^^ I love Phone and i like photophones... it's always better^^
I really liked my Moto X, but always prefer a phone with a replaceable battery.
Then I dropped it in a horrible (ie. minor) skateboard accident, and cracked the screen. I liked the Galaxy S's, but VERY DON'T LIKE the button placement. Turn off your phone? Oops... just lowered the volume first. Make it louder? Oops... turned it off. I can't believe the S5 *still* has that terrible button placement.
So because the Moto X screen was cracked, and the battery was getting a bit lame after almost a year of use, and because Samsung still can't place a button if their lives depended on it, I turned to the very nice LG G3.
Coming from the G2, stands between the G3 or the OnePlus if I can get an invite before the G3 comes in. Why? Because the screen on my G3 have gotten a crack!
I have a Galaxy S3. (fantastic phone in its prime.)
I feel like I'm due for an upgrade. The battery life has gone down hill and I just want something new.
The G3 has really caught my attention but the questionable battery life and locked bootloader has me questioning myself. If I don't get a G3, I'll wait for the Note 4.

I had the Xperia Z before switching over to my G3.
There are so many reasons why I made the switch, but one that stands out is the poor battery life paired with the non-removable battery on the Z that always bugged me. The second reason was that the flaps of my Z were becoming lose and one even came off which rendered the water proof feature useless. The third is just the features that the G3 offers. Some say the screen and laser focus is a gimmick, but results speaks for itself. I am so glad i've purchase the G3.

Lol, nice to see some others here too. My Z Ultra is falling apart badly! That's one of 2 reasons. The other is in trying to get used to smaller screen size again. Z Ultra is pocket splitter when it comes to my work. I'm surprised I haven't broken it in 2 yet.

Well, mine is basically brand new, got it a month ago to replace my i6000 (6.5") and G2, which was just wrong phone for me.
Now really hope G3 will be my dream phone. For a while
Currently I am using Note 3 but I will get G3.
replacing my optimus 4x hd to g3
I had a Note 3 and even though I was very happy with it, I thought that a screen almost the same size with the one in Note 3 but in a smaller phone, can be a good exchange. I really want a big screen with the smallest bezels. Now I am using a Moto G and the only thing I hate is the 4.5 inch screen.

[Q] Will you buy a new one?

I love my Acro S, but would like the Z2, but if I wait a few months more there will be a better one.
Some say the z3 will be with 4.7 inch screen
Maybe its worth to wait until Sony confirm that in case you prefer small screen size
Dude go with 1+1

I agree with you, SONY smartphones have good quality (my xps have suffered in my hands), I can not say the same of the software
My Acro S has been good to me for 2 years now. I love everything about it. Still looks good now with minor scratches and some of the silver thingies scraped off, a bit. Waterproof has also been great. Never had a problem with it and has NEVER been sent to repairs in ages (no screen protector and case for sometime now too, well I'm not very much of a klutz anyways). Fingers crossed, I'd go and rely on Sony's hardware any day!
I'm eyeing for an upgrade soon. Z2 is too big for me. I'm tempted on the Z1 Compact though. Perfect size for me, high-end specs (of this time), probably has a good battery life with that 720p screen (instead of 1080p, good enough on a 4.3 inch anyways), waterproofing and hopefully a good camera. And dat pink doe! Price is already pretty cheap now and will go down further when the Z3 comes out soon. Hopefully my next phone will last the same amount of years.

LG G4 or Z2/3 ??

I was about to get Xperia Z2, but I found this phones with its brilliant Camera
Is it worth buying ? Is it a major step over Xperia Z2/Z3 ?
I will get : Better CameraS + Bigger Display + Dual Sim + IR remote.
I will sacrifice Front speakers + water and dust resistance + Battery life + Better UI -in my opinion- .. Is it worth it ?
I also read some topics here that its touch lags too much !!
I am afraid of that phone lol your opinions are appreciated
Thanks a lot )
I'm coming from Z3 and for me the G4 is better.
And why do you think Sony has an better UI? Because its more like stock Android? lol
Even with rooting, debloating, tweaking I couldn't get the Z3 fluid and the sides of the Touchscreen had problems recognizing the touches.
Sometimes I had to press a lot of times to open the menu.
Not to mention the Matrix Grid of the Touchscreen which was glowing like a Christmas tree in bright light.
After 2 months of use the glassback looked like the grand canyon...
It was just annoying in the end and thats why I sold it.
I have no touch problems on the G4 but when I bought it it already had 10c firmware available.
The front speakers of the Z3 were awesome thats true. Also the soundquality was very good.
The G4 is bigger but easier to handle than the Z3 and because of the plastic back its glued to the fingers.
I'm no fan of covers especially on these big phones. They make them bigger and uglier.
The next point on the official Sony Cover you had to glue the phone on the back. There were no holders lol.
Lol
mm what about the battery again ? when comparing the same use, either lite, medium or gaming on both phones.. how long did it last on both your Z3 and G4 ?? Cause that's my main problem with G4 now ://
battery is a BIG difference between the 2 , i also sold my dual sim Z3 for the dual sim G4 ...
easy 6 hours SOT with battery life to spare on the Z3 by the end of the day(sometimes ended with 50% and about 20-10% when i know i abused it)
and hardly 3 Hours with almost nothing to spare on the G4 but when it comes to battery life do remember this, u can pop in a new battery when needed unlike the wait to charge on the Z3...
my G4 came with a nice gift pack that included the circle cover, a bluetooth headset, a 32gb card, extra battery and charger to charge separately.
now to answer OPs
---------- Post added at 06:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:27 AM ----------
the only thing u will miss from the Z3 is its SOT and nothing else, My G4 did miss a few touches and its nothing crazy id complain about(some ppl found keyboard to be the cause and some the launcher), no lag what so ever accompanied by a lot heat which translates to lot of high freq. lg did a great job eliminating lag but heat is a killer and i know a better kernel/rom combo will fix it all up. Camera is out of this world for a smartphone, simply amazing when compared to the big players out there
what phone r u rocking currently ?
is it worth the upgrade price/performance wise?
i have my eyes set on the next Nexus(2015) made by lg and guess its a keeper with its crazy big community, just a month away for release i guess
LOL I wish I can get all of those gifts but no nothing .. not even a headset included in the box here
I am having now Xperia SP .. It is great but I was looking for a greater one
If the coming Nexus will have the same Camera, combined with a better battery + Water resistance .. this would be an Amazing phone
I will Google that now to check the rumours and last news
Thank you, mazroui )

Thoughts and opinions on Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

Hello,
Im considering buying the new Sony phone. Any thoughts on it? Is it worth buying over other premium/flagship phones?
I plan on buying it as ive found the best phones for my self to have are Nexus, LG or sony
I find that its a worthy upgrade to my Z2 and has that typical sony quality, although i had some problems with my Z2 its still an awesome device and i'd be happy to take a Z5 Premium over a LG V10 (my alternative choice)
Benefits over most phones:
4K Screen
Typically decent battery life
Decent camera (i dont care about megapixels)
Nice design and shape
(not sure about fingerprint sensor)
I REALLY like the demo units ive used
I have the V10 and Z5p. Since this is my first Sony phone I am completely loving the Z5p. I got the Black version. The Nexus 6p was never a choice after seeing the disturbing bend video on YouTube. I'm running the Z5p naked but the cases and glass screen protectors are coming in next week.

My choice is probably between these two phones and then also waiting for the samsung galaxy s7 or rumored Lg g4 pro. Any thoughts on what would be the better choice?
If you where to choose between the V10 and Z5p what would you choose?
Having owned all top end phones in the last 3 years I'm must say z5 premium sits quite well amongst the current top phones 6s Plus, Nexus 6p, S6 Edge plus, M9 plus, moto x style, Blackberry Priv. I will provide very brief reasons why i think so
Where Z5 is par or performs better the other top end phones:
4k screen(obvious) - bright and vibrant
speakers - loud crisp and clear
Design - Sold with glass back
Build quality - sturdy and waterproof
Camera
Battery life - good
UI - smooth and very little lag (only BB, Moto is better due to being closest to stock android)
SD Card
Cons
PRICE (s/be priced around £500 max)
Won't get good development support, very little

If you don't mind LG lag and ugly UI then LG is a very good choice but for me I detest it more then Samsung UI. This of course is personal preference and not necessarily objective.
As for S7 i think it's going to be worth the wait since it will probably have 4k screen and premium build, better camera and better processor. Hopefully UI would have been revamped closer to stock android. Then again there will be news leaking of other top end phones like Iphone, HTC and Sony, Motorola etc so you could find yourself waiting even longer.
As long we keeping buying they will keep churning out phones month after month, week after week. How sad!

I currently own the Nexus 6P, and had the S6 Edge (sold it).
The Sony Z5 Premium is better than every other phone out there right now....the 6P is great but I think it's just slightly out of my comfort zone of 5.5 inches. Plus the Z5P just looks absolutely fantastic....I ordered the chrome version and should have it by the end of the week.
For those comparing it to the S6 or a possible S7, don't...S7 is no where near ready for a release date....the S6 is still considered new....but just as all other Samsung phones, Touchwiz still sucks and still hurts the S6 in the end...and the software builds from Samsung are still laggy to this day! My S6 Edge always started to lag considerably after I loaded it with a good 30-50 apps...the Nexus 6P works fantastic and very smoothly regardless of what you throw at it...the Sony Z5P is the same...user experience on the Z5P is probably the best of all other phones and from the few people who I know have it say there is no slowdowns or loss of performance...I'm guessing that has a lot to do with the fact that Sony hasn't gone too far from stock Android...if you Google Sony Z5P camera pictures, you will see it is very superior.
There are a lot of people talking about CPU degradation on the S6 which is happening within months of owning it...I think this really may be true or Samsung just has a lot of bad Exynos CPUs in production....my S6 Edge was a very big letdown overall except for the camera and screen which were absolutely fantastic....the Z5P looks to excel in every aspect of a smartphone with no real negatives.

The thing that worries me is that although I am paying for a 4k display I only get to use it 10% of the time. The rest of the time the screen is in normal full hd.

Does it makes the 4k worthless and therefore not worth spending that extra money. I have also read that you cant see a difference between full hd and 4k on this sony phone.
You can easily change the DPI on the phone to full 4k full time without root...it can be done a few different ways...but honestly, wouldn't you prefer using 1080p when just browsing the web and mundane tasks? It automatically uses 4k anytime your using the camera or watching videos...what else could you possibly need 4k for? And remember, if it bothers you, just change the DPI and it can stay 4k permanently

You won't see the difference between 2k and 1080p either...its not the resolution that matters...it's the quality of the display panel that matters...there are 2k screens on many phones yet some look sharper and crisper than others...the Sony Z5P has a superior panel that looks fantastic regardless of the resolution... That's what matters.
Hand on heart, this looks sharper at 1080p than the S6 edge at 2k.
At 4k this thing looks amazing
Sent from my E6853 using Tapatalk
It does look sharp even with 1080p due to 4k screen, everything seems upscale.
I must say I can't tell the difference between this and other QHD screens.
Other 1080 screens don't look as sharp.
For me my dual Sim z5 premium have a bad battery ever seen..... Also biggest problem is the high heat beside the camera in the middle point..... Also delay when calling 2 to 3 sec..... I think this device the last one on Sony brand.... I think it's a very bad choice.... Believe me I swear....

I've had my z5p since monday. I have not had any issues with battery, call quality, screen, or speakers. I like the z5p a lot, its not as huge of an upgrade over my note 3 that I would have liked. But in all there is nothing wrong with getting the z5p. I suppose a small argument could be made about the 4k screen utilization. I think a lot of people realize that it takes a lot to push 4k and it should not surprise you the phone doesn't do 4k all the time. Be smart with your money, if the price difference between the regular z5 and the z5p is too much, then cool go with what you want.
