I've had nexus devices (Nexus 4 then 5) over the last couple of years and had to get used built in battery and storage. This has always bothered me to some degree as i have always felt I've had to compromise one way or another.
The LG G3 now seems to tick all the boxes. Ive never spent the best part £500 on a phone, however i think the LG G3 covers all the bases with removable battery and Micro SD storage plus additional upgrades all round.
The one thing i do love about my nexus 5 is the screen, just hope the screen is a big enough improvement to warrant the expense.
What are your reasons for upgrading from your current device?
I have a RAZR MAXX (not HD). The battery doesn't hold a charge so well any more, and the radio is acting wonky (periodic loss of data connection, requires a phone restart). It's served me well, but time to retire it.
Personally I wish LG had stayed with a 5" 1080 screen, for overall size and run time, but the G3 looks like it gets me to a good point -- a phone that should be a solid performer for someone who keeps them for several years before replacing.
(I have a Nexus 7 2013 that I tether to my phone when I really want a larger display. It's a great replacement for a laptop at meetings, fitted with a BT keyboard/case and mouse, so the 5.5" on the G3 is a "mehh" -- not large enough to replace my Nexus, yet a bit too large for me to be thrilled by on a phone. Everything is a compromise )
S4 why... mmm to enjoy myself ^^ I love Phone and i like photophones... it's always better^^
I really liked my Moto X, but always prefer a phone with a replaceable battery.
Then I dropped it in a horrible (ie. minor) skateboard accident, and cracked the screen. I liked the Galaxy S's, but VERY DON'T LIKE the button placement. Turn off your phone? Oops... just lowered the volume first. Make it louder? Oops... turned it off. I can't believe the S5 *still* has that terrible button placement.
So because the Moto X screen was cracked, and the battery was getting a bit lame after almost a year of use, and because Samsung still can't place a button if their lives depended on it, I turned to the very nice LG G3.
Coming from the G2, stands between the G3 or the OnePlus if I can get an invite before the G3 comes in. Why? Because the screen on my G3 have gotten a crack!
I have a Galaxy S3. (fantastic phone in its prime.)
I feel like I'm due for an upgrade. The battery life has gone down hill and I just want something new.
The G3 has really caught my attention but the questionable battery life and locked bootloader has me questioning myself. If I don't get a G3, I'll wait for the Note 4.

I had the Xperia Z before switching over to my G3.
There are so many reasons why I made the switch, but one that stands out is the poor battery life paired with the non-removable battery on the Z that always bugged me. The second reason was that the flaps of my Z were becoming lose and one even came off which rendered the water proof feature useless. The third is just the features that the G3 offers. Some say the screen and laser focus is a gimmick, but results speaks for itself. I am so glad i've purchase the G3.

Lol, nice to see some others here too. My Z Ultra is falling apart badly! That's one of 2 reasons. The other is in trying to get used to smaller screen size again. Z Ultra is pocket splitter when it comes to my work. I'm surprised I haven't broken it in 2 yet.

Well, mine is basically brand new, got it a month ago to replace my i6000 (6.5") and G2, which was just wrong phone for me.
Now really hope G3 will be my dream phone. For a while
Currently I am using Note 3 but I will get G3.
replacing my optimus 4x hd to g3
I had a Note 3 and even though I was very happy with it, I thought that a screen almost the same size with the one in Note 3 but in a smaller phone, can be a good exchange. I really want a big screen with the smallest bezels. Now I am using a Moto G and the only thing I hate is the 4.5 inch screen.

Hello everyone.
Just skimmed through separate forums for Asus Nexus 7 2013 and LG Optimus G Pro on XDA. I had my eyes set on the Nexus 7 2 tablet considering its big, full HD display, awesome gaming performance and high end battery. However, upon reading about a number of software issues that new Google updates have incurred AND some talk about defective units here on XDA forums (apparently, many have been having serious hardware issues out of the box) I have been made to think twice about purchasing this. I also began thinking that messaging (only using thumb like on a smartphone) in landscape would be a bit of a hassle for such a big screen and the portability might well be an issue.
LG Optimus G Pro, on the other hand, seems to sport the exact same screen quality but a smaller size instead. Do you believe this phone is an excellent alternate to the tablet and that the 5.5 inch screen isn't a BIG difference compared to new Nexus 7's display (considering the screen estate isn't exactly 7 inch with that really thick bezel)? Is the battery better and is the gaming performance and other performance related areas equally excellent in your honest opinion? Finally, do you feel that the build quality is such that makes the phone slip in the hand and that home button feels cheap (as some reviewers say so)? If there are any known issues that I should be aware of, kindly do let me know.
Just so that it's out there, I am looking for a device that is anywhere between 5 and 7 inches, has a FullHD display, excellent, lag-free performance, 2GB RAM and really long lasting battery. My primary use with the phone would be to check email, FB, Twitter, read e-books and occasional gaming. I did consider SONY Xperia Z but it seems to have washed out colours and the screen and battery timing is easily trumped by that of LG Optimus G Pro.
So then, enlighten me folks.
I got an amazing deal for my optimus g pro. Almost in new condition, got it for $300. N boy m loving it. Moved on from my galaxy nexus whose battery sucked. Really wanted a phone with a larger screen and a powerful battery. Best deal n the best phone I've owned.
Stock rom ain't bad, rooted n all the stuff i need just works.
2GB ram n the Snapdragon 600 makes multi tasking a breeze. Home button is fine and yea i don't think ill be using my nexus 7 as often as i used to. Go for it

Okay, so I'm debating on whether or not getting the G3. I need as many opinions as possible whether or not to get it. Please list your pros/cons along with your comment. Right now, I'm stuck with either the M8 or the G3.
My previous devices were:
Samsung: S2, S3, S4
HTC: Inspire, Wildfire S, EVO 3D
Sony: Xperia Z1 C6903
LG: Nexus 4 (current)
I really liked my Samsung's just cause of the AMOLED screen. I stripped TouchWiz most of the time and stuck with AOSP. I liked my HTC's cause Sense was actually pretty cool besides the heavy UI. I liked my Z1 cause it was waterproof. I love my Nexus, because, 1) Life's Gangster 2) straight Google 3) decent specs even today.
Cons: TouchWiz, is full of useless gimmicks. Sense, then, heavy UI. haven't used any other version since 4.1. Sony, odd but useful UI.
My girfriends brother just got the M8 and he said he loves it. Is only other (smart)phone was an S4. I'm not sure whether to get the G3 or the M8 though. He said that he used the G2 and he said it was **** without explanation. I was gonna get the M7 but since HTC took the SD card slot away, I'd have no use for my 64GB.
I love that the G3 comes with 3GB ram for the 32gb with expandable to 128GB. I kinda like the rear power/volume buttons. I love the lockscreen (using it on my N4). I love OIS and the Infrared depth sensor. The only things steering me away from it is the 5.5" screen and it not being waterproof. I'm not too worried about the waterproofing because hello, taking a shower with my Z1 wasn't anything exhilarating. I think 4.7" is a sweet spot for screens but I definitely got used to my S4's 5" other than having to reposition my hand to drop the notification shade down.
Please help me decide on what I should do. Sorry if this isn't in the right thread, I figured I'd put it here cause 1) I'm asking a question (2 about the G3.
Thank you.

Only you can decide.
No one can give you an absolute "yes" or "no".
You have already found two negatives FOR YOU in G3 - 1)screen is too big 2) not waterproof.
If you are in the US, you can buy it from your carrier, use it for 13 days and then decide whether you like it or not.

Yeah but opinions can help a lot. I mean the screen "seems" to be too big. It'll be different when I actually get the hold the device and see how it feels. For the waterproof thing, hopefully there will be a case that at least protects it from light rain or something. My N4 isn't waterproof and I'm okay with that. It was just a nice luxury when I had it noting I really need. There's always those companies out there that do it to an extent. Do you have the G3?

Lol. I'm using the Xperia Z Ultra! 6.4" of finger and Palm splitting. All other phones feel so small to me but I'm trying to find the sweet spot so I can go back down under 6". I'm getting the G3. Love LG designs and I miss owning the OGP. I think this phone will be the one for me until the Note 4 comes out, but if the Note 4 is knoxed up with locked bootloader on t-mobile then I'm sticking with the G3. Might even be my phone for more than 6 months!!!

@Maine_Coon same here. I was checking out my gfs brothers M8 and my thoughts are: Pros: its surprisingly thin, surprisingly lightweight, Sense seems a lot faster, boomsound is greatly improved and bassy, the pictures look amazing, the top where the IR blaster looks slick. Cons: I have to slide the phone down a bit in my Palm to reach the power button (I'm used to side power buttons). I don't like how they moved it to the right of the top of the phone. You have to strain your finger to press it. I don't like the placement of the headphone jack. Its not directly in the center of the bottom of the phone, it looks cut off. I don't like the recents panel.
So yeah, I'd rather take an OIS camera with an infrared laser rather than dual cameras. I have never witnessed an OIS camera before and I think it would be sweet. I think I'm steering towards the G3 more than anything. Let me know what you think of it if you get it before I do.
@Jammol 6.4" is massive! Honestly, my Z1 was too big for me and it even had a 5" screen. I loved my S4 once I stripped TouchWiz off of it, unlocked the Sim and bootloader. I only got rid of it because Samsung released that Knox ****. I mean I still rooted and flashed ROM's with it removed though. I just think Samsung is steering more toward unless gimmicks that they think people would use. Don't get me wrong, air view was pretty tight, but that's about it.

Sure will.
The only thing that bothers me is that some report "dim", or not enough brightness.
I almost always keep the brightness at 100%.
Have such a screen dull would be a shame.
Battery life is non-issue for me, I always have the spare. Unless it is not possible, as with G2 and Z Ultra
Everything else suits me perfectly.
Already sold my i6000 and G2, Z Ultra will follow if I will be happy with G3.

Are you talking about the G3's screen being too dim? If so, having a 1440p QHD screen you would think they'd have to limit something with it to conserve battery a little better. As what @Jammol said, if the G3 is actually worth it, I'll probably keep it until way past it's lifespan. The most I'd probably do to it is slap AOSP on it like I did with my S4 depending on how the UI is.

yes.
doesn't make sense to me to have a phone with dim screen.
my i6000 6.5" 1080p screen was brilliant.
as of AOSP, we need an unlocked bootloader and not just root.
hopefully this will be resolved.

With T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5/6, I doubt locked bootloader will stay for long. T-Mo is really trying to win more customers and I think if they allow unlocking of bootloaders, that would win a lot of people in my opinion. Hell look at Verizon, they may have the most advanced and fastest LTE, but I'd rather have a fully customizable phone than fast Internet, especially when I have Wi-Fi at home. But again, that might all change with Android 5.0

Think about the OnePlus One if you're ready for a 5.5" phone. Comes with CM from the factory, the most open and dev-friendly device atm. Only prob is availability and few reports of yellow tinted screen (sounds like the N4 a while back haha) and can't try before you buy. G3 is beautiful but hobbled by GPU thermals and too many pixels, prob locked bootloader, needs Windows to get it ready for custom roms.
Or if you need a G3 wait a month or two and it will have Snapdragon 805 to solve all the major issues.

Yeah the OnePlus One looks like an amazing device but I kinda like UI options. Hell, even when I had my S4 before I put AOSP on it, there were so many themed versions of TouchWiz. I never really witnessed a LG UI before and I'm interested to find out what it's like. I would definitely get it, but the whole "invites" thing is a huge dilemma. I'm waiting for Xaiomi to hit the US. Cheap, but beefy phones.

What do you consider outdated though? So should I get the G3 when T-Mo get it then? I read reviews about it on AndroidAuthority and AndroidCentral and they both said that even though it has a 5.5" screen, it handles like 5". They said the camera is good, infrared laser is fast, etc etc.

-too tall, with big bezels..taller than the g3
-oneplus devices tend to have a yellow tint on the screen
-CM takes too long to update their work

That doesn't make any sense. 2k/4k resolution is only needed on a much larger screen, while the 810 is slated for sometime in 2015. If you're willing to wait a year then this whole discussion is moot.
@CrashTestDroid you really think they'll come out with a G3 with an 805? I just want something beefy enough to play Modern Combat 5 when it comes out.

The only downside (if you dont like big phones) is the phone size itself. I find it hard to operate with one hand. Since its a phablet you'll probably use two hands most of the time.
I currently own an LG G3 Beta version and I can say that it is excellent. Battery life, screen, features are more than enough. I wish it was around the 5" spot but then again the beautiful QHD display makes up for it.

If it's just about that, stick with the z2, the camera of the g3 is pretty nice, but the one of the z2 is as well, they just have different strong and weak points there. Battery life is better on the z2, out of the box, i guess, because the qhd display at the g3 draws more juice, but, well, except if you are willing to swap batteries, than the point goes to the g3.
If you're happy with the z2, stick with it, if not, swap it, but be aware, it's not an upgrade, but a switch, both phones are decent and have their up and downsides.
I switched from the Z2 to the G3.
The camera works a lot faster, and shots sharper photos.
About the battery endurance, I can´t talk lot about, because my G3 is toooo new.
But actually it seems to be better.
The Display is blazing sharp and amazing!
No competition for the G3....

But maybe its a little bit squishy.....
My g3 holds nearly two and a half day.
My z2 max 2 days. so lg does something better with energy handling.
And I use exactly the same apps on both phones. nothing except the phones is different
Camera is slightly better on the z2, when it comes to battery you get 1 day + 4-5h SOT on the G3 while on the Z2 you get 1 day + 5-6.5h SOT, I'd say stay with the Z2
Did the switch and never regretted. g3 is so much better.
I gave up on the Z2. I was on my 4th phone (all with defects) and the IPS lcd screen was pretty poor IMO.
The G3 is a brilliant phone, albeit there is probably more lag than the Z2, but I forgive it because the screen is way better, and the cam takes instant pics which are way better in low light.
i switched from a Z2 and in my opinion both phones are super great!! however few things i didn't like about the Z2 was that feeling that ill drop it and break the glass on either side. This fear was always present in my mind when handling the phone.
On the brighter side, the battery of the Z2 was amazing hands down. I am not talking about the tests posted on various websites etc, this is only MY opinion. I am a heavy user and play a lot of games on the phone, constantly checking for messages, FB, pulse etc. The Z2 would last me easily a day with some juice left.
For the G3, the screen is superb and the size of the phone ratio to the screen is a plus. The phone doesnt feel cheap and in my opinion is less slippery than the Z2. In other advantages i think removable battery is always a plus IF you keep a spare on you. I have used the phone for 4 days now and i must say the battery didnt impress me. Its just OK nothing more ill add to that.
Both phones are good imo, if you want to have a future proof phone then i guess G3 is a safer bet specially the 855 with 32gb and 3GB ram keeps you at par with the current offerings.
Had a Z2, and could never eek out more than 5 hours of SOT. I can easily grind out 5.5-6 and over doing the same things on the G3. It's a pretty fantastic phone. I'm not quite sure, but I believe it still has GRAM that the G2 had, and that helps it with battery life.
I'm a super heavy user, and the Z2 just didn't cut it for me.

I have an AT&T D850. It's white (I'm not sure, but the white ones seem to have less problems. Just a conspiracy ?)
Had the Z2 and loved so many things on the phone which made the switch to the G3 difficult at first.
Z2
Pros:
Battery
Waterproof
Dedicated Camera Button
Cons:
Awkward to hold
All glass looks nice but drop the phone at your peril.
Awkward SIM Card Slot.
No replaceable battery
G3
Pros:
Screen oh that screen
Feels great to hold in the hand
Unique software configuration ~ Design your own button layout, other custom changes and Easy Home that actually works.
Brilliant Auto camera ~ Never thought I would be happy using an Auto setting.
Superb use of Quick Circle implementation.
Cons:
Camera software has no manual controls, you have to download and use additional software.
I'm sure I could find many other reasons to like both phones but whilst great tools are a winning factor it's how the device feels in the hand which will always be your first and last impression. Here the G3 wins absolutely hands down against the Z2.

I ended up ordering a Black one from Amazon and received a White one. With all the people having issues with shutdowns, overheating, etc. I just kept the White one since it's performing beautifully.
Z2 has issues with sound quality and voice quality. If you truly only care for the things you've listed then stick to the Z2. But things such as weight, voice quality, etc. may matter later on, so you'll never know.
I'm coming from a Z1. Quite possibly the most aesthetically pleasing phone but was paired with horrible software support and issues that could not be easily fixed because of rooting issues.

No point of switching from z2. It has everything good camera good battery only resolution and laser focusing is what g3 has over z2. Not a big deal

I ended up ordering a Black one from Amazon and received a White one. With all the people having issues with shutdowns, overheating, etc. I just kept the White one since it's performing beautifully.

Yes I ended up with the white one as well. I've never had any restarts or any problems out of the phone. Everything works great!

So I came from an s4 to a g3 as samsung was really bugging me then when I saw an s6 on eBay at 300 notes I thought why not. I must say I am very impressed overall. If you look at my history you will see I like trying as many new phones as possible because in my opinion a phone is something you use the most in your life and I like to know I own the best one don't judge me.
Curiosity got the better of me (yes I know what happened to the cat) and I got a black leather LG g3 on eBay for a good price.
Now having both phones right now and watching youtube phone reviews all the time ... pocket now, mkbhd, AA, EG and johnnnnnnn v from phone arena (annoying git) etc I expected that these phones would be similar in terms of competition but to me the LG G4 is just an ugly bigger g3 and still feels cheap even with leather and when I pick the s6 up it feels a lot more premium.
I really don't like samsung at all but have been forced to accept that the s6 is really good.
I maybe missing something in the g4 and really love the screen size but now the note 5 is out that feature is no longer a 1 up.
I would really love to hear everyone's opinion if they have owned both phones or swapped and the reasons.
Thanks
I haven't owned either phone but I've spent some time with both the S6+G3 in the past week (less tech savvy coworkers got them, had to show them the ins and outs)... I'm biased, but I'd take my G4 any day over those 2 (although, with that said, I didn't spend a whole lot of time with the G3 but from what I seen/experienced, it's pretty close to the G4. At this point, 2 full months of having it, I'm still glad I went with it.

Thanks. Recognise you from another thread back in the day of my s2 I think. Maybe. Or HTC one or another phone !
I Taking both today to a theme park to test the cameras. G4 is a little slower to focus and snap and in HDR photos it really lags behind THE s6.
I had both s6 edge and g4 red leather
Decided to stick with G4 better battery better manual mode on camera. Feels better in hand and im not so worried about it being all glass
Same for me....from s6 to g4.....i love this phone!!!And the battery is veeery good!!!!Guys one question....are you using the fast charger or the normal one??
Why did you guys change from s6 ?

I agree with the premium feel. Coming from a M7 I gotten many compliments for its metal body and classy look.
I just slapt a good looking case on it and called it a day. Since it lives in a case I don't have to think about the back being plastic
I had both the G4 and S6 Edge 128GB at the same time for about 6 weeks.
In the end I sold the G4, despite its amazing camera capabilities as the S6 Edge is orders of magnitude better in materials and style.
2 months later... I sold the Edge and have bought a G4.
I am a camera enthusiast and the use of 3rd party apps to enable RAW and poor interfaces compared made me come back. The G4 camera and its pro mode is just brilliant.

Thanks for all the great comments guys. I went to thorpe park and then chessington with my 4 year old (merlin passes) and used the s6 for both photos and videos. Really great results especially audio clarity on video and I think the s6 has better stability in ois (what do you guys think) . My son was playing angry birds whilst queuing and he dropped my s6 with the spigen air cusion case on and I thought it had broke !!! But I got lucky. I do think the g4 feels like it would not break at all at a child's drop. Pics attached from s6.
Tomorrow lego land !! With the g4.
I've owned every Verizon phone except the N5 and S6 Edge + (soon enough). The G4 fits my needs with a removable battery, as card slot, nice screen, great camera, and root. I only wish the bootloader was unlocked. I hate everything about Samsung since they took away the removable battery and sd card slot (and unlockable bootloader - N2).
I also have a unlocked M9 that I'll switch back to once CM is more polished. I liked the development on the G3 and M8 better than these current versions but I have to have the latest and greatest, lol.
Out of left field, the new Motorola Moto X Style Pure Edition will be the phone to beat in a month or so. And with a price tag of $400 off contract, XDA will have a field day with it. I'll be pre-ordering the day it becomes available.

So this is what I mean with the camera on auto. S6 on top G4 below. Any ideas why ? G3 also did this.
I realise the position is slightly different but it was only to hide the person in the bed then they went out the room
Admin please close thread.
The pink spot in the centre of low light photos was really annoying me !! No excuse for that. Reminds me of my old HTC one. Annoying.
I'm currently using Z3 Compact and I've been really satisfied.. but now the jack is not working and I'm tempted by all the good offers on the LG G4. I'm just wondering about a couple of things. Hope you peeps can answer some..
1. The size is my biggest issue... I'm afraid the LG G4 may be too big for me. I have quite small hands, but I would like a bit bigger phone than the Z3C. Do you guys think it would be too big for me?
2. Performance wise.. Will it be any upgrade?
Thanks
G4 has a large screen but feels very good in hand.

I just switched to a G4 from a Moto X 2013. I have to admit the size scared me at first, but I'm getting used to it...
It's sad that I can barely type a message with one hand anymore (I still don't feel 100% confident in terms of balancing the phone in one hand while typing), but all the other benefits make it worth the trade.
The screen is great for reading, media consumption and just beautiful overall, and oh - the camera! Also, Marshmallow!
I don't regret my switch.
But I wouldn't mind having a bit of a smaller phone as my next one.

Thanks.. It's the size im most afraid of, since I mostly use my Z3C with just one hand.. I rarely use it with two. If you were me and still had the Moto X, would you choose the G4 again, or buy a smaller one?

Honestly, it's also a matter of how good a deal you find. I got this G4 for a very nice price compared to how much other last year's flagships cost where I live, so the 5,5 inches is just something I can live with in exchange.
But I must admit I would prefer something around 5 inches. I would've gotten the S7 (non-edge, although the edge is beautiful) if I weren't too late for the preorder Gear VR bonus...
Didn't want to dish out so much for just the phone (over twice as much as the G4 cost me).
I had the S7 in hand and it feels perfect. ~5.1 inches is the sweet spot for my hands, it seems.
It also depends on what you're looking for in a phone... I really wanted a good camera and the G4 has one of the best.
Not sure about any other recent phones which are fairly compact and have a really good camera at the same time...
Well, there's the Galaxy S6, and you might ask why didn't I consider it - well, I didn't really fancy Samsung phones until the S7...
Although supposedly the S6 is much better with Marshmallow now... It's not a bad choice, I guess.
In the end, there's no short answer, since the size isn't the only factor here.
I think the G4 overall is such a nice device in every way... if you can get it at a good price, you won't regret it no matter if you end up typing messages in one hand or two...
Think about what you want the most in a phone and check whether the G4 has it and consider whether you're willing to live with the trade-off of having a bigger phone.

Only you can answer that. Are you a phone size phone type of person or not.. Why not hold one yourself.
Do take this seriously as the best phone in the world means nothing if you can't handle it comfortably. I opted for the G4 because the v10 would be too big. I did this be using a iphone 6 plus as a dummy (!) that blocky device was uncomfortable and the v10 was bigger still. My previous device had a 4.7" screen so jumping to 5.9" was a jump too far.

I'm wondering how demanding you are of battery. How much sot do you require over how long for standby.
What sot/runtime does the Z3c give you currently over data only, over wifi only.
For me I switched from Z3 .. You will get many upgrades and noticeably better performance but you will be disappointed about the battery life a lot especially from a Z3 compact user.. SOT is barely 4 h and 30 m over wifi only.. Standby nearly 20 h

Wow that is a jump. I don't know what specifically attracts you to the G4. I chose it mainly for the Camera and the fact that I can enable Qi charging, which I couldn't do with the Nexus 5X. At that time I didn't even know about LG's ridiculous unlocking policy. So if Camera an Qi are not that important to you, I'd stay the hell away from the G4 and get an N5X instead. Real cheap now, latest Android, fingerprint and even a bit smaller than the G4.
