Android port on Lumia devices? - Windows 10 Mobile

Yeah, the title says it all.
And no, I'm not here to rant about how this OS can't just manage some apps without glitching/crashing or that major apps are disappearing from the store (as if there were any) , I just want to know if an android port is available for Lumia devices (mine is a 640) even if it's just an alpha or a very basic thing.
I didn't create this thread to see people commeting "Why don't you buy an android phone then? There are cheap ones that run better than that!" "People asked this question already!!!" "It's impossibile. But I have no source to say that for sure"
I know that already and right now I can't really afford a new phone. Also, I wouldn't buy a cheap-ass android phone because that would mean jumping from one Hell to another.
Yes, I could wait but the situation has become unbearable so I'm asking here of all places.
What happened to that video showing 5.0 on Lumia 830? Was it a fake? People in the comments seem so clueless...
What about project Astoria being removed? And that news about unlocked bootloaders?
PS:
I'm not asking anyone to do anything here, I'm just asking if there's a chance that what I demanded for is already online somewhere... news about wp hacking are very difficult to find so I may have lost some important news.
Also, I'm not into phone-developement-stuff but one thing for sure that I know is that this whole porting process is very difficult.

look, is not fake, but is not possible and no any real or usable public port. running android on WP/WM device is one thing, but usable android OS on WP/WM device have thousand (unsolved) problems.

Yeah but, is that video just a few seconds light of hope and then total void?
I mean, how come such a "discovery" was left behind even in this period where WP devices are sinking so bad?

Check this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/general/android-6-0-1-cm13-lumia-525-t3442630
The port is far from stable!

[Q] WP7 as dualboot on HD2

Hi,
A few days ago I started to follow the development of WP7 port for HD2. So I want to know whether there is a working WP7 build for the HD2?!
The next important thing I want to know if there is a working ROM:
Is it possible to run WP7 and WM6.5 parallel with dual boot? The best thing would be if it's possible to run WP7 from storage card without flashing it to ROM-Storrage. Or maybe like Gen.Y DualBOOT solution with WP7 instead of Android. I want to do this for testing WP7 in my company. We have some things to be tested on WP7 and don't want to buy new devices. Most important thing because we can not change completely to WP7 is, that we need the functionality of WM6.5 for our software. So maybe what I need is still possible?
Greez zyclop
Seriously ?
If you started to follow the progress or actually read ANY of the topics you would be aware of the fact that there is NO working build out there.
If you actually would have done anything besides finding out WP7 existed you would be aware of the fact that progress has been slow and painstakingly hard.
So in short dont state you cant find any info just actually search
Good to know, that there isn't a working build yet.
Users in some other boards wrote, that there is an early build with limited functionality. But this might be not the truth. I think xda-developers are more believable.
I think I should wait a while, because the first WP7 devices aren't released long time ago. Hacking the OS might be much easier while having devices running WP7.
Maybe someone write here, if there is a working HD2 build of WP7, that would be very great
Greez zyclop
Your company wants to test WP7 but wants to do it on a hacked phone? Too cheap to buy 1 device for testing? Sounds like a recipe for success!!

To add, even IF there's a working port, not all the functions will work properly, if at all... Just buy a WP7 phone if you're that interested in it. Of course if you have been "looking into it", you'd already know this.

Porting Android to Wave (Replace Bada)

Has anyone tried it yet, what was the outcome?
Is it possible?
Please share your ideas, views and suggestions here.
I think i read somewhere about it, but the project is not continue, unfortunatelly :/
search, maybe you'll find something
Hey Abhishek...
Why do you need to create another thread...??
There are two ongoing threads on the same topic... And if you are interested please head on to those to find out the info about porting android on bada..
Dont create unnecessary threads.... I suggest delete this... or after sometime all we will see in the Bada Section is useless threads....
*facepalm*
Read other topics WWW.ANDROIDPORT.NEt there is the wavedroid project.
Go away and come back when you have some progress for us wavedroid.
Still wondering if wavedroid is a money making exercise or a genuine attempt at getting Android over. The delays don't help the impression this is an exercise being led by folks more eager than actually having the skills to accomplish the task.
I'll be the first to eat my hat if this ever comes to fruition, but I won't be donating anything to something that at this point seems to have only updates on various delays.
Hows this for an interesting post on the JetDroid website...
Not sure why you need the expensive software, it is nice and would help but 95% of the works is already completed for you guys.
To start:
Look for phones with same hardware then use that parts from their android and put the parts into a custom version. You can reuse the /sbin and /system folders from the android sdk virtual machine or if you want better performance use the /sbin and /system of a similar hardware phone android version and just add your init , init.rc , zimage and package this into a rom or dual boot like we do.
CPU:
The wave / Samsung-Intrinsity S5PC110 cpu is much more supported than our s3c6410 and used even by Apple so look at idroid , samsung crespo , HTC 4G android , samsung i9000 for sources for your android files to start from.
Screen:
The screen is possibly the same as S8000 or Spica, wave 3.3" the rest is in other samsung opensource files you just need to mix and match parts.
Obstacles:
The biggest problem might be the cpu and screen + andreno or powervx or Mali display driver but android.so will work until you get to the video driver.
Camera:
Camera is in M910 samsung opensource files / other 5MP camera, there is only a few 5MP camera from that samsung uses so might need to work on the code if you can not find it from a same camera android phone version that is already working.
Now make a good WaveDroid version:
Once you have all this and have it working then you can build a clean custom version of android optmized for your phone. CM for HTC 4G phones might work with almost no or little changes possibly just in the kernel.
The samsung opensource website has the SCH-W850 / SPH-W8500 / SPH-W8550 , this could share some hardware with Samsung Wave as well, similar number codes. Look for a recent code release nov/dec 2010 or later.

After reading that, I felt I could almost make an android port myself lol. Clearly there are some very knowledgeable and experienced persons out there.
What really bugs me is the Wavedroid folks have been asking for money for months, yet have shown not a shred of proof they have accomplished anything. Secondly, folks have been asking (rightfully so), why you have not implemented a Paypal widget so people can see just how much money you have raised so far. I know you are using illegal software and thus don't want to let everyone into your inner circle to see the progress, but you have shown and proved absolutely nothing. There are more doubts than positive feelings at the moment.
Please don't let this thread grow to one of two-three pages which is worth nothing, there is already another one just for this purpose
Android port is stuck because programmers dont have any programm to edit the bootloader of wave,so they can not do the port...
If anyone knows any free programm to edit ARM 7 files (like IDA 5.7) please give it to them.
But if nobody knows any programm for this case the have to wait until they have enough money form donations to buy the IDA 5.7
(sorry for my english)
This is outrageous, the fact that you need commercial tools to do what your looking to do clearly denotes your level of incompetence. Look at idroid. i didnt see them asking people for money to buy tools?? And i would say that Apple did a much better job locking down the i range then samsung did with the Wave. If you have stumbled at the starting block just forfeit the race.
Prove to us that you know what the f**k your doing and then you can have your donations.
Generally i supported this project, but then you asked for money. Money changes everything.

I agree with U
Asking for money, without providing any scrap of proof that anything is even going on, is what irks people here. Not even a simply paypal donation widget exists so folks can see what the $ count is too.
Too many red flags on this one. I know I'm not the first to ask for proof, or even just something other than "we are working it, it'll be done soooooon, give us all your moneys roflwtflolbbq"
So many other android ports happened without need for this software. And also may I point out what seems total ineptitude on the wavedroid team's part. The Galaxy S contains pretty much the identical hardware as the Wave does. In fact you find me a phone that has identical hardware, one running android, the other something else, and tell me we already have as near an android phone as you're going to get. Compared to other port projects, this should have been done in a weekend to be honest.
wavedroid are bogus, and will accomplish nothing just like all the so called Android to Wave projects and groups previously.
I agree with sabian. I don't know a **** about how difficult or easy is this, but i'm pretty sure that there are good developers around here. Why couldn't you start a new project?
I aggre with you guys,it is very odd that they ask for money without doing anythink...
I just posted that if you know any free software that works with ARM7 files it would be good to inform then...
But they have a very good reason to ask for money because if they can not edit the bootloader they can not load anythink else from bada...if they do that the project it would be almost done because wave and galaxy s have similar hardware so with some fixes to scripts they will have a very good androidport to wave..

Android Pleasee!!

Anyone know if someone is trying to run android on a phone windows 7 (samsung or hd7 Hdt.)
Please would be ideal, Windows Phone has almost no apps, no flash player and also of other faults.
Please I'm a volunteer to test on my phone.
Someone who has the courage to modify.
why? Man, there is an android device on every single carrier at almost all prices. I can understand iOS on android (even though thats not possible)...but there are just so many android devices. I'm sorry, but for this one, I'm just gonna have to say "if you want android, but an android device."
And if you put it in perspective, android on these phones will just be like its android counterpart. A samsung WP7 should perform like the galaxy s phone and an htc device should perform like the Evo or N1. Performance is not that great when compared to WP7 so you'd probably hop right back on WP7. A port wouldnt be as smooth as the original (at first) so it'd be like a double whammy.
stop trolling and buy a fu**in crappy android phone !
Why the hell did you even buy WP7 ??
I'm not sure if you're just trolling or remarkably stupid but either way you're wasting your time.
Please I am not offending anybody to start and secondly then if there is celphones in each company and is not necessary because I modified the HD2 .

I can't tell what you are trying to say here so I'm not even going to try and understand it. If you want android get an ANDROID PHONE. For Christ's sake why would you put Android on a WP7 device when the HTC Thunderbolt, Atrix 4G, Inspire 4G, etc just came out? Why not buy one of those?

Here is a proper response:
Which phone do you own? You said HTC HD7 or Samsung.
If you do not own either you are better off buying an HTC Desire HD. It is nearly identical with slightly better hardware and actually is made with Android on it.
If you have a near mint condition Samsung Omnia 7 send me a PM if you want to sell it.

While I'm sure people take your question as trolling, I think it's a semi-legitimate thing to ask on xda. The short answer to your question is no. It's not worth the time and effort to try and port Android to these devices. Android is available on virtually every carrier in some form, and most of them have higher-spec devices available. It would simpler to go buy one of those if you want Android.

[Q] Replacing Android

So, I've been looking around pretty hard recently and I have yet to see an answer on this that either applies to my phone or is not out of date.
My question is: Is a dev willing to attempt to replace android with Windows Mobile (6.1-6.5) or Windows Phone? Or is this not possible? ( Had seen previous answers stating we needed an unlocked bootloader for this to be an option...which we now have.)
Now some of you may be asking why the hell I'm wanting to replace the OS, and that comes down to the new privacy policy of Google's services and that there are no WM devices w/in the past two years that have a physical keyboard which use the 1700 MHz band for data.
Thanks so much for the help.

It is very hard to port a different OS. Possible, but very hard.
But as for the privacy policy, you understand that it basically makes Google have the SAME policy as Microsoft and Apple right? And you can opt out of many of the changes?
The media got that story and turned it into something it wasn't. Google can use your data to improve your experience in its other services. Just like Microsoft says it does.....only difference is they hide it in a wall of text, Google came out and told you.
Also, think that Windows Mobile/Windows Phone are closed-source OSes, while Android is Open Source. Even though, look how hard it is to port Ice Cream Sandwich to our device - an Android OS.
Porting another system with no drivers or access to source code would be next to impossible.
This has been asked a bunch and always answered with either no it can't work or why would you want to.
Don't think its possible
And its not that ics is super hard to port..its the fact that it hasn't been released for more than a couple devices. As soon as htc releases the official dhd ics things should go a lot smoother
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Nospin, I do know that the policy is basically the same for Google as it is for Microsoft or Apple. And i really do like that they came out and said it as opposed to the EULAs of the others. I am also aware I can opt out of Google's services by not signing in on my desktop, but not on Android. I am required to be logged in to use things on the device like the market. Even for free apps, I have to be signed in to download them. Then, most of them also only provide downloads via the market, so I can't go to their site and buy them or get them (or updates.)
I am well aware it is difficult to port a different OS to a device, but I also know it's not impossible (just next to it.) I also know the question had been asked multiple times. I found 4 different threads under 4 different devices. All of them had different answers. Either "we need an unlocked bootloader", "yes it can be done", or "not possible." Were the answers. With each of the threads being years old I figured asking was the easiest way to get an updated answer.
If open source is the issue, how about loading memo 5, or even a full on version of Linux (vnc solutions don't count.)
I appreciate the responses so far, but I'd also like to hear from a dev on the subject if possible.
HTC HD2 is multiplatform (android,WM 6.5, WP7, ubuntu, meego) but doesn't have keyboard (only bluetooth)
Oh god, the mention of WM 6.X on our device made me throw up in my mouth a little. So obsolete, laggy and unstable. I don't know why you would go anywhere near that garbage.
Porting WM or WP, not "impossible" per se. But so much would have to be built from scratch. No hardware drivers for WP to work on our device, so they would have to be written from scratch. It would be a huge effort, and the fact that WP is closed source, makes it all the more difficult. "Impossible", technically no. But hundreds, probably thousands of hours worth of work. Nobody is really interested in putting that much effort into such a project. And for the reason that you just don't like Google's privacy policy? Sorry, not going to happen.

Revive Android Port to Lumia 710 cash reward

It pains me to see this wonderful project die out so quickly. I feel as if there is a way but the motivation to find is close to zero. I have taken it upon myself to call all lumia and windows experts to revive this project as it will lead to many great things in the future. I am offering $200 to each developer who is willing to make android a reality on lumia devices. I have researched the little progress we have made and feel that the n9 is very similar to our device. This means we can change and use there ports to our advantage.
Please I'm calling all devs to help in this task!

Let me ask you one simple thing: Why?
Why do you want to have Android running on a Lumia WP7 device? If you want Android, than simply by an Android phone. Or go and by a Nokia N9 and Install Andoid JellyBean Alpha 5 (i think this is the latest release).
I have Android running on my Nokia N9, and it's nice, and respekt to the developers, but it's not stable, not everything is working and maybe it will be like on the N900, stuck in alpha or beta state, because of issues no one could see in the beginning...
N9 has 1GB RAM, Lumia800 has only half of that... Do you really think Android is running smooth on a Device less than 1GB RAM?
I don't.
Another thing i thought about:
Android can only run on Nokia N9 with dual boot. I don't think we have the way to install dual boot on any WP7 devices. Even though we have full unlock now (respekt to ultrashot at this point!!! )...
Another thing: The Hardware of Lumia phones is great for WP7. But only for WP7. For every other system, it's way too weak.
I wish it wasn't so. If there is anyone out there who can help I'm waiting. I really like android but I can't find the n9 anywhere where I live and it's price is way to high.
Seriously, better spend your 200$ into an Android device, there are enough out there that will suit your needs. It doesn't make sense to spend 200 bucks for a port/OS that isn't designed for the Lumia. Also 512MB RAM is maybe really too low for current Android versions.
I agree... Take your Lumia, sell it, use the money with your $200 to buy the Android phone you want and stop Trolling the Windows Phone threads... It's not possable right now on ANY WP7/WP7.5 device.
And no, I dont think any one is doing it nor cares to...

Unless you are a developer who would do it, I don't see how this $200/developer offer really is sane? Ok, I undersand as a hobby and to learn and develop this is fantastic. BUT it is as good as "port Jelly Bean on iPhone 5 please!" - unrealistic.
If I had as much money as the OP, trust me, I would own an iPhone 5 and pre-order the Lumia 920 and HTC 8X and then get the new Nexus!

Last time I checked this was xda DEVELOPERS. Porting an OS into a device with a completely different arrangement is how innovation is fostered. The whole Open WebOS project is based on that philosophy. Porting Android on the HP TouchPad, the HTC HD2 and others would never have happened if someone didn't first get a wild hair up his a$$. I encourage this idea no matter how crazy it sounds. You never know what you may discover while you're on that path.
Thanks guys for the support and I enjoy the criticism. I just think this phone has potential I didn't mean to anger anybody. I though this forum was for devs who make magic happen on phones that's why I posted this thread. Anyways the lk bootloader is already been installed on this device and fastboot is operational. The only thing in the way is something to do with LCD drivers so it's not a fantasy its close to realistic. Search it on google for yourself. There is github set for this device with the files and installing bootloader is as easy as copying and pasting the bootloader into a certain folder.
I am agreeance with everyone else if you have $200 to burn, buy an Android device

Yes this is XdaDEVELOPERS, but the real point here is that the OP wants Android to he's device and is now offering $200 for the port. Ok, it is not because he wants to do it just for the fun, he wants Android. At the same time he says he doesnt have money to buy N9. Now spending $200 for this just doesnt make sense. IF with a ****load of work people would succeed on this, most likely it would be very buggy and missing functionality, at least for a very long time. It is only right that people tell the OP that he is way better off on just buying an Android device than thinking about porting.
I would see this differently if the OP would be here saying look guys, I have ****load of money and I offer $xxx if someone can port Android to Lumia just for the fun of it and see if its possible. In this case of course, this is XdaDEVELOPERS and I wouldnt even comment, just be following can someone really do it.
I also assume that $200 + selling the Lumia would enable the OP to buy a GOOD Android device. Most importantly everything would be working...
EDIT: With quick search I see NEW 16GB SGS II:s for 350€ at eBay.de... Dont know if thats the cheapest, or SGSII best bang for the buck at Android, but Im sure you couldnt go wrong with that if you want that OS.
Here in Italy you can get a Galaxy Nexus for 279€ in some malls.

Huh? Buggy and missing functionality is the title of most unofficial Android builds yet people flock to them. A buzz is created and more often than not, bug fixes start cropping up. I'll give you a perfect example. My old Droid Pro had an unofficial CM build for it, but it was based on the Droid 2. My present Droid X has a ton of unofficial builds but none of them work properly. I like the ICS theme a lot but I need my phone to function properly.
It's very easy to just say "buy and Android device and save the $200" then tell that same person to flash a buggy, incomplete ROM and look to the community for help. Obviously the OP prefers Nokia products, and deservedly so, and doesn't want a plasticky Samsung or anything from HTC.
I do not wish to purchase a new android device as I'm under contract as well as I do not feel like going through the hassle of selling my phone (not very popular in USA anymore). And I wanted this port for fun my life didn't depend on getting this port or something. I just feel that we are very close to getting android and trying just a little harder might get it for us. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who wants this port. There are others out there as well who do not have the money to buy an android phone. As you guys said I could easily buy an android phone but I want this for the community not just me.
By the way 275 euros is 400 dollars and 325 euros is like 500 dollars
Everyone who says that "if you have money to offer for devs to try porting android to your wp7, why not try to buy android phone if you want it" is right. But for me, running a different OS on a device/mobile made with specific OS is very cool :fingers-crossed:

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who wants this port. There are others out there as well who do not have the money to buy an android phone. As you guys said I could easily buy an android phone but I want this for the community not just me.

You're right. Everyone who are against your idea are just being practical. I don't disagree with them because they are right but i got this unexplained feeling on porting different OS in a specific device/mobile. I do have HD7 and I also want it to be able to run in android OS. It's really cool if it can be done by devs.
I seriously doubt that if Android is succesfully ported to Lumia everything would work... Wlan, bluetooth etc etc... Im sure it would take a lot of time to get it running fully, if ever. Also as brought up here earlier the fact that the 710 has 512mb of ram is going to be an issue with the latest Android builds.
I hope you get the port, dont let me spoil your day.
BTW, 275€=$359 today. And if you are in the States Im sure you can find Android phones even cheaper than I suggested. I think I saw something like 330 bucks for SGSII.

Everyone who says that "if you have money to offer for devs to try porting android to your wp7, why not try to buy android phone if you want it" is right. But for me, running a different OS on a device/mobile made with specific OS is very cool :fingers-crossed:

It stands to reason there is a chance. If the HD2, which started life as a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, could be ported with Android AND Windows Phone 7, I don't see why the Lumia 710 couldn't be "Frankensteined" as well. For those of us who are webOS fans, you know what I mean.
Practicality has its merits but there are some of us who like to do the improbable just for sh!ts and giggles. Personally, I shoe-horned a twin-turbo Buick V-6 in a Vega some 30 years ago and followed that with a 351-powered Pinto. The phone analogy is that neither one could be driven in the rain because there was simply no sticky tires back then, so the functionality was very limited.
