Which Features would you wish for the Note 8? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Rumors say that the Note 8 will be renamed as the "S8 Plus". Well whatever its name, there were features missing from the Note 7 which I sure would like to see on the Note 8.
Features like:
- Dual Speakers. (For stereo speaker output when watching movies. That would be nice. Way better than a useless Iris Scanner imo using space and resources for nothing).
- 4K Display. (2k VR is cool but the screen door effect, not so cool. I always thought that 4K VR is that sweet spot between accessible VR and meaningful VR).
- 3D Camera. (Maybe something between the new dual lens technology and 3D stereoscopic technology. A camera that would allow to shoot at least 180 3d 4k videos). (They could even replace the iris scanner with a 2nd front Camera to go all 360 degrees.).
That's my list. How about you dudes?
Any ideas except Removable Battery?

most wanted feature: NO RECALL

a flat screen.

I would have to add revert back to Corning gorilla glass 4 as the 5, though more drop resistant, was softer thus more prone to marks.
Again I would agree with a flat screen but only because its bloomin impossible to purchase screen savers that work.
Stereo speakers would be a nice touch but useless in any device this size, a better DAC would be great.
Other than that..........It was simply superb. In all sincerity I do hope Samsung introduce a replacement sooner rather than later, as for the name I don't care.

That's been debunked... Gg5 is just as scratch resistant as 4 and more shatterproof. The tests were done with contaminated moh tools.

The whole audio experience could use a refresh. Better quality speaker and a more robust DAC would go a long way into fleshing out everything else I loved about my Note7.
4k screen would be fantastic as well.
They could kill the physical home button and put a fingerprint scanner on the back to make the screen bezel even smaller. The on-screen buttons in Nougat would allow for that easily. That's a matter of preference though as I have never once registered my fingerprint or iris scan on any phones so it's rather useless, in my opinion, to reduce screen real estate to house a legacy button because of a fingerprint scanner. Imagine an even smaller bezel with a 4k resolution 6" screen instead of the 5.7" quad screen. I'm down for that.

Bigger/better ram management.
Don't make the screen smaller!!
Waterproof
Blue Coral!

a bit smaller DIAGONAL size, and no recall, nothing more.

There will be no note 8....

now why would you want 12 cores?

Get rid of the entire glass body, most retarded decision ever. Metal body instead.
Removable battery would be nice to have again. Specifically for the ability to use larger capacity batteries.
I just want a stylus again I miss my note 3, would have gotten the 7 had this fiasco not happened.

Flat screen. 5.8

Removable battery and bigger battery (4000 mah).
NON glass back. Plastic is fine, glass breaks much more easily plus 99% of us use a case anyway.
Flat screen, but still almost zero bezels on the sides still.
Dual speakers, preferably on the back instead of the bottom.
Bring back the IR blaster.
All this is assuming that the main features of the N7 are kept: IP68, physical home button, S Pen, SD card slot, etc.

The one feature i sincerely ask for is the IR blaster. I still have my note 3 and i use this feature so much. Everything. Air conditioners tv set top etc. Moving to a phone without one removes so much convenience and additional usefulness of the phone.

I loved the iris scanner. Great when you have wet or dirty hands

What he said.
Keep the home button a physical button on the front.
Could loose the ir blaster tho, I never used it.
I do not like the edge screens which is one of the main reasons why I don't want the s7 edge.

removable battery with ip68 ratings , speakers doesnt matter unless they can fit two 40 mm inside lol , full edge experience , still prefer the glass concept , shiny and sleek , some might not agreed but the edge is one of the main selling point as no other brands has it .

I'll be over the moon so long as they keep all the features in the Note 7. I *love* the iris scanner, for example, and would hate to see that go.
If they want to add anything, it would be a 4k screen for me. 2k only gives you something like standard def for VR. A higher pixel density would be a huge boost for VR.

Well it doesn't have one, so that's hardly surprising.

surprised at people wanting rid of the glass back, it is actually a really good feature, it's not only more resistant than plastic, it is also better than metal as it doesn't block things like the NFC and radio antennas. it's why every metal phone has to have lines in the metal to put the aerials in then you have the like of apple who have had to use a different material for the apple logo to allow the NFC chip to transmit through the back of the phone, or the likes of Sony who have moved it to the front of the phone making it a pain if you are using anything NFC and want to see the screen. so really the glass back adds a lot of functionality, it's the same reason the pixel has went 1/3 glass on the back to help with transmission.

What are you looking for in the Note 3?

The Note 3 is my current target phone. The Note 2 is the best phone I've ever owned but nothing is perfect and these are the improvements I would like to see.
1. Screen. HD and is needs to be more responsive and have a better refresh rate. The screen is the weakest part of the Note 2. I also would like to have a more square aspect ratio like the N1
2. I actually can't thing of anything else. What say you?

I think an improvement in the speakers volume is needed. I feel weak showing my peasant iphone friends videos. Overall build quality too, except keep the removable back for battery and sd slot. Like you said, the screen needs improvement but I really like the colors of it- I think the screen is great, but I came from a blackberry 8520 hah. I really like the camera in low light situations though.

+1 for improved speakers and keeping the removable battery & SD card slot.
I also really want a dedicated camera button.

Bigger screen 1080p or more, smaller device than the GNII. Samsung already made that with the GS3 to GS4 so they should be able to do that with GNIII
Improve input lag
2-3gb Ram DDR3
Glove sensitive
13-16mp camera
Android 5.0 with redesign TouchWiz
More useful features with SPen
Aluminum frame with plastic back so we can have access to the battery and extsd
Bigger Battery, 3500 or more
1. 3 LED lights one for default another for front camera and 3rd one for the flashlight ( S bigb one for the flashlight about an inch)
2.More Pixels ditto what u said in 1st point.
3.Huge screen 5.9 - 6.3 inch screen.

1) IR Blaster
2) Better Resolution (even though its great now!)
3) Better built with a removable back cover
4) Bigger battery
5) Better quality LED notification light - The one now can't produce colors other than R,G & B effectively.
6) Bigger S-Pen and added features.
7) A 13 MP back camera, only if the sensor size is increased (don't want too noisy photos!)
Do not want a N1 aspect ratio. N2 is very ergonomic to hold because of 16:9 aspect
3 gb ram
2ghz octa core exenos 5
Full hd screen
Same size
Better build
5000 mah battery
Better speaker

A Must Have
1. Better and sharper resolution
2. Screen size is already great with Note 2
3. Octa Core 2Ghz
4. 4GB RAM
5. IR
6. More software + hardware integration
Nice To Have
1. Flexible Screen
2. Indestructible body which can take an extreme impact+pressure and water proof
3. Border-less Screen
4. More AI and better hardware which can control/integrate with almost any electronic stuffs
I would also like dual speakers and the ability to move game data to sd card.
And please not another mhl adaptor!

1-Larger screen not smaller than 5.9" in the same body size as Note II but thinner and lighter.
2-Higher resolution and brightness.
3-Bigger battery.
4-Better and louder sound for both earphone and external Speakers.
5-Higher quality Camera.
6-Faster Processor with larger RAM (not totaly setisfied with the wakeup speed)
7-Better and lighter software e.g:better Internet browser with exit button ,sticky UA etc and less bloatware installed with an option to add them from SamsungApps each on his/her own.
8-The ability to see (read?)the Notifications from the switched off black screen.
8-Trade in option starting from day one of its introduction!!.
1- No SDS
2- Can actually read a memory card without frying it
3- No Yellow Tint on the Screen
4- can be put on a coffee table without getting scratched
5- Does not require you to void your warranty to change minor system sounds
Front speakers.
Complete redesign of Touchwiz. Keep the options, but ditch the UI completely.
Looks like most things have been already covered here...lol. That being said I think the 2 things I would like to see most is a larger screen with full HD and higher PPI and dual front facing speakers!
get rid of the home button and make it touch not push button
or make it into a touch pad for a cursor with double click option
overall my Note2 is almost perfect for what I use it for, so my list is mostly wishful thinking, but also trying to be realistic about what's possible.
** Screen
I would like better daylight visibility. I am not sure how this would be possible without making the screen slightly matte?
I've never looked at my Note2 screen at a reasonable viewing distance and thought "this screen needs more pixels". I am more than happy with 720p, and 1080p would simply burden the graphics chip requiring more processor power and thus use more battery.
I definitely don't want the device to be any bigger, and a thinner bezel would actually make the device less practical, so stick with the same size display please.
** Digitizer
I would like the pen digitizer to extend to the buttons below the screen, so I don't have to use a finger but can carry on using the pen.
I would like the S pen to be a little longer. Or telescopic.
** Speakers
I would like stereo speakers. Long ago I had a Nokia N800 internet tablet (amusingly people thought it was HUGE at the time, now with its 4.1" screen that'd be funny!), and it had really good forward facing stereo speakers, and its built-in kick stand was great so you could use it as music player.

** IR blaster

** stereo microphones
why not? good video deserves good sound.
** 802.11ac wifi
it's in the Gal S4, so this is almost certain.
** better back cover
a back cover that doesn't feel like you're going to break the catches when removing it and changing the battery. yes, I do this. yes, I play Ingress, there's a connection
** wireless HDMI or miracast
but I still want MHL. and don't change it yet again, the S3/Note2 MHL should remain compatible.
** USB 3
I still want to push and pull files to and from it. Or connect my DSLR to it and grab images, crop and scale them and email them.
** FM radio
I didn't realise the N7105 didn't have an FM radio. I am still not sure whether I regret spending extra on the N7105 for future proofing (no LTE for me in the UK as yet), instead of saving my money and getting the N7100 with a radio! OTOH, I expect my Note2 to last me at least till early 2014, so hopefully the LTE will get used!!
** camera/flash
the camera is pretty good, but a better flash would be nice

Note 3 Vs the Note 4 - Design, Features and Speed Test

Covered Design, Features, What was removed as well as added and a Speed Test. Is it worth the jump from the Note 3 to the Note 4?
After using the Note 3 as my main device for a year then getting the Note 4, I like to say that there is a difference and it feels refreshed. With the 1440p Display, New Touch Wiz Ui, and a few new features. Now I did notice that there are somethings missing from the Note 4 that the Note 3 had. There are also something that have been moved and changed, like the Pen Window feature is now used with the Multi-Window feature on the Note 4. Spec wise there is not a massive push but its still a beast of a phone. Watch the Full comparison below and let me know what you think. Is it worth the jump from the Note 3 to the Note 4?
Surprisingly no mention of 2x2 MIMO capability on the WiFi, which I don't recall the note 3 having, but admittedly I do not know for sure as I came from an SIII and have never actually owned the note 3.

My thoughts on this are
Note 3 - Good: size, speed until the end lol. battery life was good too
- Bad: poor wifi (random drops, very weak signal) LTE would just vanish, very poor camera lag would always miss "the shot", drop calls all the time,
Note 4 - REALY great wifi signal all over the house, no random drops, lte is always avail now! yay! AWESOME camera! never miss a shot!
Silly fake metal sides, tho they do look good, I don't want to put a case on it that will hide that. I really like the multi sensor by the flash, (Pulse/ox/uv) finger print scanner is a little tricky still one of those gimmicks i think.
There is one thing that has really made me upset about moving to the new note 4, I used to use my note 3 as a GPS with Waze, and run xiia to listen to internet radio while driving to work. I was able to do this using my IBolt ProDock. and run the audio out one cable connected to the usb port. I can no longer do this I have to have an extra cable connected to the head phone jack to get the audio out which clutters up the dash.
Thanks sammy for fugging that part up.

It's not a metal chassis but it is a thin metal band. Samsung sticks with a majority of polycarbonate for a reason, it's stronger and better for phones. It has give that metal does not have. Samsung did a great combination here to give the phone a feeling people so ignorantly want. The grade of plastic they use is not cheap and is truly premium but the average consumer unfortunately doesn't know any better :/
Just look at how other phones show wear and tear after just a few short months because of an all metal body. My galaxy s4 though still looks almost brand new out of the box a year and a half later. That in itself proves the worthiness of polycarbonate. Samsung KNOWS what they are doing.
Again you clearly didn't look. It's white plastic where the supposed "metal band" is.
If you take a close look at it it's painted plastic. If it is metal then it's super thin.

I like what Samsung has done to put the thin metal band around to give it a premium look & feel, while keeping the phone weight low by using durable plastic chassis and a cover that allows battery and memory card slot access. Bravo! Aluminum material is over-rated. GN4 is much much stronger and more durable than the unreasonably expensive iPhone 6 Plus by a large margin.
Dont get me wrong. I like the device. Just wish native support for audio out of the usb was there. I have a usb audi interface coming on monday to find out if that will work.

I just spent eight hours setting up my Note 4 the way my Note 3 was set up. I have 150 apps so it's a pain in the ass including signing in to them all and initializing them. Add to that every time you connect a Gear to a new device it blows away its configuration so it needs to be completely rebuilt too.
Some observations:
So the former menu button was supposed to be Android blasphemy. So now instead of having one hard key to universally access menus across the device you get to play "find the settings" across apps and the UI. After just going through setting up 100+ apps it's amazing how many different places menus can be placed, how many different settings indicator icons devs can unleash, how different the contents are, and how little app developers really care about UX. Google's UI flexibility sucks if what I described can exist and making it all "flatter" in 5.0 ain't going to help. Samsung had it right in the first place.
This is a nifty new tool that offers a soft key replacement for the old hard key menu button. Now that phablets are gaining in popularity you'd think app devs would realize it's a 6" stretch to reach the upper left of the display. It's impossible one handed. Samsung's still got some cleverness left in them.
There's a huge performance difference between the 3<>4. Everything's more fluid, installing apps is about three times as fast, scrolling is lag free, apps open faster, and in-app performance is faster (EG: all aspects of stock browser performance). And whether it's s/w optimization or brute force power via S-805 it's all very noticeable.
The Note 4 is fantastic battery wise. It charges unbelievably fast; even using a standard charger. It's blazingly fast with the high output charger. It also sips battery compared to the N3. As an example I was configuring my Note 4 using SideSync via my N10.1-14. The Note 4 actually went from 65% to 100% while on my battery booster while it was active for three hours. You could watch the Note 3's battery drop under the same circumstances. I have a ton of apps and syncs running in the background so I'm an extreme use case. I'd guess for my usage the Note 4's at least 25% better on battery use than my Note 3 configured exactly the same way.
I abhor change for change sake. That's what Samsung did with a lot of their stock apps and UI elements. All the photo-related apps for example. They do exactly the same things their predecessors did but everything's been rearranged for no particular reason. Stuffs been stripped out too. Driving mode which read messages aloud when the phone was in the car is gone. So is cloud and FTP integration in My Files. There's a lot of head scratching feature changes (adds and deletes) along with some questionable usability choices.
For those with a Gear all the wonkiness with Gear Manager is finally gone. The Note 4 and Gear play very well together. But the Note 4's device ID is screwed up in the Gear App Store so some app that I had no longer show available. That can be fixed. The wretched way the Gear and Note 3 worked together was beyond repair.
Wireless performance is exceptional and noticeably faster than the Note 3 both on Wi-Fi and LTE. I have a high-end AC router and downloads are jaw dropping fast. My Note 3 had no GPS issues and I know some folks did. In my case, GPS is about a tie or maybe even a bit better on the Note 3. The Note 4's fine but it takes it a while to lock and if it's moved to the background and back it gets lost until it locks again. It's not bad, it's just not as good as Wi-Fi and LTE.
Design, materials, and build quality. I feel sorry for Samsung. Everyone *****es them out about their "plasticky" phones, they do something about it, and it's not enough. The Note 4 is exceptionally well built to some of the most exacting tolerances I've seen on a mobile device. Look at how the plastic bezel insert flawlessly abuts the aluminium trim it's part of. Look how tight the back cover snaps on to be completely flush with the metal. There's even little body-colored inserts in the rocker switches that look perfectly aligned. So folks may not like Samsung's choices but the phone's solid, feels good in the hand, and has a "special" feel to it. Its biggest problem is that from six feet away it's hard to tell apart from the Note 3. But I was OK with Note 3's design any way and my phone's a tool not jewelry. As for the "gap." I'm not sure whether mine has one or not. There's three things happening at once on the edges of the phone - the 2D lip creates a reflection, the metal band creates a reflection, and at least on the white version I can't tell if there's a gap or not. There's so much going on visually at the edges of the display even if there was a gap no one but the anal retentive could possibly find it. Again, poor Samsung.
I found some cool new features, tips, and short cuts I'll share later. I'm all mobile device'd out right now.
The camera makes it worth every penny. What a world of difference! Like, polar. I can't believe the same company made both phones- the improvements to the camera h/w and s/w interface are immeasurable.
TouchWiz looks much nicer imo. Never had any issues with speed on the note 3, but the 4 does seem snappier. Design has definitely been improved- personal taste.
I don't really notice much of a difference in the screen unless I am looking at one of the beautiful photos I just took with insane detail. That is very nice. The screen allows you to appreciate the camera for sure.
Love the metal trim!
Speaker audio sounds louder and crisper, more full. I like the change in placement so my hand doesn't cover it up on the bottom.
S pen feels so much more responsive to light touch. I am a huge s pen user as I draw lots of diagrams and schematics. Never had an issue with the note 3 stylus, but this one feels like a very nice improvement (less pressure required to draw).
After trimming the fat off of background services (as I did on Note 3), my battery life seems slightly better than before- though the N3 seemed great as well. Time will tell.
Lots of other little details- too many to mention. A very happy customer. How someone could think the note 3 is better with such a huge difference in camera quality, I do not know.
Yes, very much worth it if you ask me!
Everyone is so excited about the camera, but does it:
1) allow take pictures while shooting 60fps 1080p videos?
2) have 60fps video with image stabilization?
3) does the camera keeps your settings if you switch to different modes and then quit/kill the camera app? (such as size, burst, stabilization, face detection. To test it, change these settings and switch to HDR mode, then hit home button and use the phone for a while by loading different apps, filling up the memory, until camera app gets removed from memory)
For Note 3 the answers are: no, no, no

Everyone is so excited about the camera, but does it:
1) allow take pictures while shooting 60fps 1080p videos?
2) have 60fps video with image stabilization?
3) does the camera keeps your settings if you switch to different modes and then quit/kill the camera app? (such as size, burst, stabilization, face detection. To test it, change these settings and switch to HDR mode, then hit home button and use the phone for a while by loading different apps, filling up the memory, until camera app gets removed from memory)
For Note 3 the answers are: no, no, no

You can take pictures while shooting video. Image stabilization is a thing when shooting in 1080p but not 4k. Not sure about the last, I didn't take a notice to that.
The video does seem more stable without software stabilization, probably the OIS I would imagine. Or maybe I'm just placebo-ing

Let's talk about the Note 10/Note 10+

#August 7th is the launch date if latest rumours are to be believed.
- What do you think about the rumored pinhole front facing camera? Looking at the small size of it, is it going to be inferior to the one in the S10+?
- The rumoured back cameras design looks a lot like what we have seen in several other smartphones. It does not look appealing to me and expected a better design.
- No hardware bixby button seen so far looking at trustworthy sources/renders. If it's real, it would feel like a fresh breath of air. Hope they all together killed it and not keeping a software-only bixby.
- Exynos 9820 or 9825? Hope the latter.
- 25W fast charging or something like 45W? Hope it's 45 but I'm kinda sure it'll be 25.?
#Meanwhile Vivo goes INSANE with 120W super fast charging to charge 4000 mAh in 13 minutes:
- No headphobe jack it seems, not that something I care much, but a lot will be furious for sure.
- Feels good to know about AMD & Samsung's GPU licensing deal, but it does not mean we will see Adreno GPU in Exynos SoCs so soon, and nothing tastes bitter than continuing with Mali GPUs.
- Courtesy to IceUniverse's tweet, Note 10's "chin" is very narrow and hence no speaker grooves on the forehead, meaning that the flagship Sound on Display(SoD) technology will replace the traditional speaker. This is a welcome move . SoD in LG G8 for example, produces fuller, louder and equally good sound like traditional stereo ones.
- Though improved with consecutive updates, the FP sensor on the S10/S10+ still struggles at times, hope we see a drastic change in the second gen sensor.
- UFS 3.0 for sure, fast AF, sweet to have irrespective of how much of a difference it actually makes in real world..
- I wish the pinhole was at the side. Sticking it in the middle is distracting and also wastes the space either side.
- I like the camera design on the rear, it looks more natural when you are taking landscape oriented shots.
- No Bixby? No problem. Look I have tried very hard to like Bixby, I have defended it many times but in all honesty it sucks. The button is a pain as I constantly accidentally press it when gripping the phone.
- I think the processor speed regardless of which version will be absolutely more than enough. I don't get hyped up about speed anymore, I haven't had performance issues with Samsung flagships in a very long time. The latest version is nice but I am not too fussed.
- Superfast wireless charging would be nice but it's not dealbreaking.
- I do want a headphone jack! I do not see the point in removing it just to be like all the others. If they do remove it I hope they ship with some decent wireless buds.
- A GPU upgrade is a long time coming.
- I like the idea of Sound on Display for making calls, so long as it doesn't make the external speakers sound crap or too quiet when playing music or video.
- I definitely think they will improve the fingerprint scanner. My S10+ is hit and miss and seems like it's in beta. I am sure this will be improved.
- UFS 3.0 ... I agree it might not be worth the excitement but nice to have.
I hope they stick to the more subtle curves on the edges and corners. As much as I like the look of the curves on my S10+ they aren't as comfortable/practical as the Note 9.
I hope we still have a MicroSD card slot and they add wireless power share. I also want to see more attention paid to low light photography and an increase in optical zoom.
Regardless, as a Note Nutter I will be buying a Note 10. I don't want to break the chain of Notes owned since 2011

Quite liked how you wrote.
Unfortunately, we will probably see Type C AKG earphones bundled with, and not wireless buds as per this tweet:
https://twitter.com/mweinbachXDA/status/1142429182431039488?s=19
We are already seeing massive low light improvements in the S10's after the updates :
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-camera-review-updates/
Note 10 should make it even better.
Sammy will probably not pay much attention to more optical zoom capabilities for now, but with 3 variable apertures being rumored, we might see sharper images in moderate lighting conditions due to the addition of f/1.8
https://mobile.twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1141608857220681728?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
Maybe they will offer the earbuds on pre-orders (fingers crossed) But whilst I don't use the headphone jack very much I really hate this band wagon jumping that OEM's started to do when Apple removed it unnecessarily because (cough) they were brave.
The rumour mill does suggest that the Note 10 might have a 5x Optical Zoom, though it might be more destined to coincide with the next year's A-Series launches, considered Samsung's test-bed models of late. I also read that their newly developed 64 megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor is not going to make it to the Note 10.
Which leads me on to this:
What's sad is that the Galaxy Note series was always considered Samsung's top jewel in the crown. If a new innovation was being pushed out you would find it on the latest Note. Now it seems that all the excitement is taken away once the S - Series phones are released (and in some cases the Galaxy A-Series) so owning a Note doesn't give you the bragging rights you once enjoyed. A good example is that I used to love the larger screen size offered by a Galaxy Note but now my S10+ is the same size as the Note 9. Camera innovations are often re-ported from the S to the Note, along with new bio-metrics and screen technology. So aside from the S-Pen, what do we really get for all that extra cash?
I upgrade each year all the same, because I have always considered the best Android phone each and every year is the Samsung Galaxy Note. But seriously, if the boundaries between the Galaxy S and the Note becoming more and more blurred my passion for this device will probable dwindle.

a new article appeared on gsmarena where it leaks new note 10 cases and it's clearly showing that it will not have a headphone jack. personally I don't see a reason to buy it, even though I have wireless headphones I also use the wired ones at work and for the moment I can't part myself from a very useful feature.
To be honest, the Note 10 seems too similar to the S10 5G. I do prefer the centered front camera and the S-Pen is nice, but is it worth losing a headphone jack and likely having a smaller battery? Also, we see a rumored A90 without a notch or punch, but with high end specs.
Samsung has created too many models. They likely could have saved money and cut costs by combining the 5G and Note models. They could differentiate them more by using different aspect ratios. Not everyone likes the 19:9 or 19.5:9 aspect ratios. Phones are getting tall and unwieldy and a bezel-less 18:9 or 18.5:9 phone would be welcome.

Yup. It doesn't look aggressive in the pics...
And I'm not liking the punch - "pin"hole front cam. The "capsule" in the s10+ distracts, this one will too, but it's too late for me to whine.
Eagerly waiting on the official details but so far dont like the pin hole camera hole, the camera hole on the s10+ looks much better and like u can add the battery icon colors.
If they remove the Bixby button that would suck because now since u can remap I use that all day every day for my Nest cameras on demand. I mean u could use google to open apps quickly button if its constantly listening to wake up i found that drains ur battery. It's great though if u have smart displays at home and all.
Yeah, looks like I will sit this one out. The note 9 is going to be the new note4 . The notch is a deal breaker and so is the lack of headphone jack. The back camera placement is fine tho. I too ,miss the days of the Note being the flagship, and all about business, but nows it's just the Galaxy S with a pen. Some people may think it's being silly, but I refuse to pay north of 1000 bucks for something that isn't exactly what I want. I also thought there would be more Note fans who share the same view, but it looks like I am in a small minority of folks who hate the notch and love the headphone jack. I now know how the fans of the ir blaster felt.

While it sad to see the headphone jack go, I don't find the audio all that good out of the Note 9 headphone jack. It's OK but nothing special.
I use a Bluetooth adapter which gives far better sound.
So I'm not too bothered about the Headphone jack going.

You know what's funny about your post? I legit just told my wife about 2 days ago I would have happily stayed with my note 4. I had so many accessories, giant batteries like zero lemon. It was truly decked out. My last got ridiculously smashed though
This stupid ''Infinity O'' thing in the middle of the Display on Top is the only reason to wait better on Note 11 or 12. Im no Fan with this Notch/InfinityO things overall. Anyway my Note 9 is atm a beast & i guss it will be a beast for the next 2-3 years. Hopefully Sammy managed this Displayhole till this day when i feel a need to upgrade.
Same here I'm staying with the note 9 for a few years

i designed an app to disable the edge display

this is something noone else has thought of either because it's a very stupid idea or because noone wanted it or thought about it, but i thought i could try any way, this app disables the edge display on the galaxy note 10, it disables it both visually and physically, touch will be completely disabled, i plan on having button shortcuts added too so you can launch the camera for example like a shutter button, this is a very niche idea that i doubt will be of interest to anyone, i am considering releasing it just as an experiment though, i made this thread to see what interest it gets in order to know if i should release it or not, my way of thinking when it comes to apps is just different, i don't like curves i don't like edge displays hence why i tried to get rid of it both for design and for the picture being distorted by the curve, theres ofcourse bugs associated with this, as the screen is meant to reach to the edge text or buttons can be difficult or impossible to press, so yeah a very niche idea but honestly it's growing on me to the point of the phone looking strange when i disable the app, it completely changes the look of the phone makes it almost unrecognizable like a note 9 with a flat display
Wasn't able to add a picture
It sounds interesting, I will try it if you release it
It really is growing on me

Good luck for you. But just curious why you bought this phone if you don't like curve screen.
Your idea is basically making a think bezel at the side.
Regarding accidently touching, Samsung already made an app called Edge Touch, which can customize area that immune to touch.

well theres no new phone without an edge display, theres two things i hate with new phones, edge displays and curved display corners, i just want a square flat display but thats pretty much if not impossible, i bought the note 10+ because it looks similar to a sony xperia with thin bezels, i only bought the note 10+ because it has a boxy design something that appeals to me, otherwise i would never buy it if it looked like a galaxy s10 i wouldn't even look in it's direction, i just tolerated the edge display but i never wanted it it ruins the phone the curved display corners ruins it too these are things that makes me want to send it back and buy a sony again but sony has curved displaycorners too which i hate so much i ended up sending the xperia 1 back as i could not stand those corners, the bezels on a xperia 1 or 5 are also uneven thicker at the top than the bottom which i can't stand i am also not a big fan of the 21:9 aspectratio which leaves practically no phone left, all phones look exactly the same the one plus 7 looks like a galaxy, the rog phone looks like a galaxy with thin bezels and ridiculous back, what i wouldn't pay for a sony xperia xz1 same metal build and design with an oled panel and bezels as thin as the note 10+ i would pay 1500 or more for that for that as i find myself wanting to go back to my xz1, the note 10+ is not good enough for that cost but it's very very close, the design makes me incredibly biased towards it, i also don't like how warm the display is even at the colest possible setting every time i look at the xz1 i just prefer the display more, i know about that app i use it myself, this app was meant to also remove the edge display visually.

s10e is way too round so i can't get that one
mi6t too round
oneplus 7 too round and a notch
what i require from a anew phone
1.boxy design like the note 10+ (anything rounder than the note 10+ and i won't even consider it i got the huawei mate 10 pro and it's nice but too round but i still got it as i knew flat square displays were a dying breed)
2.square flat display with no rounded screen corners
these are two things that simply do not exist in a new phone apart from the razer phone but that one has giant bezels and no oled, for some reason they are that rare the xperia 1 and 5 is as close as i can get, xperia 1 and 5 and note 10+ are the only phones for my taste theres nothing else i've looked everywhere it just doesn't exist it seems people are obsessed with round phones why i don't know, it's like i am an alien when it comes to smartphone design taste, i just don't understand why people want a curved display and when they say anything bad about it it's that it's pretty but not practical, i neither want it for the look or for it's feel.

I'm not obsessed and think that the wrong term, The edge Display (Agreed not practical) as in its functionality, however it does aid in the slimmer feel, mainly yes aesthetic, I have the Mate 20 X 5G also, that is a flat Display (7.2" of goodness) but I do appreciate the curve as it looks and yea feels good.
We are all into different things and for an OEM or OEMs to cater for every individual likes or wants (needs) then come on that's just not viable.
You are another level cookie ...... cant imagine there will ever be that device for you, especially now with the waterfall Display and folding phone Era
Not having a good not everyone is comfortable with the curve that's perfectly fine, but it's not going to change with Samsung, They might evolve the note line into the fold, but as if now the curve is here to stay.
The App is a solution for you and if it makes it a better experience then that's great, for me personally, obviously I bought the Note knowing its curve, so its neither a hindrance or a bother to me....

yeah i will never have the perfect smartphone i actually designed my own because of that
www.facebook.com/symetium/videos/2135545376537234/
did a curved design too this is where a curve is justified and i do like that type of curved design
and the app was not made just for that reason it was also made as a fun test
i use edge touch as that also disables the edge screens , find it within goodlock

Apple is trying really hard to make their phones uglier than the Pixel! Have you seen the new design?
Late reaction but I too want the ability to deactivate the edges of my screen. My reason is that that XServer XSDL used in combination with Linux Deploy will take all the available screen to display and that leads to buttons on the curved edges being almost hidden. I realise this is either very difficult or impossible to achieve and that a simpler solution would be to find/make another XServer application but this can be help in other situations. But since this thread is there I was hoping to check if zzcool or anyone else had a solution.

If you use something like the Zizo Bolt case accidental touches just don't happen.
This phone need a good case or it will be damaged... eventually.
I use the curve portion to house One Handed Operation plus, it works out nicely.
Occasionally I need to rotate into Landscape mode when cut/pasting, more often I do that for lengthening the search bar though.
I like the curved display... after some adjustment.
The square corners is what I really like... rounded corners look hideous.
iPhones look goofy... trix are for kids

 ONE thing you HATE about the Fold?

if you HAD to pick one Negative about the phone, what would it be?
amongst the list of things i don't like, i must choose the one thing i use every single day, multiple times a day.
the POWER Button.
my previous device (huawei mate 20x), had a taught power button which didn't wiggle around, satisfying click when pressed, and for a bonus, textured and colored.
the Fold: aside from failing to combine the Power button and the Fingerprint Scanner, the power button on the Fold is just like any other Galaxy device: cheap, thin, loose, and mushy to press.
anyone else have something that erks them using the phone daily?
I have problems with the fingerprint reader. I misplace my finger a lot. I miss FaceID it was so much smoother.
I don't use the button. I double tap the screen instead.
The front screen sucks. I can't text, email on it. It's so small. I love My fold, but the front screen kills me!

here is something almost everyone doesn't think about when wishing for an edge to edge, top to bottom, front display:
how much imbalance it would create on the phone. one handed use would be completely be gone.
- for someone not using a launcher: reaching up top to swipe down notification shade
- whether using standard navigation buttons, or using edge swiping: imagine reaching all the way down just to hit he navigation area
- people who use swipe one handed for text, it actually is perfect ergonomically the way it is now.
- not everyone has big hands
during and even before the Fold presentation almost a year ago, everyone was criticizing the front screen size without thinking about it in depth, and people STILL criticize it in newer videos, made 2 or 3 months ago.
all they see is bezel and think "its 2019/2020, wtf are we doing with huge bezels?!?!?"
i hope samsung doesn't listen to all these brainless people moaning and groaning about screen to body ratio % in their next folding tablet device.

here is something almost everyone doesn't think about when wishing for an edge to edge, top to bottom, front display:
how much imbalance it would create on the phone. one handed use would be completely be gone.

Actually the front screen doesn't have to be all the front, but it definitely needs to be wider. It's just to narrow to write fast and without issues. It works, but it's cumbersome. I mostly swipe or dictate because typing is too annoying ?
To your main question, one thing I hate about the Fold:
There are some things which could be better, like the fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, no notch, S-Pen support, wider front screen, glass screen, IP ratings, faster charging (like Note10+) and much much more... but there's just 1 thing which really annoys me: the selfie cameras. They're all ****ty. Even compared to S7 until Note10+ it's just ****. The can't focus on something you tap. All Samsung flagships can do it. It's so ****ty I don't take any selfies anymore. Even using GCam doesn't change anything because it's a hardware thing. To be honest, they could have added the Note10 selfie cam on the small front and no other cameras. They could also remove the notch since the cameras are very bad ?
