[Q] Downside to 4G LTE?

Noob here who has decided on Samsung note 10.1 for my first tablet ... but which one? Looking for fastest performance and longevity. Does the added mobility of 4G degrade performance during WiFi operation? ... are there disadvantages other than related costs?
tx in advance!

I will advice the 4G version because it have the Snap800 like processor and have the 4G that is better and faster like 3G.
Finally, the Snap800 will have more support from dev then the 3G with the Exynos by Sammy

The trade-off will be reduced battery life most likely if traveling in weak LTE areas.

I'm leaning towards SD800, especially after what I saw in the picture

I wouldn't say that the sd is faster just yet, there are no real benchmarks out there just yet for the new octo core 5420, based on the few cryptic leaks they seem to think that the new octo might be a tiny bit faster. Im not going to jump to any conclusions just yet, I would preffer the sd800 on my device if only for the cyanogenmod support

Will you be able to use this device as a phone? As in does it have a dialer that you can use with a regular SIM like the old one?

I'm getting the one with the Snapdragon processor in it.

Sammy promised that they will include HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) in their 5xxx processors . Ie; they will make s4,note3 and note 10.1 to real octa core processors through a software upgrade (say kernel upgrade)...so guess , which will have higher performance , sd or exynos? ? ? ?
And also exynos version will have wolfson audio DAC in it , so exynos defeats sd in audio performance

I would welcome an LTE model on Verizon except it will be limited to 16GB of storage and I just won't accept that. You need 32GB or higher internal storage for apps not medial content that is what the microsd is for.

I think I read that the phone version (which won't be sold by US cellular companies) is limited to 2G. I would love to hear differently.

Whoa..that's completely unacceptable (I'm Verizon). Agree on 32 min. Where can I find spex on Verizon's version?
The spec sheet Mashari_F posted helps differentiate among variants but I'm still not clear.
I'll likely have to wait until later in Nov. for my own good ... see how users are feeling about SD VS. OCTA and see what Verizon puts out vs. Wifi.

16GB should be fine, I have tons of apps and games installed on my 16GB old note 10
and still have 4-5GB left, if you are planning on installing huge games like nova 3 (I think it takes up 2.2GB) then you might want to consider the 32GB instead
if you root and have a nice size microsd handy, you really wont have to worry about it

So, if you want the best CPU, you have to buy the version with a cell radio in it? That's kinda dorky, since I can just tether to my phone. But I guess if I want the best CPU I gotta buy the 4G (that I won't use).

Yes, sure.
Because Snap800 support LTE.
And Snap800 version will be better then Exynos
See the S4, the S600 have more support that Exynos Octa...

We dont know which is more powerful yet, this is the new octa core, not the old one

I won't see bench, because they don't have a lot of sense.

Samsung released the kernel source for the Exynos version a few days ago (sammobile.com/2013/09/20/samsung-releases-kernel-source-for-galaxy-note-10-1-2014-edition). I'm not very familiar with all the lingo, so please enlighten me: Is this not (all) the source code that devs need to do their thing?

Can someone explain why someone buys an expensive note 10.1 only to install cyanogenmod and lose all the exclusive features? (Spen, multiwindow, ir blaster, and some other things)
Just buy a nexus 10 or wait for the new one if you are going to do that

The big problem there isn't the source code, this was an older problem, but the structure of the partition and the core.
If a dev will build a kernel, the source are here.
But, trust me, snap have a source code more easy, it's quadcore, and we know all about this.

In fact, i will buy it only for the feature of the tab, not for the Cyano rom
Maybe, someone, will work on a tweaked rom Touchwiz based.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review (Real User Review)

I've had my Le Pro 3 for over a week now and just published my full detailed video review which covers pretty much everything from the design, cameras, dual loudspeakers, benchmarks, GPS and wifi range and speeds.

I also ran a speed test and comparison against my Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus just to see how they compared as both have Snapdragon 821's and 4GB of RAM.
Overall it's a very decent mobile however, it still has the flaws from the Le Max 2, large black bezels, no MicroSD or 3.5mm port are deal breakers for some. Audio from the type-c to 3.5mm adaptor is very clean and sounds great. No static and loud too.
The camera is a bit of a let down, no OIS still and while it can take some decent photos in good light, low light and video is not the greatest for a flagship mobile. The Chinese need to really step up their game on the camera department. I wouldn't by this mobile for the best camera, I would buy it for good performance and great battery life. I was able to get around 11 hours of SoC (continuous)

I was planning to ditch my Axon 7 for this phone, but not really that sure anymore. Seems like a lateral transfer, not really an upgrade in any way (except for battery life I suppose?).

I want to buy the phone because it has great specs (does it feel as good as it sounds?) but I want to know if google services work flawlessly e.g. contact syncing,play store. Since you have this phone what is your general opinion about it, does it work buying it?

I also have this phone. No problem with Google services or Play store. Contactar syncing was perfect, with Google account and others account.
Two days with It and i like It a lot.
In my experience 6:30 of screen with 4G and almost without wifi.

Thanks for the review. Maybe the Pro3 is not the best phone ever made. But it seems to be very very good, will most likely not explode and - taking into account the price - there is simply no competition. Hopefully, my phone will be delivered soon ...

I've received it today...very beautiful and work really good. We need an international ROM however.
I have this problem...it doesn't let me change or delete default APN. A problem I read is already present in other EUI smartphone someone has solved this Problem?

Thanks for that great review. Just some questions. Believe there are some like me who do not have access to LeEco products but are still keen on buying from an online reseller but have some concerns.
1. Are there any noticeable hardware issues? - understand that there are some complaints recently even on the le 2 that the display was not installed properly. Wondering if there are other types of defects that could render the device unusable for the obsessive compulsive people out there
2. What sort of rom is your unit using? - Importers/international sellers are known to meddle with the device to cater to the demands of their target demographic especially to those outside of china, hence, they can install fake roms (custom miui roms that don't receive updates for example) or install play store (after a restore to factory option, the gapps disappear)
3. The rom US units use seem to differ to the non-us units and the model numbers also differ. Would this be an issue if say the international rom is released and its not compatible with a unit bought from an importer? - had an issue before with a mi5 where the rom was an unofficial one and had to go through the hassle of unlocking the bootloader and installing the global rom instead
4.Any idea of software support in the long run and how prompt are LeEco's updates; ie Android N?

I know that US version x727 should be only 4/64 4gb ram and 64 GB ROM. It should have different LTE bands...in order to be used on us market.
Probably the us ROM couldn't be used on Chinese units.

I have been using pro3 (x720) for three weeks. The screen display picture occasionally shake for about 0.2 second. This is the most disturbing issue. You can find the same complain in the Chinese leEco forum. Beside, mobile signal is not as strong as the nexus 5 I used for almost 3 years. If you can ignore these two issue, it's a great phone to have.

Do you think its software related? Whats the rom they're using? Is it like the Mi phones where there is a vendor altered rom installed and does leeco release global stable roms like miui? Sorry, bear with me here ! thanks!

We all running stock rom with/without root. I hope it's rom related issue. As of now ,no official rom zip is available from LeEco.

Just bought the 6/64 nonUS Version to use in Europe. Bought it after watching your review, thanks for that!....
Will directly root the phone in order to remove the chinese App's but wating for some plain Android rom's (stock Android). Had CM9 or so on a galaxy before and i wasnt that suprised as i supposed to be, but will also give it a try if it comes available to the Le Pro 3....
I'm sure with the actual specs and this awesome price the community behind the Pro3 will grow fast. Also i would donate 10€ to support the devs.

I just got my Chinese version (6GB/64GB Dual Sim) - The phone is lightning fast. Screen looks great - camera is okay (I just snap pics anyways not really a photo person). The screen is decent if not a bit washed out. Indoors is just fine - outdoors I have to crank it to about 85% to see it. The fingerprint reader seems lightning fast if not 100% accurate. ( I get about 4 out 5 times). It let me add multiple fingerprints to unlock left or right handed. Overall the build is pretty solid. I put in my att sim and did not have to do anything else. Picked up all my settings. My antutu scores are 162397 - just shy of iphone 7 scores. Apparently the install is not google certified. I cannot run Pokemon Go or Android Pay (and snapchat I am told I don't use it). Pokemon Go is the soul breaker for me...
The GPS seems to lock lightning quick. I have not had any issues with Google apps although some updating had to happen (google services, play app, mail app etc...).
The battery seems amazing. I am getting great times out of it I don't have exact numbers but so far so good at least as good as my s7 edge.
I was able to put the google now launcher on it so no issue with the leeco skin.
Hopefully with the US launch tomorrow it will have a google certified image so I can run Pokemon go if not I am not sure I will keep it.

I can't Android pay isn't active in Italy.I can't prove it...sorry.

Should I buy Helium or just go with hydrogen?

I know this topic has been discussed a few times already but i can't find the answers I'm looking for.
I don't know if i should go with the 128gb/4gb ram (helium) version or 32/gb ram (hydrogen) version.
My questions are:
1. Is there such a big difference in performance between the 4gb ram + snapdragon 652 and 3 gb ram + snapdragon 650? (~100$ price difference)
2 .Can you install hydrogen roms on helium? (miui for me doesn't seem very interesting)
The hydrogen community is a lot bigger than the helium one. (Probably because hydrogen has the same specs as the redmi note 3 pro)

Not really if you ask me. They are negligable if you won't do CPU intensive tasks. 3GB of RAM is sufficient if you ask me.
No, you certainly cannot. There are reports of folks who did this. They ended up with a hardbrick and they had to open the device up physically to flash it. MIUI is okay-ish. I would still prefer stock Android over it though.

1. I haven't used a Helium but I've read that there's no real difference in terms of real-world performance. Obviously there is a spec difference, but like I said I've read that the upgrade is so minor it's not really worth it unless you're dying for that extra internal storage. I've got the 32GB/3GB version with a 200GB Sandisk working just fine. Way more than enough storage for me!

I have read that you can flash Hydrogen ROMs on Helium with a few minor changes to the files (there's evidence of this in the official CM 14 thread), but like the previous poster said, I would not recommend this. Personally (and this is just my opinion...) every ROM available seems a little too buggy even for Hydrogen at the moment. The kernel source hasn't been out all that long and the source ROMs haven't had that much time to develop, so if you're looking to flash for a daily driver I'd wait a few weeks/months. (Seriously, just an opinion. I like my ROMs to be bulletproof!)

I didn't meant to flash firmwares on it. I meant use hydrogen custom roms that you install in recovery.

Well, according to a few people in this thread, Hydrogen and Helium share the same Kernel Source. So, I guess the only hold up would be optimisation for the hardware differences. i.e. getting the extra two cores online for the Helium's 652, etc.

Oh.. So there's not that much of a difference between the 650 and 652.

Get the Helium, it has more internal storage, more cores and when you go to sell it you'll get a little bit more for it.

There definitely isn't a huge difference between them, and it's debatable whether you'll see any real difference in daily use.
As ajsmsg78, you'll be able to resell the handset for a higher price later on, but you'll also be spending more to buy the 652 in the first place.
I already had a 200GB Sandisk that is only a few months old and I'm pretty used to 32GB internal storage. As I don't install many games 32GB is fine for me (I've still got 12GB internal free, and that probably won't change all that much). I use the 200GB for my entire music collection plus all photos and video I shoot.
It really is down to your particular circumstances. If you've got the dough, definitely go for the 652! 128GB internal would be great, especially when combined with a 200GB external!
If you're looking to grab a bargain, you'll be more than happy with the 650.
(When I purchased my handset the 128GB 652 was an extra $90-$100 more, which for me is a pretty big difference!)

3GB RAM vs 4GB RAM Mi5S

I'm looking into getting the mi5s (not the plus)
Not sure which one to get! But want to spend the least money.
To explain I have cloud storage, Google...
I stream everything to my phone, so 64GB storage should be plenty, but 128GB sounds tempting as I could store more videos and music.
The question I'm asking is, is there a noticeable difference between 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM?
If I could afford it now, I would go for the more expensive option, but right now I can only afford the 3GB RAM 64GB ROM version.
So should I hold out to get the 4GB RAM version just for the extra 1GB RAM? Like I say I can make do with streaming my stuff, as where I live, work and play there's always WiFi or 4G.

More RAM is always welcomed in Android.
I have 4GB 128GB version. With MIUI global 7.1.5, available RAM is always 1GB or less.
There's only 1 game app installed.

Exactly he same on my 3GB version, ~1GB free.
The fact is you can use the free RAM as a parameter.
The only OS I know that flush memory immediately is Windows, all the other OS I know give it back when need because the others use it also as "cache".
I don't have any problem with mine and the whole OS+apps are very smooth and fluid.
I would say, if you are on budget, buy 3GB version now. If you wait and you use free RAM as parameter 4GB will not be enough and you'll have to buy a 6GB device.

Atm I'm still rocking the Moto x play, and I've always got 500MB RAM free, so having a gig free on 3GB RAM phone will be an increase for me.
Would it be it be possible to block ads on the mi5s without rooting? As I want to be able to use android pay.
Edit: just realised I can block ads without root, using adblock or dns66. Though will android pay still work?

Still remember that Moto is Stock Android and that Xiaomi is MIUI, so i guess its heavier, if u know what i mean. If u r running that low maybe your option is going for the 4GB 128GB but not the Mi5S, 'just' the Mi5 lol
The mi5 is great and it actually has development, but the Mi5S basically nothing apart from MIUI official ROMS. So the Mi5s doesnt have cm or anything like that to go to just in case u rnt sure about miui and prefer to go back to aosp

That is true. But that's temporary. When Xiaomi releases kernel sources for Mi 5s, there will be much more development as device has very affordable price for the hardware it provides which does make it rather popular...

Mi 5s have cm ported :good: Right now, mi 5s have LineageOS and CM13 ported by Xiaobai112220

Does anyone use this OS as their daily driver? What are your experiences and thoughts with the OS?

My Samsung A3 is almost 5 years old and I still use it as my daily driver, I'm thinking about flashing Lineage OS to the device and I'm wondering what anybody's experiences were with using the OS as their daily driver. I will use it mostly for calling, texting and journaling. I also listen to music quite frequently. I don't intend on installing any of the popular apps.

I've been using LineageOS and Cyanogenmod forever. It works wonderfully and I do anything I can with the stock OS and more.

I run LineageOS on my Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos and use it as my daily driver. It's running Lineage 17.1 which is Android 10 (18.1/11 has just become available too) - not bad for a phone launched in February 2014, which is now over 7 years ago!
If it wasn't for this phone only having 2GB of RAM onboard a lay person probably wouldn't notice much difference compared to a more modern mid range phone.
With LineageOS there's a lot less bloat so Storage, RAM, CPU Performance, and Battery Life are all improved.
I went the whole way and the phone is rooted as well and to be honest I wouldn't look back. I bought this phone all those years ago specifically to do this and it's really paid off.
But remember the LineageOS ROMs are specific for each phone. So the first thing to do is to find the support thread here for your particular model and read through it for points relative to your specific device.
I really like the freedom that LineageOS and Root gives me to do whatever I like with my phone, all while getting monthly updates and having a support thread of like minded users (well actually many of them are way more power users than me). Daily driver performance is excellent.
When I buy a new phone it will again be a model that can run LineageOS and be rooted. And I'll do this immediately after purchasing the device. These days that also makes some chinese model phones a good option as they often have a good hardware to price value ratio, but terrible support and updates. So it's possible to use this good value hardware but combined with an excellent LineageOS ROM, support, and updates instead.

It's OK if you have A3 2016. But what's your motivation? Playing around? Avoiding Google spying? Impressing friends with new android version?

Thank you for the detailed response, and for reminding me to check the support thread for my model! I also noticed that the less popular Chinese model phones had better price to hardware ratios and the only thing stopping me was exactly what you mentioned, though I'm doing this to an A3 I'll probably consider buying something of the sort in the future for when I want an upgrade. From your response, Lineage is looking hopeful!
