Hey guys,
I got me an Aukey 4 USB+HDMI, USB-C hub. I've plugged it in but can't get anything to happen. I plug in a USB wireless mouse, nothing happens. I plug in a USB keyboard, nothing, no lights on shift lock/num lock, nothing. I plugged in an HDMI cable and, although the screen seems to be getting signal (It doesn't auto-power save) i can't get anything to show on it.
Have I bought an incompatible hub? Am i not doing something important?
Thanks!
are you conecting it directly? I tried to read a sd card just using the little adapter and a card adapter, and, could not, then tried with the BIG ONE included, this time it worked, mi conclusion is that you need always this BIG adapter in order to read external, mouse, keyboard, etc.
The little one is not usb otg compatible!!!

But then what would be the point of USB-C port if you have to adapt it back to a standard USB port? In addition, you would probably also lose the video functionality.....
I'm beginning to wonder if I needed to buy a powered USB-C hub?
edit: btw, I have a USB-C micro-SD card reader and it works fine directly connected although, it only works one way up, so much for being a reversible format!
From what I know Note 7 don't has MHL, so cannot connect to HDMI.

Anyone know if it's possible to use MHL in conjunction with a microUSB to USB host adaptor to output to HDMI and access an external USB drive at the same time? That'd make the SGS2 an amazing portable media unit.
No, it is not posible. Its an either/or connection to the micro USB port.
Shame, because as you say that would really be a great thing. MHL consortium are considering a number of improvements to the 2.0 MHL spec, so in future devices this may be a possibility.
So MHL can't be used when I'll plug a USB-Hub?
No, sadly not.
It's a shame - for now I'd prefer micro USB & separate HDMI port so USB can be utilised as well as an external display.
As would I, and a lot of others I suspect.
But you've got 16 GB memory and can copy your stuff to the memory and watch it later via MHL on your Flat? So this is not a big problem, I think

Yes, but 16Gb of FAT32 and you can't copy a file > 4Gb
I would use allshare to stream the movie or whatever to your phone from a laptop and connect the phone to TV via the MHL HDMI adapter...that way you have access to ur laptop's data without being hardwired to it

Not that I'm aware of...
I bought one from Ebay and can't really do anything good with it. Display shows briefly for 3-4 seconds on TV then disappears again. Don't know why.....I hope it's not the device itself because I tested 2 phones, they were bought at the same time, but none of them would work correctly....
If by generic you mean a not samsung one or one not dedicated to the SGS2 then i actually use a one, from ebay or someting like that, everything works perfect you just cant forget to plug power to it, and about the not working one, it seems mine gets jammed by gsm signal (i.e. when receiving a call), so from time to time the image disappears in a blink of noise, maybe that is your problem too, try it in airplane mode.
Oh, I think I misread that question - I have actually used a generic one with my SGSII (a prototype from the MHL consortium) and it worked fine!

Uhm no. I've been streaming with WIFI through MHL no problem for MONTHS. Using the Original Samsung MHL connector of course.
I have to put mine in offline mode to be able to use the MHL adapter.....
As for USB-OTG no luck yet.....
On Amazon, Ebay, DealExtrem ... you will find adapters that can do 3 things at a time:
- output HDMI
- let phone work as usb host, so that you can plug kbd, mouse, and external HDD (second wifi card, wired ethernet ...); once you have the usb A plug, just pub a hub
- recharge the phone (what is not possible with the legacy short OTG cable).
+ read memory cards
Such devices are sold as MHL devices. Some MHL devices don't to all that.
Take care. MHLv2 is more complex than MHLv1.

Could you post a link as an example for such a device, that works properly (if you've tested, or you know it works) ?
Thank you
I can post links, but ... I have not tested any of those. And don't know any one personally who tested it.
Cable:
http://www.amazon.com/Juiced-Systems-MHL-Adapter-MicroSDHC/dp/B008CQKM2U
http://www.dx.com/p/5-in-1-micro-us...n-micro-usb-adapter-black-257780#.U8HYDNePul0
Monobloc:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Micro-USB-Ho..._MobilePhoneDataCables_JN&hash=item258600844e
I don't like the monobloc version; I fear it's too heavy, and may help breaking the phone plug.
There are all sorts of OTG and MHL cables. I have seen OTG dongles as short as 4cm (monobloc), with small cable (8cm: 4-8€), with long cable (1.5m .... should be 7 feet), pure HDMI (passive cable, no card reader, 8-12€), VGA (including very cheap HDMI to VGA converter, 20-30€ ... including sound output). In some case, you need to buy accessories (extra power supply, extra uUSB cable, extra HDMI cable). Also seen a very cute hybrid card reader: http://dx.com/p/285865 (I love this product design, and I love this URL syntax )
Don't forget that there can be mistakes in item description.
Here I have described how to build an external battery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54036759&postcount=17
On previous phone, I just soldered additional battery to internal one; on my new phone, I will do something more complex, and more flexible.
Loosing power via OTG/MHL is not a fatality. Most phone have an other hidden power input:
généric, that uses the USB plug:
http://www.dx.com/p/reverse-qi-wire...arger-receiver-for-micro-usb-cellphone-312805
TRIPLE CHECK POLARITY; I took the wrong one; have to fold the cable.
So ... even if your OTG/MHL module takes power from your USB, and can not recharge your phone, the specific shell can charge your phone the other way So, you need to build an internal specific module:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK7PRJ4SiK0
S2 specific back shell, so called receiver:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2013-newest-wireless-charger-for-samsung-galaxy-s2/1266101036.html
http://www.exportprive.com/en/batte...reless-charger-set-for-samsung-galaxy-s2.html
http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/QI-Wireless-Charger-for-Samsung-Galaxy_821969998.html?s=p
The SGS2 is not designed to accept wireless chargers, so, you have two options:
- solder and take the pins out (cf youtube) (do not solder coild to battery, or you could overcharge the batt, and burn your phone ... I mean, physically set fire)
- find an item that includes back shell + specific battery (exportprive)
Many recent phones have the internal connectors, so you just need to change the back-cover. In this case, the software will be able to know the charger is wireless (as opposed to AC, and USB; advanced battery tools will show those 3 possibilities). I believe the motherboard for my HTC One M8 is designed to have those pins, but I can't find the specific cover yet (maybe in a few months); only found it for M7.
I want to attach two usb devices to my Note.
One will be the MHL adapter and one will be the 2.4ghz wireless unit for a keyboard like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250996855143.
I need a Micro USB male to 1x Micro USB female and 1x USB female adapter.
These for some strange reason don't exist
I was just wondering if anyone has done anything similar.
I know I could get a Bluetooth keyboard, but I don't have one. I do however have the above keyboard
Oh wow! I'm interested into this keyboard! Does Lenovo Mini Wireless keyboard work perfectly with the Note? All buttons are recognized and trackball mouse is usable?
Its really good, i use it on my Note and my Libretto W100. The mouse and keyboard work perfectly.

You cannot attach 2 or more devices to the same usb port. You need an usb hub for that, but I don't know if the MHL would work with the hub. I will try later today to attach an usb hub and connect more devices, and will report my findings.

Edit:
--------------------------------------------
I have successfully connected a self powered usb hub to the galaxy Note, and connected 2 thumb drives, a combo card reader, and a mouse. The Note mounted both of my thumb drives, as /usbstorage/sda and /usbstorage/sdb respectively. Then I inserted a mikroSD card into the card reader and the phone mounted it as sdc. I then inserted an sony memory stick into the card reader and it was mounted as sdd. All mounts were usable, and I could watch movies from them, and watch pictures, copy files from one to the other, etc... But, when I connected the mouse to the usb hub it didn't recognize it. Whatever combination I tried the Note would not recognize my mouse, when plugged into the usb hub. When plugged directly to the OTG cable it works perfectly, but won't work when connected to the hub (maybe cables are to long).
Using rooted stock xxla6 firmware.
Edit2:
---------------------------------------
Just found out, that usb otg and mhl cannot work simultaneously. When the MHL cable is plugged in, the GNote's microusb port will become an MHL port, and from that point it will not act as an usb host or usb slave. :-(
It's too bad, 'cause I really wanted to connect it to my full hd monitor and use a mouse and keyboard, too.

This is the setup I'm going to do also. But as with topic, it's also very tempting to have everything USB powered. Since it will decrease latency and maybe power consumption as well? (as opposed to bluetooth) Well, MHL to HDMI will still drain our battery even if we connect it to power source

Hi, i bought this Xiaomi TipeC Adaptor
and this MicroSd Reader, to combine them toghether with my OP3.
But they just don't work toghether.
Separately, everything is fine, Xiaomi Adaptor charge my phone, MicroSd are working fine with other adaptors or with Pc, the reader either is working fine with Pc or others smarphones.
Did i miss something?
Thanks
still one test to do, connecting one OP3 on a PC with that adapter and see if you can transfer some file with MTP.
Did you turn on OTG in the OP3 settings? If you did, try it with a different OTG device and report back

Yes man, i did, Otg it is on and it is working with a TypeC MicroSd Reader. Recognized instantly, can move files. Same MicroSd.
So, every single piece is working fine alone or in combo, just not working this combination, with XiaomiAdapter (TypeC to Micro Usb and MicroUsb MicroSd Reader) but i can't get why.
Maybe the Xiaomi adapter doesn't pass enought electricity to power the MicroUsb MicroSd Reader.
But I don't know how to "overvolt" the Otg Adapter in order to make it work.
Not sure why this occurs but I've had the same exact issue trying to use micro USB OTG adapters with a USB-A flash drive.
USB OTG just doesn't work unless you use a USB-C OTG adapter. Same thing happens in the Nexus 6P

You plug the USB C end into the Pixel and then use another cable to connect an older phone (presumably one you're already using with the older phone). Micro USB/Lightning into the older phone, USB into the adapter. The adapter can also be utilized for OTG - USB C into the Pixel, flash drive/other USB device into the USB port.

Also to use OTG. Plug that in, and you can hook up a keyboard, mouse, removable drive, someone elses phone, whatever.
Could someone clarify. I plugged the adapter in how I was directed by a thread at the "pixel community". The thread referenced a way to use the adapter to transfer files however I plugged it in set the settings to xfer files and nothing. Does the adapter go into the pixel or the (in my case) Note 7? The thread listed a way to make these transfers upon start up but I'm way past start up. I need to transfer a couple apps and a big phone log and a truck load of texts. Any help out there?
Are there currently any adapters that allow charging while also using a 3.5mm jack?
The Google store has this, but nobody can give me any information on what "Coming Soon" means.
Any ideas?
Moshi has them available for purchase now, but only on their web site and not through google.
Hopefully that means google will have them soon, I really want one to leave in my car but i dont know if i can justify the 45$ price tag.

I was researching for such a solution. In the XDA U11 forum, I saw this and ordered it, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0R1F1M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You plug the provided 3.5mm adapter into it. It would be a bad portable solution, but might be good enough for a desk. I will report back on whether it works for the Pixel 2.

Yes please report back. As I understand those adapters need to have a DAC builtin, but if you are using oem dongle then perhaps it can communicate to phone through this adapter

I dont know if you looked at the product, but what he is doing is using the included USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that came with the phone, so that DAC would be there.

But I already gave away my P2, I decided to keep P1 for now until 8.1 release at least. I was excited about camera but I prefer P1 images they look better to my eyes

It works completely! I tested a bunch of scenarios and am very happy. Only drawbacks so far are the thing is about half the size of the phone and the pigtail is about four inches.
Here is what works:
Rapid charging with a USB-C charger
Playing back music through the supplied USB-C audio adapter with and without charging attached
USB cable to an iPad (at least it connected and was recognized but I could not access pictures; I had the same issue with the data transfer adapter so I don't think this hub is at fault)
USB cable to a Canon camera
USB memory card reader
It would not read my micro SD card in the hub's slot initially but I got it to work.
Notes:
I did not test using the headset adapter with a wired microphone. I don't know if that is supported and don't have one.
You don't have to change the USB settings to get it to work. It just worked automatically.
The charging port is the one closest to the pigtail. The other port doesn't work for that purpose. The white lettering on silver case is hard to read so it is easy to miss which port is required for charging.
I didn't test it with HDMI because I cannot get the phone to work with the HDMI cable I purchased even when directly connected.
Here is the link again: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0R1F1M/
*edit: got the card reader to work.
Hopefully we'll have a portables position under $45!
In the meantime I bought a Bluetooth receiver so in the car I can charge and use BT for audio to the car.
You could also buy a Bluetooth receiver and plug your earhones in it.

So the 4 inch pigtail goes into the phone, the PD charging port is connected to your Pixel wall charger, and the 3.5 USB c adapter connects to the data only USB C port?
Did you try to connect a keyboard, mouse, or USB Ethernet adapter to the USB A side? I am curious if those device work on the Pixel 2.
Thanks for your info.

Correct; that is how I connected it. I tried an AnyKey security key that presents a USB keyboard interface and that worked as a keyboard. I don't have a mouse or ethernet adapter to try. I did also try a USB memory card adapter and that worked too.
I'm using this one, which is the same as the one above but cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FHLTNM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It will charge the phone rapidly, play audio through the headphone dongle, read a micro SD card, read USB keys through the USB A ports, all at the same time, not bad for $14.
Moshi speaks!
FYI, this is response I got from Moshi rep, regarding the charge/play adapter.
While we do not know when exactly it will be available in Google's store, the same product is already available in our own web store - https://www.moshi.com/usb-c-digital-audio-adapter-with-charging
We are aware of that some users have been experiencing issues with this adapter, and we are already working together with Google on a solution for this. With that said, it appears that this only affects certain Pixel devices, as a clear majority of users (including our own product team and Google) haven't had any issues when testing multiple adapters on the Pixel devices in our office.
Although our team does not have a solution for the reported issues at this time, they are currently working with different software updates to see if this may resolve the issue. We are therefore not working on any hardware upgrades at the moment.
Hope this information helps.
