Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone can help with this problem?
,
I'm having trouble hooking it up to my PC which is running XP.
When I chose to connect as either "Media Device MTP" or "Camera PTP" I get an error message on the taskbar of my PC:
"USB device Not Recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned , and Windos does not recognise it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
I click the message and get taken to the list of USB devices with one in bold stating "Unknown device", I click on it and try to update the drivers etc but PC is unable to instal newer drivers.
I think I've narrowed this down to an MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) driver not being installed on the PC, so have installed Windows media player 11, Kies, Samsung PC Studio 7, tried searching the net for drivers, even tried installing Galaxy S2 drivers and none of them work.
Does anyone know what else I may be able to try, or can someone tell me where I could get the correct driver as this is starting to drive me nuts...
PS. I have hooked up the Nexus to my work PC (running Vista) and was recognised withing seconds, so is not a faulty phone
Thanks in advaance for you help!!

Hah, you posted what I managed to resist writing. I thought to myself 'someone's bound to bring that up'... Right on time!
Just get WiFi file explorer PRO and sync through wifi...but I'm quite sure that you can get MTP to work on winXP.
Can't really help you with the Galaxy Nexus since mine hasn't arrived yet but for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 I didn't install any driver (honeycomb also only understands MTP). I let windows install all the drives automatically, had to restart a couple of times but in the end I had a working connection with no Samsung crap like Kies installed.

I've got this as the work around at the moment, but finding it a bit laborious having to transfer one file at a time.
Finding that Samsung website is quite useless - only has the User guide as downloadable PDF.
Microsoft website is even less helpful...!

You can transfer as many files as you like....up.
And to be honest you can also try using an FTP server, it works very well and then you can browse your phone easily.

Is that with XP?
I thought I was getting there after installing WMP 11 as I got a message stating "Galaxy" when I connected the USB cable, but it still didn't work fully.
A couple of re-boots later it resorted back to "USB Device not Recognised"
Hope the Nexus conmects for you when it arrives

Do you mean that you can upload multiple files in one go with Wireless file transfer Pro?
with music for eg. I'm having to do one track at a time?
Will look at the FTP servers now, any recommendations?

Sorry no, it was something worse, Vista.
If you got xp to recognize it as "Galaxy" you should be on the right track. I remember that being the first device in Vista too. The auto update feature installed various Samsung updates, always after the device couldn't be started and almost all of them required a restart. But about five of these updates (and restarts...) later it connected correctly. No Samsung software necessary.
Don't know if that was dumb luck but I'm not complaining.
I have missing MTP driver on my WIndows XP laptop for work (I use Win 7 at home) is there any solution to this yet?
Try this.
It will install the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit (MTP drivers) on Windows xp and should allow the device to be recognised.
I uploaded the file (which I downloaded directly from Microsoft) so you dont have to validate first. Download it *HERE* and install.
Let me know if it works for Windows xp and I will add it to my fixes section im writing.
Mark.
Thanks, Mark,
I did find and download that file earlier but it didnt work. However, as my work laptop is subject to Group Policy, it may still work for others. I do have local admin rights on my machine so I wouldnt have thought it would be a problem but we always get quirks with our corporate builds.
I have found other references on the net to a file from Creative called "fixup.zip" which apparently includes the MTP drivers (tweaked to also allow recognition of creative devices) but I cant find anywhere to download it from.
after a little searching with Google i found the answer
so my laptop runs XP (because i shoot tethered to my Canon Camera and i know it works) and i use the laptop to sync my phones (also collects my e-mail etc) and i stumbled on this thread when i was searching for a solution as to why MTP failed to install with my new Nexus..
the solution is
to install Windows Media Player 10! once i did that, BAM! i can see my Nexus in the explorer window with the rest of my drives

New "known issue" - samsung!
I had issues trying to get the device working on 3 computers yesterday (Win 7, Vista, XP) , with only interment luck.
I got to Samsung Level 2 support, at 2pm EST, I was his first G-Nex call. We tried the Samsung driver, updating WMP to v11 on XP. Best I got was it to open sometimes (best after a GNex Reboot or after almost shutting it down: ie. holding power button in ant hitting back arrow). It opens best on my Vista PC (one I hardly use...); Sometimes I open it and get no further than the device level (GALAXY NEXUS); if Internal Storage eventually shows up, you may be able to get in; then you MAY be able to transfer files to the folders.
I got a call back from SAMSUNG Level 2 today: "THERE IS A KNOW ISSUE IN THE MTP LAYER OF THE PHONE; THERE ARE ISOLATED CASES OF PROBLEMS LIKE YOURS; SAMSUNG & GOOGLE ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE AND ISSUE A MAINTENANCE RELEASE". (As close as I can quote this.) No, there was no estimate of WHEN this would be released, but I'm hoping soon, as it is a pain and major issue for us "isolated" cases - why me?
I found that MTP does not work correctly on winxp without Windows Media Player 11. It appears to work kinda with WMP10, but not the way you would expect.
Fix
I was pulling my hair out trying to get my new verizon galaxy nexus connected to my pc running windows xp to transfer files. Finally I figured out what the problem was for me.
MTP is tied to windows media player somehow and you need to have the new version of windows media player installed for it to work. Until I did this I was getting an error when a plugged in my phone about the required files not found in the INF file or something.
1. download new version of windows media player.
2. You need to download the samsung USB drivers from samsungs website...I would post the link but I am not allowed.
make sure you click the tab for software...it defaults to manuals and doesn;t look much like a tab at all. After that mine worked beautifully although the MTP transfers seem extremely slow compared to the USB mass storage connection my droid 2 had.
Hope this helps someone else out there!
Hi there! I just bought the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I'm trying to connect the phone to my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion OSX so I can transfer my files and such and also access the SD card. On my previous phone, (HTC Sensation 4G), all I had to do was just connect it to the usb cable and I'll see my phone accessible on finder. This is not my case for the Note 2 right now. I even installed Android File Transfer and it still doesn't work. Android File Transfer reports, "Could not connect to device. Try reconnecting or restarting the device". And of course I tried all of that. The only thing that works is the Kies software from Samsung but the software is incredibly slow. It is telling me that it will take 10 hours to transfer a 125MB file. It doesn't make any sense at all. I'm running a maxed out MacBook Pro Retina Display and I got a spankin new phone using it's provided usb cable and I tried others. My only option to transfer files fast to my SD card is by taking it out physically and connecting it to my SD Card adapter
Please help! Thanks in advance

I've always had trouble with Android File Transfer and all my Samsung phones on my MacBook Pro. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I avoid using it as much as possible now and just use AirDroid (which is slow and very similar to the Kies software) or I just remove the SD card and transfer files using an SD card adapter. I haven't found a fix or workaround to get it working properly.

Please, don't give me that "PC vs MAC" crap I have both PC and MAC and reasons why I use both operating systems. And from using Mac & PC for the past 7 years for the work that I do, Mac OS X has been by far the most reliable operating system that I've ever used. On top of that, I do a lot of radio mixing work and DJing and graphical designing and such and Mac is a must. I've had a Windows laptop before gave me nothing but issues whatsoever. I spend a lot of money buying expensive and top of the line Windows laptops and I always have to worry about maintaining the damn thing and went through a lot of stress because of it. So I'm happy with what I have. But on a side note, I find the iPhone to be the crappiest phone on the planet and I have a Dell XPS for gaming and as a multimedia box. So I hope that justifies that I'm not an apple fan boy.
I did install drivers and yes I had USB debug checked.
Anyways I found a solution for Mac users. I have VMware running Windows 7 & Windows 8. I have both operating systems connected and running seamlessly with the my Mac files so I'll be able to access and edit files that would be on my Mac on my virtual operating systems. And that was a fix for me without having to transfer any music, pictures, etc to a different PC and then transfer the files to my phone. Although it requires virtualization, it's the only thing that worked for me. I still wish there was better compatibility. I had no issues with my old HTC HD2 and HTC Sensation 4G. Samsung really got me angry about this one and their Kies software is complete crap.
Hello, I've been looking for two way syncing app between the PC and my Note 10.1 2014 to backup my Lecturenotes files.
I'm running the CheetahSync for an hour now and it write down "Analyzing computer folder", I believe it's too long.
i've tried to define new rule on my windows 8.1 firewall, restarting both the tablet and pc, and it's still doesn't work.
I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to make it work.
Thank you, Ziv.

I have used Cheetah on my devices since it came out. I am on Win7 and I have only done I way syncs, and it works for me.
Have you tried a one way sync (in first, just to see that you can
I would try a one way sync of a small folder from the note to the pc, then a one way sync from the pc to the note, then try the two way sync.
If it is still failing, I would email jrt. They were quite helpful when I was having issues.
Hello guys, I hope I can get some help over here.
When I received my galaxy tab pro 12.2, my galaxy tab pro 12.2 can't be connected to any usb device nor the pc's usb port. The last time I remember I plugged my tablet to the pc and transfered files to it was like 1 and a half months ago, then I updated my tablet, then last week (I had no need to connect my tablet to my pc until last week) I needed to transfer some files to my tablet but it didn't work, I don't get the typical sound Windows makes when you plug in a device, it doesn't appear on the device manager, I tried it on 3 different laptops and it still didnt work, on my tablet I only get a red cross on the battery sign at the top right of the screen, I tried to connect it also with an mlh adapter to the TV, and no success so far.
Has anybody else had that problem?
Hi all,
Quietly going out of my mind with this one, your help would be muchly appreciated
Recently got myself a Note 4, and my previous device was the Note 2.
I shot some video of my new Ingress phone/battery charger as it was charging my Note 4 using the Note 2 to film it. After making a 3 second clip I plugged the Note 2 into my PC and it wouldn't come up in My Computer
I checked Device Manager and it was listed in "Other Devices" and I checked Drivers and it says no device drivers were installed? Its strange because the Note 2 has been my phone for years, and I used it to plug into the same PC for those years and it always recognized the device ...
I plugged my Note 4 into the PC and straight away it pops up in My Computer, I unplug the Note 4, plug in the Note 2 and nothing. Again in Device Manager its listed as Other Devices.
I haven't changed any drivers, the Note 2 was recognized in the PC only 2 days ago when I transfered some photos. All of a sudden without any changes to the PC or the Note 2 windows won't recognize it anymore and says it doesn't have drivers.
I point Windows to the drivers C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers and windows says it could not find the driver software for the device? It was working fine 2 days ago?
So I uninstall the Samsung USB drivers, reboot PC, go online find the latest Samsung drivers, install, plug in the Note 2 and BINGO! there she is
Grab the video clip, blah blah, disconnect the device from the USB and forget about it. A bit later I plug in my Note 4, it pops up in My Computer as normal, transfer some mp3s for tomorrows journey to work, and its all good.
Then what would be about 2 hours ago, I plug in the Note 2 (the same Note 2 that was working perfectly earlier) and again, nothing in My Computer. I go to device manager and its listed in Other Devices again :crying:
So I did the whole process over again. Uninstall drivers, reboot, install drivers, plug in Note 2, there she is, unplug Note 2, plug in Note 4, unplug Note 4, plug in Note 2 and its no longer recognized ...
Please please before I lose my mind can someone help me?
On a lighter note <--Pun intended. My wife says my Note 2 is jealous and broken hearted because I dumped her for the Note 4, so she's paying me back
5 days and not a single reply?
I have sometimes similiar situation with win 7, but when i connect usb or sd card windows doesnn't see it at all. I tried everything, even format and fresh install of OS, but still the same. I believe some mainboards and OS itself is not meant to work together.
Try different PC, install only Kies 3 and see if the situation persists.
You can also try to uninstall it properly with revo uninstaller, then restart, install Kies and plug.
In settings you use MTP connection on both Notes? USB debugging changes anything?
PS
That's why I don't like Win 8, it's like iOS, you can't change a thing
