[Q] CheetahSync analyzing computer folder for too long - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hello, I've been looking for two way syncing app between the PC and my Note 10.1 2014 to backup my Lecturenotes files.
I'm running the CheetahSync for an hour now and it write down "Analyzing computer folder", I believe it's too long.
i've tried to define new rule on my windows 8.1 firewall, restarting both the tablet and pc, and it's still doesn't work.
I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to make it work.
Thank you, Ziv.

I have used Cheetah on my devices since it came out. I am on Win7 and I have only done I way syncs, and it works for me.
Have you tried a one way sync (in first, just to see that you can
I would try a one way sync of a small folder from the note to the pc, then a one way sync from the pc to the note, then try the two way sync.
If it is still failing, I would email jrt. They were quite helpful when I was having issues.

Manila refuses to load automatically...?

Hi. I'm running a TouchFLO 3.0 ROM tp2 from Tmobile. Recently, without reasonable cause, manila stopped launching on soft reset. The ONLY way I can get it to load every time I soft reset is opening file explorer, going to the windows folder [which takes a good 3 minutes to load], and launching manila.exe. I haven't added or removed any programs in over 2 weeks, and it started today. Any one have any ideas besides backing up and hard resetting?
EDIT: Everything's running sluggish too.
EDIT x2: And after manually launching manilla, I'm missing my task manager button in the upper right.
sounds like as good of a reason as any to back up your contacts etc and do a hard reset. Especially if the phones being sluggish
It won't connect through ActiveSync. How do I back up all that stuff?
either use PIM backup or Microsoft MyPhone
Those would both involve me connecting to the device to install the cab. Maybe someone could tell me why all of a sudden I can't connect to the device as well? It's almost like my device has a functionality virus. -.- There's never been a huge problem connecting before, but now it absolutely refuses. I keep getting the "To connect to this device, you need to have ActiveSync 4.5 installed" message, when I blatantly am running 4.5.

Think outside the box...use the phones wireless connection to do it or use bluetooth to connect with activesynch. This is an internet phone after all.

How? I really have no idea.
EDIT: Nevermind. Emailing it to myself. Will it need to be connected to use PIMbackup or MyPhone?
use myphone... it can back up everything you need and stores it online... you can download the cab from the marketplace right on your phone. It uses your windows live account.
That said.. you can also transfer stuff on and off your sd card right to your computer no? By taking the card out and physically putting it in a memory card reader.
Myphone uses the data or wifi connection to back everything up. Pim doesn't just backs it all up to your sd card. Regardless I can only recommend what I myself use which is outlook or myphone and since outlook is a no go since you cant connect it via activsync for some reason I guess myphone is what I recommend.
good luck
Thanks for the help guys. All went well.

Kies is worse than Itunes

To be honest the thing that lets my Galaxy S down is this awful Kies software...
is terribly hit and miss, 99% cant connect with my 64Bit windows 7 machine, luckily I have a 32 bit desktop and it seems better at connecting with this, but it crashes out, is clunky and slow....please tell me there is an alternative.
I thought I hated Itunes, but this it terrible
itunes is not that bad as you get used to it...
but KIES? well... KIES is just.. stupid.. I don't even install it, just the drivers.
Don't like it, dont use it.
I use Nokia's Ovi music player for music management.
How else can you sync with your outlook then ?
You can't really compare Kies with iTunes. I dislike iTunes, but applaud Apple in creating a program that just holds everything together. So much that none of their devices will work without connecting to it (imagine if Kies worked like that? The horror!).
Kies on the other hand is an annoying program. I actually liked it, well designed, it's got those nifty widgets, BUT it does not work most of the time.
I'm on Win7 64bit as well and it is so annoying.

sync over broadband
I use gsyncit on my PC to sync Outlook with Google calendar and contacts and let the phone sync via the cloud.
but the great thing is you don't need Kies,
you can easily drag and drop music/video files to your phone
and your email/contacts/calendar syncs wirelessly to & from Gmail
and if you need to flash the phone, there is always Odin and Heimdall

I don´t understand what the guys from Samsung where thinking about the development of Kies. For me it is completely useless. To sync my contacts and calender i have Gmail and never had any problem with it.
But with Kies... i have it installed on Windows 7 64Bit and to get it connected i have to restart the phone or the computer, otherwise it won´t do anything.
So yesterday i tried to set it up in Vista 32Bit and there it even wasn´t possible to install. No error or something showed up. Just hanged when it copied the files... Don´t remember any Setup that hanged on my computer. But well, i just don´t use it. Mass storage is all i need.
I don't think I've used Kies for anything so far, can't stand the thing. It used to start up whenever I plugged my phone in even when I told it not to, got it sorted eventually though.

Second this
and also agree with the topic.
Kies is really worse than Itune. luckily we have a very good solution "just don't use it "
Kies is a total POS software. Dont bother with it at all.
Yea compare to nokia pc suit. kies is just simply crap!
i use iTuneMyWalkman with iTunes. It automatically syncs the playlist you want or all the library with your phone when its connected, its free and works perfectly.. just in case, i use a macbook
I believe all original syncing software from all brands is crap.
The basic difference here with itunes (in my opinion) is that without itunes you can do nothing to iphone.
for kies on the other hand I cannot find any other use than updating your phone's firmware. (If you want to update to the original firmware.)
Syncing can be done with gmail from within the phone.
I don't seem to have a problem with it. It connects to my phone just fine (Windows 7 64b) and it has some nice little features.
Just make sure that you delete all USB drivers and phone drivers on your computer and once you do that, reinstall all drivers by connecting your phone while it's booting, starting up, and while fully on. Once all those are ok, download some Samsung Galaxy S drivers online.
Works flawlessly for me.
use Android Manager instad of KIES
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765081
if it's just the music and media management you're rambling about, forget KIES.
WMP12 works wonders with music sync. I've set it to sync my playlists automatically when I connect my Galaxy. The best part? Playlists are copied over to the phone as well. You can use WMP12 to manage photos and videos to, but I really only use it for music.
Videos? Simple - drag and drop.
Contacts and calendar? Set it it to sync automatically to you Gmail account.
Well...
Nokia PC suit was replaced with OVI suite... that simply blows...
iTunes is simply a memory leak application (does it do anything else?)
So besides nokia pc suite I find Kies decent...
Kies is crap... Then again, all of the 'official' phone software I've seen is crap (sony ericsson, nokia). Most of it is bloated, slow and just not worth it. iTunes is crap as well, always hated it and prolly always will.
Luckily you don't need Kies, you can transfer files etc just fine without it.

[Q] TP2 wont sync with WMDC on Windows 7

I really dont know why for the last two years Microsoft hasn't done anything for this very known issue. It seems they want all of us to use Microsoft My Phone service and put all out private data online.
The problem I am having is the following:
I am plugging my phone to the usb port using the original cable and if it detects the phone it will start syncing ...but this syncing will not actually start. The progress bar does not move.
Initially and for a couple of times after it synced fine. But then I got into this situation.
Of course like most of you know if I delete the partnership and make a new one it will work. But then what is the meaning of collecting data on TP2 when they will be deleted after making a new partnership....so there is no purpose of trying to sync if I have to make new partnerships once a while.
I have been trying aaaaalllllll the solutions mentioned in dozens of forums
ie:
unchecked faster data synchronization
checked if the right services are running
followed this procedure also [TUT] Dummies guide: updating HTC USB Sync Drivers
Checked my firewall settings, also disabled the firewall during sync.
disable third party firewalls and anti viruses
I have windows 7 ultimate 32bit, WMDC latest, and WM 6.5
I wish I could be proven wrong but I am sure that there is no solution to this problem. A 400euro operating system and a 500euro phone can not exchange information.
I have exactly the same problem (TP2 but running x64 windows 7). Did you manage to find any solution? Anybody?

Start > Settings > Connections > USBtoPC
Uncheck "Enable faster data synchronization."
It works just fine for me on W7 Pro x64.
If that still isn't working, consider switching to a different sync option, like BirdieSync and Thunderbird. That's what I use normally. The only caveat is that you need to set up a new partnership each time you flash, which is the same on WMDC anyway, so not really a big deal.

Sorry, I don't have a solution. I'm writing to say that I sync mine all the time with Win7 Pro x64, no problems at all.
I had a problem one time, and deleting the partnerships on the phone fixed it. Note that I do not sync emails or files; I don't use outlook for emails, only contacts and scheduling.
Have you tried doing a hard reset and then syncing the phone before you install anything else on the device?
I switched to 32 bit windows 7 and everything is ok now.
the only sync I can not do is through bluetooth.
the phone is freezing

Perhaps the device itself is failing, then. If you are only able to sync with bluetooth, then it would seem likely that you would have a faulty USB port on the phone. Have you tried doing this with the stock ROM?
Win 7 64 bit
HTC TP2
Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC)
I was just about to ask a question about the same problem, but I see a thread is started already.
I just built a new machine, and when I first plugged the phone in, everything worked great. WMDC recognized the phone, loaded the drivers, and it sync'ed with Outlook 10. Everyone was happy.
The next day when I plugged my phone in, Windows Mobile Device Center does not even recognize that the phone is plugged in. WMDC shows not connected, I don't get the little "ding" when it connects/disconnects, and it doesn't show up as anything under "computer" when I click on the libraries folder.
The ONLY solution I have found is doing a soft reset on my phone. When I do that, it sync's. But as soon as I disconnect it and reconnect it, I get the problem as described above.
I haven't done ANYTHING to try to troubleshoot this problem other than uncheck that box on the phone that allows the phone to fast sync. Any advice appreciated.

Yes I have tried that Im using Vista. Thing is the HTC do come up with progress bar on the phone. Way to weird and frustrating.
Now everthing is connected and its only when the tri colors on phone comes everthing disconnects then the HTC emblem is there showing progress as zero.
When I'm in the WMDC and setting up a partnership should I check any of the options.

Like many others I have not been able to sync my HTC TP2 with my new Windows 7 64 bit computer.
I found a fix that worked for me. After many attempts to sync my phone and WMDC showing me it is connected, but at the same time show an error icon with no explanation, I thought I would do a manual Windows update to ensure I had all the drivers needed. After going to START> CONTROL PANEL> REVIEW YOUR COMPUTERS STATUS....I noticed I had an message that said there was an update for my Pocket PC. I downloaded it and it was an file called "drvupdate-amd64.exe".
I connected my phone by a usb cable to my laptop and selected RUN on the above file after downloading it to my desktop. It showed a status that was updating a generic driver and one other drive.......then WAMO, WMDC opened and my HTC TP2 showed it was connected and started to Sync. YEHAW!

[Q] Galaxy Nexus MTP driver issues in Windows XP

Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone can help with this problem?
,
I'm having trouble hooking it up to my PC which is running XP.
When I chose to connect as either "Media Device MTP" or "Camera PTP" I get an error message on the taskbar of my PC:
"USB device Not Recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned , and Windos does not recognise it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
I click the message and get taken to the list of USB devices with one in bold stating "Unknown device", I click on it and try to update the drivers etc but PC is unable to instal newer drivers.
I think I've narrowed this down to an MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) driver not being installed on the PC, so have installed Windows media player 11, Kies, Samsung PC Studio 7, tried searching the net for drivers, even tried installing Galaxy S2 drivers and none of them work.
Does anyone know what else I may be able to try, or can someone tell me where I could get the correct driver as this is starting to drive me nuts...
PS. I have hooked up the Nexus to my work PC (running Vista) and was recognised withing seconds, so is not a faulty phone
Thanks in advaance for you help!!

Hah, you posted what I managed to resist writing. I thought to myself 'someone's bound to bring that up'... Right on time!
Just get WiFi file explorer PRO and sync through wifi...but I'm quite sure that you can get MTP to work on winXP.
Can't really help you with the Galaxy Nexus since mine hasn't arrived yet but for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 I didn't install any driver (honeycomb also only understands MTP). I let windows install all the drives automatically, had to restart a couple of times but in the end I had a working connection with no Samsung crap like Kies installed.

I've got this as the work around at the moment, but finding it a bit laborious having to transfer one file at a time.
Finding that Samsung website is quite useless - only has the User guide as downloadable PDF.
Microsoft website is even less helpful...!

You can transfer as many files as you like....up.
And to be honest you can also try using an FTP server, it works very well and then you can browse your phone easily.

I thought I was getting there after installing WMP 11 as I got a message stating "Galaxy" when I connected the USB cable, but it still didn't work fully.

with music for eg. I'm having to do one track at a time?
Will look at the FTP servers now, any recommendations?

Sorry no, it was something worse, Vista.
If you got xp to recognize it as "Galaxy" you should be on the right track. I remember that being the first device in Vista too. The auto update feature installed various Samsung updates, always after the device couldn't be started and almost all of them required a restart. But about five of these updates (and restarts...) later it connected correctly. No Samsung software necessary.
Don't know if that was dumb luck but I'm not complaining.
I have missing MTP driver on my WIndows XP laptop for work (I use Win 7 at home) is there any solution to this yet?
Try this.
It will install the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit (MTP drivers) on Windows xp and should allow the device to be recognised.
I uploaded the file (which I downloaded directly from Microsoft) so you dont have to validate first. Download it *HERE* and install.
Let me know if it works for Windows xp and I will add it to my fixes section im writing.
Mark.
Thanks, Mark,
I did find and download that file earlier but it didnt work. However, as my work laptop is subject to Group Policy, it may still work for others. I do have local admin rights on my machine so I wouldnt have thought it would be a problem but we always get quirks with our corporate builds.
I have found other references on the net to a file from Creative called "fixup.zip" which apparently includes the MTP drivers (tweaked to also allow recognition of creative devices) but I cant find anywhere to download it from.
after a little searching with Google i found the answer
so my laptop runs XP (because i shoot tethered to my Canon Camera and i know it works) and i use the laptop to sync my phones (also collects my e-mail etc) and i stumbled on this thread when i was searching for a solution as to why MTP failed to install with my new Nexus..
the solution is
to install Windows Media Player 10! once i did that, BAM! i can see my Nexus in the explorer window with the rest of my drives

New "known issue" - samsung!
I had issues trying to get the device working on 3 computers yesterday (Win 7, Vista, XP) , with only interment luck.
I got to Samsung Level 2 support, at 2pm EST, I was his first G-Nex call. We tried the Samsung driver, updating WMP to v11 on XP. Best I got was it to open sometimes (best after a GNex Reboot or after almost shutting it down: ie. holding power button in ant hitting back arrow). It opens best on my Vista PC (one I hardly use...); Sometimes I open it and get no further than the device level (GALAXY NEXUS); if Internal Storage eventually shows up, you may be able to get in; then you MAY be able to transfer files to the folders.
I got a call back from SAMSUNG Level 2 today: "THERE IS A KNOW ISSUE IN THE MTP LAYER OF THE PHONE; THERE ARE ISOLATED CASES OF PROBLEMS LIKE YOURS; SAMSUNG & GOOGLE ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE AND ISSUE A MAINTENANCE RELEASE". (As close as I can quote this.) No, there was no estimate of WHEN this would be released, but I'm hoping soon, as it is a pain and major issue for us "isolated" cases - why me?
I found that MTP does not work correctly on winxp without Windows Media Player 11. It appears to work kinda with WMP10, but not the way you would expect.
Fix
I was pulling my hair out trying to get my new verizon galaxy nexus connected to my pc running windows xp to transfer files. Finally I figured out what the problem was for me.
MTP is tied to windows media player somehow and you need to have the new version of windows media player installed for it to work. Until I did this I was getting an error when a plugged in my phone about the required files not found in the INF file or something.
1. download new version of windows media player.
2. You need to download the samsung USB drivers from samsungs website...I would post the link but I am not allowed.
make sure you click the tab for software...it defaults to manuals and doesn;t look much like a tab at all. After that mine worked beautifully although the MTP transfers seem extremely slow compared to the USB mass storage connection my droid 2 had.
Hope this helps someone else out there!

[Q] Link/Sync two Note tablets

I use my Note for studies and have gotten rid of all paper and almost all books. I'm thinking of buying a Note 12.2 in addition to my 10.1. I could read something on the one and take notes on the other tablet.
I would like to have both synced up, so it doesn't feel like I have two devices and I have to manually transfer files all the time. All apps and settings, all files should sync preferably via bluetooth or a usb cable. So basically I would like both devices to be the same at any given time. I kinda want to have the feeling of having multiple monitors on a desktop pc. If you could move app windows between two devices that would be the best.
Datasync seems like it could do what I need.
Does anyone have experience using multiple devices? Is it a good idea? That is double the cost when it comes to upgrading, I'm not quite sure yet if it's worth it.

I have had great success with Dropsync.... syncs between my various android devices. Uses regular dropbox account.
EXCEPT that last night my Note 10.1 upgraded to Kitkat and since then it will not establish a sync. It recognizes the device folder, but cannot load folders from dropbox. I'm stumped. Tried a lot of things and finally have an e-mail into the developer.

Would like to resurrect this thread without starting a new one. Maybe I am not searching for the answer correctly.
I am having an issue getting my S Notes to sync between my Note 3 and the 10.1. I can make edits ok and choose to sync with Evernote but the changes do not replicate on the other device. The problem occurs both ways.
I know I don't use S Note as heavily as some but it is a very handy app. Just want to be able to use both devices with somewhat of a real time sync.
Any ideas out there?
You need dropsync.
