Google does slow rollouts to monitor the update process and prevent the chances of a critical flaw from affecting everyone. Some folks may not receive an update for several weeks.

June 20th update

So Monday I guess there is like a bug fix update to fix the netflix and phantom voice mail that most of us got with the gingerbread update. It annoyed me so much that I switched Roms and am loving my MikG 1.03 Rom. So I do want the netflix back. Will it show up as an ota update on custom Rom or do I wait and get it after someone has posted it as a zip or something.

I'm sure it'll be an OTA but you might as well wait for the rooted version to prevent an un-rootable situation.

I second that...avoid the OTA and the bloatware that comes with it
Those of us who remember the 2.2 OTA fiasco and the days of waiting some users had to do before it could be rooted will know that taking an OTA is, potentially, a trap. Most of the time, not so much, and maybe not even intentionally, but we all know it's possible.
Don't be a lemming. And certainly don't be the first lemming off the cliff.

2.2? The 2.3 update was just as bad, perhaps worse.
And yes, don't take the official OTA, wait for a rooted version of it.

Unlikely. Their announcement was for all newly released devices from that point forward.
I just didn't know if it was going to be a simple tweak or if it would replace the whole operating system. I avoided the gingerbread OTA update so will be doing the same on Monday. Hopefully Tuesday I will be running netflix again.

Next OTA in November?

I heard from somewhere (but don't remember where) that T-Mobile will be issuing an OTA update some time November to open up the wifi calling feature, is that right? Can someone confirm that?
Also, will that OTA be making an update to the existing firmware or will it be completely wiping out the existing system and flashing a brand new one?
Reason I ask is because I'd very much like to keep the root that I have right now with the "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper" app written by supercurio, but that app is only going to work if the OTA is an update, not a complete override.
a bit early, considering the phone just came out less than a month ago...
the next OTA will most likely be ICE 4.0
my guess Feb 2012
There is an update coming I think Nov 16 or something like that to bring us WIFI calling, but that's it for now.
This phone is a Beast..
i thought it was november 11
The 13th was what was quoted in earlier post as far as I can remember. Who really knows though. Should be coming soon though.
i don't count that OTA as an actual update, it's rather an OTA app install
similar to what we can do from Android Market web to install apps to our phones
just this is Tmo sending the app to our phones via OTA

I also read that its the 13th. I at least hope that Samsung would fix the lockscreen issue that a few user are facing. Luckily since I've been rooted on custom roms this hasn't happened to me. Although it did on the stock unrooted rom.

the update on the 13 is only for the WiFi calling app AFAIK
they might include some other bug fix, but i doubt they will have anything for the screen optimization
Oopps, yeah I meant the 13th. Lol.

Thanks guys. We'll see how it goes. See what's in there and whether I can preserve root after it.

GNEX google calendar.

Hi,
I have a problem in google calendar, it does not show the event on the widget when the event is scheduled for the entire day.
Hoping that google will fix this bug soon.
It's a confirmed bug up to 4.0.3 I've read.

That is a known issue . It was fixed in 4.0.3. If you are GSM then you'll get it in the next OTA.

Seeing as though Google hasn't finished rolling out 4.0.2 I wouldn't advise holding your breath.

Not necessarily. They might skip over 4.0.2 for the devices that haven't received it yet.
For now I'm using Business Calendar from the Market to get around the sick calendar bugs - for me the worst is the truncated calendar descriptions. Hoping for a fix soon.

So when should we see the updates rolling?

I know it's a stage update as usual but, does anyone know when Google will start sending the update to people? Are there people that might have received it?

The rollout will probably happen when Google officially announces Android KitKat. I believe this will happen within the next week. In the meantime, I suggest we all wait patiently as there isn't enough difference between 4.3 and 4.4 as to warrant throwing a riot.

There are some differences... under the hood and UI, but yeah, people are getting too impatient about it... they need to relax, chill, and wait patiently till Google makes it official.

I am guessing Nexus start getting it next week, Already restored mine back to completely stock(except it is still unlocked) to wait for the 4.4 OTA.
Well, as long as they push out the update soon so we can then start whining about when 5.0 will come.

It was official yesterday. Google took to their blog to announce both 4.4 & the Nexus 5. In fact my Nexus 5 will be in hand either tomorrow or Monday as it shipped last night. I don't think it gets more official than that. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2013/10/android-for-all-and-new-nexus-5.html

Do we have the official update for the Nexus 7? I don't have a Nexus 5, I have the Nexus 7, hence I'll wait till the official OTA rolls out. 4.4 may have come out with the Nexus 5 but not for me Nexus 7. And you sir are right, I apologize for not specifying what I meant, thanks for the info.

I don't seem to recall saying this was a minor update. I said that the difference wasn't drastic enough to warrant throwing a riot over. There are some minor UI adjustments, some under-the-hood adjustments, and a hidden feature that enables a new JIT compiler that will probably replace Dalvik at some point. The new JIT does break the emulator though and that is why it is hidden in developer options. This is by no means a small release but it's not like we're stuck on Gingerbread still. From some of the people around here, you would think that JB is worthless and unusable now that 4.4 source is out.
Also, before you call someone out for posting incorrect info, make sure that their post actually contains incorrect info.
4.4 till 15 Nov confirmed

Most likely, they'll start pushing it on Monday to some English-language devices. If those don't blow up, everyone else will get it once they finish translating 4.4 to all other languages, probably within a week or two. Be patient :fingers-crossed:
(I tried the Nexus 5 dump apks posted by droidlife, and they had a few untranslated strings in Norwegian)

I'm using the current 4.4 build. The ROM itself is running extremely smooth. However, if you choose to flash I STRONGLY suggest that before initial boot, you make sure to hit "Yes" next to the message that says to disable auto-recovery flash or whatever it is. This prevents the ROM from overriding your custom recovery with the stock one. I accidentally hit one of the 10 "No" options and now I cannot boot into recovery and ADB/Fastboot pushing a custom recovery doesn't work.
I'm sure I could just revert back to the 4.3 factory image and start again but I don't think it's worth the hassle since the ROM is working perfectly. So for now I am using the 4.4 ROM as is and just waiting for the factory image to come out so I can Fastboot flash that and start on a clean slate.
But again, the ROM is definitely smooth and worth flashing. I'm loving it.

New Update

I am already on KK 4.4.2, but this morning I woke up and looked at my phone and the screen was on with a system message that the "Updated was completed successfully". However, there was no other info on what update was applied. Anyone else just get some kind of update? Not sure if it was firmware, or just some software update. It certainly didn't affect the KK version as that is all still listed as being the same.

No it wasn't an app update. It was a system message popup like you get when a service force closes or a new OS update is ready to be installed.
Profile update maybe? Sprint RDF site is still at ZVC so I doubt it was a firmware update. I mean I could be wrong and it could be a limited test and you could have been a lucky winner.

That's possible. I can't seem to find what was updated so maybe it was just some profile update or something similar, Maybe some updates to Sprint services they pushed out. Not sure at this point. Typically I only get the system update pop up when it's something like a firmware/profile/etc type of update. Normal app updates just show up in the status bar and don't give me a system pop up.
I just wish I knew what it was for.

It was indeed a PRL update. I had it pushed to my phone last night. The weird thing tho is I do not believe the PRL update number changed at all. My PRL is now 51100. I thought thats what it was before. I know it was a PRL update cause I had my phone in my hands when it happend and it said prl update completed.

In one of the threads in the Sprint Forums.
Normally reps beat around the Bush, but in one of the threads complaining signal quality, a rep said May 31.
I'm guessing it's for the 3G/4G switching issues, and there was no mention of Knock Code though.
Yeah, um... never ... and I mean ever.... listen to service reps... lol.
There are numerous bugs since 4.4.2 released. Bluetooth reporting battery drain when off, LG backup is buggy, auto brightness still crappy, and.some other things.
The 3g/4g switching issues are network related. You can get all the updates in the world and until the network updates are finished its just something we have to live with. They could certainly disable band 26 and 41 on phones that dont have it in their area yet but we can do that ourselves so sprint wont bother.
