I have a HTC Universal (Qtek 9000) device.
In an attempt to do an upgrade to bootloader v1.01, I kept getting a connection error. Apparently even while I got this error, the upgrade still managed to get my device stuck in bootloader screen
Luckily, my pc still recognizes my device when I connect it on USB. So I'm following the steps described on Wiki to solve the problem.
I disabled USB connection in WMDC, removed Sim & SD cards from the Universal, and connected it without any USB hub, or even any other USB devices connected at all. Windows installs drivers succesfully, but right after it the MS USB Sync icon disappears.
Mtty doesn't list the USB port in the ports list, and UNI_ExitBootloader gives an error "Cannot open USB port".
I tried all ports of my pc, and tried another cable too. The device indicates "USB" in the bootlader screen so it recognizes being connected.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem here?
Or better... what I can try to fix it

Try to reflash on windows XP, not Vista
Hope it helps,
That did help indeed, thanks!
Don't know what Vista does to my USB ports (and probably don't wanna know), but a XP VM did the trick already
My Universal is fully operational again.
Dear Sirs;
Maybe this part of forum not be the proper place for my question but I don't know the poeple more expert than XDA masters.
Since last monday, computer cant recognize my Diamond when I connect it by USB cable and "USB device not recognized" appears. I will be really appreciated if you kindly help me.
Best Regards
Dariush Chegini
Try reinstalling Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center.
First remove Active Sync/ WMDC, restart PC and than install Active Sync/ WMDC.
Thanks for your kind attention. I reinstalled Activesync...no change, computer can't recognize the Diamond. My Diamond charges with both charger and computer, USB headphone works but PC can't recognize it....
I'm so confused and will be really appreciated if XDA masters help me.
Best Regards
XP or Vista or Windows 7 or which OS?
I've tried by both WIN XP and Vista.
could be a few possibilities for XP atleast...
activesync - file->connection settings->allow usb connections checked
faulty cable, try another one
faulty port on computer, try another one
driver issue - a difficult one...
i had this on my xp, found out there's something wrong with the cable - phone charging fine via computer USB, but XP says it doesn't recognize the device so doesn't connect to activesync....
good luck
Try on your Diamond -
Start>Settings>USB to PC
Unchek "Enable faster data synchronization"
If none of the above solutions work, maybe a hard reset...
I tried another cables, all options in "USB to PC", Activesync options, hardreset, even install other ROM but PC still can't recognize the Diamond.
It seems to be a Hardware problem but Diamond can be charged by USB and USB headphone works properly... I'm so confused .
Thanks Millions
Dariush

Try this in order...
1. Connect diamond to pc - it should at least charge as your say, but not detect Activsync
2. Goto Settings > Connections > USB to PC
3. Check Allow USB Connections > Uncheck allow fast data sync...
Does it connect?
if not and if you are using Vista
1. goto Windows Mobile device Center
2. check the attached image to see you have the same settings...
Does it connect?
if still not, then it could be driver issues, which I can suggest, once you reply to the above...
Thanx for your attentions. I've tried uncheking the said bottom but no change.
I used to connect the Diamond to the same notebook without any problem for more than 16 months, but the damn notebook stop recognizing my Diamond these days .
Thanks Millions
Dariush
may be usb port on your computer is malfunction. Did u try different usb port?
You need to open device manager in control panel to see how you diamond is listed.
Ever since i started with a new company 3 years ago they have some software that prevents activesync from connecting to any device I have from their computers using USB.
I went Bluetooth method and all is fine. I just use the USB for large, direct file transfer to internal storage.
If you get issues with activesync and usb and can take ages to resolve (if possible).
I guy's.
After a lot of search in this forum and a lot of other forum's, i came to this threat.
I had the same problem, my diamond didn't connect to my pc.
I had tried all the different suggestion, and nothing seemed to work. until i read the post of cloudedhopes, that suggested to change the usb cable. Because it was the only thing that i hadn't tried, i did change the cable, and it worked!
So i'm posting only to thank you guy's for all of the help, given not directly to me, but to all user!

Usually when you connect to PC you get a option on your mobile to chose from several types of connection. Chose the data transfer option.
My phone wont connect when its charged 100%. Maybe you have the same issue.
The phone starts charcing, charging done and it look likes it resets the connection. you hear the usb sound for disconnecting and for connecting again. But when it connects again its start charging, and the same happens again. My solution, i only connect with 90% or less battery.
How To Get Windows 8.1 To Recognise USB Mass Storage On Your Phone
I have had the problem for ages that when I connected my Samsung Galaxy GT-S5360 into my Windows 8.1 PC nothing happened - Windows 8.1 simply refused to recognise the device - not even anything in device manager - nothing - nada
However it would recognise the phone if I set the phone to download mode - but I want to use my phone as mass storage
Well after months of trying I finally found a really stupid solution
Solution
Install the usb drivers for your phone as normal
connect the phone to pc via usb cable (nothing happens other then a few beeps as normal)
now plug in any usb dongle that you have already installed on your pc - like a usb wireless mouse dongle
suddenly windows detects the phone and you can now set your phone to mass storage from the phone status bar
Every time you want to connect your phone in mass storage just plug it in then plug in the other usb dongle after

it maybe the brand of laptop too and the chipset of the laptop - there have been lots of problems with usb devices with windows 8.1 and inbuilt bluetooth too although manufacturers quickly released new bluetooth drivers as the windows 8 ones didnt work in windows 8.1
so this is just for those who have problems with their particular laptop
Similar Issue with Samsung Galaxy S
I had a similar problem when I needed to copy some files onto a Galaxy S. In the past, I had to ensure that USB Debugging was off, connect the USB cable and then select Mass Storage on the smartphone. Win 8.1 Explorer did not see the device although it showed up as SAMSUNG_Android in Eject Media and Device Manager had the phone listed under Universal Serial Device. I was able to access the phone on one laptop by selecting Samsung Kies as the connection method (showed up in Explorer under the device type rather than a drive letter) but this did not work on another laptop.
The steps described in "How to connect Android devices to PC with USB Mass Storage Mode" on device-recovery.com worked for me on both Win 8.1 laptops: enable USB Debugging, connect the phone, pull down the status bar, tap on the USB Connected entry and then Mass Storage.

What you said will not work for this phone because when you plug it into a windows 8.1 laptop the option to select connect to mass storage in status bar is not there - It just shows the phone as charging
The only way iv found on a windows 8.1 laptop with this issue (note it depends on your hardware to weather you have this problem) is to plug the phone into the laptop then plug any other dongle in - the option to then connect to mass storage suddenly appears in the status bar and you can connect as normal
I am trying to back up my phone using Syncios. I have all the options made in Developer Settings/Mode. Phone is Android 10, March update.
On an elderly Windows 7 machine, I get a USB Debugging Authorisation panel on the phone and I accept and connect flawlessly to Syncios.
On a much newer Windows 10 Home laptop, I do not get the panel, so cannot authorise to connect to PC.
Any ideas/tips please??
Since the Android 10 update I can't connect the phone via USB to any of my computers (win10, 7, Ubuntu), also I can't connect it in fastboot, so maybe you get the same bug on your phone.

The phone connects to a W7 computer perfectly well.
It's been a couple of months since I was able to successfully connect phone on Ubuntu or Win10. It's not even showing any notification that it is connected.
My phone works fine with both a Mac (10.11) and PC (Windows 10)... Maybe there's something you can clear data on... Maybe if you click on Revoke USB debugging authorizations?
I normally use wireless adb though. The app Quick Settings gives me a toggle in the notification shade (ADB over LAN) and then I just adb connect IP from the computer. My router assigns a fixed IP and hostname to my phone so it's easy
