Note 7 battery issues already... - Note 7 Questions & Answers

So I go to bed with my phone at about 90% and I wake up to it being at 0%. It shouldn't be like lower than about 85% I'd say. Well I look at the graph of the battery discharge and it is not good. Plummets for no reason then vise versa when I went to charge it it charged really quickly and went to 100% in about 25 or less minutes. Also I haven't received the recall yet so at worst I just go get a new one for free eventually. I am a new user so I can't post links to photos of the graphs. Any ideas on what just happened here?

Turn that sh*t off and throw as far as you can. Lol seriously though return it anyway you can while you wait for the new ones or don't, idk if plan to stick with the note 7 after the return.

Well, under normal conditions I'd chalk this up to an initial battery calibration issue that will work itself out, but considering the recall, I think I'd take this as an early sign of trouble and return the phone immediately.

[UPDATE]
So I plugged it in outside while I was barbecuing and it went to 100% and said it wasn't full. I let it sit there for 2 hours and the green light finally came on. So I suppose it was a calibration issue but I am still returning/replacing it. Samsung really F***ed this one up.

Considering the recall, I recommend you backup whatever's in there, do a factory reset and wait for the recall. Don't take the risk.

Thats odd mine stays at 100 by the time i wake up.mine doesnt drain whatsoever maybe a app you installed. Or if its connected to wifi all night

Sound more like rogue app to me draining battery.
Or maybe just a cry for attention!!
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA-Developers mobile app

Sounds to me like u left porn hub on autoplay while u fell asleep and thats why it drained all the way, only thing that keeps a phone awake is a video your lucky u didnt catch screen burn in... 0% to 100% in 25 mins looks to me they probably included Qualcomm 4.0 charge prototype, you'd be sick to return it..u my friend have the golden ticket, but then again i would return it, Qualcomm 4.0 charge isnt out for a reason its still testing and it wouldnt be right for u to have it and the rest to get screwed

I lose maybe 2 to 5% overnight if that much

Thanks for the feed back. I have discharged it and charged it fully twice and it was just a battery calibration issue. Though once I can I am swapping it out with a new one for free.

[Q] evo won't power on

my brother's evo was working fine early in the morning a couple of days ago and he came back a few hours later and it was completely dead. refuses to take a charge and I've tried troubleshooting it all the way down. I'm at a total loss. I've tried leaving the battery out for 30 minutes and still no dice. I've managed to get it to flash the white evo 4g screen for a second a couple of times. any ideas on next steps?
Leave it on the charger for a few hours, see if that works. If not, the battery got too discharged to receive a charge, in which you just take it to your sprint store and they'll jump the battery.
Ugh. The repair stores are almost an hour away. Thanks for the advice anyway. Does this happen a lot on the evo?

My evo is having the exact same issue! last night it was on my dresser, then I guess the battery died, it went off. when I put it on the charger I get no lights or anything on the phone. I tried to turn it on while on the charger no luck, a few times it flashed the white screen for about 5 secs then cut off. the charger is fine because it charged my wifes evo shift. I left the battery out all night last night and tried to put it in and charge this morning nothing! I am going to try and get another battery from sprint a little later today and I hope that is the only issue, because this thing died out of nowhere!

As previously stated, take battery to Sprint store and have them reinitialize/jump it so it will again take a charge.

Hope your right, on my way out the door now.
Results - Ok good and bad news
Ok so after dropping it off for 2 hours, I go back and my phone is on charged at about 70%. the guy says they did not find anything wrong, they plugged it in and it charged. They also said the battery did not pass some test so they reccommended me get a new battery.
BUT he said they could not check it further because it was rooted. The one thing I was worried about was them finding out it was rooted, but I could not get any power to it, to unroot it. I just hope if something goes wrong and I put the stock ROM back on, they accept it (I hope it does not have to happen)
So I did not have to pay anything, got the phone working again, but they told me they could not find anything wrong, which makes me nervous because it will probably happen again. I know it did not just start working once they plugged it up, because I tried many different ways to charge it, and got nothing. I'm thinking someone jumped the battery like you said, but did not say anything, because I know it was not working for me, I have it charging now on my CPU, which it was not doing before I took it in. but it works so Im cool with that. Just home that root thing does not stay on my file.
That's funny . . . I would not have let them have the phone if I took it in . . next time, go to different store and just hand them the battery . . . as for them knowing about it being rooted, deny, deny, deny . . . hopefully, the battery is ok now . . .
Took it to a sprint store finally and my battery had randomly died. They ordered a replacement that should be in today so I'll let everyone know if that fixes it

Are batteries covered under the warranty that Sprint offers or even under the manufacturer's warranty? It hasn't been a year yet...
My battery started charging again!! I put it in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes, stuck it back on the phone, then it started charging again. After it's fully charged, I'm gonna do a nandroid backup just in case.

Help with my e4gt the battery drains 3hr

Where to begin....my phone would last about 9hr before this issues started happening. For some odd reason my indicator LED light won't shut off I had to download an app to turn it off. When I try to turn of the phone It will automatically turn on again but before it does it goes to the charging screen even thought the phone is not plug to an outlet. It all started happening after I used my friends LG charger i'm thinking maybe I damage something.

Judging by the screenies it looks like the battery is to blame. Those spikes are definetly not normal.

Looks like the phone isn't correctly reading the battery.
However, the symptom of the phone going into charging when off when it's not plugged in (phone thinking it's charging) is pretty common with the Samsung Replenish, and is almost always an indicator of a bad charging port. This could also explain the LED not going out (ie charging). We see it in our store alot. Your battery dying in 3 hours would make sense, as the phone isn't charging the battery correctly in this scenario.

I agree.. it seems to be the charging port on the phone. My wife's phone had a very similar problem. Her screen would turn on by itself, the led light would stay on all day, and battery only lasted about 2 hours. It would always freeze up too once in a while and when you turn it back on, the battery drained like 20% in a span of 5 mins. Her battery stats look very similar to yours, with all the spikes. On top of that, her phone kept going into driving mode or voice talk randomly. Her phone was rooted with the auto root procedure. I wanted to back up her phone with TiB regularly and put on adblock.. but otherwise everything was stock on her phone.
What I ended up doing was a factory reset. That cleared up the freezing issue and the screen turning on and off, but the battery stuff was still acting the same. I did a battery pull over night and cleaned the contacts of the charging port of the phone with a very small q-tip and toothpick. I also cleaned the battery terminals as well for good measure. Put the battery back on the phone and charged to full while the phone was off. First thing I did when I turned on the phone was to download the battery calibrator app and run the calibration. Her phone has been back to normal now for almost 3 weeks.

Are you in a damp/humid area? I know my phone did that sometimes too during humid summer days. It's completely fine in any other condition though, especially during this colder winter.

i'm not in a damp/humid area, my wife and I have the same phone. Mine has been okay with minimal issues. Although now that I think about it, she did spill some water on the table with her phone near by a week before her phone start acting up. She had a TPU case which protected it from most of the water, but maybe some of it got in through the headphone jack or charging port??
to the OP: maybe you can try this battery calibration method as well. Some people have reported success with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312273

OverHeating Issue

I left my phone on the charger all night and when I woke up it was fully charged, but really.. really, hot. I noticed I had one notification which was a text and I know the phone stopped charging, and that shouldn't be the issue. After unplugged it, reset it, and answered the text It cooled down. I had a text just a couple of minutes ago and waited a while to answer it and noticed my phone was getting slightly warmer. Since I responded Its now at a regular temperature. Is it possible my phones overheating from pending notifications? I know that question sounds dumb but this is really bugging me out. Anyone have any advice?
I running ERA Legendary Rom with GetuSum's EI22 ICS theme 2.1 if anyone wanted to know.
Did you leave any apps on plus when you charge your phone Being "ON" it heats up more than if Off

I usually power it off.. because it also charges faster. I had no apps running and even turned off the data connection. I DID however try to install the gta San Andreas app from an "undisclosed" website.. (ehmm 4shart) which was a bad idea since of course it didn't work.. I really hope im not gonna have to end up re-installing this rom and theme, since i just installed it 3 days ago.
what are a couple things that would cause over heating? maybe that can help out.. thanks
If your phone is in use while on the charger... the display being really high the normal things.... that cause overheating like leaveing it clocked at 1500mhz
Sent From My "epic" SPH-D700 via XDA Premium
True, I think my display was on, and it usually is pretty bright. I just charged it again this time while powered off and there was no overheating (woohoo!) I've had this epic for about a year and a half now so I take care of it likes it's child haha...
I appreciate the advice
I noticed my phone got hot when charging (phone is on when I charge) with the EI22 ROMs I used.
I recently installed the stock EL30, rooted it, and installed the Shadow kernel for EL30. Now it always stays cool. Coincidence? Maybe, but I'm happy it's always cool now.
there's possibily charging overnight will make your battery broke inside (see explanation for li ion battery on google)so it easily become overheated when used normally

[Q] Phone dies after ten minute phone call fresh off charger

I am trying to help my uncle who has been having trouble with his T989D phones. He has tried two and is getting frustrated because the phone can die right to shutting itself off very fast. He has said right from taking it off the charger it can be dead in a 10 minute phone call.
This has been the same on two different stock unrooted Telus phones. What could cause this.
The only thing I notice from telephone support is that the phone never goes to sleep. But I am not in a position to be in person and have to talk someone who is so not that computer literate to checking stuff.
I have a better battery stats file but other then never sleeping it isn't from a time when it died in ten minutes.

That is what I have been told though, I just wish I could actually get face time with the phone for a extended time to figure it out but can't.
Bad battery was my first idea before but when it kept happening with the replacement, it has to be something else.
Also apparently the phone stays at 100% for the most part until it dies.

When he gets replacements, is he getting everything? New battery, new charger, and new phone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, but he uses multiple chargers depending on being home or in his truck. The other chargers have been used before on a I9100 with no problems.
These phones seem to be picky with chargers, sometimes. I only use stock that came with it.
Take the phone back again or get a whole different one

This! When you get a replacement phone (in the mail at least) you just get the phone, and have to swap your battery into it (back when I had my Dash replaced I even had to swap the battery cover!) If he is still using the battery from the original phone then that would be the best place to start.

[Q] Nexus 7 turns off

Hello Everyone,
I am a noob on XDA, Please correct me if i have posted in the wrong forum. I bought a new nexus 7 16gb, for some reason when the battery is around 25-30% the tablet turns off itself. Its not shutdown its like pulling the battery of a phone thats on. The only way to start it is by connecting the charger.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I am on the stock rom NOT rooted
Thanks

Have you charged the device to 100% yet? I would do that, leave it charging for an hour after it shows 100% then use it till it dies. Rinse and repeat.

Yes I have charged it 100% multiple times, The only difference is i use a sammy charger that outputs 0.7 amps once in a while. I dont suspect the charging thing to do this.
Are you getting normal use out of a charge? How much screen time in one charge?

Like Highfigh suggested check how long you can run on a full charge. If you get some good hours in then maybe the battery % is not reporting back properly. A reset/restore could possible resolve that issue.
I believe I am getting pretty good charge. I will try once again, I was thinking this might be something with stock rom and hence I posted it online. Thanks every one for the help

exactly the same story here. in my case it's not so easy to turn it on. it would seem like the device is completely discharged, even if it just showed some 40 % battery left. i have to wait several hours to even try to bring it back to recovery mode. very long press does nothing. it happened couple of times already. very annoying with such seemingly superb tablet. i'm not living in the us of a, so no quick replacement for me
That's bad I can turn on mine in a few minutes. Again mine happens very rarely. I also get an excellent battery life. How long does yours go on a charge.
I would also like to know if there is any kind of Logs that we can look at. It's getting irritating, did you try rooting your device to see if that might fix the problem.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I got the same problem recently, I think it was after the last update on the firmware. Everytime the battery reach around 35% it just went off.
