I left my phone on the charger all night and when I woke up it was fully charged, but really.. really, hot. I noticed I had one notification which was a text and I know the phone stopped charging, and that shouldn't be the issue. After unplugged it, reset it, and answered the text It cooled down. I had a text just a couple of minutes ago and waited a while to answer it and noticed my phone was getting slightly warmer. Since I responded Its now at a regular temperature. Is it possible my phones overheating from pending notifications? I know that question sounds dumb but this is really bugging me out. Anyone have any advice?
I running ERA Legendary Rom with GetuSum's EI22 ICS theme 2.1 if anyone wanted to know.
Did you leave any apps on plus when you charge your phone Being "ON" it heats up more than if Off

I usually power it off.. because it also charges faster. I had no apps running and even turned off the data connection. I DID however try to install the gta San Andreas app from an "undisclosed" website.. (ehmm 4shart) which was a bad idea since of course it didn't work.. I really hope im not gonna have to end up re-installing this rom and theme, since i just installed it 3 days ago.
what are a couple things that would cause over heating? maybe that can help out.. thanks
If your phone is in use while on the charger... the display being really high the normal things.... that cause overheating like leaveing it clocked at 1500mhz

True, I think my display was on, and it usually is pretty bright. I just charged it again this time while powered off and there was no overheating (woohoo!) I've had this epic for about a year and a half now so I take care of it likes it's child haha...
I appreciate the advice
I noticed my phone got hot when charging (phone is on when I charge) with the EI22 ROMs I used.
I recently installed the stock EL30, rooted it, and installed the Shadow kernel for EL30. Now it always stays cool. Coincidence? Maybe, but I'm happy it's always cool now.
there's possibily charging overnight will make your battery broke inside (see explanation for li ion battery on google)so it easily become overheated when used normally

Where to begin....my phone would last about 9hr before this issues started happening. For some odd reason my indicator LED light won't shut off I had to download an app to turn it off. When I try to turn of the phone It will automatically turn on again but before it does it goes to the charging screen even thought the phone is not plug to an outlet. It all started happening after I used my friends LG charger i'm thinking maybe I damage something.

Judging by the screenies it looks like the battery is to blame. Those spikes are definetly not normal.

Looks like the phone isn't correctly reading the battery.
However, the symptom of the phone going into charging when off when it's not plugged in (phone thinking it's charging) is pretty common with the Samsung Replenish, and is almost always an indicator of a bad charging port. This could also explain the LED not going out (ie charging). We see it in our store alot. Your battery dying in 3 hours would make sense, as the phone isn't charging the battery correctly in this scenario.

Hey kartiel, hope you can figure it the problem. I would be frustrated if I were you. unroot and bring to sprint maybe they will replace the phone

I agree.. it seems to be the charging port on the phone. My wife's phone had a very similar problem. Her screen would turn on by itself, the led light would stay on all day, and battery only lasted about 2 hours. It would always freeze up too once in a while and when you turn it back on, the battery drained like 20% in a span of 5 mins. Her battery stats look very similar to yours, with all the spikes. On top of that, her phone kept going into driving mode or voice talk randomly. Her phone was rooted with the auto root procedure. I wanted to back up her phone with TiB regularly and put on adblock.. but otherwise everything was stock on her phone.
What I ended up doing was a factory reset. That cleared up the freezing issue and the screen turning on and off, but the battery stuff was still acting the same. I did a battery pull over night and cleaned the contacts of the charging port of the phone with a very small q-tip and toothpick. I also cleaned the battery terminals as well for good measure. Put the battery back on the phone and charged to full while the phone was off. First thing I did when I turned on the phone was to download the battery calibrator app and run the calibration. Her phone has been back to normal now for almost 3 weeks.

Are you in a damp/humid area? I know my phone did that sometimes too during humid summer days. It's completely fine in any other condition though, especially during this colder winter.

i'm not in a damp/humid area, my wife and I have the same phone. Mine has been okay with minimal issues. Although now that I think about it, she did spill some water on the table with her phone near by a week before her phone start acting up. She had a TPU case which protected it from most of the water, but maybe some of it got in through the headphone jack or charging port??
to the OP: maybe you can try this battery calibration method as well. Some people have reported success with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312273
Hey guys, seeing if anyone's having issue I am.. started about a 2 weeks agoand now is worse..here goes.......
So two weeks ago phones dying .15%..so I put charger in and its cool..it beeps once plugged in.then shows toastbox with [ please connect charger blah blah...hit ok as obviously its plugged in..disconnect ...wait like 2 mins. Retry...this time its at 10%...now once plugged in its not recoginized..so...now its wtf...I plug my girls skyrocket and my g2 in to same contions and there no problem...I try my girls charger my HTC charger..a booty cheapo China joint...no juice....so I plug it in to my car ...instantly charges...no problems...ever...its a junk gas stop one but ....
What's worse is that it seems day by day my battery gets worse....
Phone is about 3 months old..
Setup..
Obviously tmobile Sammy gs2..simple mobile sim..mostly wifi...some 4g use but not much...
Beastmod 4.3 remastered..no uv/Oc..battery calibration upon rom first settling out(I wait bout 20 mins)
Using Eugene's tmobile t989 kernel
Go launcher ex ,go locker,go notifications...
Juice defender with juice ultra..
Mega apps and games but most i do not run ..(can give list if need be)
Not running live wall papers or any Widgets ..
After having this happen daily I have found that going over 15 % I can charge on home charger again...but once undert 11% it will only accept car charger...
I am tethered to my car charger till othervwise fixed or replacement..
Hmmm.. its just strange out of nowhere I had great battery life and even reported such..but for the life of me except for different voltages I don't know why one charger will work at certain % when stock Sammy charger wont...
I'm opening up to y'all for thought...
Thanks guys...

Ok so I have a few questions about my Galaxy s3 i747. Ok so first off I am rooted but I'm not flashing any roms, never really felt a need to. I only rooted so I could use an ext sd card for gameloft games and also the wifi tethering.
So the first problem I am encountering is my phone will just start to die. Like I will literally just watch my battery plummet. How can I stop this?
I will wake up after charging my phone fully the night before and the battery will be at around 5%, if not dead.
This morning I noticed that I left my phone on the charger because I fell asleep and the battery was at 36% and it was extremely hot! 119.7 degrees according to the battery indicator on the phone.
Also I was using setCPU and it won't let me set my cpu to over 1026mhz anymore.
Is there anything I can do to fix any of these problems?
Thanks, TheMightyBean
p.s All these problems occurred even before root.
Defective unit or rooting did something. Search how to return to stock, reroot and go from there.

So I'm fairly new to the forums and have been looking through to see what kind of issues this phone has. I knew it got a little warm, but this morning it was too hot to hold up to my cheek. I left it charging overnight, like I always do, and it didn't even charge! When i put the charger back in after it cooled, it would not charge. I had to keep holding down the power button in order for it to charge. When I tried to boot my phone, all it did was show the LG logo (SOMETIMES it showed the boot animation), then it would just turn off. It took me a few hours to be able to finally boot my phone. I had to hold down the power button down for 5 min so it could charge, then i booted into TWRP and pushed boot system. Am I the only one who has had this problem? I am currently running Imperium v 1.0.0.

did you happen to leave it in recovery?
The same happened to me the other day I left it in the charger when I came back to it it was just very hot it would not start often times the animation for a charging battery with show up then I just kind of the left it alone I was able to get into recovery and then turned it off a few hours later it turned back on. When restarted it show that it only had about 5 or 6 percent battery power I charge it on a separate charger and it has been fine don't really know what happened I'm just rooted and unlocked
And my apologies for the lack of punctuation I'm too lazy to type all this done by voice pretty damn accurate

downloading and reflashing stock deodex to verify. if I can duplicate the high temps then we may have a bigger problem.
UPDATE
Stock deodex, running CFBench @1.13GHz. I'm up in the mid 60's with spikes as high as 78c and no downclock. Not good folks. This is not an Imperium Initiative issue. This is an LG issue.
i knew it

I knew I wasn't the only one, and I was sure that it was not the awesome ROM that I am using. I guess this otter box doesn't help either. It's just weird that it happened while the phone was being charged. I would understand if I was gaming on it for hours and charging. like I used too when I was hooked on ck zombies2 lol.
Mine just overheated out of nowhere. I was doing nothing and it had no apps running... I open one and now it's hot. This is strange :/

My LG Optimus G also overheats and feels very hot to the touch sometimes and sometimes it just randomly reboots when it gets hot, I'm running stock ZV9 that I upgraded to OTA from ZV8.
No problems with mine yet. I'm running lifeless v9 right now with stock kernel. Are you guys using the charger that came with the phone? I noticed the power specs are different than some of the other chargers I have
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Mine does it off charger. Like playing games mostly. And when I use data with a bad connection.
Sent from LG Optimus Prime G
I've been running Lifeless v9 for a while with stock kernel without any problems either. I played the hell out of Anomaly Warzone Earth HD and although it would get pretty warm, it never overheated. The only time my phone ever gets hotter than playing that game is when running GPS in the car while charging without the backplate breathing (ie, sitting face up with the back on the seat).
I just experienced the same issue. I'm running Lifeless v11 with joker's stockish v2 kernel.
I charge my phone every night via AC and have not used my phone much at all today. Checked my gmail, got on facebook, and sent 1 text. I left it on my desk while I went out to lunch and I could not believe it got as hot as it did. There was nothing running yet my phone had less than 30% battery (it's been less than 5 hours since I removed it from the charger) and must've been at least 105F degrees.
So I go to bed with my phone at about 90% and I wake up to it being at 0%. It shouldn't be like lower than about 85% I'd say. Well I look at the graph of the battery discharge and it is not good. Plummets for no reason then vise versa when I went to charge it it charged really quickly and went to 100% in about 25 or less minutes. Also I haven't received the recall yet so at worst I just go get a new one for free eventually. I am a new user so I can't post links to photos of the graphs. Any ideas on what just happened here?
Turn that sh*t off and throw as far as you can. Lol seriously though return it anyway you can while you wait for the new ones or don't, idk if plan to stick with the note 7 after the return.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N930A using Tapatalk
Well, under normal conditions I'd chalk this up to an initial battery calibration issue that will work itself out, but considering the recall, I think I'd take this as an early sign of trouble and return the phone immediately.

[UPDATE]
So I plugged it in outside while I was barbecuing and it went to 100% and said it wasn't full. I let it sit there for 2 hours and the green light finally came on. So I suppose it was a calibration issue but I am still returning/replacing it. Samsung really F***ed this one up.

Considering the recall, I recommend you backup whatever's in there, do a factory reset and wait for the recall. Don't take the risk.

Sounds to me like u left porn hub on autoplay while u fell asleep and thats why it drained all the way, only thing that keeps a phone awake is a video your lucky u didnt catch screen burn in... 0% to 100% in 25 mins looks to me they probably included Qualcomm 4.0 charge prototype, you'd be sick to return it..u my friend have the golden ticket, but then again i would return it, Qualcomm 4.0 charge isnt out for a reason its still testing and it wouldnt be right for u to have it and the rest to get screwed
