When I got my Dash 2 weeks ago, I was really excited I finally was leaving Verizon with their high prices and crappy customer service however, in the past week or so my Dash has been activated, I've been having a real hard time using my phone.
My reception is horrible. In fact, while I have 4 bars at my house, I have to constanly move by the window to maybe have a decent conversation before my phone either A drops a call or B sounds like I'm trying to tune into a bad AM station where I lose the caller on the line while my phone says they're still connnected.
I'm basically using a TMO Dash with WM5 on it. At first it had the original Radio Software on it, it still had the same issue and it was successfully updated to the latest Rogers WM6 Radio software but I still have the exact same issues with reception.
Is anyone on the northside of Chicago, or anywhere else, having any T mobile reception issues with your smartphone? Whether you're at home or anywhere you go? If so please feel free to share your story.
I like this phone but unfortunately, unless I can find some kind of solution, I'm going to have to let it go or change companies. I can't do this
I live 5 minutes east of O'Hare and my phone works great
I need help please. It's not my service! (TMobile) It's my TP2. The signal is w-e-a-k! I drop calls all the time in my house now. I never used to do that with my s710.
Please, someone...is there something I can change in my settings? can i download something? I need to make this signal stronger. I did not pay all this $$ to have all these dropped calls. Can I change the "radio" or something? I think I read something about that, but I am such a noob. Please, someone guide me!
Thanks
Not sure if this will help as I am in UK.
I have just switched provider and discovered I don't get signal at home so went to Settings, Communications, Phone, Advanced, Band and changed network type from Auto to Gsm.
Don't need the 3G, data connection or whatever as have pc at home and get reasonable signal with phone forced to gsm.
I appreciate the reply, but that will not work for me. I use the data connection daily.
Any other possibilities people? Please. I am so desperate.
Does anyone have a solution ? Would a hard reset help? I don't want to start from scratch.
have you tried switching back from 3G to 2G? because if you get a constant 2G signal then it pretty much sums up that 3G signal is weak in your area.
Thanks. I don't even have 3g in my area right now. So that factor is out of the picture.
Will unfortunately have to wait for HARDSPL and new radio stacks.
There are signal boosters that you can buy off the net, no idea how efficent they are though.
Cheers,
Beasty
lol, Beast, thats exactly what I was going to say, a new radio helps in many cases. At least it did when I had my Dash.
On other news, looks like T-Mo let us down again, at least US buyers. No details were posted on their site concerning the TP2, as I posted earlier that was supposed to happen today. At least not yet. Oh well, only 4 days 'til Wednesday!!!!!!
edit: And @ Beast, or anyone who knows. Does the TP2 have an external antenna port? I use a signal booster, but used to have the external antenna adapter plugged in to my Dash. My next door neighbor is getting the TP2 also but doesn't want to ditch out the $200-$300 for a signal booster. I am going to give him my old setup if the TP2 has an external antenna port.
Thanks for the replies guys. I will wait for the HARDSPL. I will also be asking someone to hold my hand at that time b/c I have never done that process before. I am new to all of this flashing this and that stuff, but willing to learn.
how in the world are all you people getting the Tp2 so early? i assume it is not from T-mobile.
Got mine through Mobile Phones Direct It's available from a number of sources, in fact, including - gasp shock horror - Amazon (link!)
I am having reception problems too. I have a TP2 and a mytouch mytouch gets 3 bars tp2 gets 1 and goes in and out of 3g.
Select tmobile employees got the tp2 about 5 weeks ago ...roughly 5 in each market
so this could be the start of many people's reception problems...i wonder what will be done about it on the HTC end? Tmobile end? SHould be interesting.

the USA T-mobile Touch pro2?
Ah, no, not that one, sorry, didn't cotton on to your being in the USA - sorry
As to radio reception, anyone else got GPS receive problems at the moment? I've compared reception between the TP2 and my old iPAQ hw6915, and for the first fortnight, the TP2 outperformed the 6915: Now its the other way around - massively - the TP2 cannot seem to hold a lock on GPS, rendering the entire system useless.
Any ideas?
GPS Hotfix
HTC have recently issued a Hotfix for the GPS on the TP2.
Head over to the HTC support site. May fix your problems.

They probably have the UK version, or Telus version, or....etc. I know the UK version will not work in the states. Well, nix that, it will work, but will not get T-Mob's 3G when and if we see 3G. (At least in my area, lol) You can only get the 2G.
On a side note, has anyone seen the T-Mobile version. I think it is ugly compared to the UK version. Da** T-Mobile, always changing things.

Ah, it is not so techy. Tecky? hmm, got to think on the word there. I guess what I am trying to say is it is not a very complicated process. I was very apprehensive to flash my first ROM, but the first went so well, I don't think I could have asked for more. Just follow the guides and it should go smoothly. I flashed many ROM's on my (now gone) Dash. Let me put it in perspective though. I now own (sad to say) a BlackBerry, and with that you have to go through many complicated steps. However, I am getting the TP2, and that is one of the reasons. Flashing ROM's on the HTC device is a lot easier. After the first you will become Old Hand at it.
You should wait for the HardSPL, though, I think that is why mine went so smooth the first time. These guys are geniuses. They will have a solution before long. Listen to them and keep updated. They are willing to help, which is more than I can say for Crackberry dot com. Ooops sorry for the reference there. But you get flamed there for knowing a whole lot of nothing. Here, however, they might flame you, but lead you in the right direction.
Good luck and welcome to the Rhodium/Touch Pro2
k, thanks folks

Errr, now I don't understand the original signal problem. If there are no 3G coverage then IMHO you'd better switch to 2G (GSM only). It will spare your battery too, I think

Hi and thanks for any help that you can provide me.
I bought an Galaxy Note 2 SGH-T889 Tmobile version like 7 months ago from a store or reseller in Toronto Canada, the phone was in theory factory unlock, to use with the Wnmobile network which uses the same frequency as Tmobile. The phone was working until 2 days ago. Well always the phone has issue connecting to the network in some specific areas, specially because the Wind network it's not that good, but during the last 2 weeks I noticed more and more problems and some times it was just disconnected showing a circle with an slash or crossed out. After reboot the phone usually fixed the problem, until 2 days ago I had to do it every 2 hours and then the next day it just was permanent. I tried everything so far:
Remove battery and reboot
Remove battery and SIM card and reboot
Use a diiferent SIM card from my son's phone
Replace for a new SIM card
Clear Cache
Factory Reset
Reflash the modem with Odin
The phone has the latest stock ROM 4.1.2, BASE T889UVBMD1
The problem is Samsung say because it's a Tmobile they can not support it here, I have to send the phone to Samsung USA, I still fighting with the store because they said it will be covered locally, but that is another story.
I red many post talking about similar problems with the Galaxy S3 or S4 and one said that installing Jedi X14 fixed the problem, but to do that I think I have to root the phone, which not be a big problem.
The other weird thing is the phone works using other SIM card GSM, not tested with a LTE SIM.
There is any way to test if the radio/antenna for the WCMDA is disabled or broken
Thanks

If the phone is working fine with a friends sim card . There is nothing more then a issue with your sim. go to the store and have them to give you a new sim card or flash the one you have. I had that issue similar here with at&t all the time.. sims would just loose network.. The fix for me LEAVE AT&T
Good luck.
Yes, I replaced the SIM card and I got a new one.
Just trying to eliminate all the options, I just did a factory reset again, and put it back the SIM card, located outside in an area where I know there is a strong signal and the phone was able to connect to the network and I install the account ans the apps just to test the data connection and it works fine. I was outside for 20 minutes with no problem. Later go back in the building, as soon I was inside for a few minutes the phone lose connection and the circle is back, then reboot again several times, and the phone does not recognize any network, Searching and no network is available.
Aww you left out that it only does this inside but works outside.. I Would say something is blocking the signal. LIKE maybe the building..
i have two bars in my house 3 on the deck and full signal in my yard ...
its just how it is..

But he said it was working in side for many month then all a sudden it doesn't work? I understand I live in a mobile home and reception sucks but that from the start but his was working for couple months. I would say he's phone reception receiver w/e it is or something in the phone is screwing up and it will need repairment or replace or service just taking a dump and getting worse.

You could be right.. or maybe even the provider having issues with that tower .. its a tough thing to figure out..
Thanks for your ideas.
I get tired of trying to figure out was is the problem, so I got a SIM card from a diiferent provider which has the best network coverage and power, and i'ts happending the same, the majority of th etime the strength level is around -110 db even outside, with both providers, so it's the phone.
Now the question is could be possible that the antenna cable got disconnected or broken, (yes I dropped the phone a few times but nothing major) and it was working fine until few days ago. Another option it's some internal hardware is not working normally.
Now I have to find a way to repair becasue Samsung Canada does not want to do it becasue its a Tmobile phone.
Thanks, again.

Anybody with same provider as you? Invite them in you're home see if they have connection. It's best if the person have same phone and same company. Can you send directly to Samsung? I have bad phone service my area with s2 and note 2 but my friend with evo 3d has more bar then me and its made by htc but could be two things ur phone crapping out on you which need repairment or like the guy above said tower signal getting weaker. It is hard to find out. Maybe for now for a bit since it's screw up try a rom but then again rom doesn't control radio settings section but wouldn't harm. Good luck.
I'm having the same issue since last month... but with any SIM card.
The network signal strengh rests between -89 to -110 dBm. (Horrible)
The network type is always UNKNOWN:0.
What I already tried:
- Using other SIM.
- Flashing Stock ROM
- Flashing Custom ROM (CM 10.1)
- Flashing all 5 avaliable modems.
What happens:
When I get VERY close to a network antenna... I can make calls and stuff...
What can be happening:
Hardware issues - T-Mobile latest LTE unlocking update maybe burned my antenna (or some network signal related hardware).
Software issues - Can't see how since I used many variations of ROM/Modem.
I live in Brazil and my network is TIM 47. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II T889.
If anyone can confirm perfectly to me what composes the T889 antenna components... that would be nice...
I want to buy those parts from eBay and trying fixing my phone.
Thanks for your feedback it's really valuable becasue it's almost the same situation. Today I cleared up the situation with Samsung, if I want to be service under the warranty I have to bring the phone to one of repair centres in USA which it's kind of problem because I can do it only in the weekends but not impossible or what I'm doing tomorrow is to have an assessment by one of the repair centres in Toronto and I have to pay in this case, if it's something reasonable.
In my case I did not update the phone in 2 months at least so it's not software in my case, but one difference could be I got a new job 3 months ago, in my previous job the majority of the time I got 5 bars , I guess the cell tower was close to that place, and in my house the coverage it's good. In my new job, my office it's in the middle of the building, far from the windows, so the signal always was really bad, 0-1 bar.
Wondering if could be possible that a bad connection can burn the antenna or the circuit that controls the connection.
The other thing is there are many customers specially for the Galay S4 complaining about a similar problem, and I did not find any answer on how to fix this problem.
I'll post any update just in case it can help someone else.
Thanks.

Try to enable and disable wifi calling.

A also have this problem with T-Mobile Note 2 and have already tried everything you guys have...I guess I got no choice but to request a replacement which sucks because my phone was pristine and worked perfectly otherwise. It's just the damn weak to no signal that's driving me crazy. Especially since I'm paying for premium data coverage and it's pretty much money in the trash every month.
That's it. I made the call and the replacement arrives in a couple days. They offered me the "jump" program. Anyone on that? Is that worth doing on T-Mobile?
I traded an unlocked i317m for a g pro. I just picked up a unlocked t889 as welll. The person with my old i317m want my t889 since hes using simple mobile. Problem is when I went to trade I put his sim in my t899 it wont register on tmobile. Seems its only working with at&t as thats the service I have. Now with the i317m I gave him originally it works with any sim. How is this possible that a unlocked tmobile t889 wont register with his sim on tmobile network but the unlocked i317m works with any sim?
Yesterday I replaced the microUSB module that is connected with the antenna and replaced the SIM card module too.
That did NOT worked.
So... the problems is problably on the mainboard/chipset... too expensive to fix.
Another big hardware failure for Samsung's history.
I've had the replacement for about a week now. So far no signal problems. It's like when I first got my original phone. I'm sticking with the note 2 for at least another 6 months since I joined the jump program. Can't wait to see the note 3 next week
Update just to close this case
Well, after I sent the phone for repair to Samsung USA, I got it back and the problems happened again after a few days, then I sent it back for the second time to Samsung, got it back and the problem happened again after a few weeks. Basically, I'm getting rid of this phone, now the warranty is already expired and half of the time the phone was full of problems with the network.
The lesson in this case is to avoid getting hardware from the first batch (to wait a few months after the launch) or without a long term warranty (3 years), and probably will be my last Samsung device.

You mean Note 4, no?
Anyone run into an issue of losing GPS signal? Yesterday I took a small trip outside of the town and I've notice that when I place my NOTE 4 in the same exact location where I always kept my S4 I keep losing GPS signal. I've moved my phone to a different place in my car (closer to the windshield) and I was still losing GPS signal.

Mine had trouble locking on to me during a walk yesterday (Runtastic). I haven't had a chance to test it in a car. I sincerely hope it's not going to be like the Note 3 was on AT&T. If it is, it's going back.

I hear you, I love the phone but I use GPS for work a lot and trips on my day offs. I hope it's just a single issue or update fix thing...
I recently had the screen replaced on my S9. Since the replacement, it won't connect to the phone network (O2, UK). It shows that it is picking up a signal, but will not register on the network at all. When I try to register it, the signal strength display immediately drops to zero and I get the message "unable to connect, please try again later". The SIM card that I am using works fine in an old S7.
I have tried:
Dropping to 2G/3G only mode.
Network setting reset.
Deleting and recreating the APN.
Booting to safe mode.
A soft reset.
A factory reset.
Booting to recovery menu and wiping the cache.
All to no avail.
I took the phone back to the man that repaired it, he was able to get his SIM working in the device (after some time spent fiddling with settings), but couldn't get mine to work. He is disclaiming responsibility for the issue as a result of him being able to get it to work.
Is it just that the repairer has damaged the antenna? Or is it something to do with the replacement kit he's installed being incompatible? I've been trying to find out a way to test the antenna functionality, but am not really understanding what I'm seeing. I've added some images of diagnostic screens in case they are helpful. One thing that stands out is that the values for AP/BL/CP/CSC do not match - should they? I have tried to look into the CSC settings, but #*272[IMEI]# isn't enabled.
I'm a database developer by trade, so reasonably technically competent. But just have zero knowledge in this area. I'm a bit stumped as to what to try next. Any suggestions gratefully received.
Edit: Cant add links as I'm a noob. Settings are:
BL: G960FXXS9DTD7
AP: G960FXXS9DTD7
CP: G960FXXS9DTD7
CSC: G960FOXM9DTD7

Hi B1nz,
Thanks for the reply and apologies for my slow response. I'm reluctant to attempt this atm, as I don't want to risk buggering the phone and therefore giving the guy that repaired it an excuse to brush me off. If I could find a way to test the antenna functionality, that would be a big help. Are you aware of anything I can do to check that the antenna is / is not functional?
Thanks, Iain

Having swapped the sim in, I get a brief flicker where it recognises that it's on the O2 network, with a signal strength of -87 dBm 33 asu. It the immediately loses the network and the signal strength changes to -113 dBm 0 asu.
Swapping the sim to my S7, I get a signal strength of -87 dBm 54 asu.
It's odd that I get that initial flicker of good signal then nothing. Is this an indication that the antenna isn't working properly? Something else?
Thanks for your help so far, I appreciate it.

Not sure this is related. I personally changed my battery on my S9 last week. Was all prepared. Had all the tools. Still required heat gun etc to get rear glass off. Replaced battery. After a few days noticed I was only using wifi and not cellular data. My IMEI was there fine. But no data. Tried every trick in the book. Even odin Installed straight stock DT7. Everything worked but data. Then also to my horror, back to prenormal in download mode. I think battery removal reset all the rmm stuff. Followed the online stiff on how to change the date and turn off the windows time settings to auto update etc. Anyways, got back my OEM unlock tab too following the guides to fix RMM. Bottom line, I think the heat destroyed Internal antenna module. Ordered one online for 9 dollars. Should have it in two weeks....had to order it from the UK...lol. I am sure this is the issue since with Tmobile wifi calling, I never knew I had an issue till I noticed turning off my wifi killed all data. No APN issues, no sim issues, IMEI shows just fine. It's the antenna module. I see one bar for a second then a circle with a diagonal line. I'm 99% sure you have same issue.

That looks *very* similar, doesn't it? My initial suspicion was a damaged antenna module. But how would that explain it briefly picking up signal for me, or it picking up a signal for the repair guy that was adequate enough to make calls?

Briefly can be intermittent, broke weird....don't know. All I can say is I am 99.999999% of the belief the process can affect the internal antenna. My phone worked perfect until two days of use I noticed the issue. Will know when replacement part comes and I install. I left my battery glass cover off, so I can easily get to putting it in fairly easily. And I know all the formatting and reinstalling etc is a waste of time. Been there. Done that. Even have an alternate sim card here for another Tmobile account number I use. Sim cards work no issues on my Note 8 I am using now till I get the part. And again, all my IMEI stuff was there and APN's there. And I could make wifi calls on TMobile network no issues. Gotta be hardware, IMHO.

I fixed MY issue. When replacing the battery, there's a blue wire that I inadvertently slightly pulled the end connector off the circuit board. It looked like it was connected, but it wasn't pushed all the way into it's connector. We are talking a connector that is approx 1mm or less in diameter. I just didn't see it was not properly pushed in. Connected it using a magnifier glass (I have old eyes). BEAUTIFUL cellular 4g/LTE signal. Just gotta clean it all up, and put back my rear glass. Bought a replacement glass setup with all the adhesives attached to come as close to waterproof as original.
Ok. So the antenna module has been replaced, using a part that I personally purchased. I was given the old part by the repairer, so I'm comfortable that he actually did it. This hasn't fixed the problem. Whilst I was there, he took out the sim from his own phone and put it into mine. Bam! Instantly picked up his network with a full strength 4g signal.
On getting home, I tried again with my wife's sim. It didn't work on LTE, but when dropped into 2G/3G only mode, it did look like it had a signal. But, I could not connect a call out in this mode.
I'm at a loss to understand what is going on here. Any ideas?
Edit: wife's sim is EE
Hi i just recently had this same issue after i took my s9 plus in for a screen replacement the technician used a donor phone for the screen and midframe,he basically just took the motherboard from my phone and put it into the other from there no network turns out if you dont take the origional daughter board aswell it will cause a mipi failure thus phone can't register on network, got my original daughter board back issue solved
