I need help please. It's not my service! (TMobile) It's my TP2. The signal is w-e-a-k! I drop calls all the time in my house now. I never used to do that with my s710.
Please, someone...is there something I can change in my settings? can i download something? I need to make this signal stronger. I did not pay all this $$ to have all these dropped calls. Can I change the "radio" or something? I think I read something about that, but I am such a noob. Please, someone guide me!
Thanks
Not sure if this will help as I am in UK.
I have just switched provider and discovered I don't get signal at home so went to Settings, Communications, Phone, Advanced, Band and changed network type from Auto to Gsm.
Don't need the 3G, data connection or whatever as have pc at home and get reasonable signal with phone forced to gsm.
I appreciate the reply, but that will not work for me. I use the data connection daily.
Any other possibilities people? Please. I am so desperate.
Does anyone have a solution ? Would a hard reset help? I don't want to start from scratch.
have you tried switching back from 3G to 2G? because if you get a constant 2G signal then it pretty much sums up that 3G signal is weak in your area.
Thanks. I don't even have 3g in my area right now. So that factor is out of the picture.
Will unfortunately have to wait for HARDSPL and new radio stacks.
There are signal boosters that you can buy off the net, no idea how efficent they are though.
Cheers,
Beasty
lol, Beast, thats exactly what I was going to say, a new radio helps in many cases. At least it did when I had my Dash.
On other news, looks like T-Mo let us down again, at least US buyers. No details were posted on their site concerning the TP2, as I posted earlier that was supposed to happen today. At least not yet. Oh well, only 4 days 'til Wednesday!!!!!!
edit: And @ Beast, or anyone who knows. Does the TP2 have an external antenna port? I use a signal booster, but used to have the external antenna adapter plugged in to my Dash. My next door neighbor is getting the TP2 also but doesn't want to ditch out the $200-$300 for a signal booster. I am going to give him my old setup if the TP2 has an external antenna port.
Thanks for the replies guys. I will wait for the HARDSPL. I will also be asking someone to hold my hand at that time b/c I have never done that process before. I am new to all of this flashing this and that stuff, but willing to learn.
how in the world are all you people getting the Tp2 so early? i assume it is not from T-mobile.
Got mine through Mobile Phones Direct It's available from a number of sources, in fact, including - gasp shock horror - Amazon (link!)
I am having reception problems too. I have a TP2 and a mytouch mytouch gets 3 bars tp2 gets 1 and goes in and out of 3g.
Select tmobile employees got the tp2 about 5 weeks ago ...roughly 5 in each market
so this could be the start of many people's reception problems...i wonder what will be done about it on the HTC end? Tmobile end? SHould be interesting.

the USA T-mobile Touch pro2?
Ah, no, not that one, sorry, didn't cotton on to your being in the USA - sorry
As to radio reception, anyone else got GPS receive problems at the moment? I've compared reception between the TP2 and my old iPAQ hw6915, and for the first fortnight, the TP2 outperformed the 6915: Now its the other way around - massively - the TP2 cannot seem to hold a lock on GPS, rendering the entire system useless.
Any ideas?
GPS Hotfix
HTC have recently issued a Hotfix for the GPS on the TP2.
Head over to the HTC support site. May fix your problems.

They probably have the UK version, or Telus version, or....etc. I know the UK version will not work in the states. Well, nix that, it will work, but will not get T-Mob's 3G when and if we see 3G. (At least in my area, lol) You can only get the 2G.
On a side note, has anyone seen the T-Mobile version. I think it is ugly compared to the UK version. Da** T-Mobile, always changing things.

Ah, it is not so techy. Tecky? hmm, got to think on the word there. I guess what I am trying to say is it is not a very complicated process. I was very apprehensive to flash my first ROM, but the first went so well, I don't think I could have asked for more. Just follow the guides and it should go smoothly. I flashed many ROM's on my (now gone) Dash. Let me put it in perspective though. I now own (sad to say) a BlackBerry, and with that you have to go through many complicated steps. However, I am getting the TP2, and that is one of the reasons. Flashing ROM's on the HTC device is a lot easier. After the first you will become Old Hand at it.
You should wait for the HardSPL, though, I think that is why mine went so smooth the first time. These guys are geniuses. They will have a solution before long. Listen to them and keep updated. They are willing to help, which is more than I can say for Crackberry dot com. Ooops sorry for the reference there. But you get flamed there for knowing a whole lot of nothing. Here, however, they might flame you, but lead you in the right direction.
Good luck and welcome to the Rhodium/Touch Pro2
k, thanks folks

Errr, now I don't understand the original signal problem. If there are no 3G coverage then IMHO you'd better switch to 2G (GSM only). It will spare your battery too, I think

Hi all, I just got my vogue last week and have been fiddling with it ever since. I didn't like the fact that it didn't have WiFi. I heard that Spectec was working on a Micro SD WiFi but no one seemed to know were to buy it. I thought I would make it easier to find this information. Forgive me if this is already posted. I'm going to play test dummy and buy one of these soon. Pictures will come soon if all goes well!
Link to Micro SD WiFi Card
how do you plan on fitting your back cover on after that is inserted?
I will probably have to cut the side a little. I'm not sure yet. Ill know when it arrives what must be done.
Do you have a data plan? If so, then why not buy a phone with wifi?
WiFi would usually give faster connections if one was available. Also Why not? It seems like a fun thought.

Yeah, you can always do something about that...
but what about storage space?
I don't think you need to cut the side. you can leave that side flap open and still have the back cover on. Although depending on how far that flap sticks out, I think solution would be prone to snapping it. you'd have to cacoon it somehow.
WiFi on the phone is pointless if you have a data plan. The newer models HTC Diamond and TouchPro have WiFi. But also think about the battery drain you would have when using WiFi.
True, I could just upgrade, or use my data plan for everything, but something about having wifi seems fun. If for anything, just to have it.

Second that. It is necessary for travelling out of country - can then use for browsing, VOIP calling, etc.
I had been in contact with SpecTec for several months now and their Vogue "tester" was unable to get the SDW-823 to work with the Vogue. I said let me have on let me give it a shot to see if I can get it working and they shipped one to me which arrived today.
I've been playing with it and have gotten it installed (drivers, etc) and it phone picks it up however it can't find any wifi networks. I'm standing about 15' away from an access point which my laptop is connected to.
I've got some more playing to do and am going to try some 3rd party apps but I'm not really sure why it can't pick up any networks at this point.
I'll post a couple pictures here after while and let you see how much it stick out the side of the phone.
sticks out a little bit...
Nice, I haven't been able to buy mine yet, but soon I will.
i am in biggest battle of my life! heres the issue. im very interested in buying the touch pro 2 and as of right now am without a phone since i sold my htc fuze. now, the touch pro 2 looks good but i see its coming out to the Americas. now the only difference i see is the 3g and let me add that i have tmobile and dont have internet on my phone so 3g really isnt much of a factor. the tmobile version really dosent look that great compared to the original chrome version. and another issue....the htc hero.. in your opinions what would be my best choice. buy the phone now? euro version? wait till a branded version comes out but apart from 3g what else would be better with that? or wait till the htc hero comes out? another detail money isn't the issue in any of this Lol
I feel your pain...
I just went throught the same thing... I'm on ATT... see my post... I pulled the trigger on the Touch Pro 2... it wouldn't run on 3G... it didn't come with Voice Command... those two are deal killers for me... I use heavy data apps on my phone... I can't go back to 2G just for the sake of having the phone. I'll wait until ATT branded phone comes out... in the meantime (when I get my money back) I'm going to get a Apple I-Phone... If you are not heavy into speed.. then ok, if so, dont do it... its a horrible let down. the people selling the phone don't tell you the deal breaking details, they hope you will just live with it... NOT ME.. Len

one benefit of buying it local is getting hardware issues fixed under warranty...
Before I purchased the TP2 I realised it wasnt going to be released in Australia for a while. I also realised that if I wanted the phone now, I'd need to order from overseas. It crossed my mind: what if there are issues with the phone. I dismissed those after I realised I had owned several HTC phones in the past and they were all fine.
I found myself with a faulty screen after getting my TP2 from Singapore. I contacted HTC, and its going to cost about 10% of the device's cost to send it off for repair via FedEx!
I'm a bit hesitant to send the thing off. I dunno how long I can live without it!

omg seriously?? have you even TRIED to look around this forum and read some of the posts?
THE EUROPEAN MODEL OF THE TOUCH PRO 2 DOES NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY BANDS TO SUPPORT 3G IN THE US.
ALL OF THE US CARRIERS WILL BE GETTING THEIR OWN RESPECTIVE MODEL OF THE TP2, WITH T-MO PROBABLY BEING THE FIRST. THEIRS WILL BE COMING OUT AROUND MID-AUGUST. AUGUST 12.
it's not that they removed it. they never made a European model that supported US 3G in the first place.
next time, before you ask a question like that, READ. PLEASE.

yeah those phones are for a canadian provider.

EDIT: Maybe the firmware update will suddenly transform the phone and the 3,5 jack will suddenly appear........ Just woke up from my daydream
Also interesting this phone will be a WorldPhone, so CDMA+GSM.
I'm very curious as to what this imply since Telus will be launching a HSDPA network very soon in anticipation of the olympics int Canada.
Anybody know what this imply for the Custom Roms down the road?
Usually there`s seperate ROM for CDMA and GSM, will there be a need for a third type of ROM for Worldphones? Was there any other device in the past that could do both?
I'm keeping a very close eye on all the TP2 that will have US3G since I'd like to upgrade my TP that is sadly lacking 3G in North America =/.
Thanks to anyone that can answer!
Wow, sounds perfect! If it'll work on UK 3G networks too, I want one!

But i dont see anything about this being Unlocked.
I'm confused....I've got one of these but returned it twice, will this be available in the UK? Should I cancel my order and get one of these instead? Will it be available from Mobile Phones Direct?
A prompt response would be awesome as I'm supposed to be picking up another replacement tomorrow morning.
Cheers,

I'm not totally sure, but I think I read somewhere that this would only work with European 3G bands and not US. I'm not sure though. Hopefully that's wrong.
yes so excited. i'v been waitting for the verizon tp2 .. and now i here about this great news.. this is so awsome. i was thinking about that the other day.. about the adapter for the 3.5mm headphone jack... i dont have to worry about a adapter anymore..
wonder if the GSM phones will be able to be modified to accept the 3.5MM bottom piece.
unlikely, but plausable. it would not have been financially feasible to make dramatic design changes for a niche market (CDMA)
I love this news! HTC just might be listening to its customers after all.

Hi guys!
So, AFTER agreeing to buy a T-Mobile TP2 for use up here in Montreal on Rogers, I have now learned that it won't work on Roger's 3G band. Brutal! I thought buying the US T Mobile version would be okay.
Oh well.
Now, I have a real-world usage question, for those of you using this device on the ATT/Rogers network...
Just how bad (or good!) is the speed? I really would love a straight answer here, and I think others would, too.
With my AT&T FUZE, the phone typically jumps from H to 3G; but mostly 3G. Nonetheless, surfing is really hit & miss. Sometimes I will wait soooo long for a message with a 1MB attachment to arrive, but other times, it's pretty quick.
I do like to tether my laptop to the device quite frequently, and when I download a file using Internet Explorer, I will get about 100Kb/s, right up to 250Kb/s. I think I once saw 300KB/S while downloading a large file, but it was rare.
I do get faster throughput when I tether via USB and not though bluetooth, of course.
So, my bottom line question is... If you see a 10MB file that you wish to download while tethering, and you are an AT&T or Rogers user using a T-Mobile version of the phone, then just how good or bad is the transfer rate?
I am really looking for some real-world examples, nothing theoretical.
After all, according to Rogers, their 3G HSDPA network is supposed to support 7.2Mbit/s, but give me a break. File, Save As, has never been that thrilling when I tether with my FUZE. And as I mentioned, could sit forever downloading certain emails, EVEN when I see the 3G logo!
So really, please share your bottom line experience with me... Tethering and/or surfing and downloading attachments with the device.
I know plenty of you are on AT&T and Rogers with a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2, unable to use 3G.
Are you guys dying to give it back, or is it pretty darn decent?
Honest answers would be really appreciated!
Thanks!
No matter what, since you got the TmoUSA version, you're stuck with Edge speeds since it doesn't work on AT&Ts 3G bands.
if you don't like Edge, return the phone & wait for AT&T or Rogers to release it.
/thread
Hi!
I know I am stuck with EDGE speeds, I just wonder what that really means.
The good news is that the seller gave me until tomorrow to back out, with no problem at all.
So, part of me is saying, "BACK OUT! WAIT FOR THE AT&T VERSION WHICH WILL BE OUT SOON!!", but another part is wondering... Hmm... just how slow is the EDGE version after all?
I am anxious for a new phone. (And I already ordered several accessories! )
So, I just really want to know how 'bad' or 'slow' EDGE really is!
I have 24 hours to back out of the purchase! That's why I am posting here...
I paid $415.00 for a locked version. Add a few bucks to unlock it, and it's no real steal.
I wonder just how slow EDGE is, that's all! Let's see what others have to say!
Thanks again!
well if you do stick with it, I only tethered with Edge once or twice & it was unbearable for what i was doing. If you want to use the net though, I suggest getting Opera Mini or trying Opera Mobile 9.7 with the Turbo mode. This will make browsing faster.
here's for Opera Mini & the Jbed Java manager:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398567
Wow.
If you say that tethering with EDGE is unbearable, then forget it!
I will not buy the phone, and wait for the AT&T version.
Hopefully a few others will pipe in with some info overnight!
Looks like I think I will cancel the sale.. let's see what anyone else says. Thanks as always!

Without going into any technical jargon EDGE is slow and on most networks real world average speeds are between 70 to 150 if lucky. When I was with ATT I used to get anywhere from 1.5Mb to 2.1.
The difference is clear. The rumour mill has it that ATT will release their version of TP2 in October. I'd return that baby and hang in there.
On a personal note: I ditched ATT to T-Mob to get the TP2. For the first time in years I'm able to watch youtube videos with little to no buffering. Also my Slingplayer no longer stutters when in control mode.
Not a lot of word out about AT&T's version lately.
It's worth noting that there have been a lot of news stories in the past week about AT&T's network not being able to handle the load of iPhone data and being very slow.
Another thing to remember here is that AT&T doesn't necessarily mean CDMA+GSM world phone .... you may be looking at the original GSM TP2 device here, with no 3.5mm jack if/when AT&T releases theirs
On a personal note: I ditched ATT to T-Mob to get the TP2. For the first time in years I'm able to watch youtube videos with little to no buffering. Also my Slingplayer no longer stutters when in control mode.[/QUOTE]
I agree with this! I'm using TMO this time around and I love the speed for both YouTube and my Slingplayer.
I'm guessing it's too late now but it really depends on your area. You should have taken your TP2 and tested it whilst in Montreal. Different carriers give different EDGE speeds, just like different carriers give different 3G speeds. Some people get easily over 200kbps. In which case it'd be like early broadband. But yeah, just because someone in Florida gets great speeds and someone in Seattle (random examples unrelated to reported performance or anything like that) gets horrible speeds doesn't mean that your experience will reflect either one.
Oh, and comments on ATT's capabilities to handle the traffic are irrelevant here as the OP is talking about Roger's network in Montreal.
Hi guys,
Thanks to the posts so far, my choice is clear!
I will use my FUZE for the next month or so, and await the AT&T version. It would be the height of impatience for me to buy an EDGE phone, knowing that a 3G version is just around the corner.
Also, based on the pics I have seen online, another HUGE plus on the AT&T version (IF the pics are legit), is that the top row of buttons is like the FUZE... ! @ # $ % ( ), as opposed to a row of numbers. The numbers on the AT&T TP2 are in a keypad formation, which I like more.
And as for the top row of keys, I LOVE LOVE LOVE having symbols there, accessible without hitting the shift key. (IF the spy photos are true).
I cancelled the order!
The only pain in the ass is that I already ordered two cradles, 5 clear screen protectors, 5 mirrored screen protectors, 5 extra magnetic styli, 3 batteries, 2 chargers, and god knows what else! So now I have to STARE at these accessories for a month or two, until I get the AT&T version. What a tease!
Thanks for all your help!
Well, at least the ATT version version seems to be the standard build/body unlike the Tmo version which is slightly longer. That means that the accessories should fit it without any big problems (you'll have a hole for the camera that isn't on the ATT version according to the pics, but hey).
Just set your FUZE to 2G EDGE only and see how it is for yourself.

Yes, I thought about doing that, but I wasn't sure how to definitively set this up. Despite many years of purchasing, upgrading, flashing, cooking, and tweaking these devices, I am still a little unsure how to definitively go into each of the various modes/bands (2G/2.5G/3G) and whether or not it would be an accurate test/assessment.
I figured it would be best to get people's advice who have actually tried tethering while on AT&T and Rogers.
Settings>Phone>Band>Select Network>GSM (or something like that)
I did the same mistake.. I bought the Telus version and unlocked it. I thought that I can live without the 3G because I don't browse much. I later realised that the EDGE speed isn't enough for the music streaming I usually do. I really love the phone but I'm thinking about selling it.. I bearly used it for a couple hours and put it back in its box. Still unsure of what I'm gonna do. But my guess is if your lucky enough to be able to back out, send it back. I had to pay $500 + $25 for unlocking. Probably not gonna sell for that much and I only got to enjoy it for an hour or too
Edit: BTW the EDGE speeds ranged from 150-230 kbits/sec which is about 20-30 KB/s when downloading compared to 350-400KB/s when downloading on my Diamond on 3G.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Not cool, of course.
I did get my money back and was able to back out, no questions asked.
Downloaded at 30 KB/s is brutal. I know you are not the only one to make this mistake.
All I know is that I hope Rogers/AT&T really come out with their own version... because otherwise, I'll have tons of accessories to sell!!

Lol yeah I hope a 3G version does come out. I use the pro2 from time to time I love the RAM, keyboard and screen side of the phone but when I'm fed up with EDGE I use the Diamond. I must say though that if you need 3G for browsing primarily, the speeds are good enough especially on Opera (thumbs up for Opera). When it comes to streaming its so so..
I say if you can hold back, wait for a 3G version so you dont regret anything.
Good luck buddy.

Also as of right now what does not work are:
Bluetooth
Camera
External Speaker.
Full nonhacked sleep
A lot more bugs.
You should be able to find the answer in the link I gave you
Good luck.
Voicestream
Well, Reasons behind why it still says voicestream is once upon a time, T-Mobile was called voicestream before the German telecom bought them out, Network still reports in some ways as voicestream, Phone might just be picking up that. Not a real issue though.
I actually noticed this going from PA to NYC this weekend. In the rural areas of PA it would jump to Voicestream (not T-mobile, even though it's really the same) and I would lose data connection for a while. I switched over to WM and it was fine, phone and data worked and showed T-Mobile. There is some discrepency about verifying the network which is odd.
