White dot on screen - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I got a white dot on the screen. It's only visible on light backgrounds. I got a glass screenprotector mounted on the phone. So my first guess would be dust or some bubbles/dust in/on the actual screenprotector. Anybody experienced this?
Yes, i could just rip the screenprotector off and check my self. But i don't have any spare left.

I have the same problem. Its in the lower right of the screen. It appears to be an issue with the backlight shining through the screen. I sent off the phone for repair three weeks ago - it arrived back Friday along with a letter that said - No fault found.
The problem is only noticeable on bright light backgrounds.
I've escalated the case with HTC who were very apologetic that the issue was not noticed. Whats even more annoying is I wrote a letter along with a photo of the phone and a red circle around the area of the screen with the issue - the repair centre didn't even bother to read the letter.
I am furious with HTC and even more furious that I now have to send the phone in for repair yet again, which means another 3 weeks without my 10.
If I were you id call HTC now and book it in asap. Make sure you send them a photo of the problem and explain that you are not the only one with this defect.
Edit: Ive attached a photo. Its VERY hard to photograph the issue and is MUCH worse in real life.
Edit 2: Ive attached the letter i sent with the phone to HTC that they ignored.

I have a similar dot in almost the same spot. Since this is my 3rd phone, I'll probably just live with it. It's appeared on every 10 that I have had.

Really - on every one? Thats mighty odd. Did you happen to notice when it appeared? For me it was after making some backups - the phone was hot. I wonder if the battery has expanded in that location on mine - whats the story with yours?

It's possible. Yep, on every one of them. Heat might be the culprit, I did run a backup the other day, I can't remember if I saw it before or not.

I got this (see picture). I've contacted the store i bought the phone from. Let's see whats happening. To bad i don't live in the US.. then i would just crack the screen in send it in for a OHOH.. wish ofcourse don't apply in europe...
I've tried a couple stuck/bad pixel apps with no resault..
Removed screenprotector and applied preasure on the spot with no resault..

This little dot is just taunting me now. I wonder how many others have this issue.

Well, the original one had vibration issues, and a big white splotch, the second had a defective camera (I actually didn't have it more than a few days, so it didn't have the screen issue), the one I have now just developed the white dot 2 days ago. Pretty bummed.

My wife thinks I'm nuts because I'm obsessing over a tiny spot. Lol

Update. i sent the phone away to the company i bought it from. Hopeing for a free fix or replacement. Let's see how it goes.

I can send mine to htc.... Again.... I talked to them yesterday, probably another 3 weeks since they are low on stock. Plus I would need to find a temporary phone, and I just paid for sunshine before the dot showed up. Then how long until it happens again?

I had the same problem over my app drawer button (it was quite big) , luckily (haha) I broke my phone screen and they uhoh'd it

If I could use uh-oh again, that's exactly what I would do.

Googel'ed some. And i guess this is whats called a "Mura".. or clouding? Never heared of it on phones thou..

I have same type of dot or say series on dot om lower left screen,
Its because of playimg games phone got hot

It has 2 year warrenty, even if you got it when first released it will have

Hi I have been searching for the proof of purchase the whole day and I couldn't find it. Is there any other way htc going to repair it without proof of purchase?

When I sent mine for repair it they didnt ask for any proof of purchase.
I think they just check the IMEI / serial against their database to see when
it was sold and whether its been reported as stolen etc
Proof of purchase is not required but not all phones have 2 year warranty. Just call HTC and see what they say our contact them online, the response time I experienced was within 1 working day.
Thank you very much!

[Q] roboic voice on a brand new N2

Guys, I have another white GN2 (brand new). Currently, anyone on the other end cannot hear me on this phone. They hear garbled sound or as others call it, robotic voice.
I have tried rooting it and installed stock rooted rom. That didn't fix the issue though.
Any suggestions? Could it be the radio? Can someone point me on how to replace it, or reinstall the radio?
Thanks

Was this before you rooted and installed another ROM? If it came defective from factory why not just return and get a new one... it could be a bad mic (ie. hardware problem) so you might not be able to fix it...

Like this when I got it. I thought it could have been a hardware (mic) problem as well. But if I put it on speaker phone, the other party all of a sudden can hear me. So hardware has to be ok.
Last option would be to return, but I"m trying to avoid that.
Turn off the Autotune feature... JK I would root, backup, and factory reset to make sure it wasn't something installed. If you still have issues try to exchange.

so i called tmobile and a replacement is being sent overnight. now how do I unroot this bad boy so I can return it without issues??

nothing i do now works.... so i'm just waiting for the replacement to come in. I bought 4 GN2s and sadly this is the only one with that issue....
on side note, white note 2 or the titanium grey one? The defective is white and the one I'm currently using is titanium grey? and I'm a male not female.... not sure if I'll take the white one and give the grey to my brother, or keep this and give the white to him.

Yes, I just got back a refurbished M8. They give you 3 options:
1) For $30 and a credit card hold of $600, they send you the refurbished one overnight and you have 10 days to send your cracked one in. If there's any other items wrong or you messed up your warranty they auto deduct your card. i went with this option as it was previously my wife's and i wanted a clean start.
2) send your phone in and wait about 10 days for them to fix yours. no costs.
3) i think the other option was expediting the shipping on the repair of your own phone. that was like $25
The phone I got back looks absolutely brand new and no issues so far.

Also, HTC was awesome customer service wise. An actual person answered the phone right away, joked about the cracked screen, and had the replacement phone on its way in under 5 mins. Def not what i'm used to with corporations.
Thanks guys, thats exactly the info i needed, my dad broke his phone so we needed to know the process, im happy to hear the customer service is great!

It's been over a month and I started facing screen flickering , i used all the tweaks like disabling HW overlays and wiping cache partition but still no luck , so I rooted my phone and installed official CM13 to see if its zen UI or somthing related with Asus official OTA but still facing the issue on CM 13 can anyone help out , is there any else software tweak or is it truelly a hardware problem ?

Spend lot of time online to find out what the problem is. HW OR SW But in vain send lot of mails to ASUS but only received automated mail that visit the customer service centre. But I don't have nearby. Can someone explain????
Try to bend the upper border of your screen (the place consist of Asus logo and the receiver). Turn off the screen before doing. Check if it is reduced or gone, but i guess it won't in the first try, so do it 5-6 times. I experienced this 2 days ago. If you can't fix it by my method (over 10 times), you should better have it serviced by Asus.

So... my Asus Zenfone 6 just DIED (BEWARE BEFORE YOU BUY)

I received this phone on 1st July and today, 27th July, it just died on its own. Recently the camera module became wobbly and whenever the phone vibrates it rattles a lot.
Well, an hour ago i sent a whatsapp message to my friend, put the phone down, after a minute i picked it up to check, and lo and behold, it cant turn on anymore. It cant be battery issue because i know it had a more than 50% charge. I tried plugging in the charger and switching it on but it still doesn't work.
Called up Flipkart.com to claim my Mobile phone protection insurance . They will pick it up for repair. Hope all things goes well.
However, i am still unsure about the Swivel camera module. Dont know if it will hold up anymore seeing how it became loose so quickly. I trusted Asus, not anymore....
I made a youtube video showing its wobbly camera.

Asus 6z dead
Mine is also dead, it went into a boot-loop. The wobbly camera is not an issue though its common to all devices, even reviewers have addressed this.
Flipkart just declined my request for a replacement, I went to the service center and they have told me that if it is a software issue then they will flash the new software or else they will give me a replacement.

Guys it started working again, out of nowhere.
Your video is unavailable so I can't tell if your camera is rattling more than mine. They should've implemented some kind of a lock when camera is not used and used a rubber coating or something in that camera hole so it would be at least quiet.

This happened to me too a few times. Fine one minute and the next screen will stay black. Pressing power does not do anything. You can not bott, restart you phone because nothing happens.
I am rooted and use xposed, custom kernel so I will not bother with Asus' service
What has worked for me every time is taking out the sim/SD card tray. Then powering on works.
my phone also died
This also happened to my zenfone 6 on the 28th June. Completely unresponsive (and removing the SIM tray didn't change anything). I bought it from Gearbest, who have agreed to replace it, but I'm still waiting, with no ETA so far. I loved the phone while it worked, so I'm a bit disappointed. BTW, if you don't need a selfie cam, a bit of silicone glue solves all the camera issues

Aren't you just using the Nova Prime Launcher and ASUS gestures instead of classic Navigation Bar? That could be a culprit of strange behaviour.

I was using stock standard software. The phone had been on the charger overnight, and in the morning was dead - no response to pressing any combination of power and volume buttons. I followed a set of recovery instructions from gearbest, nonw of which worked, and then they asked me to return the phone.
I know there are many people waiting for this phone to be released, or shipped, and they're wondering what the holdup is?
I think Asus built themselves a lemon. While it looks cool, and has some decent specs, and many people want one, the fact is that many of those who already received theirs are sending them back because of semi-major issues and even complete failures of the device! So I think the delay in availability is Asus scrambling to get this thing fixed before it becomes a complete flop, assuming it hasn't already! I know that my interest has basically died and I will not even consider this phone until I read that many have the phone in hand and ALL the major bugs have been squashed!

Sure.
I didn't say it would damage or break the phone, or that the phone would die. It's not even a third-party launcher error, but an ASUS gesture error that, in combination with some changes in developer settings (scaling), can cause the non-standard behavior of the launcher. This can surprise the inexperienced user and he or she may consider the phone broken. Like it was with Animation scale bug a few updates before.

I regularly attend discussion forums in several European countries about ZF6. I have encountered one case where a child threw a ZF6 into a mother's pool and one user who had one SW problem after another and constantly spammed the forum. But these problems were not device errors, but his ignorance of ZenUI and pure Android. Eventually, he bought a phone from a manufacturer he had been used to for years, and finally there is peace in the forum now.
Here at XDA it is different, most of the pseudo problems are endlessly discussed by those who have never held the ZF6 and fatal problems affect users mostly from an unnamed Asian country. Poor users from the same country most often complained about my previous Xiaomi Mi A1 with Android One about missing MIUI (!) and about slow updates (despite the fact that we have had regular monthly updates). Anyone can make his own conclusion. Most users do not deserve to use a smartphone at all because its complexity often exceeds their capabilities.
Then there are UK users complaining about slow filling of warehouse in stores and USA users who complain that the ZF6 is not on sale in their country yet.
I'm involved in the ZF6 user community in my country, and as far as I know none of them have had any fatal problem yet.
ASUS has only one problem, it did not expect such an interest and does not manage to produce in such quantity.

This is your personal pure and false speculation.
just too popular
I also think the number of actual incidences of broken zenfone 6 reports are very few, say less than 10, which is about par for the course in a new phone, and I think I've just been unlucky. The real problem here is that the phone is almost exactly what everyone has been wanting, and so every batch delivered to the retailers almost immediately sells out. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting my replacement, which can't come soon enough.

Actually, a friend of mine had changed a few settings from the developer options to make the phone faster. I don't remember the exact setting but after that the phone was dead.

Classical tinkering with a new phone without proper knowledge. So it was user error.
"to make the phone faster" as if ZF6 is not fast enough...
