Any chances of a carrier unlocked version of the Note 7 in the US (Model SM-N930U)?
Currently Samsung offers the S7/S Edge in a carrier unlocked version supporting all US carriers stock unbranded.
I was wondering the same thing.

What he said or get anew unlocked international version which will likely exist well before a US specific unlocked version. The S7 unlocked version for the US did not show up for about 4 months after release. Either way international unlocked or US unlocked about to be 1000.00

In the US, gov and business are working hand in hand to "milk" you to the maximum degree possible. Carriers lock down phones and in the process lock you to one company....even if you pay full price for the hardware. Gov turns a blind eye to this Consumer rip off. Why do carriers do this? Because they can get away with it and they work hard to ensure its next to impossible for a manufacturer to 'offer for sale' an unlocked version.
EXCERPT: An oligopoly is a market dominated not by one, but by a small number of players. Because the number of players is so small, serious price competition doesn’t happen very much. Instead oligopolists tend to do sneaky things like put their heads together to figure out ways to raise prices, protect their turf, and limit consumer choices. They typically deploy armies of lobbyists to accomplish these goals. Some of these lobbyists go on to careers as regulators or vice versa (more on that in a moment).
As a side note...in some Asian countries its ILLEGAL to sell a LOCKED phone!!

Dude i got it long time ago. The problem here is not the carries but the dumb ass consumers. I will not purchase a phone I cannot root it is a matter of principle. There is nothing absolutely nothing a phone has that I need if I cannot root it.
That is why I am looking for a root able version or I will keep my Note 3 and purchase a new battery for it.
The note 7 without root is useless to me .
Agree!
Agree that "passive consumers" are a big part of the problem... and...
"passive consumers" are EXACTLY what the carriers/manufacturers want. SHEEP to be herded and fleeced!
You are aware more and more companies are embracing the concept..."You don't really own the phone (or whatever your purchase) you bought. You've merely entered a long term agreement with us to use it, not own it. You can't root it because your program might be better than ours....and we can make you pay for that improvement YOU came up with in next year's model.
Just another example of corporate control over consumers with gov acting as their 'muscle' or enforcement arm.
Thank goodness for sites like XDA that help the cause for ROOT and getting us those things the carriers &/or manufacturers want to keep from people like you, me and XDA disciples.

New to the whole android platform (addicted after buying nexus 7). I have a severely crippled AT&T iphone 4 (cracked screen, no wifi or gps). Looking between the s3/optimus g or nexus 4. This phone has the best specs on the market, possibly the best screen along with LTE and expandable memory. The nexus 4 section has almost 4 times as many posts as this. Why isn't this phone hyped up? People are still saying the s3 is a better phone than this. Is LG really that bad? I tested this phone out at best buy twice, it is awesome however the camera isn't all that amazing to me (will try again). I would like an unlocked boot-loader (who wouldn't) just for root access for a few of my apps and tethering... Otterbox already has a case for it I am ready to buy. However it seems this phone will be swept under the rug. I don't want to invest two years for a phone that has no support.
Am I the only one?
stigma.... Most at&t reps wouldn't have a clue if you walked into the store and asked what is the fastest phone you have... which runs Krait... What are MHL capable. sg3, pantech breeze, and Iphone, note, I those are the phones they keep selling.... It's gonna take some time.
LGOG Bam!
The previous user nailed it. If the s3 sells more, reps will push it even nor because it's a safe bet. It's why a lot of people have a hard time switching from iOS to Android. Sells people sell it and almost everyone has one.
It's hard to steer people in a new direction even I'd there is a better product sometimes. That's just capitalism for you. Although I wish this phone got more attention.. If it received half the affection the s3 gets, lg may listen to the petitions or we would have more devs working on the bootloader.

More popularity means more devs trying to crack the bootloader. It also means more petitions signed to get the bootloader unlocked. I'd say it's ask pretty important.

Not everyone cares about it getting unlocked. I don't. Its a good phone without that. Yes it can be better but I know more people that don't care about rooting then I do that care. I think people are missing out on a great phone just because its locked down. I understand why a lot of people want it unlock but that will never choose my phone for me. It will be unlocked very soon. Its almost there now. I happy that it is but at the same time I don't care. Its the fastest phone I've ever owned whether it popular or not. But will more cases come out for it if it gets unlocked ? LG has to prove themselves first then the rest will come. Samsung was in the same boat for awhile, now look at them.

I hate to sound like a spoil sport, but I've been down this road before with people wanting petitions for various reasons be it to unlock bout loaders, release ril or release certain drivers that would make Dev support better. Unfortunately it always fails. I hope the best for anybody that try's to promote development within the community, but my advice to anybody that Dev support is of highest importance is to either get a phone that is already well established within the community or get a nexus device. This is why I got a nexus device and I'm glad I did. Best move I ever made.
Once again Best of luck to anyone who promotes development in the community as that's what this is all about!
Y'all are right I work from AT&T and I see iPhone users return the S3 all the time simply because it's not the iPhone they recognize its capable of doing the same things but are not willing to adapt to the change... I've had the optimus and even when telling people it's better than the S3 they know about the S3 and rather take the sage route than try the cool phone I have... I will say however most of my co-workers are avid iPhone junkies and will reuse to believe anything is better than the iPhone... and their right from a usability stand point but from a functionality stand point android trumps every time... but it's all abt what people see on tv and hear abt from peers

Giant, I will refer you to the Amaze 4g forum, where after a barrage of inquiries and a petition, HTC finally released the WIFI / BT chipset drivers. MOST times it fails, but it can happen.
Now, to the question at hand. Not only is it correct that AT&T store folks by and large haven't a clue, but you'll find a good majority on this type of site treat anything put out by LG with extreme caution. Their support is miserable when it comes to software updates AND release of drivers etc... Many of us are hopeful, because of the N4 being an LG product on some level, that they'll wake up and smell the coffee, but I am not holding my breath.
It is a great handset, but I am a flash addict, and I've been down this road before. I still own a G2x that I've passed on to my daughter.
I have been debating whether to get the Nexus 4 16 gb ($359 CDN + $20 shipping + 5% tax = $400) or go with the Rogers Optimus G which is being offered $129 ($135 with tax) on a 3 year contract. That is a huge price difference.
The risk with choosing the Optimus G is that it never gets its bootloader unlocked and I'll always be stuck with an outdated, limited version of Android.
For this reason I've decided to go with the Nexus 4 even though the initial price is higher. If the Optimus G gets unlocked I can always sell the Nexus and recoup most of the expense. If the Optimus never gets unlocked, I'll be satisfied with my Nexus purchase and I'll even be able to sell it in a year when the next Nexus phone is released.

I agree. Lack of LTE is what killed the N4 for me and pushed me to the LGOG. If the OG bootloader never gets unlocked and Google get their wits about them and releases an LTE N4 in the future, I'd be happy to switch.

What I guess they are getting at with the law is yes you own the hardware but do not own the software that runs on it. Only license it from the manufacturer and there for should not be allowed to change the software you don't own.
This law is also only effecting phones purchased after october and you can still unlock your phone you just need to have the carrier unlock it is all.
What is supposedly illegal is hacking the software to unlock it (like they can catch you) or getting a unlock code from a online provider other then your carrier / manufacturer.
I think it is dumb though. I bet Apple had a hand it in. Getting upset people were getting the carrier version of the iPhone and paying less and hacking to unlock it rather then paying a insane amount for the unlocked version.

All of those affect other people. Murder/assault is committing an act of violence against somebody without cause (can't claim self defense). Excessive speeding has great potential to kill other people on the road when you either slam into them because they are going normal speed vs your double speed or you lose control of your vehicle and slam into another. "Hacking" into somebody else's computer is an violates their right to privacy. That computer is their property and they have a right to be safe and secure when it comes to their property and belongings.
I understand your point, but YOU own your phone (assuming you paid for it and its not leased). You flashing your phone for another carrier and installing a custom ROM and using free software does not violate anybody else's rights to anything.
By your reckoning, do you think the government should be able to enforce a law for example that forces men to sit down to urinate? Either you are your own person and own your property or you don't.
Let's say a person with bad intentions gets an unlocked phone... With numerous different sim cards running through it from different carriers... You mean to tell me no harm can be done with that? It doesn't have potential to obstruct police investigations, locate kidnapped people, etc?
If you purchase an american flag, can you legally burn it? Hell can u leave it out in a rain storm? If you have cash that u earned, did u know its illegal to rip, burn, or even write on it? But its yours right?
Maybe it doesn't, but that's how I look at it. And everyone that has a phone already can unlock it if they want... Its just for new buyers which is why I don't see what the big deal is. How many people really unlock their phones? Less than 1% of cell phone users? Idk just think its a big fuss about a falling sky over nothing.
And BTW... I may not HAVE to sit/stand to urinate... But there are restrictions of where I urinate (if that's relevant)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Apparently a couple of people are confused regarding ownership. Yes, you own your phone. No, you do not own the software or firmware on the phone. You own a licence to use the software and firmware. I am not saying it is right or wrong, but that is how it works.
Hope that helps.
Sooo....if android is open source...i can flash another custom rom and unlocked it...no broken laws there right? lol
Did you pay full retail or was your phone subsidized?
Also to be clear. It is not breaking this law to root the phone or install custom software. That is still the same.
The law is only concerning the carrier lock on the sim card.
So you can flash as many roms and stuff as you want as that won't effect sim locks. But if you modify the firmware to remove the sim card lock then that would be a violation of this law.

If you unlock it without the carriers approval you are breaking the law. If somehow you can write all the firmware, drivers, modems, etc from scratch along with a ROM that does not contain any lines of code from the carrier you may be able to go that route.
Being how most of us have Tmobile it's a non-issue anyway because T-mobile is very friendly regarding unlocking.
Fisrt we own the phone no one owns the softwear its open source, qualcomm has relased the source code for there drivers the only prob is the federal government is full of crooks but thats not here nor there. So anways why cant we unlock what is ours and open to us you tell me the carriers or the makers of the phone
Its just a bunch of stupid laws... all they want is new ways to keep spying on peoples privacy...example like wt. FB...
Fck the crooked system. It's my phone.

This is an equivalence of purchasing digital media. The consumer may have purchased the digital media but they have no right to distribute the content unless they have permission from the distributor(s). Unlocking a phone (illegally) means the consumer is distributing the phone without the carrier's consistency.
I still signed the petition that's against the passing of the law anyways.

I've had a gs2 and a gs3 all T-mobile. Why is it that we U.S users get done so dirty when it come to updates, fine tuning lol customer service etc etc. We pay as much as the next guy (most of us) for our "high end" phones If apple does do one thing well it's delivering their boring IOS updates to the rest of their devices. I still know people with a galaxy s, and if you think we are going to get a 4.1.2 update before the s4 comes out you are sadly mistaken. If i pay 500 + for a device I at least want it to be relevant for some time. Even the specs of the international why is it we are the mentally challenged little brother. I know each carrier has to add their bloatware and stuff on to the updates but that never even happens.Things need to change call me a crybaby but I work for my money like every one else and am tired of it being a great investment for only 6 months. Do they all want us to go get an iphone before they stop treating us like sheep with wallets. Let me know if i'm wrong or what you think.
What does iOS have to do with US vs Non-US customers ? iOS is made for ONE family of devices, all with the same hardware per iteration and Apple only have to worry about that one family, with is like... what... maybe four different phones being actively supported at this point ?
If OS updates are your priority, get the Nexus 4 or another "nexus" device - then you'll get updates with iOS frequency and support. It depends on what is important to you.
I'd rather have the 2Gb RAM than the quadcore.
Developers do a great job of keeping a phone "alive" and making it even better than stock so I think it's a safe bet that any popular device (like the S3) will have a long "second life" in development even after official updates are no longer pushed.
Reason why I was coating iOS was that international or us you have the same specs as the next guy and they still update their iOS on outdated devices my s3 can't even get an update an we aren't even outdated yet. Yes developers do a lot and I love em, but you can only do so much example multiwindow. Imagine if our u.s developers had a premium suite to play with. They are teasing us showing us what our phone are supposed to be.... There is a diff in thinking you can be better than knowing you can be better. On that note the international s3 just got a 4.2.1 leaked update where is our 4.1.2 official update. Imagine when the devs get a hold of that update.. And ppl think we are going to see key lime pie when we can't even get 4.1.2. Even int s2 can compete with the u.s s3 smh

I think to sum up what the other guy said, id say not a lot of people know about sites like xda , while others who do choose not to root because they are scared to mess up their phone or dont want to deal with it. I do feel his pain that here in the us we dont get as much love as others do that own the intl version. Id say its a pretty sad response to say "get a nexus". 0people get a certain type of phone for a reason. Id love the nexus for the updates but screw tryinf to cradle that thing like a babt bwcause of the glass back and no sd card support. If the sgs line gor frequent updates it would def make it a more killer phone. Samsung really needs to do something about that if they completely want to wipe out the competition. If the OP is arguing that Apple is the ideal, I think a comparison to the current Nexus line is accurate. Lack of choice is one reason for faster updates - Apple doesn't have to implement it's OS with vastly different processors between US and International versions like with the S3. And Samsung makes a TON of different phones. Pros and cons. If a person doesn't want to try custom ROMs, I'd argue that the majority of customers don't even know or really care what Android version they're running. I think "knows what flashing I'd, but too afraid to do it" is a small camp between xda and the average consumer who only cares that the phone "just works".
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
But for the ppl that do know what version they are running and the miilions of videos that broadcast and promote specs that go way past the phone just working. Yeah I know u.s and int have diff specs, and what is the valid reason for that because I never seen one. I've been pimping my phone since I had the wing. Tech spec and rom vids are not for people who are satisfied with just a working phone. If all the phones had the same specs and then the carriers make their print it'd be cool.

Yeah, the subsidy model in the USA is growing outdated and I think we're seeing the carriers realise this, albeit slowly. If a person is doing contract service and expects a new phone every 2 years, it's a very different market than if people are paying lower service rates, but buying the phone outright.

So yes I fall ino the category now of "I jist want it to work the way it is supposed to and not wait for bugs to get squished" . And I dont believe im alone. I jnow there arw loyal crack flashers out there that have no problem doing all thatbstuff and flashing all the roms on this forum. It comes down to time and whats really important. Ive had all the sgs variants for tmobile and feel ive been taken for a complete circle ever year. They hold updates unril the new sgs version comes out then its another 6 months until we get one leak. When the next nexus phone comes out jm jumping ship for sure. Need to get off this wheel.

Yeah I know there a 2 diff communities of phone users, I'm not a hardcore ROM guy all I'm saying is a 4.1.2 update and hope forbthe fyture of our devices would be nice, even theosy casual of users slowly appreciate updates. My dad is 72 lol he has the s3 he just wanted a phone. And yeah into tally understand on not flashing and wiping too much... Im not a family guy but also don't mind staying on the same rom. Im just complaining about things being thrown in my face and false promises because I could really use premium suite stock......personally.

I understand your Rant and all the posted for and against, but this could go in the Off Topic thread for further discussion. There are some good people in this thread who know what they are talking about and how to get deep into the OS. I do hope you'll continue the discussion in the OT thread, as I think that there are some valid points to be made.
Thread Closed.
Also, even though this is a rant, you formed it as a Question and put [Q] in the title. Moved to Q&A
I keep getting the Note 4 910a (3x) hoping that the locked down everything won't bother me. It does... a lot.
My 14 day return ends on 1/16/15. I ordered the n910c yesterday, and expect it to arrive 1/13/15 at the latest. I did quite a bit of research, and found that the N910c/f/t should, in theory, work on AT&T with no issues. They seem to have all of the bands required. T-Mobile refuses to sell me a phone without signing up with them, so it came down to c and f. For those who don't know, C and F are almost the same with the exception of c having Exynos, and f having snapdragon. I was surprised that the exynos seems to support AT&T LTE. Anyway, I chose the 910c, because the exynos chip is supposed to be faster, and use less battery, and was cheaper. Plus there is a glimmer of hope that 64 bit will be unlocked on it once lollipop is released on it. I will come back here, and let you guys know how the switch went once I get my phone.
For those of you who choose to stay behind, I hope that you gain root, but I doubt it will happen since all of the devs seem to have moved on.
"Egocentric", I love posts like these, no one cares if you stay or you go, you contribute nothing as far as development to the device, no one will morn you or the other people like you. Leave and don't fill up the device thread with crap like this. To anyone else thinking of posting an, 'I'm leaving, follow me or stay with an unrooted phone forever', do us all a favor and choke on your phone... This phone performs fantastically as is, we are also able to do non root related adjustments to help with battery and so on. Buy a tablet and flash that to scratch the itch. /rant

"Jerk". Do you think that talking to people like that will get you some sort of XDA cred? Last I checked, the General forum for 910A wasn't very full at all. If anything, a new thread should be welcomed. The point of this was to not only express my distaste for a locked device, but to help point others towards a more open device. That is why I mentioned more than just the device I chose. I actually listed the 3 that I believe to be fully compatible with AT&T's network. I won't be choking on my new phone, and suggesting I do so, only makes you sound butt hurt, cuz you couldn't afford to buy one outright. So why don't you do us all a favor, and stop making your obvious envy more obvious, and stop wasting space on my thread.
To anyone else; I'll still report back to confirm that the N910C does in fact work on AT&T. I noticed my 910A is picking up 17. So I can't confirm 4 until I find an area.
The troll will pursue until the end of time.....

I, for one, am kind of interested to see whether the N910C is working with ATT or not. What software are you using to see the bands in use?

"LTE Discovery". Like I said, though, I can probably confirm lte band 17, but not 4 unless someone knows where I can find band 4 coverage in the Jefferson City, Missouri area.
Why note just buy a tmo from swappa or eBay, I picked up a bnib tmo note 4 on Friday for 600 off ebay
Who cares if your leaving. We don't want whiners anyways. Bye bye.

Kinda wanted the Exynos variant. 600 is an amazing deal, though.

Not whining. Merely want to use my expensive property however i choose to. I see you went a different route. Good luck with that.

Well if i had the money, i would just buy a 910T and be done with it.
I didn't even know there was such a restricted version of this phone.
So thank you for the thread, it was interesting to see a users perspective and I hope you manage to get the version you want.
Regards,

Yeah, no one cares if you leave. This post is just showing how much of a spoiled, impatient consumer you are. Carry on.
I don't have a problem with this guy's thread, it is extremely frustrating and he wants a place to vent about it.
I am still on the fence. My original decision was to go with the Nexus 6, but the complaint list on reddit about the software and hardware of that phone have turned me off. I love AT&T and have been with them for a long time, but I am considering switching to the Sprint Note 4, they have a much better deal than AT&T anyways.
For now I am going to continue to hold off until March to see if the price drops because I still love the Note 2 and am not in a hurry to upgrade. Since I really would like to stay with AT&T I have disabled all of my favorite xposed mods and am pretty much running stock 4.4.2 DN3. I think I could live without root on the Note 4, aside from that stupid ass AT&T logo in the top left of the screen. Highly annoying.
I'd just get a bad imei tmobile, unlock and use on AT&T.

If only it were that easy.
Until I can confirm, I found another thread reporting success in Ohio. Not sure what band they're on, though. Click Here

No? Read something that they share the same imei database. But I've read of people getting getting it to work =/

To my understanding, if the ESN is bad, it cannot be unlocked.

ESN and IMEI are different.
Once it's not used on the same network you should be able to do it.
So yes I can't get an unlock code via t-mobile but I can get it from an unlocking service online
So. I'm sure everyone here is annoyed of this question. But I can't get a clear answer.
Has root been achieved yet on the AT&T Model?
It's obvious the bootloader isn't going to be unlocked anytime soon. But that doesn't necessarily mean we can't get root..
I've heard somewhere that Kingoroot works but I'm not sure on what version of android and if it actually does work.
I don't mind if I have to downgrade to like 4.4.4 or something, as long as I get root.
No root. Phone is more locked down than a capitol building after a bomb threat.

This will be the last AT&T phone I buy. I have an old contract that has 2 year upgrades. They are refusing to upgrade and quickly offered to let me out of my unlimited data plan. If they won't subsidize the phone I have no reason to buy from them when unlocked devices can be purchased for the same price.
Agreed... since Note 4 is the only Note (to my knowledge) that is being used by the Federal government under contract, they have locked it down tight and permanent root will *never* be possible. I am personally waiting for the new Note (6 or 7 or whatever they want to call it) to come out, and hopefully the Feds will not pick it up, so we can root it.

unacceptable
this is the last time i get hoodwinked by att, ive got 4 months left and then i can add the monthly payments for this piece of trash to my new *unlocked* phone budget
Ugh
Every thread, someone comes in and complains about how this will be their last ATT or Samsung phone because there is no root. If that's your decision, then that's fine, and I'm not against you (I'd honestly never buy one again too, but I can't afford +/-$800 international version phones and ATT has the best signal here in the country where I live), but there's no need in coming into threads and poluting them with the same comments over and over again. I mean, this thread is now off topic since the OP was only asking whether or not root was acheived. That's it.

you cant afford to save up $800 (which by the way would get you an INCREADIBLE phone from anyone OTHER than samsung or apple) but you can afford to be on the hook, paying $18-32 PER month for the forseeable future? do you smoke or drink coffee? cause either of those is another $4-9 a day ($120-270 PER month)
and this is the first post i have made in almost 2 years, i came in to see if there was root for the Note 4, saw there wasnt and expressed my opinion, i dont know what communist country youre from but here in america thats kinda my right so go untwist your panties on someone else
I love how you immediately assume I'm from a communist country and then claim to be from America and hint at how it's better than my country... especially since I'm also from the US. So since my country is communist, are you saying that America is communist?!?!
I also love how you immediately took offense to my post and assumed that I was talking to you directly when I never quoted you, nor ANYONE directly. I never said anything like YOU are coming into these threads and posting the same stuff. What I said was that whenever someone makes a thread related to root, the thread immediately turns into a whine - fest of people complaining about how they'll never buy another ATT or Samsung phone again. The other thing I said was that because of the whine - fest that's starting up here, this thread is now going off topic from what the OP originally asked. His question has been answered and unless he has additional questions, this thread is done.
Finally, yeah, I do drink coffee. So what? What does a cup of frickin Folgers have to do with how much money I make and can afford to spend up front?
