Has root been achieved by anyone yet? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

So. I'm sure everyone here is annoyed of this question. But I can't get a clear answer.
Has root been achieved yet on the AT&T Model?
It's obvious the bootloader isn't going to be unlocked anytime soon. But that doesn't necessarily mean we can't get root..
I've heard somewhere that Kingoroot works but I'm not sure on what version of android and if it actually does work.
I don't mind if I have to downgrade to like 4.4.4 or something, as long as I get root.

No root. Phone is more locked down than a capitol building after a bomb threat.

This will be the last AT&T phone I buy. I have an old contract that has 2 year upgrades. They are refusing to upgrade and quickly offered to let me out of my unlimited data plan. If they won't subsidize the phone I have no reason to buy from them when unlocked devices can be purchased for the same price.

Agreed... since Note 4 is the only Note (to my knowledge) that is being used by the Federal government under contract, they have locked it down tight and permanent root will *never* be possible. I am personally waiting for the new Note (6 or 7 or whatever they want to call it) to come out, and hopefully the Feds will not pick it up, so we can root it.

unacceptable
this is the last time i get hoodwinked by att, ive got 4 months left and then i can add the monthly payments for this piece of trash to my new *unlocked* phone budget

Ugh
Every thread, someone comes in and complains about how this will be their last ATT or Samsung phone because there is no root. If that's your decision, then that's fine, and I'm not against you (I'd honestly never buy one again too, but I can't afford +/-$800 international version phones and ATT has the best signal here in the country where I live), but there's no need in coming into threads and poluting them with the same comments over and over again. I mean, this thread is now off topic since the OP was only asking whether or not root was acheived. That's it.

you cant afford to save up $800 (which by the way would get you an INCREADIBLE phone from anyone OTHER than samsung or apple) but you can afford to be on the hook, paying $18-32 PER month for the forseeable future? do you smoke or drink coffee? cause either of those is another $4-9 a day ($120-270 PER month)
and this is the first post i have made in almost 2 years, i came in to see if there was root for the Note 4, saw there wasnt and expressed my opinion, i dont know what communist country youre from but here in america thats kinda my right so go untwist your panties on someone else

I love how you immediately assume I'm from a communist country and then claim to be from America and hint at how it's better than my country... especially since I'm also from the US. So since my country is communist, are you saying that America is communist?!?!
I also love how you immediately took offense to my post and assumed that I was talking to you directly when I never quoted you, nor ANYONE directly. I never said anything like YOU are coming into these threads and posting the same stuff. What I said was that whenever someone makes a thread related to root, the thread immediately turns into a whine - fest of people complaining about how they'll never buy another ATT or Samsung phone again. The other thing I said was that because of the whine - fest that's starting up here, this thread is now going off topic from what the OP originally asked. His question has been answered and unless he has additional questions, this thread is done.
Finally, yeah, I do drink coffee. So what? What does a cup of frickin Folgers have to do with how much money I make and can afford to spend up front?

Buying a DINC2, Question for VZW Employee about Froyo/GB

I am getting ready to upgrade to a DINC2. I have been reading up on the threads about the phones coming pre-loaded with GB. Is there a way to tell if one phone is Froyo vs. GB? Is there a date stamp/code on the box that may let you know that one was shipped prior to when VZW started loading GB?
... What's the question?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
Sorry, hit Enter on accident and it posted the thread before I could get out what I wanted to ask.
No. Nothing on the box or anything. You can go into 'about phone'>'software version'> and there you can see if it's Android version 2.2.1 or 2.3.4.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't go into a store and ask a salesman to check, but I do know a guy who just started working at VZW. However, he's not up on this stuff.
Just be your own consumer advocate, let them know you want a phone with 2.2. If they ask why, you can tell them or you can say it is not their business but I would definitely stand up for myself. Or possibly just lie to them and tell them you have an app required for work that is not compatible with GB. Be creative, they'll most likely give you what you want if you are polite yet assertive. And as always if it has GB and you aren't happy with it you can return it.
I'm an indirect agent for Verizon, living in Birmingham, AL... the Inc2s we have are all 2.2 out of the box (at least this first batch from our distributed is).
let me know if you're interested...
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Unfortunately you can be as assertive as you like but it depends all on the shipment no matter a corporate store or indirect agent they have no control over what software the device has in it stock

Every one of them at my local VZ store is GB :-( so now I'm just waiting on a software S-off method lol.. Waiting. And waiting.

I don't really see what the necessity is to be secretive about why you want a device with 2.2. The guy I've talked to at my local Verizon store has a rooted Droid X and was all too happy to talk about root related things. Based on what I've seen from other people's experiences, it's not a unique situation. Most people that work for Verizon probably have at least some enthusiasm for tech and cell phones, and with android in particular, root and ROMs are part of that.

I have to respectuflly disagree. Having been a vzw customer for 10+ years I have heard many times 'thats not up to us,' 'we can't control that' etc. If you keep escalating you will get someone that can help you. They obviously still have Inc2 units with 2.2 and you will find someone that can get you one if you make it known that you know whats up and they can't push you around. Also they are generally much more helpful over the phone than in the store.
if you're still within your 14 days, return it where you got it, and I'll process your upgrade / new line with a spankin new Droid incredible 2 running 2.2... I'll ship it to you. or if you want to drive to Alabama... whichever's easier for you ;-)

That's not how it works. Inventory managers are pressured to get old inventory off of shelves ASAP. Reps are told to sell the phones that have been on the shelves longer first.
That being said, I haven't even seen any 2.3 Inc2's in my market. I would never had known they were shipping 2.3 devices if it weren't for XDA, lol. Anyway, reps are usually cool with rooting and will look to see which version is present on the device.

That may not be how it works from your perspective, but a customer has plenty of leverage and this is after all a service industry. We can agree to disagree but I've seen plenty of examples of them bending over backwards for a competent and polite customer.
Either way, I think it is in the OP's best interest to let them know what he wants and be assertive.
Thanks for all of the replies, they have been helpful. I will hit up a few different stores (VZW and Dealers) to see if I can find one with Froyo. After getting root for the Eris, I can't imagine having another phone without it.
-Z
Do you have a Costco near by? I picked up the DI2 last Saturday for $30 and it still has Froyo. You can almost guarantee that anything from VZ will be updated. And if it isn't they will try to update it when they activate the phone. The Costco guy tried because as soon as he turned on the phone it wanted to update. I simply told him no, I plan on rooted the phone so do not accept the update. He shrugged and handed me the device.
Unfortunately, there is no Costco nearby. There is a Sam's Club and I think they are running a deal on the DINC2s, maybe they will still have some with Froyo.
I have been checking a couple of third party retailers like Sam's and Costco. When they upgrade you from one Android to another are they doing it with your current plan setup? Mainly I am concerned about retaining unlimited data. I understand that we are "grandfathered" in if you had it prior to July 2011. Sometimes I notice, it almost seems like they are not "carrying over" your old plan so to speak but signing you up for the comparable one that is in the system now.
I don't know about Sams Club but Costco just renews your current plan. They treat it the same as if you went into Verizon
Thanks for the reply. One last question, at what point during the activation process does the phone try to update to GB? Or did you just let the guy know ahead of time not to update it?
Thanks

Rant Here about Verizon not giving a date and pushing this back every week

now im not on verizon and the only reason im coming over is for this phone. (BE WARNED - RANT COMING)
I've been on sprint for about 10 years now, the past 3 years i have been on an employee plan paying 30$/month for unlimited everything. The sad thing is, i feel bad for the people paying full price on sprint because im located in Rochester NY and sprint service should be great here but i rarely get service indoor's recently. 4G is a joke and Rochester was one of the first places to get it turned on. So im happy to move to a better network and brought myself to pay the extra $ for the service.... so enough about how sprints network is going down hill and on to how Verizon F***ED this launch up royally.
Maybe i hate Verizon for not mentioning a word about this phone. Maybe its because the Galaxy Nexus has been out for almost a month overseas. Maybe its because i feel like not only have i been waiting for this phone but i've also been waiting for Google to release an exciting new OS. Maybe it's the fact that i KNOW this phone can compete in the market as one of the best phones and not to mention its the flagship phone from Google that can kick start features like NFC and such. but then i think to myself... What did i just see when i turned on the TV or when i went to that website. ADs for the RAZR... THE RAZR.... ARE U KIDDING ME?
okay okay, i understand, back in 2003 it was the coolest phone on the block. TIMES HAVE CHANGED, Verizon knewwwwww they were getting the Nexus, and they hate they can't call it Droid. the name droid (personal opinion) is UGLY. Im not saying Galaxy Nexus is any better but i dont want to feel like i have a robot in my pocket. The Razr just came at the wrong time and VZ spent to much money with s$itty advertising like they always do.
I was really really hoping to see some type of great marketing strategy by verizon starting this week. Something along the lines of this:
Mon Night Football. 5 to 10 second commercial, completely white background and just out the nexus right in the middle of the high def screen. no music. mahyeb a piano key or smething, with just a shot of this beauty... then at the very end, flash Verizon so people know, that phone is coming to VZ, wow!!?? (and yes i would love to see a "with Google" slapped in there somewhere but we all know Verizon would have a heart attack promoting anyone but themselves)
and keep showing the commercial every day with a count down until the release date (which i was hoping the 9th) so it would have been even sweeter to see that commercial knowing i can freakin get that this week!?!
people know the verizon brand, they like the verizon brand becuase its associated with a good network. FOCUS ON YOUR PRODUCT, THE BEST ONE U HAVE. make people say, woahhhhhh what was that???? and im not talking about the people like us who wait and wait and wait knowing we will hold out for this, im talking about your average consumer, the one who see's a product and says, damn thats good looking, i WANT that. i WANT THAT NEOWWWZ!
(hell i even made a s$hitty youtube video to get my point across)
but no. No commercials, no internet Ad's, only one spot on thier website to put your email in a box (which NO ONE likes giving out) for more information....
Verizon, you messed up. You had a chance to make a boat load even more of cash and you missed out. im not even your customer yet and i dread the fact ill be stuck with you for two years.
and now we have this, no Google wallet. im highly confident once developers get their hands on this phone they will find a way to make it work, but instead Verizon points the finger and says its not them. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD GOOGLE NOT WANT TO HELP ITS OWN NEW SERVICE?!? It just doesnt make sense.........
alright, i just blacked out with anger/frustration while typing this so i hope it makes sense and i hope other people see what im seeing...
oh, and one last note.. This ones for you Google. i hope you paid attention to this whole launch. i hope you learned your leson about dancing with the RED DEVIL. They will take your masterpiece and piss all over it.
In my opinion the main problem with this launch is that Google and Samsung allowed Verizon to take control of it. I hate to compare to Apple, but they take full control of their product launches and do not allow the carriers to tamper in any way. Samsung and Google should have grown some balls and had the phone launched their way. If Verizon did not want to play ball then they just release the unlocked version here as they did in the past.
Cool story bro. Lol @ video. Lame but funny.

Hmm, that's weird. My company spends just shy of $100k a year on Verizon devices (somewhere around ~800 lines currently)...and my rep is just as unable to get one to sell as anyone else.
And he is the rep for 5 other companies around our size.
I think there's a much better chance you're a Verizon employee or were able to play with one in the immediate vicinity.
Your bigger rant should be how a company the size of VZW can hose their entire LTE network with each introduction of a new device.

Yeah, and you can bet that the resolution will be quiet and nothing else ever said of this outage.
"Isolated" will be the spin. I was going to head over to Verizon and eBay the GSM GNEX I have, but I just can't fork over $85 for a tiered plan when I have unlimited on ATT for $40 after taxes (2nd line on plan).
Oh well.

Not saying I necessarily don't believe you, just saying the "don't sell yet" thing is pretty hard...they probably aren't even allowing the devices to activate on the network yet.
Beyond that, not a single person knows the date it's releasing now. The update said "indefinite", meaning nobody knows for sure. It's just suspected for next week, at the moment.

I disagree.
Seriously. Think about it from Verizon's perspective. Why would they put money and advertising behind the Nexus phone when they have the Rezound and Razr that just came out and are of similar specs? They control the user experience on those devices and can put their subscription apps preloaded on them. Not true with the Galaxy Nexus. Of course they're going to market the hell out of the devices that make them more money.
That said, I agree that Samsung/Google should have taken more charge with this launch. Nexus devices are about no compromise, pure Android experiences, and no carrier/OEM tampering. What I've seen of the Verizon version has contradicted this in a few ways before the phone is even out. Makes me very happy I got the GSM version. But at least the LTE one is unlocked and there will be plenty of ROMs and support for it.

[Q] Bricked S3 after failed ROM flash

Okay, so I previously have had Cyanogen Mod on my S3, last night I got a bit bored and said, what the heck, let's find something new, so then I found zMod, I downloaded it and was getting ready to flash it onto my phone, I then went into recovery and wiped my SD Card, factory reset, etc. Unfortunatly that wiped my .zip on my SD Card, so I used ADB t oget it back using adb push path\to\file /sdcard/ I then restarted my device and updated from zip, I then got some strange error like could not write, so I attempted to reboot my phone into recovery again, unfortunatly it never vibrated and the screen never turned on. Something strange though, if I plug it into my computer after turning it on (No vibration or screen on) it recognizes it as "QHSUSB_DLOAD"
Specifics:
OS: Windows 8 x64
CWM: I think it was version 6.something
Thanks for any help you can provide me, I have had the phone for 3-4 months, if worst comes to worst should I attempt to do a warranty claim with Samsung or Sprint?
Sounds like you flashed an international ROM, no fix for that except a JTAG as far as I am aware.
Yeah Zmod is an international zip.

So do I just tell them upfront what I did or do I say it shut down during an update or something? Also does that require I have some kind of replacement plan, or is it for anyone with a phone with them. Thanks, I should be more careful with these things, I should of probably looked into it a bit more.
Ok, I'm gonna jump in here before this thread gets out of hand (seen it happen to the last 3 threads like this one)
First of, you've had the phone for a couple (3-4) months. Sprint's warranty covers only 15 days, if I recall correctly. Taking it back to the store will do nothing for you.
If you have TEP, then you can claim this on that, but you'll have to pay the $150 deductible. It's pricey but they'll get you a new phone the next day. A lot of people here on xda will recommend that. But there are also people on here that say that claims like this only drive up deductibles for the rest of us. I'll get into that later.
Last thing you can do is a JTAG repair. There are companies that do it for $60, but they take 3-5 business days. Just do a Google search for "JTAG repair S3" and you see it. It's the thing I would recommend, and I'll say why.
By flashing roms, mods, and kernels, we're voiding our warranty. No ifs ands or buts. We need to take responsibility for our mistakes and pay whatever price it is for them. By trying to return it to Sprint, you're basically pushing the cost of your mistake onto them, who then have to push it onto the rest of us. I remember when Sprint's TEP was only a $50 deductible for smartphones, not $150. This price increase is increased mostly due to claims like yours (and increased phone prices, but not as much as you'd think).
I think everyone here would say it's best to learn from our mistakes. In my opinion, the best way to do that is to actually pay the price for them. Pushing that price onto others just teaches us that we can avoid the consequences of our actions.
This is not a personal attack, just my thoughts on the matter. And in a few hours there will be much more people posting less polite responses than mine, so just a heads up.
Ok, end of rant.

Yea, I understand what you mean, I'm just trying to see my options. Do you know of any good places to do the JTAG?
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/
This place has gotten decent reviews here on xda. I haven't used them, but if you search xda for the name, you should see a number of threads with satisfied customers. From what I've seen, a fairly quick turnaround unless they're unusually busy.

Okay, thanks. Just hopefully it will be a well-spent $60. My mom's gonna be pissed, but hopefully this will teach me to be more cautious when doing such delicate things
RiotShielder said:
So do I just tell them upfront what I did or do I say it shut down during an update or something? Also does that require I have some kind of replacement plan, or is it for anyone with a phone with them. Thanks, I should be more careful with these things, I should of probably looked into it a bit more.

I would just tell them it shut off some representatives will just tell you no and you don't need any kind of protection plan if you pay the $35 fee but if you do have a protection plan it will be free

First off the 15 day warranty will terminate your contract early and they take you phone away and that's not what were talking about anyway. Because sprint WILL replace your phone no matter how old it is you just have to pay $35 unless of course it has physical damage, cracked screen, broken charger port etc...
Second the TEP covers software and battery issues you ONLY need to pay 150 if its physically damaged and that's the ONLY reason you make a claim otherwise if you have TEP and bricked your phone all they need to do is verify the phone won't boot and they will replace it the next day. Many people are confused about these two things but I know this cuz I replaced my phone many times lol I have bad luck with sprint phones -_-
Third I would only recommend JTAG if sprint denied you or charging you more because it has physical damage and your willing to not have your phone for about a week. In my opinion that would be my last option but chances are sprint will replace your phone for $35 its theyre policy

I'm not blaming the dev of zMod in any way, as I should of verified it worked with my phone first; but should he not of put something like "This is for xxx phones only" just to help prevent this happening?
I realized it was posted in the international phone version forums, but I would think they would point it out again.

Why would they point out that a rom in the international forum is for an international device? I'm pretty sure the rom zip had the device number listed in the name.

From reading this thread I understand your young. But things are written for a reason. Learn a valuable lesson if something is in the Sprint Development section it's for Sprint, if it's in the Verizon Development section it's for Verizon products if it's in the International section it's for International devices.
That's why there are different sections on xda for different devices, different manufacturer and different carriers. If you would have read a little more there are usually 4 or 5 of these threads a week where someone bricked their phone flashing an international rom but had no problem finding the right section when they broke it.
I'm pretty sure this thread will be locked soon enough. But welcome to flashing 101, rule #1 if your on a Sprint variant stick to the threads that say Sprint Development.

Actually I found zMod from CNet, I didn't notice that it was in the international forum until after I had posted this topic.

Throwing in the towel. Who's with me?

I keep getting the Note 4 910a (3x) hoping that the locked down everything won't bother me. It does... a lot.
My 14 day return ends on 1/16/15. I ordered the n910c yesterday, and expect it to arrive 1/13/15 at the latest. I did quite a bit of research, and found that the N910c/f/t should, in theory, work on AT&T with no issues. They seem to have all of the bands required. T-Mobile refuses to sell me a phone without signing up with them, so it came down to c and f. For those who don't know, C and F are almost the same with the exception of c having Exynos, and f having snapdragon. I was surprised that the exynos seems to support AT&T LTE. Anyway, I chose the 910c, because the exynos chip is supposed to be faster, and use less battery, and was cheaper. Plus there is a glimmer of hope that 64 bit will be unlocked on it once lollipop is released on it. I will come back here, and let you guys know how the switch went once I get my phone.
For those of you who choose to stay behind, I hope that you gain root, but I doubt it will happen since all of the devs seem to have moved on.
"Egocentric", I love posts like these, no one cares if you stay or you go, you contribute nothing as far as development to the device, no one will morn you or the other people like you. Leave and don't fill up the device thread with crap like this. To anyone else thinking of posting an, 'I'm leaving, follow me or stay with an unrooted phone forever', do us all a favor and choke on your phone... This phone performs fantastically as is, we are also able to do non root related adjustments to help with battery and so on. Buy a tablet and flash that to scratch the itch. /rant

"Jerk". Do you think that talking to people like that will get you some sort of XDA cred? Last I checked, the General forum for 910A wasn't very full at all. If anything, a new thread should be welcomed. The point of this was to not only express my distaste for a locked device, but to help point others towards a more open device. That is why I mentioned more than just the device I chose. I actually listed the 3 that I believe to be fully compatible with AT&T's network. I won't be choking on my new phone, and suggesting I do so, only makes you sound butt hurt, cuz you couldn't afford to buy one outright. So why don't you do us all a favor, and stop making your obvious envy more obvious, and stop wasting space on my thread.
To anyone else; I'll still report back to confirm that the N910C does in fact work on AT&T. I noticed my 910A is picking up 17. So I can't confirm 4 until I find an area.
The troll will pursue until the end of time.....

Yeah, no one cares if you leave. This post is just showing how much of a spoiled, impatient consumer you are. Carry on.
I don't have a problem with this guy's thread, it is extremely frustrating and he wants a place to vent about it.
I am still on the fence. My original decision was to go with the Nexus 6, but the complaint list on reddit about the software and hardware of that phone have turned me off. I love AT&T and have been with them for a long time, but I am considering switching to the Sprint Note 4, they have a much better deal than AT&T anyways.
For now I am going to continue to hold off until March to see if the price drops because I still love the Note 2 and am not in a hurry to upgrade. Since I really would like to stay with AT&T I have disabled all of my favorite xposed mods and am pretty much running stock 4.4.2 DN3. I think I could live without root on the Note 4, aside from that stupid ass AT&T logo in the top left of the screen. Highly annoying.
I'd just get a bad imei tmobile, unlock and use on AT&T.

ESN and IMEI are different.
Once it's not used on the same network you should be able to do it.
So yes I can't get an unlock code via t-mobile but I can get it from an unlocking service online

Just Bought a Verizon Note 4 ... Did I Make a Terrible Mistake?

I already have a Note 3 but would love to try a Gear VR. Finally found an okay price for a Note 4 on craigslist today and was excited to give it a go. I'm on tmobile but my verizon Note 3 functions just fine so I thought I'd "upgrade."
So far ... I kind of hate it.
The fact that this phone can't be rooted (because of Verizon?) wouldn't be quite so depressing if it weren't for the hideous pastel colors staring me in the face every time I pull down the tool bar or open a menu ... Yes I've installed a custom launcher but it doesn't change the 80's era color scheme ... This is 2015. I can't choose the background color on my own damn phone? Really?
I had my Note 3 setup the way I wanted it to look with a rom that gave me a lot of options, and going from having control over aesthetics to having basically no control over them is a shock. Like moving from a house you own and can paint any color you want to an awful pastel apartment that you can't paint because the landlord won't let you.
The lockscreen. I liked the option on my Note 3 to pick the effect when unlocking my phone. The rippling water effect was my favorite. Now I have ... no such option? The choice to change it seems to be grayed out?
The heat. Running low graphic Cardboard apps and the back of this phone seems to be getting awfully warm awfully fast. Haven't tried anything really intensive yet but I'm already worried about heat.
Speed. Not notably faster (no pun intended) than my customized Note 3. Apps that were slow on the 3 ... are still slow on this phone. Menus seem to open at about the same speed or possibly even slower.
Pixel density. I thought having a higher resolution screen would mean less visible picture structure ... Not really seeing it. I can look at my two phones side by side and unless I zoom in, there is not that much visible difference in image quality, except ...
The one good thing:
The camera. Took a couple of photos and am really impressed by the amount of detail that shows up. Definitely a big leap over the camera in my Note 3 ...
But ... I'm thinking maybe I should sell this to someone else on craigslist and go back to my Note 3.
Anyone else have a similar reaction? Am I missing something here?
Honestly only you can answer that question. In regards to root, only DE have it as far as I know for any carrier. If you HAVE to have root, then it might have been a mistake.

Actually the Note 4 on Sprint and T-Mobile are both rootable. Verizon and AT&T are the a**holes here. Actually @Haints you just made the same mistake most other people did. You didn't do the research before you spent your money. Because I've been practically living in this forum for 4 years I've seen the day when Verizon would lock a phone down to where nobody would be able to root it coming. I bought a Note 4 Developer Edition.
What a terrible corporate policy. WHY do they do that? Well, I've learned my lesson. I will never buy a Verizon phone again. ( Scratch that. Sounds like you never really "own" a Verizon phone to begin with, since they lock it down to keep the OS the way they want it. I will never ... rent a Verizon phone again?)
I did figure out how to change the lock option, and I do like the phone, apart from the choices I'm locked out of ... but having freely owned a phone before, I can't forget what that feels like. So f*ck Verizon.
And yes, Stuey, I did err by not doing my research here. The Verizon Note popped up on craigslist at a good price and I jumped at it. My mistake.
Thanks to you both for responding!

You're not the only one. It's heartbreaking to see this happen to so many people. The Verizon Note 4 forums are depressing. Pretty much all of us plan to leave Verizon someday. The only reason I'm still with them is T-Mo and Sprint suck so bad around here. I'm just hoping for them to improve some.
The reason they do it is because locking them makes them more secure. All of the big corporate and government accounts like them that way. Hackers are becoming more of a problem. Verizon makes a lot of extra money because they are more secure than the others. We'll probably all lose our rootable phones soon.

I've already given up.
I've been stuck with the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 ever since it launched last year...I bought it right as it came out, expecting that it would get root at some point like previous phones.
Every single day I've visited these forums, patiently waiting for a permanent root. I have so much pent-up frustration over waiting that I recently splurged on a 128 GB Frost Huawei Nexus 6P and permanently canceled my Verizon contract. I gave up.
I've been a loyal Verizon customer since 2007 with previous phones rooted and I just couldn't stand it anymore. I'm sick of being treated like a child not being able to do what I want with a phone that I purchased with MY money.
I hope they realize that they're going to be losing loyal customers like me at a rapid pace over digging their heels on this ridiculous policy.
I preordered the retail version at upgrade price ($300) and sold it a month later for $590 after giving up on waiting for root. Then paid an extra $110 for the developer edition. So I paid for a developer edition for $410 instead of $700. I wish I thought about this once I got the phone to sell it for more but overall I still came out on top. The DE Note 4 is the best phone out right now on Verizon. Nothing compares, yet. And I still have unlimited data but I hear they are changing the price to $50 a month for people who are grandfathered in D:

Unfortunately, VZW doesn't care. People who root their devices make up a small percentage of their customers. VZW is more concerned about promoting safety and security.
I was an iPhone user up to the release of iPhone 6. Decided to get Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (verizon) because of easy access to change battery. (As each new iPhone model made seems to make it more difficult.) I've had the Note for over a year. I keep telling myself that I'll get used to it. I haven't yet. I hate it! I fight with it every time I want to do a simple task. On top of how confusing it is to use compared to iPhone. Battery drains fast. Screen turns on randomly. And now any app I try to install from google play AND amazon app, it just hangs saying, "installing.........."-google play. And "install pending........"-amazon. It's been like that for 48 hours now. WTH? I have 10 gigs free'd up. I restarted app, restarted phone tried searching Forums. YES, I hate this phone. And if Samsung drops support on this phone, I'm going to drop my support for Samsung products.
Yeah you screwed up just like the rest of us. I came from ATT, who are assholes by the way, and am pretty much gonna dump Verizon when my contract is up. I will buy my own phones from now on, no more carrier branded, locked out , **** phones like this one. The Note 4, when locked down, is actually a turd. its slow, it crashes and pretty much just all around sucks. Root would make this a great phone, but there will never be root until long after this phone is ancient and useless.
They say Android 6 will fix the issues that Android 5 caused. The Note 4 with Android 4.4 ran good. The latest word is Android 6 will come in February.
