So I got root. Ran Clockwork Mod. Backed up to the SD card. Rebooted.
Now I'm stuck between the Clockwork recovery screen (if I power/camera/volume down) and another apparent recovery screen (regular power on) that says in blue "Android system recovery (2e)" and at the bottom, in yellow, "# Manual Mode #" . . .
I'm not able to get out of these two screens. I've pulled the battery and the card, chosen the "reboot" option, chosen the "restore" option (CWM), etc.
Can anyone help me get my phone working again?
Thanks in advance!
I would odin back to stock if you can get into dl mode
Can you reflash your ROM in the CWM? If not then Odin or Heimdall would be easiest then restore your backup.
Thanks guys. I used Odin - lost all my data (which I was of course trying to avoid), but got my phone back.
So, I've learned 2 valuable things here:
1. I was able to get root (sort of).
2. I was able to recover my phone (but not my data).
Does anyone have an idea as to how I got stuck in that loop in the first place - and, more to the point, how I can get past it so I can actually use my phone after I get root?
Although I'm very busy (work full-time, school full-time), I'm willing to make a reasonable donation to someone who's able to spend a little time to get me off and running.
Use odin to install something thats pre rooted like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1221614
Your situation is kind of unique. But as mentioned above Odining a prerooted ROM will help. Didn't you say you backed up before all this happened? Why did you lose your data? Root and restore.

Thanks, I did get most of my stuff back. I'm still kind of a n00b at this, so it wasn't apparent until I started looking for it. I thought it was gone because my apps were, and I hadn't yet reupped gmail, so my contacts list wasn't apparent. In the end, other than having to remember all the apps I wanted to get back, the only real disappointment was that I lost my place in the game Big Time Gangsta, so I had to start over. I was up to level 53!
In reality, though, the only thing that was super important to me, my contacts, came back. So I'm a pretty happy camper. I was also able to Odin up that rooted Gingerbread and, to top it off, I now have a free tether hooked up and working - my rationale for rooting the phone in the first place.
I do appreciate everyone's help. Sure I'll be back with more questions!
Marco
Glad we could help

I have held vol. up, home key, and power,, The Samsung logo comes on then.... screen flickers/flashes..... then the screen shows Samsung again like "sung sam" like the display is offset ,,then the screen goes black..
im trying to do a reset on the cache because my " menu and back" keys are not working , only the "home" i was told by doing the cache thing,,
that it will work...
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO OF ANY KIND?? i really don't want to send the phone to Samsung,, they will charge me a arm and leg!!
please help!!!!
also i traded and phone and a set of wheels for this phone, he told me the back and menu didn't work!! i was hoping for an easy fix!! THANKS!! "BOA"
Well ...an easy fix may not be in your future ...but I'll take a stab at it ...
First ...if you are unable to boot into your recovery ...then let the guessing begin as to what has happened there...so I suggest the following..
Factory restore the device using Odin while in download mode...(volume down, Home, and power buttons.)
There is a sticky thread in the general section explaining this..
The buttons not working does not bode well for your phone as you may have a digitizer issue...but a factory restore will provide that answer for you once completed...
Go "slowly" and read every step of the restore process to avoid mistakes...
And make sure that all of the software is correct before using it...
The "return to stock" thread has everything you need to perform a full restore on the device...and if you have an incorrect rom or kernel ...then the fix should correct your problem..
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of read, read, reading every single part of the process...
I'll get you the link ...stand by...g
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844
Okay ....make sure you have the SGH-I317 device only for the above method...otherwise ...you'll end up with a paperweight...
(Other methods are available for other devices...but this method is for the I317...)
Read everything before proceeding...and good luck...
If the link opened on the last page of the thread then go to the first page and begin there...g

Ohk, so first off all, go to www.sammobile.com and search for firmware tab there, click on it, then type in your device's model number in the search box on middle of the page and select firmware of your country and download it (note: you would need to sign up there to download, it's free to sign up there) and extract it to some location (say c:/tab/)
Now when you have downloaded the firmware (now I will refer it as FW), search and download Odin flash tool(version 3.1,or any other will work too) in there just click on ap button and select the md5 file extracted from the zip you downloaded,
It will take a few seconds to verify the md5 and after it is done verifying, you are ready to flash!
You will need to go to download mode, if u dint know how to enter download mode then here's how to, press and hold volume down+home+power keys for some time (if the device is on then you will need holds them fit about 10 seconds, it will reboot to download mode) it will come up with a screen saying "WARNING! FLASHING CUSTOM ROM CAN HAM DEVICE and blah blah" , just press volume up to continue
As I just read, you are already in download mode (Odin mode and download mode are one and the same thing) you can skip the above step, you can not get out of it without pulling battery, and as we can't pull battery of tab, you will need to flash anything to get out of it (remember, flagging wrong thing might brick your device)
And keep in mind that as the process will take about 15 minutes, so you should have enough battery to run it for about 1 hour, I prefer having at least 40%battery
When you enter download mode, connect you device to computer using USB cable and Ogden should say added in the box present in it, and there are some boxes on the upper side of Odin, 2 lines of boxes , one have big boxes aligned and other have rectangular boxes aligned below the bigger ones, the first rectangular box should turn "light blue" in color and it confirms that your device is connected!
Now see if re-partition is not checked, if it is checked and you start the process then you will brick your device instantly! If, but any ways, it is checked, then uncheck it and click start, it will take some time to finish the process, may be around 10-15 minutes, and after that you will be booted to android os! You can now use your device as it was before all the mess you created!
Go ahead and try this, it should work and bring your device back to life and just saying that, if by any means or any problem occurred and your device is not working anymore, don't point the figure at me, because I can only tell what to do, it's your choice to opt it or not
But there's only 0.001% chance that anything may go wrong, unless you unplug the cable in between the process of flashing
If the process don't help in once, just redo the process of flashing again and if it again don't work, just factory reset it and it should not to android
First boot will take some time, about 2-3 minutes, so don't panic, just keep calm
Hit thanks of I helped

In My opinion, yes or no, if you found anything that says it can retrieve things after format then you can always go ahead and try it out, the worst can happen is you get in a bootloop or someway you won't be able to boot to android, and as now you have what it takes to recover from that(my above post) , you are ready to take the risk!
I dint think there's an app (yet) that can recover data after format on Android, there's a software for Windows that can recover data after deleting them, but not after format
As formatting android don't actually format the drive, I think we can retrieve data, but I had not found any app for that yet
Just to tell you, the difference between permanent delete and format is that, permanent delete deletes the data but can not delete the signature of the files, and a file can be recovered by just it's signature, and formatting deletes all the signatures from the drive,
Some times, files can be recovered also after format, that can happen if you don't format all the drives, the files do create there signatures in other drives too!
So, good luck for finding a solution for recovering files after factory formatting, and I would like to request you that if you find a working solution then please share, it might help anyone!

I have a Korea F400L in which i had installed Sphynx rom.
after reading for a few weeks I decided to install the proper version of cloudy g3 1.2, which booted rather normally.
after asking a few questions about overclocking i got a few recommendations about the F400-RIN 1.7,
so I flash this kernel and somehow i lost EVERYTHING.
now when i boot, i get a GREEN SCREEN WITH THE FOLLOWING
DemiGod Crash Handler : Apps watchdog bark !
Press key to choose Dload Mode or Reboot
1) volume Up : Dload Mode
2) Volume Down : Reboot
If you choose Dload Mode
Please do following action
1) Dload Mode, Please connect USB
2) Get the ram dump image using QPST Configuration
Board Info - rev : 1..1 speed, pvs : 3.5 serial : 09b66e1b60e36d28
The model number used in this country is the D851 so help for the F400 does not exist.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME REVIVE MY BELOVED PHONE.
I BEG YOU GUYS, I AM EVEN WILLING TO SHIP IT TO WHOMEVER CAN FEEL CAPABLE OF HELPING.
I am 70 retired disabled and just cant afford another phone right now.
AGAIN I AM BEGGING YOU GUYS PLEASE TRY TO FIND IT IN YOUR HEARTS TO HELP.
I am willing to pay for it if whomever amongst you feel able to repair it
I am keeping my fingers crossed for the good hearted specially in this season
THANK YOU AND HOPE TO FIND THE PROPER SOLUTION
Just reboot into recovery and restore a backup. To get into recovery, power off phone. Then press power and volume down, when you see LG screen release buttons and then press and hold power and volume down again.
As p70shooter already sad, you can go to custom recovery.. After you enter custom recovery, if you don't have backup, connection with PC will work and you can upload some new ROM and flash it.
let me know if you can manage this on your own otherwise happy to get on skype with you and talk u through
not good
I can't go into recovery at all
at best i can go into download, flashtool starts "sometimes" it will reach 2% sometimes it will reach 4% then ALWAYS it will tell me phone unplugged try again.
Also at the green screen with the big message I posted before, if i push volume up with the flash tool it ALSO will say starting upload and ALSO dies at 4%
don't know what else, i have a tot file, i will see if i can use it instead of the kdz
please some one, on top of this, i buy another g3 on monday and the jerk hasn't shipped and i guess he thinks he's gone with my money, too bad he
doesn't know that paypal is kinda nasty with thieves, i know i'll get my money back but do i need the hassle,
thanks for anyone's help

I have a Korea F400L, I used for a while the Sphynx rom and then switched after following several reviews the Cloudy G3 1.2, Then after requesting comments flashed the proper F400 RIN 1.7 kernel. at this moment ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.
When I boot I get a green screen with the message
Apps Watchdog Bark
DemiGod Crash Handler : Apps Watchdog Bark
:ress key to choose Dload Mode or Reboot
1) Volume Up : Dload Mode

etc etc.
I have read that pushing up+power or up +down combinations -= BOTTOM LINE NOTHING REVIVES IT
In this country the model in use is the D851 so I am out of luck.
I am willing to ship AND PAY to whoever is capable and willing to help this 70 year old retired partially disabled.
Please in the spirit of the holidays can anyone try to find it in his heart to help,
I would be so grateful if i find the true directions. I know I am not the only idiot that fell in this but I also know quite a few people succeeded in fixing
I have the original KZD file if it helps, also the LG flashing toold just not the proper guidance

If you have the original proper KDZ for your F400L and you can enter download mode successfully, then you should be able to revert it back to stock yourself free of charge! Follow these steps verbatim and you should be good to go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
Edit: I should have mentioned that this is a kernel panic and nothing too serious so long as you're able to enter download mode. The method I linked you to is very simple and brings the phone back to stock (but not on the right path if you want to do over the air updates). If you were Bump'd and had a custom recovery like TWRP or Philz recovery installed, then you should still be able to boot into recovery and restore a backup if you made one or try clearing the cache. Hold the Volume down + Power button upon booting up and it should enter directly into the recovery.
I CAN'T
Neither pressing up/down/power/ or combination thereof makes any change. it reboots, the logo shows and i wind up in the same green screen. at no time since the first time was i able to see any screen EXCEPT THIS DARN GREEN - APPS WATCHDOG BARK - nothing ever more than this, i just plugged it in to the PC. there's no sign of it in DEVICE MANAGER, it's as though it did not exist for windows
please help, please

Authentication for what? When does it ask for that and what steps got you there because I have never seen this using the KDZ method.
Ignore previous
So i start the flash tool and i get to the point where it is chequing the computer it completes the first round then it goes into uploading the software to the fone, it gets

ugrade stopped due to an error,
to try upgrade again, follow the steps below
disconnect phone
instert battery
turn on phone
press retry,
did this 4 times nothing changes
on the box before, where you press start, i pressed check fone, on the top right part
it gave me a message error with imei,
i gotta go to sleep it's 2am and i have a ct scan for tomorrow at 9
please give me more ideas to do wheni come back from the check up
thanks so much please please please do not abandon me
