How to update from old firmware with Root de la Vega? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I know there are posts about going from 4.3 to 5.0, but I have Root de la Vega installed and I've read a lot of warnings about that method of rooting. I currently have xposed running for apps like adaway. I would like to know if it's safe to use ODIN to just update to 5.0. Or do I need to undo ROOT de la Vega first?(if so, how?) ideally I would want to go to the latest stock firmware with root access and also the ability to change firmware if I want a custom one. (i'm not sure if stock firmware has issues with switching to custom)
My other questions are: does it matter if i flip the KNOX bit anymore since my warranty expired? Does anyone even care If I plan on reselling my phone? Does the KNOX bit stops you from doing anything anymore?
Thanks

Just flash to the latest rom via Odin. You may have to perform a factory reset before the stock rom will boot.

would the factory reset remove the root?

Yes, root will be removed.

found a solution. i just follow this guide and update to 4.4.2, without tripping knox

Flashing the same or newer stock rom does trip Knox.

[Q] De Le Vega CWM??

i have rooted my note 3 and no knox trip. I think that CWM is not included in the de le vega root package. If this is not the case how do i flash a ROM on my phone? And is this possible without tripping Knox?

De La Vega doesn't trip Knox. It gives you Root.
Flashing ANY recovery or other ROM will trip Root. So you can't if you want to keep you Knox at 0x0.
^ that.
Unfortunately, if you don't want to trip Knox, root is all you get. Check out Xposed framework for some more options in modding your stock rom, installing that and Wanam really go a long way towards customizing your phone. Just be VERY careful, and make sure you read everything, bootloops are a very real danger when screwing around with them, make sure you know how to push files via adb.

What he said. There's also a zip to disable all the Xpozed functions in case you bork your phone, but of course you need a custom recovery to flash the zip. That's why knowing adb and having it setup and working is important if you want to go that route.

[Q] kitkat update help

So. My phone decided to download the new kitkat update that I DID NOT want. Now I have to postpone the update every 24 hours. My questions are 1. Is there anyway to remove the file? (doubt it) 2. Will it update automatically after 24 hours? My phone is not rooted but would be willing to void Knox warranty to avoid this update. Could always drop the phone off of one of their towers I work on and make it unbootable.
Ahhhhhhh
Oh no! Now I'm being told I won't be able to postpone the update after a while!!!!! Someone please help I don't want this update!!!!

Since you have not updated yet, you can root without tripping Knox. Then once you are rooted, go through the existing 4.4.2 update thread and follow it. (post 873) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51254809&postcount=873
Later if you want, you can retain root and update to 4.4.

Excellent. Could you perhaps link a decent guide on how to perform this root?
I've searched around for a non Knox tripping guide and found a few, but suggestions would be appreciated.
This is the method I used. Very easy and have had no issues on both my phones that I did it on.

You can use Root de la Vega or Kingo Method to root without tripping Knox. Lots of threads on de la Vega here, use any one. Or its just easier to download kingo app from their website and follow instructions.

I'm still a little worried about Kingo .. or any autoroot that passes along IMEI to servers.
So I'd go with root de la vega.
please help.
Hello, I have a question. I'm still on jelly bean rooted, with stock rom and stock recovery. How is the best way to update to kit kat? I want to stay rooted with stock rom and recoveries. Also how do I flash the update with stock recovery?

Download the official kk version from sammobile.com and flash it using Odin. It will remove root, so you will have to root your phone again, which should be no big deal.

Root de vega vs. kingo?

Hi..sorry if this has been answered, but I don't see it on t-mobile.
I am planning to root my phone to run the regionlock (hopefully unlock sim). Getting confused with all the different methods available.
I don't want to trip Knox..was planning to use RDLV, but then read something about Kingo, but that wasn't listed as a method for rooting on the FAQ?
So what's the difference? Is one better than other? I also read that any installation of ROMs will trigger the knox? So if I rooted, how can I get to the newest firmware? Just unroot and update OTA?
If you are 4.3 you can root without tripping knox. I used RDLV I felt is was safer. XDA removed Kingo, it may not be safe. I know many have used it and are a big fan of Kingo. I did not like idea of some third party rooting my phone, they can do anything they choose to do. That is just my personal choice.
If you are 4.4.2 Kitkat, the rooting method available will trip Knox.
OTA, will not work automatically. You will need to use Odin. There are threads on how to all the above.
I am stock rooted 4.3, I have not jump on the Kitkat wagon yet. There are mixed reviews on moving to Kitkat.
Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks. if I stay rooted but want to move up to Kitkat but not use custom ROM, can I flash the offical firmware? And would that trigger KNOX? I read any flashing ROM will trigger it too? This is much more complicated...did this stuff a few years ago with HTC...now there's so much more stuff to consider

i think you can flash to 4.4.2 (KitKat) using odin mobile pro without triggering knox, at least that's what i've read on here that others have done successfully. if you want to upgrade you'll need to upgrade your bootloader too. keep in mind that once you do this, you can't revert or downgrade back to jellybean 4.3 or downgrade the bootloader (knox requires a signed bootloader to go with a signed official ROM, apparently).
personally if i were you i'd stay on jellybean 4.3 and use the root de la vega method. i'm a bit miffed mine came with 4.4.2 already on it.
i miss how easy it all was back on HTC too could root, flash recovery, ROM, kernel, and return to factory settings like new. *sigh*

Do you mean flashing 4.4.2 official rom which will become unroot again right? How about going to 4.4.2 and stay root with stock type ROM..not customized?

if you go the mobile odin pro route, it should root it again for you if it gets unrooted
you can get the steps on how to upgrade to 4.4.2 and keep root with knox 0x0 using mobile odin pro on this thread:

SM-T800 Rooted & Want to Update

I used the method from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/guide-how-to-root-tripping-knox-kitkat-t3129484 to root my SM-T800. So I'm on BOE3 right now with root. I want to update to BOJ1 and keep root.
When I do an update check, it tells me that I can't update because my device is modified. How do I get the update and keep root? Is there a guide that I have overlooked?
Thank you for the help.
I have noticed that the updater refuses to work not only when you have root, but sometimes even when you have TWRP installed without root. Anyways.. there are many options there, but I have no idea if they work without tripping knox bit (who cares about it anyways?).
The first thing you can try is to run the full unroot procedure from inside of supersu. This will remove root, and then you can try to install OTA update again. If that still doesn't work, you can backup your data, flash the KitKat ROM with odin, and then install OTA update. Or alternatively, just flash the latest Lollipop image (this will lose all your data and mods, and trip the knox).

Unless I'm misunderstanding, won't that make me lose root? I want to keep root.
All you need do is flash the firmware with FLASHFIRE. You will then keep root without tripping knox.
See the kingroot guide for more info.

Once you update to the latest ROM, then you can get root again, by flashing cf-autoroot or something else. (Again, this will set off the knox bit, but it's useless anyways)

OK. I just wasn't 100% sure that method would work for the newest update. Time to find where to download the latest firmware.
Alright, I flashed BOJ1 with Flashfire and I still have root. My bootloader says BOE3. Do I need to flash the BOJ1 bootloader? I believe the answer is yes, but just want to make sure.

If everything works then no, but may as well if you want the latest.

Note 3 Rooting

I have a Note 3 and im trying to figure out the process of rooting without tripping the Knox Counter. I rooted my Note 2, years ago and has been awhile. Also like to know is there a "triangle away" method to reset the counter.
Model: SM-900T
Android: 5.0
Baseband: N900TUVUFOL1
Kernel: 3.4.0-6005498
Knox: 2.3
Thanks in advance
As far as I know, there is no way to root without tripping Knox.
If the phone is not under warranty, tripping knox should not be an issue. I have tripped Knox on a few phones and have never had an issue.
I asked the same question a while back, and only just 2 days ago rooted my SM-N900T knox 0x0. Asked: Here.
To achieve root on the note 3 without tripping knox you must downgrade from the Lollipop firmware OB6, or FOL1 to NE6 using PC Odin.
Once downgraded to NE6 download and use TowelRoot. This will unlock root without tripping knox, NE6 was the last vulnerable firmware for towelroot on the t-mobile note 3.
Make sure you are flashing official t-mobile firmwares only for kitkat/lollipop when using PC odin.
Flashing any custom recovery, kernal, rom, bootloader, or no longer supported android version (4.3 jellybean) will trip knox.
You can use sammobile to get official firmwares, or if you're risky there are likely download mirrors scattered through the internet.
Once you're rooted on kitkat NE6, to get back to Lollipop and keep root you'll need Mobile Odin Pro to flash FOL1 with the latest Super SU Zip v2.46. (instructions first page of this thread: Here.)
Rooting seems to require some gonads and research first.
When using PC Odin I left options default (Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time).
When using Mobile Odin Pro (or maybe flashfire) make sure to uncheck EverRoot!
Flashfire is the newer free mobile odin pro I think. You might be able to use it in place of Mobile Odin Pro and instead of the supersu zip in addition to flashing FOL1 it comes with an option to inject SuperSU.
I recommend sticking with mobile odin pro for confirmed results. MOP does not support Lollipop.
Note that once you're rooted and upgrade to Lollipop your android system status will change from normal to custom. This prevents future OTA updates.
Root survives factory reset, but flashing official firmware with pc odin will make your phone genuine again as long as you didn't trip knox.
Downgrading to kitkat will very likely require a factory restore. Possibly also when upgrading back to Lollipop.
Note that the XPosed framework on lollipop and samsung touchwiz stock roms does not seem supported.
It seems some people have flashed a Deodexed rom and unofficial xposed to have it working. I made a single attempt and was unable to have it working.
I assume you could stay on kitkat and manage to get xposed working easy.
If you decide to use xposed, do not try to flash the framework without mobile odin pro, or flashfire.
Using a custom recovery, or flashing anything custom with PC Odin will trip knox.
Look over the information around to get a comfortable understanding and good luck!
Proceed only with the understanding that you could always on accident trip knox, or brick your phone.
I believe there is no known way to reset knox flag to 0 on the SM-N900T.
For future readers using a newer firmware than FOL1 it may no longer be possible to pc odin downgrade to kitkat without tripping knox.
So there is no way of downgrading without tripping knox
You can downgrade to kitkat NE6 using PC odin from t-mobile lollipop firmware OB6/OL1. (OL1 being the latest lollipop firmware, OB6 a version older). Once on kitkat NE6 firmware u can use towelroot to gain root and you will not trip knox. Unless you manage to check an option somewhere during this process that would cause you to trip knox. .
As stated, I achieved downgrading/rooting without tripping knox just a couple days ago from the current latest t-mobile galaxy note 3 (SM-N900T) firmware FOL1.
I then upgraded back from KitKat NE6 to Lollipop FOL1 using mobile odin pro.
You can probably downgrade to any 4.4 kitkat firmware, NOT 4.3 jellybean, just fine without tripping knox if you have a kitkat, or lollipop firmware up to FOL1.
I'll try it later, I also want to know if custom roms are possible
From what I've read you can install a custom rom as long as it has a stock kernel, otherwise you trip knox. You would need to flash with flashfire, or mobile odin pro though...
I've only used the stock firmware on my note 3 so don't completely know about using a custom rom.
I don't think a custom ROM can be flash via Odin. A custom ROM requires a custom recovery and a custom recovery will trip Knox on a stock KK or LP AFAIK.
Ohh ok. This is all sorta new to me as well. I had just assumed mobile odin pro could because FlashFire is its "successor".
