i have rooted my note 3 and no knox trip. I think that CWM is not included in the de le vega root package. If this is not the case how do i flash a ROM on my phone? And is this possible without tripping Knox?

De La Vega doesn't trip Knox. It gives you Root.
Flashing ANY recovery or other ROM will trip Root. So you can't if you want to keep you Knox at 0x0.
^ that.
Unfortunately, if you don't want to trip Knox, root is all you get. Check out Xposed framework for some more options in modding your stock rom, installing that and Wanam really go a long way towards customizing your phone. Just be VERY careful, and make sure you read everything, bootloops are a very real danger when screwing around with them, make sure you know how to push files via adb.

What he said. There's also a zip to disable all the Xpozed functions in case you bork your phone, but of course you need a custom recovery to flash the zip. That's why knowing adb and having it setup and working is important if you want to go that route.

So. My phone decided to download the new kitkat update that I DID NOT want. Now I have to postpone the update every 24 hours. My questions are 1. Is there anyway to remove the file? (doubt it) 2. Will it update automatically after 24 hours? My phone is not rooted but would be willing to void Knox warranty to avoid this update. Could always drop the phone off of one of their towers I work on and make it unbootable.
Ahhhhhhh
Oh no! Now I'm being told I won't be able to postpone the update after a while!!!!! Someone please help I don't want this update!!!!

Since you have not updated yet, you can root without tripping Knox. Then once you are rooted, go through the existing 4.4.2 update thread and follow it. (post 873) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51254809&postcount=873
Later if you want, you can retain root and update to 4.4.

Excellent. Could you perhaps link a decent guide on how to perform this root?
I've searched around for a non Knox tripping guide and found a few, but suggestions would be appreciated.
This is the method I used. Very easy and have had no issues on both my phones that I did it on.

You can use Root de la Vega or Kingo Method to root without tripping Knox. Lots of threads on de la Vega here, use any one. Or its just easier to download kingo app from their website and follow instructions.

I'm still a little worried about Kingo .. or any autoroot that passes along IMEI to servers.
So I'd go with root de la vega.
please help.
Hello, I have a question. I'm still on jelly bean rooted, with stock rom and stock recovery. How is the best way to update to kit kat? I want to stay rooted with stock rom and recoveries. Also how do I flash the update with stock recovery?

Download the official kk version from sammobile.com and flash it using Odin. It will remove root, so you will have to root your phone again, which should be no big deal.

Hi guys, I just got a galaxy s4 for t mobile and it came with 4.2.2 version of android. I'm scared to brick the phone but I really want to root it. Can someone point me to the right direction? Been reading some tutorials but they are for different versions of android. How do I root my phone without bricking it or tripping Knox?

4.2.2 doesnt have Knox. Use CF-Auto Root by Chainfire to root.

Thanks! Now it seems that cf auto root comes with a stock kernel and recovery. Is this changeable? Can I install a custom recovery and kernel after using cf auto root? Or should I find a different method of rooting for this? Are there any safe ones out there. It seems that a lot is outdated and I'm afraid of installing the wrong thing.

I don't know if towelroot will root 4.2.2, but it doesn't install a recovery.

You're calling a rooting method outdated while using the exact "outdated" software it was meant to root in the first place. CF-autoroot is as safe as safe can be. In fact, I know it still works for 4.3 and I THINK 4.4.2; it just trips the KNOX counter on them... still gets the job done though.
As far as your concern of installing the recovery; it first flashes its own recovery so it can use an exploit, then reverts it back to stock. I believe the kernel is untouched.
If your end goal is to move on to custom recoveries and custom ROMs you can bypass the rooting process altogether and go straight for the recovery/ROM.

This.
You really don't need CF Auto Root at all until all you want to do is root the stock rom.
If you want to install a customer rom, use Odin to install a custom recovery and flash whatever you want from there.

That's precisely my end goal. And I guess my question is how to do this safely with the Android version I have.
I didn't mean the root method was outdated; I was talking about some of the information that's on the general forum regarding root. There is even a post on one of the stickies asking for updated info in May. This scares me because for all I know I can follow one of these methods to root or install a custom recovery/rom and end up with a brick because something is no longer compatible.
I guess my question is: what is the best (updated) method of installing a custom rom/recovery for my tmobile s4 with android 4.2.2?
Use cf autoroot and flash clockworkmod through Odin. Download rommanager. Download a rom. Hit install rom from SD card. Pick your ROM from downloads.

I understand your apprehension, i really do. What I've said to do has worked for me when i got the phone over a year ago, and has worked here recently when i did it again. I'm trying to tell you there is no need for an updated way of doing what you want. If you want root, use CFauto root. Like i said, that method was done specifically for MDB and MDL firmwares, there is no better choice. Newer yeah, but better? Not a chance. Your firmware is equally outdated and it's worked for millions of users without fail.
As far as a custom ROM goes, find one you want to use, put it on your SD card, pick a recovery (CWM, Philz, or TWRP), flash that in Odin, boot to recovery (power+volume up) , do a full wipe (system, data, and cache) select the ROM, and flash. No need to root at all if you want to go straight to a custom ROM.
EDIT: Obviously, you might want to perform a nandroid backup once you flash your recovery... but that's really optional as long as you have the stock Odin-flashable firmware. Totally up to you.

SM-T705, CF-Autoroot already. I was asked the above question. As I have rooted already I cant tell.
1 So if one installs TWRP recovery with Odin (not TWRP Manager apk) and just wants to backup his Tab, I would say there is no root necessary for doing this.
2 Will the Installation of TWRP with Odin trip Knox already ?
3 What is necessary for TWRP restore ... I guess root...
yes it will trip knox, anything custom other than an added binary (su.bin) will trip knox. Root isn't needed to backup/restore a ROM outside of Android, just a custom recovery.
If you have rooted with CF-Autoroot you tripped Knox already.

you con downgrade an older stock kernel w/out tripping knox ... but that's about all you can do. That said, I'd love to know if anyone has tried king, or towelroot. I'm too chicken. But towelroot DID work on our 8.4 tab pro (w/out tripping knox).

The thing is, is the tab pro exynos? I dont think towelroot works on exynos or some exynos devices
can't recall - but I thought it was the other way around - that towelroot (& kingo) won't work on snapdragon 's. I'll have to check to see what we got.

Hi i have rooted my SM-T705 without tripping Knox using KINGOROOT but i have run into a issue i need supersu and it keeps failing to install if i TWRP Manager via apk will that trip Knox ? Sorry for the newbie question i haven't been keeping up with the root scene for some years now ?? Thanks
Is there a way to get root on this device without tripping the Knox counter? Don't want a full custom ROM. Just simple root to be able to run some other software.
Thanks!

to run "other software" i think you mean to flash other roms. From my understanding, rooting your tablet wont trip the Knox, but flashing a custom recovery like TWRP will trip knox. You MUST flash a custom recovery to flash a custom Rom.

I *may* fully flash the tablet someday (which I'm fairly positive trips Knox regardless) if a Lollipop ROM comes along that looks interesting. However, for now all I am wanting to do is use Titanium Backup to remove some of the bloat that the factory OS won't allow me to delete or freeze. I've used CF-AutoRoot in the past. Is that still the easiest / recommended method on this particular tablet?

Yep.
I know there are posts about going from 4.3 to 5.0, but I have Root de la Vega installed and I've read a lot of warnings about that method of rooting. I currently have xposed running for apps like adaway. I would like to know if it's safe to use ODIN to just update to 5.0. Or do I need to undo ROOT de la Vega first?(if so, how?) ideally I would want to go to the latest stock firmware with root access and also the ability to change firmware if I want a custom one. (i'm not sure if stock firmware has issues with switching to custom)
My other questions are: does it matter if i flip the KNOX bit anymore since my warranty expired? Does anyone even care If I plan on reselling my phone? Does the KNOX bit stops you from doing anything anymore?
Thanks
Just flash to the latest rom via Odin. You may have to perform a factory reset before the stock rom will boot.

Yes, root will be removed.
found a solution. i just follow this guide and update to 4.4.2, without tripping knox

Flashing the same or newer stock rom does trip Knox.
