Unable to enter Download Mode - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick back Story---
Just bought Phone
Rooted using Kingo Root
unable to get Phone to read my metroPCS simcard
Unable to enter download mode to install TWRP
Rear camera displays all black (if software does not fix its only a $5 part, so no biggy
IMEI Clean
So I've tried using RomToolBox, to boot into Bootloader, and it just reboots the phone (obviously I do not have TWRP on there, and idk if Odin counts)
I am pressing Volume Down + Home + Power
Back Lights turn on ...(Important no warning message)
Then I get an android on its back with its lid open
I press home key again and it opens the "Android Recovery Utility A3"
I have tried pressing the Volume up key directly after the Back lights turn on, and same thing... Also tried removing battery for 1+ minutes, no go.
Heres my about phone info, the build seems off, I think the previous owner may have install a custom Rom on there but no idea...
Model: GT-N7100
Android version: 4.1.1
Build Number: ALPS.ICS2.MP.V1.3
Custom Build Number: 1359719440
Edit: Thought I would Add, The phone is unable to connect to a mobile network. When I put my sim in, I can see my phone number, but it thinks im on Tmobile, and not Metro PCS. Soo, I figure my first order of buisness is to Root, Install TWRP, then Install a CM 13. Rom. I am able to connect to my wifi, and Im assuming that the actual sim reader is working since it is reading my phone number off of the sim card. But I figure if worse case scenario I can replace that sim reader. I am pretty confident that the previous owner ran into the bug when updating it fails to reconect to the network and gets glitched out, sold it to a local bodega, and Im lucky.

Added a Video of the issue im having full boot, including my root access, about phone, and the Lack of Samsung logo, and how Vol Down Home and power bring me to Recovery mode.

Please close this thread, I just realized I got conned. This phone is a Fake Note 2. 2 gigs internal space etc... fml.

[Q] Mobile ID problem [sPIN]

Hello,
I have special SIM card issued by my operator which enables mobile ID use (with sPIN authentication) for connecting to bank or e-government. Works like this:
1. The user clicks the "Log in with mobile ID" option on a supported website
2. The phone displays a screen indicating that a connection is being made
3. The user is prompted to enter a mobile ID sPIN code into the phone
4. The screen on the phone disappears and the website is automatically reloaded with a logged in screen
It worked fine with stock firmware, but after I've rooted my HOX I'm not getting sPIN request screen anymore (step 3).
Have tried several custom AOSP or AOKP ROMs without luck, but found some of them partly working.
One I'm using right now is [ROM][4.2.2] Slim Bean - Endeavoru [STABLE][Build 7]. Mobile ID worked for first days after flashing it but later I was only able to use it for a few random times (after restarts). Then it works till next restart...
I was first thinking its an issue of incompatible apps I've installed or system settings I've mixed up, but somehow it works sometimes after restart (with very low success rate though). Also tried to restart into safe mode - it worked for the first time, but no luck for the next ~20 safe mode restarts after that.
I've also found hints it could be stk (SIM Application Toolkit) related problem. I can see SIM toolkit in my app list, though it doesnt' show up on running processes on developer tools.
If you're still reading this and have any ideas, please make some comments, maybe it would help me to get back on the right track, thanks!

[Q] Problem with Galaxy Tab 7'' update

Hello.
I recently got myself a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7in and everything seemed to be working just fine until the system eventually prompted me to update the Samsung software. I followed the steps, the tablet downloaded the update files itself and rebooted in order to install the updates. Problem is, during the reboot/installation process the screen remained black with just 2 lines of pixels on across the screen, I though this was part of the booting process but it just stood there for more than 10 minutes so I decided to turn it back on. Everything seemed to be fine, but then an error message came up saying there could be problems with the software (i didn't pay too much attention), but after this it won't let me install any apps. After an app is done downloading a message pops up saying "unknown error code during application install -110", plus my computer (or any other computer) doesn't detect when it's plugged in via USB cable. I've tried doing several factory resets and wipes and still have the same issues. Tried installing Kies but it won't detect it either.
How can I repair the firmware without having to connect the tablet to my computer? Is there anything I can download directly to it or transfer via Bluetooth to re-install the software?
Any help will be very much appreciated
Try resetting it back to factory defaults. You can google it easily.

my friend has the same problem. did you fix the issue? if so how?
I am using the Apex Launcher but I think this is possible with stock launcher as well hopefully it helps someone. This is one way to do a factory reset is:
You will need your MSL TO DO THIS. If you don't know it put the "Factory Mode" shortcut on your home screen then skip down to the 2nd part of this post & install the msl app.
FACTORY RESET:
1) long click on the home screen
2) click on shortcut
3) select Activities
4)Scroll down to "Factory Mode" tap it then select the dropled down one. This will put a Shortcut on the Home Screen.
5) Find the Factory Mode shortcut you just made & tap it to open it.
6) Dial ##786# then on the screen that pops up
7) select "RESET"
8)enter your msl in the box that popped up then select ok then the device will reboot & when it powers backup it will be like it was from the factory & if you don't know your MSL follow the instructions below.
TO GET MSL:
1) In a browser type bit.ly/mslutility - can sideload if needed
2)install app
3) Open app & click get MSL it will most likely fail this is fine.
4) click on the factory mode shortcut you made to open it
5) dial ##3282# & put in 6 zeros-it will tell you that it's incorrect this is fine. Go back to home screen
6) Open the MSL App & click on Get MSL-this time it should give you your devices 6 digit MSL Code. Write it down. Then do step # 6 above to reset your Device.
This shortcut will allow you to put the Sprint SGT3 into DIAG MODE(##3424#) , get into the ##data#(##3282#) menu, do the factory reset ##RTN# (##786#) & most likely any other Dialer/hidden menu's for this device.
Thanks to the MSL App builder(not sure who it is so let me know please)

Screenlock invisible after upgrading to lollipop

Hello
I tried updating using Sony PC Companion application after it had finished, i turned it on and waited for the upgrading processes it took a long time and my phone's back became hot *really hot* then after it had finished upgrading it stuck with a blank screen and didn't take me to the home screen i can go to the camera if i pressed the capturing button , i can turn it off/restart it take screenshots or record the screen but i cannot go to the home screen and access other applications i can't even go to settings or notifications all i can see is the notifications and the back button i can't click at notifications and i cannot enter a pattern/password this so hopeless
sometimes it shows me the message * InitialBootSetup isn't responding * but even though nothing changes it stays at the same way
infos you might need
My phone is not rooted , it doesn't have a sim card/sd card, usb debugging is disabled and it was locked with pattern lock before upgrading
i tried using android device manager changed the password but still no big changes just got the ability to access emergency calls
the worse thing is that i didn't back it up before upgrading :crying:
Hello?
I thought I was alone.
This happened to me when I upgraded my Z1C to Lollipop too. All I did was:
1 Turn the phone off.
2 Connect it to the computer.
3 Open Sony PC Companion
4 Go to Support Zone (That's the first tiled option in PC companion).
5 Select Phone/Tablet Software Update.
It will go through the same process it went through at the initial stages of the update process. When it asks you to unplug the phone, go right ahead and you're good from there.
May flashing System (Lollipop) again will fix that!?
I wasn't able to re-update it because it requires me to unlock the phone
and i couldn't do so because i wasn't able to see the pattern lock to unlock it
sadly i had to repair my phone through the repair option in Sony PC Companion app
this resulted in overwriting everything and losing my data ..
I'm having the same problem (new, un-rooted phone) but any time I try to repair my phone using PC Companion I get an error message about a failure in sony update engine (error number 302). tried 3 different computers and running as an administrator with w7 or xp compatibility mode but i got the same error every time.
what can I do?
EDIT:
flashing a new firmware using flashtool solved the problem.

ATT Note 5 Native Tether/hotspot (NO Root) 6.0.1 MM

I am using an at&t note 5 (sm-920A) i downgraded from Nougat EQC6, 7.0.1 to 6.0.1. MM CPK1 with Binary 4 bootloader. This phone has never been rooted.
I now have access to hotspot in my notifications drop down menu, and USB tethering along with Bluetooth tethering work by just going to the option and switching them on.
My Goal was initially to downgrade to 5.1.1 to get root so i could make use of the Native Tether/Hotspot and other root apps on my ATT Note 5.
I am using this phone on the Straight Talk network.
This is my first how-to and first post. I apologize if i post in the wrong section or am unable to give more help to those in need.
I've searched/googled and although i have found workarounds i have not found any how-to's to get to this end result.
Ive been using my note 5 this way for a few days now with no problems. disabled att bloatware, knox, and system updates with package disabler pro.
With not having any issues, I flashed back to the 6.01 firmware to check my steps and write this how-to. Will update if anything changes.
WARNING!!
Some things i did may be unnessary but were in my process at the time of writing/doing this so are included
I haven't tested everything on this phone.
I don't know if there are any bugs.
I don't know what will happen when updated.
I do not garuntee this will work for you.
I take NO responsibility if your decision to try/do this fails.
The Search button and google were my biggest helpers.
Here is my process as laid out and straight forward as i could think to write it.

Big Thank you to these guys for posting this stuff, and everything else they post.
I am assuming you know how to put your phone into download mode and use odin in the following instructions. I left my phone connected to my pc with sim card in the entire process.
1. Unzip N920AUCS4CPK1, then Flash using odin. Use all 4 files in their respected spots. nothing else has to be changed hit start.
After reboot I setup up the phone enough to get to settings and enable developer options. making sure to turn on adb debugging and oem unlock. then rebooted to download mode
2. In Odin, Flash N920AUCE2APB2.tar in the BL slot and COMBINATION_FA51_N920AUCU4APL1_CL6053901_QB11816686_REV00_user_mid_noship.tar in the AP slot. (I flashed these two at the same time)
Phone will reboot to binary splash screen then start regularly. For me the phone Played boot music and (vibrated then vibrate twice) repeatedly. Bootloop
If this happens to you as well,
2a. Shut phone off by holding volume down key and power button.
(If you are brought to a screen that says power key long press in yellow with other information below[well call this the info screen, not sure on its proper name],
then power off by holding volume down key and power key again, releasing both when screen goes blank.
2b. When the phone is completly off reboot to recovery by holding volume up key and power key.
Do a factory reset and wipe cache. Then reboot. (If it freezes at cache complete, power off with volume down key and power key).
Holding power button for 10 seconds or more will boot you to info screen again.
3. Your phone should load to a home screen with what looks like a debugging menu as the background.
4. Turn phone off and boot to download mode.
5. In Odin, load BL, AP, and CP from N920AUCS4CPK1. Leave CSC blank. No other options should be changed in Odin.
6. You will reboot to recovery. Use reboot option. dm verity check will start then phone should reboot to normal setup initialization.
7. If for some reason your phone shows the wrong storage size, go to back-up and resert in settings and o a factory data reset mine was showing up as 16gb where as it is 64gb
That was everything i did.
If with straight talk send a text to 611611 with the mesage being apn.
afrter a few minutes they will send a configuration message for browser and mms.
Install both. They should say installed when complete.
For others you will have to input your apn settings manually.
My phone showed H+ for the first few minutes, has been showing 4g ever since.
Just a few thoughts before i post, but are in no way tested or confirmed...
I'm thinking coming from cpk1 full firmware you could just flash the combination file in the AP slot.
Then after reboot to Download mode flash the cpk1 firmware without the CSC file and hve the same result,
but I havnt had a chance to test that yet as i need my phone running, and will soon have to go to work.
The main reason the N920AUCE2APB2.tar file was used was because i was playing around flashing different files it may or may not be needed. further testing is needed. but it was there during this process so i included it. Again I apologize if this could be simplified or if i left anything out. any comments are appreciated positive or negative. Thanks
So i did a little testing. Flash cpk1 all files. Then flash the custom binary and rebooting to download mode. Then flash the cpk1 files again minus the csc file. Leave that slot(csc) empty in odin and it will give you native hotspot and tethering. You get hotspot from notification drop down menu and No more contact att. It will take away the calls over wifi option though.
I will edit this walkthrough (if you canveven call it that) soon to reflect the changes. Thank you for reading.

I am now on 7.0 with native hotspot and mobile hotspot icon in the notification drop down menu working . i can upload pictures but atm im not familiar with the best free file hosting sites so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i will keep trying different firmwares and update with results.

Hello Badbrane, I followed your instructions and I succeeded
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: After some testing I found out a bluetooth issue.
The first time I turn the device on, the bluetooth works fine. Then, after a reboot, I can't turn bluetooth on any more.
If I go through a Factory reset I will get the bluetooth working again, till next reboot
I need some help. I'm stuck in 2b (yellow information screen). when i hold [volume down] + [power button] it restarts instead of turning off. What should I do?
The combination file is no longer on Android file host. Any chance you have another link?

I havnt really messed with the bluetooth much on my note 5 since i did this process. there are definetly a few bugs but my only concern was being able to use hotspot and tether. found out later that the system will try to auto update but it crashes every time so i no worring about hitting binary 5, as far as i know that is

Locked bootloader, encrypted, Restarts,No recovery,HELP

I have Realme 3(android10 OS/MediaTek Helio P70/brought it in May 2019)(encrypted)
phone started creating problem fore from 7/7/2020,when realme 3 phone is switched on it Starts on screen after entering password it comes phone storage need to be cleanup and I can operate it for few Seconds (but can't uninstall apps, delete videos files) and then it restart again and keeps on doing,it starts then can use phone for few seconds (can't make any changes in device)And restart again in few seconds and this process keeps continuing then I make it power off even in power off sometime it get switched on without switching it on.
I tried pressing phone(Realme 3)volume down and Power button, it show recovery mode on left side but then phone switch off and restarts again.
i am fearing most important data loss(unbackup)
Local technicians and service centre saying data can't be recovered and need to do flashing using SP flash tool
