phone activating in my pocket - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

My phone always keeps activating in my pocket even after turning off all gestures. I think it's the fingerprint sensor. My phone always gets hot because of it. What should I do or is there a way to deal with it. I do not want to disable fingerprint though.

do you have your phone screen in or ou. I always have mine in to prevent me from leaning on something thatll crack screen or something.
anyways you could try turning the phone the other way around and see if that helps.
do you use a case or is your phone "naked"? if your not using a case maybe thatll help by adding that extra "lip" so that the fingerprint scanner is not touching the pocket insides or what ever is activating it.
I personally don't have this problem, really don't see how its happening to you, just throwing out ideas.

Waiting for my ice view case now, so it's "naked" but I'll try flipping it the other way.

Touch screen has stopped!!!! Help!!!

My phone has been going great and giving no issues. Byt the other evening suddenly the toicuh screen stopped being responsive!!! Totally randomly. No drop or spil or anythign like that, no new software or roms recently.
When you open it the keyboard still lights up, and after a hard reset, you can navigate a bit using the keys. But ZERO response from the screen!!!
As i say, this is even with a hard reset!!! I also tried using masking tip to pressure the screen in case somethign was stuck.
Ok it mighty be the digitiser, or a loose connection. Im hoping not.
Has anyone experienced this or similar and is tehre anythign else i can try before i take the plunge and get someone to look at it??? (its out of warranty unfort)
Ouch
Sorry to hear. It happened to me months back. It started with very uncalibrated clicks... making corner clicking impossible to compensate for.
I've recompensated, but that didn't last long - and it eventually degraded to no touch screen. With insurance, I did get a refurbish for my woes.
I flashed Stock ROM and relocked. No luck.
I'd still back up everything.
Reformat SD card.
Reflash stock ROM
Relock the device - all to see if it helps.
I did have a similar recent problem - but in this case it's because I was using a clip on hard case front that must've been putting pressure on the touch screen.
Hopefully one of these helps you out. Good luck
When my screen stopped responding it was due to a more physical thing.
I read this somewhere and tried it, worked instantly!
You have to get your finger nail under the screen (try pushing your nail into the edge of the screen from the side) and lift the screen up a bit.
This worked for me. If you think its a physical and not software issue give it a shot.
I have had the same problem.
I bought new touch screen on ebay (about $15) and after replacement the device works well.
stop everything !!!!!
if you have Google G Mail set up on your phone remove it and it will fix it's self
somthing google / G mail is doing the tilt 2 doesn't like
causing the "Sleep Of Death"
Hi guys
I have tried all the above
Last resort is i got sprite backyup to work
BUT HOW THE HELL DO YOU HIT "NEXT" OR "OK" FROM THE KEYBOARD AS SCREEN DOESNT WORK????

Woohoo! It worked for me too!

It's actually very simple to fix - slide a finger nail under the plastic by the speaker and gently pry the digitizer up. Then, put it back. You dont need to remove it totally from the phone. It will flex back to its flat shape as soon as the glue releases. As soon as you stick it back down, the touch screen will work again.

[Q] Need a little re-assembly help please

Okay, my Play digitizer screen became shattered due to a little accident last week.
I bought a replacement online and put it back together again with the aid of a video I found on here.
Everything seems fine apart from one thing, every now and then the screen moves by itself and has a mind of its own as if it's being touched, sliding through screens and selecting items etc.
Anyone else had this happen after replacing parts?
I know it's a long shot, but I plan to open it again to try and fix it, but to be honest I have no idea what to look for and any hints would help
if it works and going on the fritz by itself it means you didnt attach the cable right same thing happen to me on a few phones make sure u shove it all the way in lol
I really need to figure out how to stop dust getting behind the screen while changing it, every time I clean it there seems to be more

Damn pocket issue !!!

I've seen plenty of people comment about how when a text message is received in your pocket, the screen never goes back to sleep. The reason for this thread is to discuss the reasoning for it. I have heard plenty of people saying to just disable the 'screen on' feature but that is no solution to me. It's a bandaid.
Personally I find the screen on feature to be very useful. I can have the phone sitting on my desk and when an sms comes through, I can glance down and get a preview of the message before it locks back up. That way I can see if it's worth addressing at the moment or not. I came from the skyrocket which also had the feature, but without the pocket bug. Half the time I receive a message in my pocket, the screen never locks back up and it sounds like a damn rainstorm in my pocket.
I was under the impression that the screen only registered a 'touch' when something conductive touched it. My pants pocket isn't made from special conductive fabric. Now the only thing I can think of is that because the glass is facing inwards, my leg is causing the problem THROUGH my pocket. It acts like it is too sensitive.
Thoughts?

Um... Face the phone screen outwards?? or use a belt holster (vertical or horizontal)???
lol
I had some issues when I get my phone... I cannot seem to fit this massive phone in my jean pocket, so I used the belt holster I had for my S2 Skyrocket, and no issues so far...
Just drop the stock messaging and move to Handcent. I have it set to where the text message will not turn on the screen, just vibrate and sound.
as I had mentioned in the OP, i found value in the 'screen on' feature and didn't wish to put a bandaid on it (face outwards, holster, handcent etc...) I know i can turn the feature off with a third party app. in fact i used go sms which has the ability to disable that feature, but i USE that feature and i don't want to sacrifice it. why did the skyrocket, and other phones work just fine?
Never had this issue. I also never used the stock messaging app on the stock rom as I flashed custom within an hour of owning the phone. Maybe try a different messaging app?
it happens with both the stock messaging app as well as any third party app. essentially any app at all that wakes the screen up. being that you've never had this problem with a custom rom, it could be software related with the stock rom.
Possibly. Don't know if you're rooted or not but may want to try one of the roms that are stock like if you like the stock rom the phone came with.

This fix is actually really easy, stop wearing skinny jeans.
On a serious note, I haven't had this issue yet but it is annoying when plugging in or unplugging that the screen seems to stay on until you hit the power button again.

i am on the stock rom and have never had that issue, and i receive many messages per day. i was using the stock kernel for a few weeks and for the last week or two i have been using a custom kernel, but neither one ever had that issue. my screen does light up when i receive a sms message but it always turns back off quickly. i would guess maybe there is an app on your phone causing an issue?

... more sensitive screen? Different pants? i don't know. What i do know, though, is that the mms6 was not trying to be a smarta** with his comment. If the pants/shorts/etc... that you're wearing have thin material making up the pockets, and your phone is facing your thigh... do you really think there's no chance of the capacitive screen picking up the touch from your thigh? Hell, one pair of shorts that i have were quite interesting. With my Motorola Atrix 4G, even with the screen facing away from me, i was able to vaguely make out what was on the screen, and was able to unlock the phone THROUGH both the pocket material as well as the material the shorts were made out of.
So uuh... yea... i really don't see how having the screen facing outwards is a "band-aid"... unless you think that we shouldn't use screen gestures to unlock our phones...

Does your screen sometimes do this?

Does your screen sometimes when you swipe down it goes the opposite way? Sometimes when I swipe down on the screen, it goes up instead of going down.
Inverse swiping.
Bump, anyone?
Never gotten this. Spilled anything on your screen? Gotten it wet? If not might just be a faulty screen, or maybe your fingers are to oily
I have never done anything to the screen. It's been in a case since I got it and I have kept it away from things that could possibly destroy it. I think it does this only on cm10 and not stock jb.

Could be a Cm10 issue? Idk I've never had it before...
sometimes I get that when the screen is dirty with fingerprints, oil, airbubbles in the screen protector, or a water bead on the screen
Yes I've had this happen. Actually very often. Haven't given the screen a good cleaning in a while maybe that will help.
It could be the oleophobic coating or w/e wearing off. I wish there was a way to reapply.

In call screen keeps coming on?

Hey guys. My brother just got this phone and is having some issues. .. He's coming from Lumia 922.. So it shouldn't be too hard to impress him .. right? Well so far he has gone into airplane mode every call he's taken because the screen won't sleep and his cheek toggles to airplane mode. Is there any setting to help this? I want to give him a chance to like this phone, but if you can't even comfortably make a call without worrying about accidentally bumping the button maybe he needs to trade it ...
Any advice would be appreciated.
Does he have a screen protector on it? Sometimes those mess with the proximity sensor and makes the screen stay on.

I have a somewhat similar issue. I returned my first phone because I thought the proximity sensor wasn't working. I would be speaking on the phone, press my face to the screen and then would hear an ear shattering beep and then then phone would switch to speaker phone. This happened several times. I did have a screen protector on the phone but removed it. It continued even after I removed the protector.
I swapped the phone for a new one and all was fine for the first several days. Yesterday the problem started again. And, no, no screen protector this time.
I've noticed this with this phone, as well. I have a screen protector, but it doesn't cover the proximity sensor. That's in the metal above the screen, I doubt anyone's screen protector would affect it.
Sometimes when my face is literally pressed against the phone, and by proxy the proximity sensor, the screen still comes on and I can see it out of the corner of my eye. While it happened occasionally with my other phones, this has happened more in the week and a half I've had this phone than a couple months with the others. I think it might be a defect in the model if others are having this issue.
I've also had it turn on the speakerphone for no reason even when it's pressed against my face. Don't know if that's part of the issue or not.

Well it's nice to hear that I am not the only one having this issue, but frustrating that I am too. . If anyone finds settings or a solution let me know. . It's definitely annoying.
Must be a limited issue. Haven't heard of this from anyone I know and I have yet to have the issue.
I think I may have figured out my problem. I had an "el cheapo" TPU case (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transparent...r-for-HTC-One-2013-M7-Accessory-/330949139388) on the phone. Today I put 3 different callers on speakerphone & mute simultaneously. Took the case off and haven't had a problem since.
