Volume button? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Anyone has a little play in their volume button, like almost feels a little loose. Just wondering if thats normal?

I've been wondering about this all day today, too. I have the same issue. Is just slightly wobbly, and every now and then when I put it down on the table it makes a very brief and slight rattle noise. Although I've read elsewhere this could be the camera autofocus system.
Otherwise, the button feels pretty good when pressed - gives a nice solid click. I wouldn't have noticed, to be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that I kept thinking the screen protector was peeling off whenever my finger brushed the button and I felt the small amount of movement the button gives.
Having checked a few of the other phones I have around the house (Galaxy S4, S4 Mini, Nexus 4, iPhone 4 - all the fours!), they all appear to have a bit of give in their volume rockers/buttons, except the Nexus 4.
My girlfriend also has a OnePlus 3 - will check hers when she gets home.

I have it too. I can move the complete button up and down just a little.

I just checked my girlfriend's OP3 and it has an identical amount of movement in it. Seems to be by design.

I have very little play vertically, like 1 mm. It's not really noticeable in day to day use.
My issue with the volume buttons is, volume down feels "clickier" than volume up. Volume up needs little more pressure to press compared to volume down and power button. The button also seems to go deeper when pressed, compared to the other two buttons. I was wondering if that's normal. I love everything about the phone, but that button kinda worries me.

Mine doesn't seem to have any movement except vertical movement of a minimal amount

my volume keys move slightly to the right and left, is this normal?
sorry for my english

Viewing angle discovery

Today I was watching a movie and discovered if holding the tablet in landscape wiih the home button on the left side, viewing angle was drastically improved. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Well...it was a knowed "feature"
But it is nice to see that i'm not the only one that find it a good escamoutage
It's funny, that exact "feature" is also present on my cheaper "ainol basic tab"... I wonder if the manufacturers put the devices together like this for a reason, or is it just a mistake? I got used to it, and always hold it in a certain angle (with the power button to the right, the normal way) with no problem.
Yea I noticed one side of the screen had a really crappy viewing angle. Its the portrait left side and I have also have been trying to avoid the bad side when viewing netflix
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Yea The viewing angle is very good on the A100. The only issue is they put the logo and default orientation backwards IMO.. LOL
Example:
Right side up for a right handed person holding the device with left hand.
-The screen looks MUCH BETTER at angles
-The left hand tends to cover up the front camera, also its much easier to use the volume key with the right hand when it's in the bottom right(upside down).
-The power key is accessible with right hand when upside down.
Cons- Hand now covers up the crappy little speakers, Thumb part of palm can now activate home if you hold it wrong. This is all very easily avoided with a headset and just not squeezing with your thumb's palm.
I just couldn't get used to the viewing angles. You had to tip it to the left to get the best viewing angle. Took it back.

My 24hr hardware impressions of the GSM vs CDMA GNex

Comparing my brother's gsm with my cdma galaxy nexus, I've noticed a few things.
I feel like the gsm model has a slight bit higher tolerances in fit and finish. the volume button is the same as the power button snug, doesn't wiggle and firm to the touch.
The cdma one has slightly larger cutouts of the volume button so there's some play and wiggle room. This bugs me slightly as it rattles a bit when the phone vibrates.
Another thing I noticed is the touch vibrate on the on screen keyboard or even the on screen home/back/task buttons aren't as strong as the vibrate motor on the gsm. feels dampened and not as crisp. If i had to guess, feels like 50% of the amount of feel in the gsm.
Other than that. besides the slightly thicker phone .5mm ish it feels about the same in the pocket and weight. only if you hold both side by side will you notice the slightly thicker back of the cdma
anyone else have similar comments to add or share?
does your CDMA volume keys rattle? or wiggle? does your vibrate feel almost unnoticeable when you type or unlock?
thanks!
my cdma volume rocker does move but I do not notice a rattle when vibrate is active.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
My phone is on vibrate 24/7. Never hear a rattle. Shouldn't assume anomalies within the manufacturing process are consistent with every device. If it bugs you that much, maybe you could exchange. Although I'm not sure they will accept "wiggly volume rocker" as a defect
Edit: in response to above, mine doesn't even move.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I'm on my second cdma galaxy nexus. The first one I exchanged due to the bad signal issue, which wasn't really the case as we now all know due to these phones showing bars based on data and not 1x. Anyway, my first nexus had a loose volume rocker and had really obvious verticle banding at lower brightness levels. The replacement one I got has a solid volume rocker with no movement, and I've noticed that the screen has little to no verticle banding on low brightness levels. I'm guessing the first batch of cdma nexus phones had some fitting issues.
Beamed from my SCH-i515
I guess there are manufacturing tolerances in batches. grr
its not a big bother if it just wiggled. even the iphone 4s volume wiggled alittle. the annoying part is the rattling when the vibrate comes on.
I'll have to exchange. yes, minor.. but its a phone i have to live with for 2years.
thanks for the responses.
My volume buttons don't feel loose at all. But I do hear a rattle, I always thought it was the extended battery cover and my table or something.
I got to play with my sister in-law's LTE Nexus over the break and I actually liked that it was a bit heavier and thicker. I find the GN is a bit less comfortable in my hand compared to the NS. If there is an extended battery version for the GSM Nexus I will probably get it.

[Q] Questions from a Samsung user who is contemplating buying a One X

I currently have a SGS2 and I'm seriously contemplating buying a One X, mostly because SGS3 was a huge disappointment for me. I have a few questions though. I hope you can help with at least some of them.
1) How does it really feel in the hand? Does it feel like plastic, or more like rubber? The plastic is one of the things I hate most on Samsung phones.
2) There is no wake up delay, right? On Samsung phones, after you touch the power button, you wait for around 1 second before the phone wakes up. How is it on HTC One X?
3) Is the power button easy to press? One thing I like about Samsungs is that the power button is easy to reach on the side. HTC puts them on the top. On a huge phone like this, how easy is the power button to press, especially when you're using it one handedly?
4) Does the phone react instantly when you press the capacitive buttons? Again, one thing I hate about Samsung is the hard home key, which also has a delay. There's no delay when you press home button on One X, right?
5) How good is sound with a really good pair of headphones?
6) How much space is really left from the sdcard to use? Some people say 25 GB, some say 26 GB, exactly how much is it? This is my only worry, since I have 17gigs of mp3s and I want to carry it all with me.
7) The lock screen can be removed completely, right? I hate all lockscreens, they are utterly useless. Nobody buttdials anybody, especially not me. I love the no lockscreen feature on ICS, I hope HTC kept it on Sense 4. I really don't want any lock screen at all.
8) Long press volume to skip songs feature is a must for me. I see that custom roms already have it, so just to be sure, it works, right? This is absolutely critical for me, since I listen to music without taking the phone off my pocket.
9) Can the crappy horizontal multitasking thing on Sense 4 be replaced with standard ICS recent apps screen? With sense, you need to swipe a lot to get to an app, while on stock ICS it's a lot easier. So far I haven't seen any mods that do this, but maybe I'm missing something.
1) How does it really feel in the hand? Does it feel like plastic, or more like rubber? The plastic is one of the things I hate most on Samsung phones.
it feels very strong/robust/a good feel to it,hard to describe as such
2) There is no wake up delay, right? On Samsung phones, after you touch the power button, you wait for around 1 second before the phone wakes up. How is it on HTC One X?
mine is very depndant if i leave it for a while it is like all other handsets its take -1 sec but if i use it then press button and 3-10 secs later it comes on instantly
3) Is the power button easy to press? One thing I like about Samsungs is that the power button is easy to reach on the side. HTC puts them on the top. On a huge phone like this, how easy is the power button to press, especially when you're using it one handedly?
i had a nexus s before this and the power button is easier on the samsung phones because of the side 1, sometimes i find it a ball ache from the samsung i had prior to this.
4) Does the phone react instantly when you press the capacitive buttons? Again, one thing I hate about Samsung is the hard home key, which also has a delay. There's no delay when you press home button on One X, right?
yes.perfectly.
5) How good is sound with a really good pair of headphones?
you dont need a good pair just the standards will do, you can activate beats enhancement via audio player,

6) How much space is really left from the sdcard to use? Some people say 25 GB, some say 26 GB, exactly how much is it? This is my only worry, since I have 17gigs of mp3s and I want to carry it all with me.
its user dependent, what apps you have and so forth ovb the locked handsets with networks will have slightly less due to there crap that goes on them, but generally 25-26 is a base level,
7) The lock screen can be removed completely, right? I hate all lockscreens, they are utterly useless. Nobody buttdials anybody, especially not me. I love the no lockscreen feature on ICS, I hope HTC kept it on Sense 4. I really don't want any lock screen at all.
yes that is correct.
8) Long press volume to skip songs feature is a must for me. I see that custom roms already have it, so just to be sure, it works, right? This is absolutely critical for me, since I listen to music without taking the phone off my pocket.
no comment, mine doesnt, i and i have leedroidv5 rom.
9) Can the crappy horizontal multitasking thing on Sense 4 be replaced with standard ICS recent apps screen? With sense, you need to swipe a lot to get to an app, while on stock ICS it's a lot easier. So far I haven't seen any mods that do this, but maybe I'm missing something.
on the htc with the new multitasking it is far easier and more free flowing than stock ics tasker,
dont be put of by it, it is soo much more easier to do multitasking bettter then ever.
hope this helps dude,
i have had mine since launch now and its flawless, great battery life 22hours plus, very speedy, just awesome, glad i have this over sgs3 tbh. hope this helps anything frther let me know,
1) How does it really feel in the hand? Does it feel like plastic, or more like rubber? The plastic is one of the things I hate most on Samsung phones.
It feels solid, to me it feels better than the S2 (I never really liked the S2).
2) There is no wake up delay, right? On Samsung phones, after you touch the power button, you wait for around 1 second before the phone wakes up. How is it on HTC One X?
I think there is a short delay while the core's ramp up cos when you're not using it, the phone switches to the companion core for really really low standby power consumption. Nothing more than 1 second though.
3) Is the power button easy to press? One thing I like about Samsungs is that the power button is easy to reach on the side. HTC puts them on the top. On a huge phone like this, how easy is the power button to press, especially when you're using it one handedly?
It's easy to press if you have largish hands, cos the power button is angled slightly forward, and not 90 degrees downwards from the top.
4) Does the phone react instantly when you press the capacitive buttons? Again, one thing I hate about Samsung is the hard home key, which also has a delay. There's no delay when you press home button on One X, right?
Yes very much so.
5) How good is sound with a really good pair of headphones?
Sound is decent, but I haven't tried my senn's on the HOX yet, too bulky to carry around >.<
6) How much space is really left from the sdcard to use? Some people say 25 GB, some say 26 GB, exactly how much is it? This is my only worry, since I have 17gigs of mp3s and I want to carry it all with me.
On default about 26-27 GB of free space, I guess depending on what crap your carrier installed on your phone.
7) The lock screen can be removed completely, right? I hate all lockscreens, they are utterly useless. Nobody buttdials anybody, especially not me. I love the no lockscreen feature on ICS, I hope HTC kept it on Sense 4. I really don't want any lock screen at all.
I like my lockscreens, so I haven't really tried removing it
8) Long press volume to skip songs feature is a must for me. I see that custom roms already have it, so just to be sure, it works, right? This is absolutely critical for me, since I listen to music without taking the phone off my pocket.
Never tried, but I think this can be set. Although if this does work, it may be cos I'm on LeeDroid and not stock.
I'm not sure about this, cos I don't open too many apps at once and when I do, I just automatically close them one by one. Kind of a habit Also, I prefer the Sense recent apps rather than the ICS default one. Both needs scrolling so it's up to your preference.

It feels solid; it's a single piece of material after all. There's no bend or flex. It does feel a little slippery because of the fineness of the matte finish. I'm using it in the case pictured below which adds very little weight, protects the back and camera, and improves grip.

That was mostly due to Samsung's using the hard button for multiple purposes and it waiting to see if you were short or long pressing. I find zero lag and the productivity lock screen is fantastic. In addition to the standard four items you preset, you can drag a meeting, mms, missed call, or e-mail in to the unlock ring and go directly to it. You can also swipe through multiples without having to unlock the phone. Simply brilliant.

I came from a i9100 and it took over a week for me to stop hitting the volume rocker on the side when I wanted to turn on the phone. How much you can do one handed depends on the size of your hands. With the phone in my left hand I can reach the power button with my index finger. I'd say I can do about 70% of what I did on the SGS2 with one hand. It's a big phone though. But I can't see any phone this big being any harder or easier to use one handed.

Yes. The only lag I've experienced is on the secondary weather animation. Sense is incredibly fluid as is moving between showing thumbnails of all seven screens and the home screen by toggling the home button. That stuttered on the SGS2.

I have Shure SE530's and find the sound (w/Beats off) to be brighter and better separated than on my SGS2. But that phone's not really a pinnacle to compare to. The SGS3 has a Wolfson DAC which will w/o question be better. BT streaming (A2DP) is significantly better than the SGS2.

I don't think so. It can be set as wallpaper w/o a password so you either drag one of four apps to launch them directly or just move the lock ring away to unlock it. It's very fast. If you're going to root I'm sure a ROM or tweak might be available. The productivity lock screen (w/o a password) may change your mind though.

No joy. The music player displays almost full size on the lock screen (that you don't want) so hitting the soft button shouldn't be that challenging.

I originally thought the same thing. There's some method to HTC's madness though. By showing recent apps nearly full size you can actually read them. If I've looked up a phone number or address I can toggle back and forth between navigation and the browser and actually see the info w/o having to open the background app. It really makes toggling for info easy and saves a lot of time.

I'm moving from Galaxy Note GT-N7000 to HTC One X..
1. More interesting user interface..
2. More user friendly..
3. No ugly battery and signal bar on ICS 4.0.3
4. Higher capability to pull coverage signal in WCDMA even the area less coverage..
5. Love HTC Sense effect..

My suggestion is to buy it and you will love it.
It will fits well for all your needs. And you can customize it to an high level.
It is far better than SIII.
I used to have the SG2 and the Note, but was especially disappointed by the poor build quality of these phones.
The chrome of the SG2 speaker peeled off after a couple of months, and there were many small dents.
The Note was slightly better, but is also easily dented/scratched/dented.
Also, Samsung customer service sucks. Unless it is covered under warranty (but be sure that they don't claim it is user damage), it will be very expensive to fix it.
From another former Samsung user:
1) How does it really feel in the hand? Does it feel like plastic, or more like rubber? The plastic is one of the things I hate most on Samsung phones.
It feels far better than any Samsung. I didn't really complain about the Samsung designs that much, because they never felt like they weren't solid enough for me, but the One X feels much better. There IS something to be said about a design without a removable back.
2) There is no wake up delay, right? On Samsung phones, after you touch the power button, you wait for around 1 second before the phone wakes up. How is it on HTC One X?
It's fairly common to have a very slight delay. I don't have any issues with delay though.
3) Is the power button easy to press? One thing I like about Samsungs is that the power button is easy to reach on the side. HTC puts them on the top. On a huge phone like this, how easy is the power button to press, especially when you're using it one handedly?
Uhh... I don't really know the right answer to this. I think I kind of like the power button being on the side a little more, but I have no issue with it's location on the One X. I typically only have to press it once when I'm using it, so it's not like I have to frequently reach to the top to press it while I'm using my phone. I'd say it's very much a non-issue to me.
4) Does the phone react instantly when you press the capacitive buttons? Again, one thing I hate about Samsung is the hard home key, which also has a delay. There's no delay when you press home button on One X, right?
Yep, capacitive response is very good. The Tegra 3 uses it's companion core as a touch screen controller which allows it to have very smooth reactions to your touch.
5) How good is sound with a really good pair of headphones?
Sound is decent. Beats is mostly garbage. My previous Samsung's blow the One X away in sound quality with the Wolfson DAC and Voodoo Sound. But then again, not much compares to those. This is really hard to answer though, because it all depends on what you want to hear. Beats is bass heavy, and this phone definitely has that if that's what you want. It doesn't have the pure quality as my SGS or Infuse though. Compared to your SGS2 though, it's probably at least on par, if not better.
6) How much space is really left from the sdcard to use? Some people say 25 GB, some say 26 GB, exactly how much is it? This is my only worry, since I have 17gigs of mp3s and I want to carry it all with me.
Roughly 26 GB.
7) The lock screen can be removed completely, right? I hate all lockscreens, they are utterly useless. Nobody buttdials anybody, especially not me. I love the no lockscreen feature on ICS, I hope HTC kept it on Sense 4. I really don't want any lock screen at all.
I'm pretty sure there are a few apps that can change/disable your lockscreen, but I use mine with an actual lock, so I don't really use them. Of course, if you use a custom ROM, this is not even a question.
8) Long press volume to skip songs feature is a must for me. I see that custom roms already have it, so just to be sure, it works, right? This is absolutely critical for me, since I listen to music without taking the phone off my pocket.
Not sure. If it did do it, I'd make sure to disable it. I can't stand that.
9) Can the crappy horizontal multitasking thing on Sense 4 be replaced with standard ICS recent apps screen? With sense, you need to swipe a lot to get to an app, while on stock ICS it's a lot easier. So far I haven't seen any mods that do this, but maybe I'm missing something.[/QUOTE]
Multitasking on the One X is just fine for me. I have no issue with their design over the stock ICS design. If you want stock ICS, you can flash a stock ICS ROM.

5T Slight vibration when bottom half is tapped

Hi guys,
I was tapping around the phone to see if there's any camera lens rattle like some of the previous iPhones I had but instead I noticed that the bottom half of the body would vibrate slightly when it was tapped on.
It vibrates very slightly and not a big issue (but sucks to have OCD problems). You would have to tap harder than how you would normally use the phone. Yea I know, no one would tap it like that, but was wondering if anyone else with 5T or even 5 had similar 'issue'.
I think the vibration motor moves a bit when the phone is tapped hard enough and it's causing the phone to vibrate slightly. You can also hear the 'ting ting' noise if you put your ear against the ear piece and tap the bottom part of the phone.

Very Minor OCD button issue here

Hi guys,
S20+ here.
So has anyone noticed that the power button when pressed or otherwise tends to go lower than the volume buttons.
The volume rocker button is brilliant in pressing or otherwise.
Power button feels flimsier, not loose as such but just when pressed goes down to the level of the side frame.
tbh I dont like Power button at all on S20+, its feel like unlocking Redmi 7 or so and not a flagship of flagships... hahaha mine very minor problem

Cost cutting quality loss that we have to deal with, it seems...
Apparently
Volume button does feel like it's "clickier" than the power button. Like the volume feels more "tight"? But yeah, OCD, not a real big issue kind of thing. I assume with a good case this won't be an issue at all. I'm waiting on my Grip case to arrive on Monday. I'll see then.
