I'm on MM Jasmine 6.0, which I did by going through the whole process described in the [HOWTO] MM upgrade.
Since I've done this upgrade, Kik has not been giving me any notifications for more than maybe a minute or two after the app is opened. After that time, I have to exit out, end the kik task, and reopen the app or I won't get any messages. When I do this, kik bombards me with all the messages I missed all at once, and will give me new messages for another minute or so until I have to repeat this process again. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling kik, loading an old copy of kik from TB, and running a older version of kik from apkmirror. Nothing seems to fix this problem which makes me think it's a MM/kik/push incompatibility, but there has to be some sort of fix right?
Any suggestions appreciated!
Edit: I think it might be linked to "Power Saving" but I used to be able to use power saving and get notifications on LP roms.
are you using greenify? You need xposed to get all notifications from hibernated apps. If note it might be doze, so check that out.

Hi.
Gmail keeps updating and eating storage space without asking me first.
I don't want it, as I prefer the htc client...so how do I stop it happening, automatic updating is NOT ticked.
I'm concerned about how this happens, as it implies any application can update without my permission which would seem to be a privacy risk (although its the storage usage that concerns me most)?

Are you rooted? I have not seen gmail update but deleting it should stop it from updating.
Gmail is a push email system so when an email appears in your inbox it will be pushed to your phone. It's how Android works. Although, as you said, turning off Gmail sync should stop this...
Apologies, maybe I wasn't so clear. It's not that 'emails keep arriving' that I'm on about!
I mean the actual "Google Mail" application itself. I don't use it...I have tried it on occasion but I always come back to using the HTC Mail application because I prefer the UI and I don't need instant push email, I'm happier scheduling to recieve mail every few hours.
BUT...what I find is that every so often, the Google Mail application UPDATES itself with a new release from the Market. I don't want that to happen, and I have to "remove the updates".
Same happened with Flash for a while which kept insisting on installing a big update that I had no interest in recieving, although that seems to have disappeared from my Applications list now (and I can still use Flash fine).
I'm not rooted, the stock ROM is fine for me, I've toggled that setting that enables all apps to install directly to SD...but things like the updates to Google Mail seem to take up a load of on phone storage.
Ah right!!! Unless Google ignores things for system updates I can't comment. I have the opposite issue in that nothing updates automatically ever!!
In the market page, can you turn off "automatic updates"? I think for google mail it is on by default.
Hmm, am having this same problem. Gmail App keeps updating, dispite auto-updates (for gmail app) unchecked. Problem is I'm using email-notifier app, which only works w/ earlier version, hence I need the current gmail version to remain.
For what it's worth, this is a non-HTC phone / stock ROM. Found this thread via google search and am posting here (sorry to revive old thread) in case there is some other 'android wide' solution someone's come up with.

Hey guys, about two weeks ago I was wondering why my mom hadn't called (we use Hangouts) and I thought it was weird. It was only until she called my cell phone that I realized that Hangouts wasn't working at all (even though it was open in the background).
I always used to get the call sound and the notification tray flashed saying that I was getting a video call. Same thing for messages (not SMS), even if I hadn't opened Hangouts all day at all, I would still receive SMS and video call invites. I accidentally Greenified Google Voice (since you can't Greenify Hangouts) and I thought that might be the culprit, so I degreenified it, and restarted my phone. That didn't work. I also Disabled a whole bunch of useless apks (or so I thought) with NoBloat and I'm pretty sure it was around this time that Hangouts stopped working and incidentally also any alarm app that I tried to use (I have to use stock alarm now). I re-enabled all of the disabled apks, and restarted my phone once again. This also did not work.
I have also posted on the official Google Hangouts Help forum about this issue. I have gone back on any changes I made that might have caused this issue. Google Voice is not greenified anymore, and I don't have ANY apks disabled at all. I even turned ChatOn back on thinking that maybe that was why.
Here is a list of things that I have already done that I have found on other forums:
Clear cache/data of Hangouts and Google Voice
Make sure Show Notifications is checked (it is).
I have uninstalled Hangouts updates, and reinstalled them.
I have restarted my phone numerous times.
I've shut off my laptop, tablets, and desktop so it would HAVE to go through my phone. It didn't.
"Whitelisted" Google Voice and Hangouts on any application that could possibly be closing it.
I have a SG S3 SGH-T999 T-Mobile (Unlocked) with baseband version T999UVUENC2. I don't remember how exactly I rooted my phone but I just know it's rooted. I'm on 4.3 and I have been for ages. It kind of feels like, even if I physically open Hangouts it's hard for any application to recognize that's it's running in the background, and in fact, some applications don't recognize it at all even if I just opened Hangouts.
I swear that every single apk I disabled was inconsequential, I disabled them off all those lists floating around for the S3 that say what that specific apk does, and if it's save to remove it. I didn't touch the red "nono" apks at all. The guy from Google just told me that Google Voice has nothing to do with Hangouts, so the fact that I Greenified Google Voice has nothing to do with Hangouts and wouldn't cause problems. I've tried everything the guy has told me to try but nothing has worked so far. Every other app is fine, there are no problems, besides Hangouts and any alarm app I install.
I don't know what's wrong, does anyone have a similar problem?
Thanks.
Try clearing data for all Google apps, especially GMS ones and gmail. Then reboot and set everything back up. If that doesn't help, back up all important data, including your internal SD. Then factory reset.

I have rooted 4.6.1 with nova launcher. I have tried both amazon store messenger and play store version. When I say no notifications I mean nome. Not eve if I had the app open and switched to my home screen but kept phone on. I have xposed but disabled most modules.
I really need this to work. I have checked app settings, manage notifications, and notification listemers and I don't know what else to try. I can't reset the phone. It took me a dozen hours just to ge.t everything setup.
Edit. I am not sure if any notifications are working right now. Got a text and only after profreminder app sent a reminder beep did I even know.
Edit 2. Outlook works. Attempting to try others.
Ideas welcome.
Hey sorry to do this, but wanted some new visibility from people who may have read the OP. If your notifications are working, could you let me know which if any apps you have disabled, if you are rooted, that sort of thing?

I was bothered by that issue and never got it working. Curiously though, the notification works only when you happen to be in the Settings section of the Facebook Messenger app.
I've changed FireOS for CM11. I don't regret it. Every push notification works as it should.
Has anyone experienced problems with some notifications? Just recently I stopped receiving push notifications for both Hangouts and Whatsapp? My messages only appear when I enter the app. I've even cleared the app data for Hangouts, uninstalled, reinstalled, and it solved the problem but only temporarily. I can't determine if it's a phone, marshmallow, or app issue. This is my first time on marshmallow and I've never experienced this before coming from KitKat on my HTC M8.
I've had the same issue since updating the OS software last week. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I'm not receiving push notifications for any apps anymore. All settings are turned on to receive them. I've even downloaded an app to push the notifications and it doesn't work.
Are you sure DND mode is not active?
Absolutely positive.
I managed to fix it through a whatsapp forum about not receiving push notification for that particular app. Hopefully this helps the OP.
When I got my phone I restricted background data on google services because it used 10gb of data within a 10 minute period of turning on my phone, mostly coming from that. For the first 2 months I was still getting push notifications for all my apps, but with the most recent OS update something must have changed it so the settings were no longer compatible.
So I re-enabled background data on google services and it started to work.
See if that helps. If not, I'm stuck on ideas.
Good luck an let us know how you go.
I was wondering if anyone had any problems with yahoo mail I only recently get emails notifications Wen I open the app I can't find anywhere in settings Were you can change sync every 5 minutes or so on I don't know what it's set at

Hey! I'm having an issue with facebook messenger since the nougat update(I'm now on OOS 4.0.2) . After turning the screen off messenger and all of its services are killed(I checked in running services), including chathead service and messaging service. Unfortunately with no messaging service I can't receive any messages until I manually start the app. I updated through OTA without factory resetting, after the problem occurred I tried factory resetting but it didn't help. Does anyone know if this is a messenger problem or a nougat problem and of any possible fix?

Go to settings -> battery - > Aggressive doze and app hibernation -> find fb messenger and put it into not optimized app group.
I don't have aggressive doze turned on, also auto close high power usage apps is turned off.
I think your problem should be solved if you gonna use Facebook with chrome meanwhile. It's updating your news, messages and notifications in your statusbar. It's more battery friendly. Or use the app "swipe for Facebook". The official fb-app isn't the best choise - the battery drain is huge. @thalvadzhiev
I'm not sure the problem is connected to the main Facebook app, since I'm getting Facebook notifications(like if someone posted in a group), but I'm not getting messenger notifications.
Try to clear app data and cache of Messenger app, you won't lose your chats, only settings. Then login again and report here again
@thalvadzhiev do what @slmadmax said. It makes sure your messenger won't be killed.

I don't even have aggressive doze turned on. Also I've found that usually messenger survives through the night but once I start using it during the day it starts dying again. Since doze is on through the night and doesn't kill it maybe it is not the one that kills it during the day too.

Then Idk.. U can try it but if it still happens it might be a messenger issue.
