Is OnePlus one old enough to upgrade to Oneplus three ? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Is it worth it ?
what about custom roms ?

Customs will be, for now I'm not planning to change my opo to newest op3 because it works well and have good support in custom roms, if i damage it or smthing then only one option nothing more- op3

Grab this oneplus 3 for the specs and build quality. Im still using oneplus one

I think I will also move to the 3 from the 1.
I hope it has good development like the 1.

My opo is 1.5 yr old. Still in mint condition but I might update to op3 in 3 months or so.

since they released source code, i hope that development will be on par with 1+1, maybe better
since the device has great stable ground in terms of specs for development

Oneplus one uses a snapdragon 801 and three uses 820
There's generations of difference in processor and processing power, if it doesn't matter then you can choose the OPO but others than SD801 might fare better

It's all about you OnePlus 1 will be used for long time , since has a development comparable to nexus. But OP3 is a pretty nice upgrade. Maybe wait for some users experiences..

Had my oneplus one for 2 years now and just wanted an upgrade. Was going to wait for the next Nexus but I just couldn't resist. Impressed that oneplus have released source code already and with the price I expect many developers will pick one up.

It's up to you. Oneplus One i still very fast device, 3 GB RAM is more than you need in clear android. You can upgrade if you really need better camera, i dont see other reason to "upgrade".

I'm very happy with my opo.. It has a few scrtaches and such but it handles everything I throw at him with a glance and also development is still great. I'll buy a new phone only when development for opo suddenly stops, my battery will die or I'll brake it. Only weakness is the camera in my mind because I have some dust on the lens and it doesnť perform very well anymore.

This is a question only one person can answer. Yourself. Every one had different reasons why they would consider an upgrade. It is very hard to upgrade from the opo. I'm keeping mine as a spare, but I want to get onboard the 64 bit train, and the op3 is the way to do it. Leaps and bounds a much better upgrade than the op2. I couldn't justify that purchase, but for this one, it was an easy choice.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk

Nope, unless you`re OPO doesn`t have NFC, the SD820 cpu or a fingerprint scanner just to name some upgrades

I still use and love my OPO, but it is time for me... OP3 is on the way!

In fact, 2 ROM are out for it already. This will be a very popular phone like the OPO, I think.

If you are waiting for the development to stop on the OPO, then you will wait for many years, I believe. OPO is as popular as the nexus series in the development world. From the number of custom ROMS available for the OPO, I believe at least 2 ROM will be available for at least 3 more years.

totally agree. Since oneplus released their source codes op3 will be next nexus either much like op1. As for opo there never be a phone like it. It has three official roms (CM, OOS and ColorOS) and many more unofficial including ubuntu, jolla and I surely forget many more.
I gues I'll just wait couple of months to see how op3 stands and to see what next nexus will bring on the table. anyway buying one of those couldn't be a mistake..:good:

Still using opo 64gb sandstone now.
I know your guys love or this amazing devices. Op2,s6 ,Note 5. S7e, even nexus 6p, bought then sold. I really love this handset. it have nothing cool hardware nowaday. But the fun i had with custom roms, tweaks is limitless.
My op3 will arrived next week. Hope it could suprise me.

Hey guys..
Oneplus one has been launched today..

You also have to consider the fact that with the OnePlus One you're not getting VOOC charging, 128GB micro sd support, swappable batteries, complete open support for ROMing etc. In the end, InMyHumbleOpinion, the Find 7a is more versatile. There was a comparison made between the Nexus 5 and the OnePlus One in that they both had a "Nexus-like" appeal (one of those for obvious reasons...). You get a stock experience with no super flashy hardware appeals.
I think that you have many more options with the 7a, that you don't get on the One. Yes, you pay a little more for it, but you have the OPPOrtunity to do much more with it (see what I did there? )

That VOOC charging is really alluring!
Only thing im thinking about is ram.. The ram issues on my dad's s3 really makes me think twice before purchasing any phone..
Waiting eagerly for Find 7a to release in india.. So i can have the OPPOrtunity (even i did it now ) to experience the phone!
I am considering the Find 7 to replace my Note 2.
Any other devices I might want to consider? I really like a big screen but I can't go much over the height of a Note2/3.
Is there any info about the release date of Find 7?
Thanks
Find 7 (QHD) preorders will not start before the half of June.
I'll be replacing my iPhone 5 with the Find 7A. I've still got a Nexus 4, but feel the jump between those Android devices is pretty huge.

You must not have kids, I cant hang on to my previous phone very long before one of my kids has dibs on it. Saddly nowadays my grandkids are starting to go after them.
I'm sick of Sammy's shenanigans. The Find 7a will be replacing a Note 3. Its about the closest thing to a Nexus device with an SD card I can find.
Dumb question
I, too, am considering this to replace my phone (LG G2). But I keep hearing people refer to full ROM support, flashing, Nexus-like, etc. To me, this phone has none of those. What am I missing? There's not a single ROM in the dev section, nor on the Oppo forums. Is it just too early?
I know the other models have a Cyanogenmod edition - are we assuming that this will get the same treatment? I saw that ROMing and rooting won't void the warranty, which is awesome...but where are those options? Currently the only thing holding me back from buying this is that it has 4.3 (Color OS) rather than KitKat.
Thanks,
-Collin-

Nothing is available yet because the phones are shipping lol. Oppo is devoted to the Dev community. They give certain devs free devices and are open with their source code. Take a look at the Find 5, supported by ALL the big Roms; CM, Omni, AOSPA, PA, Slim, PAC, etc. Even the Samsung Galaxy devices didn't have as much support. In my eyes, Oppo is second to Nexus for the Dev community.

Can anyone with the phone say how it feels in the hand and how easily it is to operate with one hand? I know this phone is big but just want to get an idea of how usable it is. I would be coming from a Nexus 4 so quite a step up in size.
if they tweak the OS properly, if you flash a custom kernel and rom, the RAM is more than enough...like cmon having 3 hard core 3D games open all at once playing switching between them rapidly isnt something that you do everyday. Also, the COLOR OS 2.0 is pretty sexy, along with its maxxaudio...makes the speakers BOOM.
---------- Post added at 05:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 PM ----------
If you can touch the bezel of the nexus 4, and the bottom bezel with one hand, then you should be fine with the find 7, but if you have problems handling the nexus 4 well...just touch the top and bottom bezel and see if you can do that on a daily basis, most people cant. This phone was ment for two handed use though
loving this phone at the moment, still got my note 2 though but looks like i will sell it as i love the camera on 7a

as we all know one plus one is the flagship killer of 2014....
i am so much confused between opo & zenfone 2...

Went for the OnePlus One
Since the latest information regarding the Zenfone 2 was suggesting the $199 price tag would be for the 5" 720p device, I decided to order the OnePlus One instead.
It might be that the the 5.5" 1080p model ends up costing $199, but in Belgium (where I live), I suspected it will be more expensive.
The OnePlus one has been out for quite a while now, reviews are super positive. A LOT of development is going on for it, whereas the Zenfone 2 will be brand new in March (?), no reviews at all exist about this phone (will it be any good?) and development will start slow.
Also (correct me if I'm wrong), it would take some work to port CM to the Intel x86 platform whereas the OPO runs CM natively.
I ended up paying $356 for the OPO incl shipping, which seems reasonable. If the Zenfone 2 5.5" 1080p edition with 2GB of ram ends up costing $199, it would be a super deal, but I doubt it...

i totally agree with you most of the device running cyanogenMod have snapdragon or any other chipset....
but i have recently heard that cyanogen is not supporting opo anymore and they are working on their own os namely oxygen os.....
but if we look at the price point i think 4gb version of zenfone 2 will be available at 350$ or may be less than that...
well it can't predicted which device is much better...
well i will wait one week after the release of zenfone 2 and wait for the review of other people ...
hoping for good....
and about development i think xda have amazing devs i think anyone of the developer will definitely help asus users to get cm....

True. Another reason for buying the OPO now is that I really needed another phone as my current one is just too slow for daily use now. If I had time I probably would wait for the Zenfone 2 to come out, wait for reviews/opinions. If you have lots of time to wait, you can wait for the OnePlus 2 (Q3 I think) too.

You will regret the OPO if you are even a minor perfectionist, and the display quality is important to you. I went through 5 of them because I wanted to love it, but all 5 had terrible yellowish bottoms of the screen.

Yes, on all 5, and some worse than others. Maybe it has something to do with my retina cones!!
Are you using the on screen navigation keys? If so it makes it much less noticeable. Try turning them off, and brightness up and use hangouts or an app with a white background. Or better yet, don't even look for it and it will never bother you.
I was almost set on a OnePlus One, but I spent the day reading about the Zenfone 2, and now I'm quite intrigued by it. I have a few questions that I hope I can receive some advice on.
1. Purely in terms of performance, how does this particular Intel chip fare against the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One?
2. I keep reading comments about supposed poor battery life on Intel Atom processors, compared to the Snapdragons. Are there any concrete facts concerning this? Or is it just generally assumed that the Intel Atoms translate to poor battery life?
3. I'm concerned about the aspect of software updates and custom ROMs for the Zenfone 2. Asus apparently aren't particularly quick with OS updates, and I'm worried that the Zenfone might end up not receiving as many as something like the OnePlus One. I'd also want the option to try an alternative ROM or two, say CM, in the event I don't like Asus' factory ROM (a lot of people don't seem to like it). Do you guys think the Zenfone 2 will be restricted in that sense, being an Intel architecture as opposed to ARM?

Moorefield in the Zenfone 2 smokes the 801 and is more on par with 805. Battery shouldn't be an issue as the new Intel processors are built on 22nm FinFET vs the older 32nm planar. FinFET is what Samsung and TSMC are supposedly releasing this year with the new Samsung Exynos built on what is equivalent to 20 nm FinFET but they are calling 14nm. Anything that reads z2xxx are the older processors which I don't even know why Asus is using. The new processors are z3xxx model numbers. I had a Dell Venue 8 pro with the new Intel chip running full windows and the battery life was comparable to my iPad Air except it ran full windows
Actually it is Intel vs Snapdragon

For now 3 phones appeal my eyes . Will look how it goes with price near holidays / black friday
Moto X Play : lots of +++ , 2 -- : problems with big lag in chrome / twitter app ( hope is software and will be fixed ) . Screen 5.5 is little big
Nexus 5x : 2 --- no dual sim, low battery
Lumia 950 : 1 big - : PRICE !!!
Most likely Moto G
I was hoping the S6 mini would be released by now, but not even sure they are gonna release one.... There's loads of budget Samsung ranges like E and J series plus others. I was maybe thinking Moto G 3rd gen 2gb ram or maybe a LG G3. Like to stick with a good name to get regular updates.

There is no s6 mini. I was looking forward to it. Last month i bought galaxy alpha. With exception of battery life (bad), everything was great with that phone.
I sold it to my friend, so i have been using s4 mini since. Still looking for a sub 5-inch higher midrange phone. Hope we have one soon.
Nexus 5X seems to be dissappointing to some review guys. Terrible audio quality, less than average battery life and occasional UI lag are its problems.

Hey @Mitko
It has been a while since you posted video on s4 mini archive.
I love that channel Hope you comeback if we get an android 6 rom.
Thanks. Cheers.
I wouldn't upgrade to Moto G because it's not much better than the S4 mini actually. My sister has an S4 mini, and my mother a Moto G, and the S4 mini with CM12 is not much slower than the moto G 2014. If you really want to upgrade, I'd spend some bucks. Moto X Play is i guess the best phone for casual users who don't want to spend $600 right now. I have upgraded to a Zenfone 2 and I'm loving it, and although it beats the moto X in raw processing power, it has a lot of drawbacks the moto X play doesn't, including worse battery life
Think I may be using the s4 mini for some time to come, with the hope something new comes out that covers all the bases. That or I'm going to be forced to take the 5" plunge and get a S6 when prices drop a bit more... Bah I personally think all these newer phones of 2015 are all lacking in some department and my wallet isn't that deep. Long live the s4 mini...
On the list posted up i forgot to add OnePlus 2 : with some - : price is a little higher, availability, and i am afraid with Os upgrades . For example Oneplus One is still on 5.0 not even on 5.1.1 .
I`m tired of no updates on S4 mini, i want latest and greatest not with custom roms
I want to take the phone out of the box, place sims and use the phone. No more kernels, rom modding , custom roms.
That's exactly what I'm after. No offense to devs as they work REALLY hard to bring us new things, but I want a device that is updated regularly by the phone manufacturer themselves. Especially security updates. I feel security is always 2nd to looks. Security is No. 1 these days. Android is quite buggy and unless you own the latest and greatest device your most likely open to a lot of security holes. The best for updates are nexus and Moto. Samsung though the biggest concern are SLOW to release updates and if at all in our case.... It's these things that are pushing me away from my favorite company Samsung, and is even making me to think of an iPhone, one pure ecosystem. That and custom roms though usually always faster always have a lot of bugs throughout their history. It's a difficult decision...

Hey! I know, right!
It's been a while indeed. My S4 mini started to get huge random battery drains accompanied by heat and screwing around with different roms, stock firmwares, kernels, and even a brand new battery couldn't solve the issue. I hope that the S4 mini will begin to receive CM13 builds - official or unofficial, as a last treat before it truly becomes an ancient 2013 phone. I just asked arco68 about the matter.
Xaomi MI4 looks good to me. If I can save money, I think I'll buy it.
Btw, @SilviuMik I agree with you. I want to latest and greatest updates without customroms. So maybe I can buy a xperia device. Sonny told to updated latest version of Android their some devices.
Sorry for my bad English

Nope.
I would buy another S4 mini.. I can get them for $140 without subscription (Good thing!) here in Denmark (which is insanely cheap for Danish pricing), and it has one of the best communities ever here on XDA, as far as I can see.
It's definitely gonna be a samsung anyway, because I love Odin, and I wouldn't even dream about flashing another HTC. I own a Macbook, and I flashed an old HTC Desire yesterday, man it was ugly as hell. I ended up installing Windows 7 on an old computer just to get the random crap software working, as 8.1 and 10 didn't work and ... Omg you wouldn't believe how much of a pain in the ass it was! Took literally 11 hours straight with only a couple of lunch breaks. It did end up quite speedy on Android 2.3.1 tho, so it was worth it! I hate throwing old stuff out because of planned software obsolescence and forced upgrades because of (what I personally think is) artificial slowdowns. The phone works just fine, even with a couple of modern apps.
If any of you have any other recommendation for a good phone with lots of ROM's for it (that works just 95% of the time haha, I don't mind reinstalling every 3-4 weeks if I have too, it's not like I don't enjoy it..), I'm more than willing to hear you out! But for now I will stick with my S4 mini til something better comes up. Money isn't that much of an issue, as long as it's sub <$800 as I have a little voice in my head telling me to never spend the entire worth of a Macbook Air on a phone.
What concerns me is the lack of a powerful yet compact smartphone. I want to buy the S6 as prices have dropped slightly.
Also S6 has cm13 rom now.. so in a couple of months we can expect a stable cm13 and other related cm type roms. But battery
life on that phone is a problem. I can use a big phone but it should not have any flaws. Will wait and see if there are any good
phones coming out in next 1-2 months. Till then I will enjoy official CyanogenMod 13 nightlies....

LONG LIVE @arco68

Community development strength

You're a power user. Can the OnePlus 3 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the OnePlus 3. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I heard OnePlus released the source for the 3. If its true, the 3 would survive for as long as OnePlus 1
Oneplus released the sources while presenting the OP3. The warranty covers software changes made by the user. This device is all about editing every possible part. Community development strength = 200%
id say the development here soo far is better than the nexus devices.
The community here is amazing!!
It's a bit early to say, but it looks good.
Official CM in just days. Lot's of roms already with good support.
Definitely very alive. I was in the G4 community before; development was a ghost town.
Plus with Dash Charging kernel sources just having been released, there's literally not a single feature we'll be missing out on by during custom ROMs, unlike most phones.
I've heard the non OOS based ROMs have issues with the camera, is this true?
Dash charge is finally out so this is one of the main things holding me back at this point

Yes so CM-based ROMs lack the OOS post-processing for photos in camera.

That's unfortunate. Is there a way to export the OOS camera into a cm based ROM?
Dev support for one plus is excellent
This is what's pushing me toward buying a OP3 over the ZTE Axon 7. The ZTE may have better specs in some areas (ex. full USB 3.0 speeds, more frequency bands, expandable memory, sharper screen), but I've been reading that developer support for ZTE isn't good, at least for their other phones. And it's not like I'm going to really come close to filling up 64GB of space to begin with........just have to nudge the wife into signing off on the expense
One thing I'd be happy if it did come would be Multi Rom that be awesome to have on the one plus 3 So we can have more than one rom to boot back an forth instead of reflashing

OP is without a doubt a better choice if ROM development is important to you. That's why I'm here; I had both the Nexus 4 and 5 - I wanted to stay with the Nexus line, but the 6P had already been out for a while and I didn't want to wait for the next Nexus device. There have admittedly been a few kinks (I'm still battling random reboots), but overall, I think it was a good choice.

You're mirroring my situation almost exactly: I've had the Nexus 5 for about 2 1/2 years now or so, looking to upgrade, but the N6P is closing in on a year old, the new Nexus models are likely to be much more expensive than the N5 was, and I want something I can tinker with but won't be obsolete in 6 months or ignored by the dev community. Thanks for being an inadvertent guinea pig

Hahaha no problem.
The communiti on OnePlus One was great, and so many great ROM-s out there, some had better camera, some better batery, some had this some had that, but on op3, I really have no need to 'touch' anything, great camera, battery life is ok for me, multitasking great, and maybe I'm getting too old for experimenting

Would you ever buy a oneplus device again?

I don't know about you but my answer is NO. This thing did not live up to my expectations at all. The specs read like they are all premium but the device is low quality at best. Using the device is an actual nightmare. The camera is a blurry mess, the GPS never locks, the file system is crap and freezes up when you try to load things. I bought into the gimmick and I lost... Anybody want to buy this piece of junk for a low price so I can buy an iphone and just have something that works?
OH... the bluetooth constantly bugs out... another thing that annoys me every single day.
I like the phone just don't love it. My Pixel 2 XL still feels better when I pick it up. What chaps my hide is when my photos disappear or when my phone app just disappears when I'm talking to someone.
The 7T is just perfect. But I won't buy newer phones if they have display a la "Samsung Edge". I hate the curved one.
I found the 5T to be super premium build quality. It's amazing. The Pixel 2 XL I bought at the same time was absolute junk. It had a noticeably poorer build quality and a really bad OLED screen.
I am getting a 7T Friday and will see if they maintained the great build quality (although I had an 8 Pro I returned for a week and it had excellent build quality like my 5T). I can't see where the OP is coming from regarding it not feeling premium? Is it just an OS perspective? I only ran OOS on my 5T for a couple weeks before switching exclusively to AOSP.
Sorry but this is nonsense! your argument is vague and silly. what is "low quality"? I still have my oneplus one, the oneplus 3t, oneplus 5t, all working good and now a 7t, which looks great and is great....
Absolutely yes! I find my 7T is perfect and worthy for the price paid. I don't have any issues or hardware errors.
Rooted and using a custom kernel
I don't know actually. I find the OnePlus phones to be still very good, but I'm kinda disappointed on how the team is struggling to keep them updated since they began to release lot of phones every year.
Plus, I like the improvements they made with the camera on the new OP8 Pro, but I want a phone that is totally comparable to iPhones/Galaxy phone in that area if I have to spend 900+ euros.
The 7T is literally perfect.
This is my first OP phone and I'd say - yes. I hope there'll be new OP phone without curved display.
If they release reasonably priced phones with flat screens. The price for the 8-series is too much considering it's a tencent phone.

I would gladly pay $1000 for a flat screened 8 Pro. But it doesn't exist and the S20+, even ignoring the terrible OS skin, is $1350 from Samsung unlocked. That is just too much for basically the same phone and a crippled software experience. And the S20+ has a curved screen as well! Although not as bad as the 8/8 Pro.
I have been with OP for the last 3 months, 7T is my first OP. Feel happier than with the other chinese brand X (4 years with them).
I recommend the OP, but please no pop up camera and curve edge.
I have to agree with the OP.
I'm having the exact same issues they are. Since most are software related I was hoping updates and custom ROMs could fix,a real shame there isn't any development for this device
For me 7T is almost perfect. I love it. If only battery and average stock camera indoor pic were better. I love to tinker my phone so with gcam , camera issues are solved ?. Since I don't game , so battery is enough for me to last full day with 20% left. YMMV.
I went from OP2 to HTC U11 to OP7T. Have no regrets. Will purchase OP9T if there are no better alternative. I change my phone every 2 years.

Yes, there are as far as I know just 2 ROMs out there... Neither work with MMS on Verizon.
If you have another recommendation would love to hear it- for me just looking for stability and speed.
Thanks for everyone on this forum helping make the device great!
Yep, had three... OnePlus One, 6T, 7T (bought the 7T when the price went down, sold the 6T).
I don't buy them when they first are released. I wait until a new one is about to be released, then pick up the previous years model
typically at a reduced price.

There are three ROMS available right now. I would recommend Omni for speed and stability, but not sure about your specific use-case.
IDK, no matter what setting I pick, the ringtone for google messages does not work and the do not auto update option in playstore does not work. This is only an issue on the 7T.
