The LG G3, how has it fared for you so far? Please share your opinion.

Hi fellow G3ers,
I have had the device for just over a week and I must say I am very unhappy with it.
Not sure if I just have rotten luck with devices but I've had 2 Nexus 5, both of which had problems either rooted or not and no matter what custom ROM I had installed and now the G3.
I am experiencing severe battery drain, a major lag on many applications and just generally not happy with it.
Here is a quick video of my 5 biggest disappointments of the device:

well, you either love it or hate it!
for me is the best device i had so far, comin from galaxy S4, take some time pal, remove bloatware, get a root, there are plenty solutions for lag around here... new firmware 10g does draining more battery( UK version) but give it a week and probably a new update will come out, if dont wanna wait just get another KDZ like the one from Germany apparently is far better than UK one, and try it, if that doesnt help then go back to nexus

Hey,
Actually getting an S5 because of the overall package, like Amoled, dev support and various other things like IP certification.
I might try and play around with other KDZ's but really disappointing overall to have had such a bad experience with supposedly such an amazing phone.

Never played with s5... But i wanted a bigger screen in smaller package i would say.. And i really started to hate samsung for this Knox.. wait till the the phone gets unlocked and you'll see what devs will cook for this device!

I'm very happy with mine. The battery life is the best when idle. I also avarage around 6 SOT so Thats pretty freaking good to me.
Performance side, zero lag. None. I have the 3gb version which is maybe why. I would never buy a 2gb of ram phone anymore simply because something tells me its going to be the minimum from now on and 3gb recommended for future versions of android.
Design its the best and most efficient of all phones. Awesome camera. Great natural looking screen and plenty bright. Brighter than the s4. Its just a good all around package. S5 would best it if it wasn't for the design and over saturated screen though.

Samsung to LG - satisfied?

Im eligible for an upgrade. After thinking about it, I think the camera is my most used function after the phone itself. That being said, I'm trying to get opinions of people who have switched from Samsungs to LG's.. I'm considering the LG G3 vs. Samsung Galaxy 5 vs. Note3. I've watched reviews and read articles. Looking to get the respected views of the XDA community before I pull the trigger.

yes I am very happy with the LG G3 phone find this to have much better connection performance than the Samsung Note 3 as well as the size is very decent and the actual screen size is not that different
the camera performance is also exceptional especially in low light conditions I find this to be much superior

Came from S3 to G3. I played with my buddys S5 and was very disappointed in the size to screen ratio. On top of that, the whole knox thing, so i am happy that i dont have a samsung phone anymore.

Galaxy S5 looks like a kiddies toy compared to the G3

The camera on the G3 is amazing. I love this phone so much better then my Note 2.

I came from the Samsung Galaxy s4. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Better signal, nicer screen to device size ratio, better software than TouchJizz, and I know lots of ppl are complaining about the lag and the 801 not being ready for 1440p screen but I haven't had any issues and it's been way nice. No more lag than the s4 I had to go to a gpe ROM to get rid of it on the s4. Overall I love it and an glad I made the switch.

Came from a nexus 4 and a sgs2 before that. I'm probably not as picky about things as others. Being that I am on t-mobile and can flash roms that are out there I'm pretty happy with the phone. Any complaints I had about the phone before installed the zone rom are gone. I don't care about battery because I'm usually near power. So all in all happy.

I believe the S5 is a great device after rooted and with a custom ROM (Snapdragon version, Exynos is a big load of crap). The pictures come out better on the S5 but don't trust in the waterproof feature (it's my honest opinion). The G3 is an excellent device and feels more solid and responsive, but the developer community is still a little slow (due to locked bootloader), but I think it'll get a lot better with time.

I love my G3 but I miss my s5 at times, but mainly for my gear 2 watch. The G3 is IMO the perfect compromise between the nexus five and the s5. It's more or less what I expected from the s5 before I found out it was a incremental upgrade of the s4 which was an incremental upgrade of the s3. I too am looking forward to a bootloader solution. That being said I find that the G3 still needs a little fine tuning but I'm glad to be rid of Samsung. They ain't gettin no more of my money, for their phones that is.

Coming from a Galaxy S4 and still using the Note 3.
I didn't think the S5 had enough improvements to warrant an upgrade from a S4.
The only downside is that the International G3 D855 has a locked bootloader whereas my old S4 didn't. I had no fears of Flashing whatever to my S4 and if I ever messed up, it is only a few buttons of pressing from Recovery. I can't do that with my G3. I am very cautious on what I change/modify on my G3. Other than that, I love my G3

Had Samsung for a long time. Since G2, I never looked back. G3 is a huge improvement and I like how its closer to Google experience than Sammy or G2.
Plus when I heard LG was one of the companies signing up for the Google android initiative I have no doubts LG will have best phones and keep their updates coming.
Few things that are immediate .. Vibration. Strong and you'll have less missed calls. Touch .. Less touch delay means easier typing.

I switched from Galaxy S4. I like this LG G3 so much more. 1 is design. I just think the rounded square look of Samsung is boring. 2 is display. Don't like unnatural colors of AMOLED. 3 is rarity. Too many Samsungs

Well I came from a 4yr stint with my original Galaxy S (I9000) so it is a HUGE improvement lol I was going to upgrade to the S4 but when it came out I hated the design so thought the G2, but I couldn't do without an SD card and removable battery..then thought the S5/M8 but S5 design is **** & boring let's face it and the M8 is just a phone for sheep as everyone and their dog will get it because simply, it looks fantastic (like Beats headphones, but unlike Beats it actually IS real quality lol). Also, when I went into Carphone Warehouse, the advisor there told me the best phone they had was the M8 or alternatively the G3 second. The M8 is robust and solidly built and had never been brought back for repair in that particular shop. He said the G3 was just as good but that most people went on brand name so didn't trust or know what it had to offer; himself included until an LG rep came and showed them. He told me to stay away from all Samsung phones (S5/Note 3) as they are the top returns for repair with such things as the battery expanding so it doesn't fit anymore.
Yes I miss the opportunities for custom ROMs but I'm sure this will happen soon as it does with every phone - is there actually any phone that cannot absolutely be hacked in some way at some stage? The other thing is that Samsung officially stopped supporting the I9000 2yrs after they released it so I think ICS was the last official ROM and to get GB you had to install custom. Tbh I remember reading and hearing from people that LG pretty much do the same thing but thesedays that doesn't matter to me as I would never stay stuck on stock if there are custom ROMs available, and I'm positive that most phones will have active development communities for years past their sell by date.
I am extremely happy with my G3 and not sure if I would go back to Samsung again in the future when there are so many worthy and equal/superior contenders out now.

Come from note 3 and I want to say that lg g3 is a great phone however I'm on 10 H EUR version 32GB 3gb ram and when i try to make a video on high resolution the screen freezes and get An error, I'm not rooted or anything else now I'm looking to see what note 4 will look like if it get my expectations i will sale this becouse of lack of developing
Btw i tried make few photos and phone frezed and restarted and got a botloop had to reset to factory settings so I'm not so satisfied about the product yea the screen is great but when you come from a phone that can do anything with it I mean i like flash stuff custom roms and so on to pretty much standard is a down to me as for battery life if you read email and stay a bit on Facebook and so on you will get a full day but if you pay on it or your a hard user you will need battery replacement so my advice wait for the competitions to come out

I came from... Well loads of different devices like the note 2, mi3, nexus 4,5 and htc butterfly s. Half have locked bootloaders and the other don't. The ones that did the software wasn't lagging up the phone so not much issues. But on the note 2 nexus 4 and 5 being able to mod the system and flash stuff without worrying to much of bricking the phone is a plus. Where as you can't do the same on the G3 at the moment. My G3 is just lagging compared to my other two SD800 phones for some reason :S

I came from a Galaxy S3 and I doubt I will ever go back to Samsung. Too many hardware issues. Everyone I know with Samsung phones are always complaining about the usb ports (which I had issues with too) I have an old LG GT540 from 6 years ago and that thing still kicks around.

that "knox thing" will be part of next android by google (check IO 2014)

Nexus 6 and Android 5.0 Lollipop finally revealed. Will be available on Sprint.

According to the nexus 6 page on the very bottom it seems that it will be available on all 4 big carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-mobile. Ofc; you can still get it from the Play store. The release date given by google is late october; no specification as to if it applies to just the play store or the carriers as well. I'm hoping it releases late this October because I get my upgrade late November. If I have to I will probably wait, I'm sure many of our dev's here will successfully port Android 5.0 to our devices. I'm more interested in the full release of the OS; the multitasking features and the uniform material design looks so nice.
So, thoughts? Is android 5.0 everything you have hoped for? Will you be upgrading to a Nexus 6 soon?
I somehow managed to delete my opinion on the the device, I'm loving the specs; the 6" screen is pushing me away though.
When I say I plan on upgrading to the Nexus 6 I'm not 100% set on it yet. I was planning on going with the HTC One M8 simply because of the screen size, but I have used a LG G3 in stores before and I love how amazing the screen is so I'm very torn. The LG OG was such a great device for it's time, shame it never got an official update past 4.1 but it's hard to complain with all the dev support we get with it.

I might go for it but I'm still hating Google's propensity to think that cloud storage can replace the function of a microsd slot. Also a 6-inch screen, why? The phone still has to fit in my pocket. At this rate the number of people on these forums with manbags is going to blow up. Also $649 unlocked... ouch. I honestly don't know what Google was thinking here. They might be pushing their luck a little too hard here but I won't really know until I can hold it in my hand. On paper the size of the LG G3 used to sound like an atrocity so we'll see. Regardless the price isn't much of an issue if you pay it out over the length of a contract anyways but honestly, I'm disappointed.

I mean, when you look at the specs, that's when you realize what all that money is really going to.

I just want the finished Android L roms to get ported to the LGOG. As long as i'm up to date and the roms arent too buggy, I can stick with my LGOG for another year if I have to.

We'll definitely get some L ROMs sooner or later. We have some amazing developers here for our phone, so be sure that once the major ROM devs update their sources, we'll get updated as well.

I think since the 6 is WAY too big for my personal use, I'm gonna jump to the Nexus 5 next.

I have the G3 now and I love it. Battery life has been better for me than on the lgog, even with that amazing screen. The major downside to the G3 is development but we finally received twrp so the roms will be coming. But having root, freezing/deleting bloat(and there is a lot of it) and making mods have helped my g3 be lag free, last over 40 hours on a full charge and just be generally awesome. If you want something that is also awesome but has a ton of development - go with the m8. A lot of devs and themers who had lgogs grabbed the m8 so you will be in good company. Only a few of us from here have the G3 but Im happy with my choice. It's big but not unruly, the new nexus looks good but too big and still no sd card. And if 3000mah battery isnt big enough for you, zerolemon is selling a 9000mah battery you can swap right in. Just my two cents.

The rumors made me have higher hopes - its still gonna be a great phone with an insane amount of support. I have no use for it but I am really impressed by the nexus 9(my nexus 7 is collecting dust). That processor, even being a dual core and only having 2 gb of ram is crazy fast, and it's 64bit!

For me, I'm drawn to the N6 because I know it'll drop down to a decent price by time my upgrade is due (which would be summer of 2015), and, assuming I even get it, it'd be the most high-end phone I've ever owned, plus it's a Nexus, so development is guaranteed. I'm just modest If I were to get a G2, I'd be pretty happy with that.

Ha ha yeah I was checking on one of my bootanimations and saw this thread. Im good, biked more than I ever have so Im really sore but other than that Im good.
Nexus devices definitely have the best support but HTC is pretty solid(as is Sony, sadly we can't get xperia on sprint) and they come with other perks(removable storage, etc). I know HTC will be releasing another flagship(from some rumors, 2) before you're due for your upgrade and I have a feeling it will be better(and smaller) than the nexus 6. Biggest drawback to the HTC flagships seems to be the camera but that's also been an issue on Nexus devices. Nexus devices are still a great way to go. Their biggest selling point is having official updates before anyone else. My nexus 7 is solid, but between my phone and laptop I just dont have a need for a tablet. I wanted to hold out for the nexus 6 myself but now Im glad I didn't. Just too big for me and LG fixed my biggest issue with the lgog - sdcard support.
They're all great phones with pros and cons tho - really does depend on the user.

Still worthing buy the Nexus 5x in 2017?

So the new google pixel is out but it's pretty costly and since the budget is limited i was looking for a more economic option, so here i am.
Do you think that Nexus 5x is still good phone in 2017? Are you still satisfied with it or it should be better take a look for another phone?

that's kinda single case. in general the N5X works very good, is easy to handle/to mod and its greatly supported by developers and Google.
also, the Nexus is always first in getting Android updates alongside with Pixel. so yeah, imo its still worth it to buy.

Satisfied, and it is still a decent device. But if you are a heavy user with so many apps and multitasking requirements, I'd advise against it as a daily driver.

Yes. After more than a month of use, updated to 7.1.1 and jan security update, so far no problem. This one is my daily driver.

For the "right" price of course. You should try and negotiate.

I can buy three Pixels with my budget, but Im not considering changing my 5x as a daily driver yet. Using it since jan 2016, not a single issue except for the back cover getting dirty easily. Light, not too big not too small, not expensive, powerful enough for almost any task, great display, decent stereo speakers with mod, accurate GPS, good battery life with 7.1.1, always up to date, durable and impressive cameras.
Theres no better smartphone on the market IMO, of course depending on your wishes, you wont need anything other that N5X cannot offer.

It depends on who you are. A heavy user playing games, having a tens of apps opened or rather a decent one with social/media focus? This being a good device for sorta a middle demanding user. It's still got very good camera, vanilla Android, regular updates, good dimensions etc... Speaking for myself, I've always been happy with it. It just fits my needs

i have this device from 1 month! it not so much time .. but enought for test it in deep.
the value depends on how much money you will spend!
because the 5x have some deficiencies compare with over middle range! display - battery - audio-ram is under the average!
although the cpu is a very good compromise: good performance and very low heat! and the camera is very very good too!
take your sum but i suggest to look something else and more future-proof ( mininum 3 gb of ram )
ps. I bought it because a friend of mine gave it to me for 100 euro 32 gb hehehehe and it have just 5 months. DD

It is a good phone unless you have unreasonable expectations. Works good for me

Despite of the bootloop issue happening globally, I strongly suggest avoid buying it or any google device like 6P and other LG Devices for your own good

I just got mine early this month, I bought it coz I know it would still get the next Android version after Nougat. This thing takes great photos, arguably comparable or better than what the current flagships has to offer. And feels just as snappy. I would recommend it.

For some reason, I don't get no bootloops at all. I have stock everything.

Of course not all of us would experience that right away, LG itself claimed the hardware problem presented on Nexus 5X devices which causes the device to loop endlessly, telling to refund them as they're no longer have the parts to repair it.
I have my 5X, I bought it 2016, January and I wasn't aware of the hardware problem happening on 5X due to the bad soldering on the motherboard which the flash memory and Snapdragon chip residing on, few days ago I didn't knew that was the end making my $400 phone a paperweight, the worse thing is warranty has already expired plus I'm living outside the US and Europe so Google and LG's support are unavailable and are out of reach, so what now? Google left me out of the blue for nothing on this crap phone. I'm a huge fan of their nexus devices and 5X was my first ever phone I bought and same reason as yours why I bought it, very disappointed so never again to them and LG.
It's not bad for me to say him avoid buying it because I'm just concerned about it, rather than blame everything at the end of the day when it happens...

My opinion: just buy it If you like the stock android with quick updates, and modding/custom rom
If so, it's excellent, great screen, great camera, a lot of community roms/mods so you cant get bored...
But If you are not going to enjoy that you better go to other option

I'm a huge fan of their nexus devices and 5X was my first ever phone I bought and same reason as yours why I bought it, very disappointed so never again to them and LG.
It's not bad for me to say him avoid buying it because I'm just concerned about it, rather than blame everything at the end of the day when it happens...

They said the boot loops occurred after the Nougat update. I got the phone under marshmallow and updated it with no issues so far. Not sure if the boot loops occurs on all models though as there's a couple of them. I got the H791 (UK.EU version). Crossing my fingers.

Well, I got it for £200 and it is way worth the money. I think it's okay as a daily driver, but if you had the money - get the Pixel. It's just.. better. If the Pixel is a bit too much maybe get the Nexus 6P. It's an upgrade from this although personally I find 5.2" to be a perfect phone size, and alas the Pixel only comes in 5" and 5.5".

My short answer No, do not buy. I was debating the Moto G4 Plus versus Nexus 5x last November and purchased the Nexus. It is impossible to say whether I would have liked the Moto better or not but I would research alternative phones before purchasing.
My longer answer is that the Nexus 5x works fairly well but often feels laggy, especially if you have too many chrome browser tabs open. Task switching often feels like my old memory constrained Windows 7 desktop computer. This is without playing any games or loading the Facebook app. These statements are made while running totally stock with the 7.0 OS release without any skins or launchers or widgets loaded. Also I might be primarily commenting on software issues with the Chrome Browser rather than the device itself but when on slow Wi-Fi or 3G connections I sometimes experienced greater than one second User Interface glitches when switching between apps or even getting the on screen keyboard to load in order to type. This all happened while on a long vacation/travel where internet access was often bandwidth constrained. Still I found the user experience to be poor even under good network conditions. I kept a few communications/text-chat apps loaded along with the browser and email and occasionally used some banking or calculator or news apps, enough that memory had to be reclaimed which appeared to be the biggest source of the UI pauses.
To add a little more context I purchased the 5x to replace my Asus Zenfone 2 after its wifi interface had died. The Zenfone 2 had 4 GB of memory and always task switched with ease and never felt laggy (though it was not a speed demon) even though it had a heavier skin. My old Nexus 4 was very SRAM constrained which eventually caused me to upgrade but it never felt as unresponsive as the newer 5x.

Then that's great for you your phone is running good 'til now. It just happened nougat is currently rolling out the time more and more users are getting affected because the older the phone, the more it's getting to an end, that's why lots of users feels like nougat is the problem when hardware is the fault itself, google and LG already declared their statement about it.

Best new phone after S4Mini ?

Hi Guys,
I'm a favorite user of our S4mini. But having it for almost 4 years now i'm starting to see it gets a bit old. I have used several custom ROMs, but in the end all are ending up a bit slow..
So i'm looking for a follow up device. Any tips? Right now I'm thinking on buying the Galaxy S7..
New phone should be;
- Fast, 'flagship' specs
- A great custom ROM community
- Good camera
- If possible, not to BIG (s4mini size is perfect, but hard to find i guess)

Wait for new Sony x compact. The current one is really good but I'm sure new one will be better.

Oneplus 3 or 3t

Here is my story...
Was looking for something compact and lightweight like s4 mini and also reasonably powerful (don't need flagship power. AMOLED and non stock Rom is also must. Bought a LENOVO P2. ...used for 2 months and sold it. Pros: Good battery life and ultra fast charging. What i didn't like was size and weight...too big for my hands. Also didn't like the Rom as it was close to stock.
Then i bought zuk z2. Liked nothing. Specially the LCD display. I will never buy anything if its not AMOLED and that too SAMSUNG calibrated. Device was thick and boxy....ergonomics were poor.
Moral of the story: only flagship cpu and very big bbattery don't make a good device. Its balance and optimisation of everything. And my opinion is SAMSUNG has mastered the art of making fantastic android smartphones. I hate stock,Los/based, miui etc. After trying everything....touchwiz(tweaked) and Flyme os are the top.
So far i have short listed GALAXY A5 2017. Though it is still large to my standards. ....after the recent price cut it seems the most viable option to me. Thanks for reading.

I started with trying to replace 2013 moto x. Tried the following :

Oneplus x
Now running galaxy s5 and s4 mini both on RR and working pretty good. I prefer size of s4 mini but it is Lil under powered.
Wish I would have kept oneplus x. Now waiting for new Sony compact.

I have decided on the HTC 10, now that the price had dropped to ~ 1/2 of the launch price. It is one of the better "ex-flagship" type phone that is not too big, still is plenty powerful even tho it has last year's Top SOC.
Unlockable bootloader & great ROM support, and solid build. Design is a bit dated, but I think it will be a solid phone for me. (Ordered on-line, awaiting delivery ....)
The S7 is my second choice - better screen, better camera. But I am leery of the glass back, and the use of micro USB rather than USB-C swayed me towards the HTC. Plus Samsung's update record is spotty, and you can only get ROM support if you get the G930F variant. And Sammy seemed to have added multiple hurdles to the bootloader unlocking process compared to the S4 mini.

I was pretty much in the same predicament as you. After first giving the new Nokia 6 a chance, I decided that the screen (5.5 inches) is too big for my liking, especially coming from a S4 mini with a 4.3 screen, so I returned it.
I then decided to get the S7 (flat; not the edge variant) a chance, and so far I'm happy with it. If you get one with an Exynos processor, there are enough different roms to choose from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development).
Plus, it's also Samsung so it's not something completely new. Yes, the screen is larger as well (5.1 inches), but with a nice back case to get a better grip on the phone it's still decent and not too big if you ask me.

Let me first say, I don't consider myself an expert like that. I've only tested a few so far.
For example, Official LOS, which worked quite well. The only problem was that my S7 (SM-G930F) unfortunately has different camera sensors than most others. It looks like sometime in the last 1-3 months, Samsung has started to also use Sony camera sensors instead of the regular Samsung ones, which are not yet supported by LOS, so my camera isn't working when using LOS. It just stays blank.
The developers are aware of that and there might even be a fix for this issue, but I haven't researched it that thoroughly.
I wanted a rom with root, Xposed (Xprivacy, Gravitybox, and a whatsapp module) and all the main features, so I'm now using Helios 7.20 with Magisk and Xposed enabled. So far, everything I need is working, so no complaints on my part. I haven't updated to 7.21 yet, so I can't tell you how that version works.
Battery life is okay. No huge drain, but then again I have gps and all them location services disabled, but my data connection is turned on 24/7.
