So I bought the phone a few days ago and love it (coming from tmo's vibrant). Yesterday however I started noticing something with the screen that I'm not sure if it applies to all of them in one way or another. When you pull the notification curtain down there appears to be a few discolored (darker) vertical lines that are noticeable where it should be solid gray. Depending on the brightness there more visible and vice-versa. I found a thread on the European version of someone reporting the same thing. The lines are definitely more visible with dimmed screen in low light conditions.
Anyone notice a similar deal?
I have the same issue every now and then. Especially when i open the market, not really a nuisance though.

Yeah I noticed it there and on the xda app as well. Just wondering if that's a defect or not, if so I might exchange it. I could still run in to the same issue though..

I apologize if my attempt at search terms didn't yet yield an answer that has already been posted.
On my Droid Charge if I tilted the phone up or down in portrait mode it would cause the screen to take on a blue hue. It turns out it was because of the screen protector I was using. Took it off, no problem.
However, I have no screen protector on my Galaxy Nexus, and I'm seeing the same thing occur. Since the screens are hardly the same (AMOLED+ vs AMOLED, different resolution, different size) I can't really tell if its normal. The demo model at my store was out of commission.
Anybody else notice this or is there something wrong with my screen? My friend said his doesn't do it, but I haven't seen it myself (he lives an hour away) and its possible he just isn't as picky as me
Thanks in advance.
I got the same thing on mines. Blue tint when not looking at screen straight.

when my buddy first got the Samsung Facinate, I remember noticing that weird blue tint. maybe it's a Samsung thing?
Voodoo color should come soon to fix that!

A blue tint of some sort, or cool colors in general are a product of the Super AMOLED screens, yes.
I don't think Voodoo Color would fix it in this respect, because I think it either has to do with the coating on the screen itself, or the way the light is refracting based on viewing angle.
I could be wrong...
like Trakman reported (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24834547#post24834547) when the brightness is set to low (automatic or not) the gray colour of my Lumia 900 is more purpleish. You can see it when the keyboard is expanded or in a screen with the Pivot, on the gray out items.
Anybody got the same problem ?
dial ##634# and than run the screen test. IF the color looks right than you pass if not fail and return.
I take a picture with the Lumia 800 and you can see that at low brightness the gray is not so gray.

UPDATE!!!
So, after reading the responses from my original post. I went down to the ATT store where I got my replacement Lumia 900 updated version for a low volume mic and they told me that the screen was normal after three reps inspected it and compared it to other Lumia 900's in the store that were not purple. They said that it could be because of the software update. I told them that my original phone did not turn purple in low lighting and others that have updated the software did not turn purple as well, but the still did not approve the replacement.
So, I went to another ATT store and told them about my purple screen and did not mention anything about the software update and they compared it to other lumia 900's in the store and approve my exchange. So, dont mention anything about software. There is definately something wrong with the screen. My new 900 does not have a purple screen.
Just get Rogers Support on the phone and they flag my device to be replaced. So I'm going to get a new one next week when stores have them in stock again.
I have this issue on an updated phone, too. Think I'll wait a bit before I swap my phone out--but it is annoying.
I also have this issue on my Rogers phone.
On medium and high brightness, grey is grey. On low brightness, grey is distinctly purple.
Should I bother taking it in or are they all like that?
Purple screen AT&T
I picked up a Lumia 900 yesterday on AT&T and have the same purple screen issue reported here. it seems go go away on manual brightness at medium level. The unit I exchanged this for would not even boot past the carrier logo screen. Very disappointed in Nokia's showing here and, coupled with its data issues at launch, it's lack of QC on this product. The large amount of negative feedback on the 800's hardware and software issues seem to be mirrored here with the 900.
this seems like a software bug .. hope nokia fix it ..
Mine has this issue as well.
Do we have a confirmation that this is on all or only some devices?
Us Canadians are very unlucky .. April 16th is done and still no update ... who is going to worry about Purple screen

Neither the Lumia 900 or the Samsung Focus were physically branded by Rogers. Its quite nice.
The Lumia 900 does have a Rogers boot screen though... I'm pretty sure that adds seconds onto the booting process...
I just got a replacement Lumia today and noticed the purple hue whenever the phone is on low brightness. It feels like a software bug to be honest. But it still sucks. First I had a headphone jack/freezing issue, now my screen turns purple at times.
They had a similar problem with some N8 phones, but as far as I know after couple of software updates it was gone. I doubt that this is a similar issue.. that would be strange considering the different software platforms, but in both cases its purple..
Mind pointing that out? At first I was convinced it was a software bug but then after looking up nokia purple tint it seems like its a hardware issue that was never solved. Customers are left having to go to the repair center or with Nokia telling them it's normal.
Well guys I just got back from the AT&T store. The replacement Lumia I received yesterday had the purple tint issue and both replacements I got today had the issue. I left with my original phone thinking it might be a software issue. None of the Lumias in the store had this issue though.
Yup, I have a Rogers Lumia 900 and I have the purple tint issue on low light.. I noticed it but it hasn't really bothered me so meh, I am just going to keep it.
Yeah, just returned my Cyan for the white one and I have the purplish tint also when it's on low light. Definitely didn't have this problem on my Cyan one. And I hope they can fix it with a software update.
I know this isn't terribly useful but I can confirm that my updated black Lumia 900 does not have this issue.
New Galaxy Nexus owner with Sprint. Well late last night I dim my screen cause it so freaking bright Noticed a lot of the greys turned purple and the white (stock messaging app) go a lot of grain in it. Looked like I had dust all in the screen. Is this normal? Looked similar to this picture
I play with my phone on minimum brightness all the time and have not noticed this.
It is possible I'm not observant enough though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
It's normal.
I don't get the purple hues...but I'm using custom color values.
Which have also reduced the grain. But it's still there.
I may be in the minority here...
But I hate this screen tech. It's my only complaint with this phone.
Nav-bar/Status-bar burn-in potential scares the **** out of me. (Although I don't have any yet...I have to assume it's because I'm so compulsive about hiding the nav bar and using apps that remove the status bar.) And the screen looks like complete crap when it's dimmed.
I mean, it looks GREAT at 30%+ brightness...but browsing in bed and such (low brightness scenarios) always makes me cringe a bit.
I currently have my old fascinate and nexus on hands.
I need to say that Samsung pretty much dropped the ball... :-(
Fascinate screen is so much better looking, though partially because custom ICS rom, which I guess incorporates voodoo tweaks.
I will happily wait while GN ICS gets to that state, but I afraid that it is hardware/ manufacturing process issue and I doubt if anybody will be able to fix it grammatically. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I heard something about gradient fix, but do not completely understand what was fixed and how.
My phone has a slight vertical tint on the right side. I pensive it as pink vertical stripe, followed by green one. Not extremely saturated, but noticeable at any brightness level. I've stopped by Verizon store to see if other phones have it. Out of two checked phones one had noticeable green stripe, another was OK to my eyes.
I got a deal on wirefly and now I'm kind of on the verge - exchange or not. I afraid to get one which will be even worse.
Well I just went back to Sprint and explain it to them. Well since the GN is new that Sprint has no tickets for the purple Screen. So the asshole tells me that it is a software issue and that the next ics update will fix the purpleish colors. I was like WTF it is a hardware issue hahah. I do thank you guys for responding. cant wait to get some Sprint roms avaialble. What do you guys think software issue?
No. its a hardware issue. My GSM doesn't have the purple tint at all. My fiance's first Verizon GNex was the same. One day it died and they sent her a new one and it's screen was very purple tinted. She sent it back and got a new one which didn't have the tint at all.
I would return it.
Thats exactly what I told them and they said to wait for an update. this pisses me off cause they wont let me exchange it at all.

i dont know if its hardware or software but you can try this. its supercurio's display expert and might help. it did get rid of most of the purple for me, still can see it with certain grays. as for the grainy white, my first galaxy nexus had that problem at low light too. its almost like a transparent cheese cloth over the screen and some lines running down it. i returned that one.
just keep trying with a different rep. the first one i talked to pretended not to see anything wrong with my phone so i talked to the manager and got the exchange after about 15mins. they were still very hesitant. try to call their call center first i find their call center reps are usually more understanding.

I have a purple tint, but only at brightness levels going below 15 (setting custom brightness with aokp), but the default brightness was at 19 so I never noticed until I started to mess with the settings. I think its normal, or at least I hope it is. Well now I want to ask, is it normal to have purple tints at really low brightness?
Three strikes and I am out. This is my first amoled screen so I am not really sure if it is supposed to be like it. I will try that apk and see if that works. Thanks buddy. I am honestly afraid to get another one and then it is fully a retarded phone so I will stick with it.
I'm unable to use that apk. Error says "There is a problem parsing the package"
Do you have link to thread or other location, please?
i dont know the exact post but its in this thread towards the end.
forgot to mention that you have to use a kernel that supports color calibration, im using franco's.

I have tried this, and under stock, cold and warm I still get a purple tint to my screen at low brightness (from 1-10) above 10 is usually when it stops. Any ideas?

Let me know how it goes, cuz I am rooted and running Franco kernel and still getting the purple tint.
the purple tint is still there for me too but the cold setting in that app helped a lot.
It is a hardware issue even though some software tweaks will help a little bit. My GSM gnex has this issue while my friend's gnex does not have it at all. I can't exchange mine because it is from Poland and I do not know anybody there. I just set the brightness to 50% and the issue is almost nonexistent. So my advice is to exchange it; try another store or speak to the manager. Good luck.

Ya for some reason for me thought it only happens are really low brightness. How about you?
I tried playing around with color calibration on one of my previous purple Galaxy Nexus phones. Got rid of the purple, but then things started looking too green or something.
Not sure how you can calibrate to fix colors at low brightness levels where purples become a problem and not screw up the colors when you increase the brightness levels. Doesn't seem like this would be a good solution.
I have just kept exchanging my phones. And I hate AMOLED, it's great when you get a good one, but it seems like Samsung can't make very many good ones.
Lol. If you're going below stock's lowest setting the purple graininess is normal. Get a grip people. Its a mobile screen and it has tolerances. If you get purple just lowest stock setting, I would say it is not normal but chances are Samsung will say it is within tolerance. I played with root dim the other day my screen got purple and grainy at 4/255 and below. Slightly grainy at 5/255 and 12/255. 13 and higher it was fine. 15/255 I believe is stock's lowest setting.
sent with 3g courage. better recognize. 4g courage coming soon. stock up on diapers.
So yesterday I got a replacement one from Verizon and as soon as I opened it I checked the camera and the camera was fine so I was glad about that. But unfortunately I accidentally updated and my phone suddenly had the issue. Again today I tried to use the camera and the camera was fine so I plugged it in to charge and put a case on it when I picked it up it felt a bit warm and I checked the camera and the issue began to creep up again. So to test it I unplugged my phone let it cool down infront of a fan and it was perfect again. Anyone else try this or am I over thinking this.

Every HTC One has the purple hue issue. Whether people want to admit it or not. The low light setting was set too low. Find a white wall or counter top , in a dark room, take a picture point blank, one inch away, two inches away, three inches away, they all have a purple hue. It's not until you back it up a ways so that light passes through that you see the purple hue disappear.
The first picture was when the phone was nice and cool. Second I took after watching a couple of YouTube videos while on the charger while the phone got warm on the same spot. I just think it's weird how that works. Is it possible that the sensors are being messed with by heat?

From the looks of the shadows and the lighting, the first picture, the whites on your bed are bright, the aluminum from your phone tells me you either have a light on or sun passing through a window. if you take a picture in a dark area, like the second picture where the whites in the bed are dark and the reflection from the aluminum on the phone indicate that a light is turned off or the sun has settled down, and your going to see the purple hue.
I think it's a software bug Verizon will fix. (they can't replace all our phones with new ones, or we'd get the shaft and get refurbed unit casuing an uproar)
anyway we will find small thing that help fix it but all phones eract differently and this camera software is prime example.

I do not have a purple hue on black or white. I had a little bit of purple tint when I took a picture of fire, but the camera was so good it captured the fire and the surrounding area as well.
Hey guys, come on over and join the purple tint party here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
Also, If you could answer a few questions about your phone (you'll find the info on the last few pages of the thread) that would be great. We are trying to find some kind of pattern to this issue.
I have the purple hue issue as well. I think there may be something to the whole "caused by heat" argument. If I power off my One and leave it sitting for say 10 mins and do a cold boot there's no purple/red/blue hue. Once I use the phone for 10 minutes or so it pops back in. I actually had it remedied for over a week and a half after doing a factory reset and cache wipe. Then all of a sudden it came back. THAT makes it seem like a software issue. So idk. Seems both are viable arguments based on my personal experience. I hope it's software bc it's annoying as all hell.
I wanted to add that changing the ISO to 100 that some people have had success with doesn't do anything for me except change it from solid purple to a light purple haze. A little better but still very noticeable. HTC addressed the issue and said it was going to be fixed with the 4.3 update so I'm curious if the Sprint users actually have seen the issue resolved or not.
UPDATE: I added a thread on the Sprint HTC board asking if the issue has been resolved or not. So we'll see what they say

My wife and I both got the HTC one on the same day. Mine has the purple hue in low light and hers does not. To test this I would open the camera and lay it down on my couch so the camera gets nothing but black. Mine will slowly turn almost completely purple and my wifes will remain completely black. She also does not have the tint in low light conditions. I also think heat may play a role. One of the first things I did when I got my phone was run multiple 3dmark tests to see how hot it gets and also test the performance of the graphics chip. I had taken pictures before this and noticed no hue until after my phone heated up really hot. Since then it has had the issue. I think the OP is on to something as I was thinking the heat damaged the camera myself. I also think HTC probably knows this and just wants us to think its a software thing that can be fixed. Even if you adjust the low light settings the hue can still be seen, just not as bad. I bet the update to fix this will probably be something that disables that portion of the hardware so we all just think its been fixed.
It not heat and was you and your wife's settings the exact same? I can get rid of the haze if I lower the iso setting and if I use HDR or night it goes away.
