Battery Saver + Tasker - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I cannot find a way to have Tasker find out whether the 'battery saver' mode is ON or OFF. (h815p)
what i'm trying to do is to create a task that:
1 - checks if battery saver is ON or OFF
2 - if ON, turn battery saver off and set display brightness to 91
3 - if OFF, turn battery saver on and set display brightness to 255
i was able to get tasker to switch BS on or off (though not 'silently') - but there seems no way to know if BS if ON or OFF.
any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS. not sure why this feature is not discussed more in depth, it almost doubles my battery life with it.

Anyone run in Power Saver mode all day ?

Just curious, for extreme phone users during the workday, has anyone tried using the M8 all day on 'Power save' mode ? Not the extreme mode, but the regular Power saver ?
How much does this mode save on battery life, compared to not using it ? But my typical settings, are no GPS, no Bluetooth, set screen to 50% - 75%, Greenify set to hibernate a lot of background apps.

[Q] Screen brightness modes difference

Hi, lately I was wondering if there is any difference in battery drain using normal or energy saving mode in brightness settings?
From the beginning I set screen energy saving on and slide the slider to line between 2nd and 3rd switch in pull down status bar. For some reason I need more brightness from time to time and I just turn off power saving so my screen gets extra ilumination which is perfect for me, but will this drain battery the same way as when I left power saving on and slide brightness slider to the right to make screen brighter?

Not much in everyday use.
It only works well in poorly lit environments and driving at night. I just set my brightness to 40% and leave it. I is bright enough for home/office and 100% for day driving.

Does ambient display affect Doze?

I wonder if turning on ambient display has any effect on exiting Android's Doze state, especially when compared to simple LED pulse notification.
I ask this because to my knowledge an Ambient display notification needs a full wakelock (since it turns the screen on) and this should cause quitting the Full doze state.
Whereas with pulse notifications, it shouldn't be the case.
I took an adb bugreport and inspected it with battery historian: the Doze line gets interrupted by:
- regular maintenance windows (but just for a few seconds, then resumed immediately)
- screen on events
Out of all the screen on events, there are android.policyOWER, android.policy:FINGERPRINT (so via power button press vs fingerprint unlock) and then there's a 3rd one, which is "unknown screen on reason". This one smells like Ambient display.
Then I also wonder, if I turn ambient display off and get a high priority notification (e.g. Whatsapp), Doze should just let it through, but then it should keep going without further interruptions/delays, right? So best efficiency possible.
Whereas whenever there's a screen on event, I can clearly see from the battery graph, that it takes some minutes before light doze kicks-in again.
Thanks to anyone that can bring some clarity on this topic
It does but with Naptime I find it the perfect combination I only drain 4% overnight.

Night Mode for Always on Display

Can anyone tell me if there is a built-in "night mode" on the 2XL? Coming from an S7 Edge there was an option in the settings that at a preset time the always on display would switch to a very minimal display that was only across one edge of the screen, it made for a nice alarm clock without being too bright overnight, then at a preset time it would revert to its normal settings of a large clock, displaying notifications, calendar etc.
I know I could use something like Alarm Clock Plus, but am trying to avoid having to install an app if there is built in functionality to do the same thing.
Thanks.
no
Short and sweet. Thanks. There are definitely a couple things Google could learn from Samsung on just small things like that though.
yep. but in the dark the ambient display is not bright so dont be afraid of burning your eyes.
The closest thing I have to what you are asking is using Tasker to turn off AOD when DND is enabled.
I have a profile to enable DND overnight, which in turn disables AOD.

That's not a bad idea, I paid for Tasker long ago (run it on my Nexus 7 in the car) so it would just be a case of setting it up on the Pixel.
There is a clock screensaver for when phone is plugged. I don't use always on display but want to be able to see clock without touching phone. You can adjust tue brightness of it via nightmode switch. Under display - screensaver h clock ...

In case you were wanting to actually implement this, I double checked how I did it, and it's with the paid plugin "AutoTools".
I turn the AOD on when I'm connected to BT in my car since it's on a mount and also off at 10pm. If the task runs when your screen is off you do need to turn your screen on for it to take effect. So I check if my screen is off. If it is I have it turn on and off briefly.
trigger always on using tasker auto tools
New Task
Plugin -> Autotools -> Secure Settings
Configure
Custom Setting
Setting Type = "Secure"
Name = "doze_always_on"
Input Type = "Int"
Value = "0" OFF/ "1" ON
I've done some testing and I can't tell if it even works...not sure if a reboot is required or what each time...maybe someone else can add to this.
The below article might be fine for a stock Rom, but doesn't seem to work on Nitrogen with a kernel/magisk.
You need to have ambient brightness turned on though, otherwise, the default values are used and these overrides don't work.

If you hit the battery saver before you go to bed that will deactivate always on.
Turn battery saver off in the morning and always on will be back on.
Should solve your problem!
Or just flip the screen over. That deactivates it as well.

I just lay a business card over the sensors, since my thin case has no lip!

battery saving can't be turned off

it's been driving me insane. as soon as my battery hits 75% the phone goes to battery saving mode. some apps stop sync, theme goes dark in the middle of the day and if a go to battery settings both battery saving and ultra battery savingare off, and the quick tile is off. the only solution i can think of is a factory reset. any ideas?
non-serious edit: apparently i'm a senior member. so show respect (?
I will suppose you have rebooted a lot of times so:
1) try turning on battery saver
2) go to the battery settings of each app that has a problem and set it to "No restrictions"
