Can the new Android N beta be trusted? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am considering running it on my daily driver nexus 5x I currently have it on my nexus 9 and it seems like this new update has really improved performance so do you think its worthy of daily driver status? let me know in the posts below!

It's being discussed in the... Android N thread. Imagine that.
You will find it it works for some people and not for others. Really, you need to decide for yourself if it functions well enough to be your daily driver.

CM 7.2

I personally think it would be nice to have this option for our GNex. Anyone else? By far the best CM ROM/Android release and quite polished. Think of the battery saving capabilities and overall performance/smoothness. How hard you guys think it would be to back port an ICS kernel?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
can't you do that? But its nice thought.. Bringing back the old is very bad when cm7.2 user crying for cm10

Why stop there? How about froyo or eclair?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it run slower since GB (as far that I know of) doesn't have HW acceleration?

Idk about you, but CM 7 ran better on my SII than 10/10.1 does on my Nexus...

Well I never experienced CM7 first hand so I can't really tell , I came to that conclusion since HW acceleration and performance boost was one of the most touted feature back then when ICS Iaunched I figure it was noticeably faster than GB.

Personally, the HW acceleration isn't much of a difference. BUT, all I do for games is Sudoku lol.

That's it. Tomorrow I'm downgrading my PC to Windows 98 and installing CM 6 on my Nexus. That should disable just about everything currently working.

Have you had the chance to see a G1 running Cupcake lately? That thing blasts away my Nexus in terms of speed opening the app drawer and the apps it has. BUT. Do remember: the older the OS, the less things it has to carry. You can't compare two different OS versions on two different phones. You can only compare the same OS version on two phones or two OS versions on the same phone.
I want donut on gnex which would still out perform iOS 6.1.

There is people with Galaxy Nexus who doesn't like ICS or newer Android version...
I don't like really much Gingerbread but it would be nice if there would be GB for Nexus because then battery life may be better but speed won't be much better and then there is less question threads about older Android versions...

You're talking out of assumptions here. Hell, what if the ported GN **** for GB makes it worse ?
I'm still waiting for a good report on how ICS saves battery vs. the look & feel of overall OS fluidity in JB. And now GB ? Give me break.
Seems that slow news days and lack of new stuff to flash is a killer combo for dumb assumptions without technical explanations or research of work to be invested to get mythical gains.

That's the reason IOS is so fast. It's so basic that the iphone doesn't have to load a lot of stuff like Android devices.

On my fascinate, comparing cm7.2 to cm10 was like comparing an oven to a microwave. Cm10 was massively faster, smoother, and more stable. It wasn't even kind of close.

Or a semi to a Ferrari lol
CM 7.2 (GingerBread acctually) is Windows XP of Android. Its stable and it still takes 50% of Android devices. It would be cool to see how it works on newer devices but its hard to backport it to newer devices so it would be just waste of time

Is it stable now?
"Update: This beta is not a usable build. Its similar to the Developer Preview i.e full of placeholder information. The only noticeable difference is that it seems to be a lot faster. Overall a very disappointing update for Ubuntu Touch."
Hells yeah, can't wait for voice and data to work.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Yeah, it'll be so awesome to be on a platform without apps again, like Android in 2009!
Shouldn't have been labeled a Beta if not even the core apps have been finished yet.
From what the article says, this is just a faster running alpha build.
But what can you expect from Ubuntu these days... ever since they tried more & more to emulate Macs, the OS has seriously gone down the drain.
will it open source?

No, it isn't. It's in beta says the first post on this thread.
Without GSM and data connection, we have to say it's still developer preview only

I agree 100%. A beta gives you all the core functionality without the stability and smoothness of the final product. Not software that can only be 'previewed' on the devices that it was intended for

SE Android builds on GNexus?

Stumbled across the NSA SE Android page at http://selinuxproject.org/page/SEAndroid and was wondering if there are any current builds in the dev forums (search has not turned up any... Any going incognito?). Curious to hear folks' experience using it... And how easily can it be uninstalled or replaced?

This is xda. Sooner or later one will be up. If you want a certain dev to jump, you might want to buy them a device. They seem to love that.

Give it some time. Device has been out for 2-3days
I'm more interested in kernels for CPU and GPU control.
I would like to see if the display colors can be modified like with the N4. If so, this will be particularly handy!
I'm already working on one...

I'm with you. And a few good mods.
If I could properly get the kitchen set up to work with this, I would start playing around.

Happy with the development so far?

Hey guys
I have this amazing tablet since a couple of week now..
I think the development has been kind of slow for a "nexus" device
what do you guys think?
Hard to get a lot of development going without a stable platform.
It's been through 3 updates since being shipped.
Remember, the first generation had a month or so head start, as there were a few hundred in the wild and the factory images released 30 or so days in advance of the retail launch.
There's stuff popping up... Just takes a bit of time...
Yeah I guess .. sooner or later roms like AOKP should pop up ..plus the European release just happened
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Yeah it's not officially launched in Sweden yet, I had to import which is no problem anyway.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Yep so we might start seeing better development in coming weeks
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Maybe it's not related with a stable platform
the nexus 7 has lots of hardware/software problems (wich have not been solved yet) maybe that's why.
and please dont ask for development, they wont hurry to make a kernel/rom just bec you make this thread
sorry if i look rude  but that's my opinion.
when i get mi nexus 7 2013 in september i wont start making a rom since first hours, i will first try it, enjoy it and when i get bored of the jelly bean 4.3 then i will make a rom.
maybe i am not the only one who thinks like this and that's why there aren't lots of projects so far.
--
and please, you have 4.3 android jelly bean, you want someone to make a port from a higher device? from a higher android version? wich one?
the devices who always have lots of development are for example an older device who gets a port from a higher one. or a good device wich has not many features.
anyway, you may be waiting for AOKP,CM,PA,etc.. just wait the good developers will release them soon.
Learn to do it yourself. Or shut up about it?

There's no need to be rude. It wasn't a complaint, it was an observation and I personally found some of the responses quite interesting.
