Happy with the development so far? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hey guys
I have this amazing tablet since a couple of week now..
I think the development has been kind of slow for a "nexus" device
what do you guys think?

Hard to get a lot of development going without a stable platform.
It's been through 3 updates since being shipped.
Remember, the first generation had a month or so head start, as there were a few hundred in the wild and the factory images released 30 or so days in advance of the retail launch.
There's stuff popping up... Just takes a bit of time...

Yeah I guess .. sooner or later roms like AOKP should pop up ..plus the European release just happened

Yeah it's not officially launched in Sweden yet, I had to import which is no problem anyway.

Yep so we might start seeing better development in coming weeks

Maybe it's not related with a stable platform
the nexus 7 has lots of hardware/software problems (wich have not been solved yet) maybe that's why.
and please dont ask for development, they wont hurry to make a kernel/rom just bec you make this thread
sorry if i look rude  but that's my opinion.
when i get mi nexus 7 2013 in september i wont start making a rom since first hours, i will first try it, enjoy it and when i get bored of the jelly bean 4.3 then i will make a rom.
maybe i am not the only one who thinks like this and that's why there aren't lots of projects so far.
--
and please, you have 4.3 android jelly bean, you want someone to make a port from a higher device? from a higher android version? wich one?
the devices who always have lots of development are for example an older device who gets a port from a higher one. or a good device wich has not many features.
anyway, you may be waiting for AOKP,CM,PA,etc.. just wait the good developers will release them soon.

Learn to do it yourself. Or shut up about it?

There are official CyanogenMod nightlies on CyanogenMods webpage if you want to try something new.

There's no need to be rude. It wasn't a complaint, it was an observation and I personally found some of the responses quite interesting.

When to expect Paranoid Android on the Note 2?

Strangely i didn't found people asking about that while searching on google...
Soon enough
Imilka has signed up for Note 2 dev list so we can expect a PA
Atleast i can say it WILL come. :good:
As ParanoidAndroid is based on cyanogenmod afaik, i`am afraid it still will take a while mate

It depends on Samsung, they have to publish the scource codes of the kernel and other hardware components or CM cannot go ahed and start coding.

They have posted. But the people in the US can't get a note 2 in their hands until November. That's the troubke

argh,
really, if paranoid (or at least cm10/11) won't be available soon, that will make me buy these LG Nexus or whatever else Google may show us
Right now, there are no official porters for CM10 for the galaxy note.
Samsung, by not releasing exynos/framework documentation, basically has made it too difficult to develop CM10 for it.
The Note 1 developers basically got fed up and quit until Samsung makes it more practical.
So no CM10 means no PA.
We can hope that a new developer takes the reigns, but as the other poster said: we're in for a long wait.

We have no official CM porters? since when are porters official its either original CM or ported CM
Anyways , atleast im more than 100% sure we WILL get ported cyanogen mod, and most probably PA too.
now ive used ported CM 10 on around 3 of other devices, and take my word if you havent tried it yet, a port totally depends on which device CM it is ported from. E.g. If we get ported cm 10, it will atleast be as much performing as CM 10 on S 3, whose hardware is resembling, because the porters will take as much help as they can from CM10 of S3...
And if CM10 may be ported, why not PA? its not like first CM has to be ported in order to port a PA second
Thats kernel source, not hardware sources, they are two separate things the CM team need both to make a fully working CM rom for this device (and any other modern Samsung device)

Just curious... International gs3 Rom's

Just curious, will we ever see roms like our international counterpart or could they eventually be ported over? I'm extremely great full for our devs and I hope this doesn't come off as a slight to them. I'm just asking out of curiosity. I'm assuming the flood gates will open up as soon as jellybean is released for our device and I would hope so because I hoping to stay with touchwiz roms.

Dev's would have to port them over, yes. So we could but someone would have to work on it. I'm hoping someone will port the sense4all rom when it becomes stable (may take a long time).

[Q]2nd-Gen Nexus 7 Question..

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,
Question: I'm strongly leaning towards picking up this 2nd-Gen Nexus 7 next week.. ( I have never owned the 1st-Gen ) and I know the 2nd-Gen is shipping with Android 4.3.. Since this is still Asus with upgraded internals, Will these 4.2.2 ROMS run on the 2nd-Gen? I know it's only a matter of time before 4.3 is ripped apart and reborn as Custom ROMS but I was curious if anyone thinks 4.2.2 would boot..
Thanks for any answers anyone can provide.. :good:
If these said ROMs were ported then maybe. Although I doubt it because 4.3 is better in pretty much every way so what's the point. 4.2.2 software made for the Tegra Nexus 7 won't boot on the newer architecture in the 2nd gen model (Snapdragon S4 CPU).

I think not. Wait for custom roms for the 7² to appear, which they will pretty soon I guess.
But you should definitely go for the new N7, it looks so much sweeter than the 1st gen...
direct ROM flashes Wont work, but if someone ported it over, I dont see why not. but that would probably take just as much time as it would to merge the features to 4.3 so no one will do it.

Thanks Everyone,
I can wait for the ROMS to arrive.. I just pulled the trigger on a 16 Gb from Walmart today.. It has enough out of the box to keep me going for now..

Cyanogenmod 4.4 General Discussion.

I have many questions about android 4.4 and I am sure many others do also. I have created this thread as an information database for AOSP 4.4. Also for any information regarding KitKat making its way to T-Mobile Note 3 and how development is coming along.
If its a Q&A shouldn't it be in the Q&A section? Rename it to Android 4.4 General Discussion, it sounds better

Regarding kit Kat making it way to gn3 it will probably be minimum 3 months but more than likely 6+ and probably the one of two point updates we see. I am enthused about 4.4 but not Samsung giving it to us right away. Eager to see Google wallet on our phones though.

Since the Nexus 5 is using the same chipset as the Note 3, getting some things going won't be as difficult. I'd give it 2 months before we see a "stable" enough build. I personally don't considering AOSP builds 100% stable as there seems to be bugs with them, IF it's running on a NON-Nexus device... Just a personal feeling on it though...
But those who do want AOSP, it won't take as long as some may think. Note 3 is the only device that's really really new still, G2's been out a little bit, if I'm not mistaken. But like I said, Nexus 5 uses S 800, like the Note 3. It'll come sooner than some may think....
Follwo their gerrit here to see the latest changes.... http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/statuspen,n,z

Is 4.3 on the G pad?

Sorry if this an obvious question, but I'd really like to know if I'd have to root/unlock it to flash some more recent Android version.
Speaking of which, how difficult is it to flash/unroot?
At least put an effort into researching.

No there are no roms for this tablet at this time.

Lmao post with no answer.. put some effort its just 2-3 keys "no" then "yes" WOOT!
No man not yet. They do have plans to.
It's true that the answer is a simple no. But I had to learn the hard way when I first jumped into this site a few years ago that people do not like to be asked questions that are easy to answer. You don't even have to look on this website. Simply look at the spec sheet on LG's website and you will see that it comes with 4.2 .2. There is already a rootkit out for the device but no roms at this time. I honestly don't think you need a newer version at this time. 4.2 .2 jelly bean does everything you need in my opinion. Otherwise get a Nexus device. I have a Nexus 4 running Kit Kat Paranoid Android and Franco kernel and I couldn't be happier. But when it comes to my tablet I just wanted for basic consumption and a stock Android is perfectly fine. Just my opinion.

What is it that you are going to gain from updating to 4.3? The bigger number? There is a lot more that can be improved in the ROM than going to 4.3
