When to expect Paranoid Android on the Note 2? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Strangely i didn't found people asking about that while searching on google...

Soon enough
Imilka has signed up for Note 2 dev list so we can expect a PA
Atleast i can say it WILL come. :good:

As ParanoidAndroid is based on cyanogenmod afaik, i`am afraid it still will take a while mate

It depends on Samsung, they have to publish the scource codes of the kernel and other hardware components or CM cannot go ahed and start coding.

argh,
really, if paranoid (or at least cm10/11) won't be available soon, that will make me buy these LG Nexus or whatever else Google may show us

Right now, there are no official porters for CM10 for the galaxy note.
Samsung, by not releasing exynos/framework documentation, basically has made it too difficult to develop CM10 for it.
The Note 1 developers basically got fed up and quit until Samsung makes it more practical.
So no CM10 means no PA.
We can hope that a new developer takes the reigns, but as the other poster said: we're in for a long wait.

We have no official CM porters? since when are porters official its either original CM or ported CM
Anyways , atleast im more than 100% sure we WILL get ported cyanogen mod, and most probably PA too.
now ive used ported CM 10 on around 3 of other devices, and take my word if you havent tried it yet, a port totally depends on which device CM it is ported from. E.g. If we get ported cm 10, it will atleast be as much performing as CM 10 on S 3, whose hardware is resembling, because the porters will take as much help as they can from CM10 of S3...
And if CM10 may be ported, why not PA? its not like first CM has to be ported in order to port a PA second

Thats kernel source, not hardware sources, they are two separate things the CM team need both to make a fully working CM rom for this device (and any other modern Samsung device)

A better question would be is a rom ever complete? There will always be bugs that are found that do need to be fixed just like Android in general it's never really "done" there are always updates to it that fix things.

Well you do realize that our phone is CDMA, Proprietary code is not available for some of the hardware which greatly increases the time it takes to develop our phones ports.
If you like the idea of a Complete CyanogenMod you should grab an international GSM phone preferably a stock AOSP device. You will have a "complete" rom alot faster than you ever will with a sprint device.
The OG epic only became officially supported not long ago.

There is no "official" GB rom from CM for this phone. Rootzwiki has an "unofficial" CM7.1/2 that's no longer supported however. We are getting "official" CM9 and the Alpha 1 is in the Dev section.

I think you mean to say there are multiple AOSP-based (original ICS w/o Touchwiz) ROMs for our phone.
Sbrissen and Darchstar are currently working on CM9 for our phone.
T.C.P. has released AOKP, Gummy, and Codename Android for our phone.

Anyone is free to take the CM code and build their own ROM. That's the beauty of open source. All they ask is that such derivative builds are labeled as kangs or otherwise make note that they are using CM9's codebase.
Anyone can become a member of CM if they do good work such as committing bug fixes to the project and take a role in supporting CM on a particular device
Darchstar's build should be considered the "official" CM9 build for our phone. He's part of the CM team. However, until he or others are able to build a working kernel from source for the E4GT and not use Samsung's we won't have a truly CM9 build.

No rom is complete without official ice release.. they don't even have source for our phones yet for ics. Therefore it cannot be completed.. plus kudos to the person who said it will never be complete based off of bugs plus there are always ways to improve a rom regardless; of how "complete" it is.. would you want a dev to make a rom then never update it? They can't make it official until everything is working..

Notice the carriers always pushing fixes. ICS will probably be updated within a month after official drops.
Just the nature of the beast.

Android has become more and more complex to develop for (both in terms of skill and computing power), and the true developers (not including people who just modify existing roms) have become more spread out across devices.

[PROJECT]Collaborative Sense Port

Hi
I've created this thread here in general to try an effort to a collaborative port of (any) sense rom to galaxy nexus, lets to the point:
I was trying a different rom instead of the stock. Why? Because a custom rom with sense provide lots of things that stock doesn't have (init.d for example). In my case, I was using Insert Coin for One X, because in the past I had some success with other devices.. well. I didn't had the same success with galaxy nexus.
Of course any rom can be used, we need success in this port disregard the rom used.
Obs.: For people unable to help and able to troll, this isn't a thread for trolling/blaming/"giving the unrequired opinion about it" or "why not buying a HTC phone instead", please, you can create your own thread for that or just use your facebook.
Thanks
I think there was already a thread about a wip port of sense and touchwiz that booted but some major stuff wasn't working.

I have one question about porting sense, what ROM is the best to use as base, cm10 or aosp?
I did some porting on my Droid 3 so I want to try on gnex also.
Thanks

Yeah but as I can see, they're focus in specific versions, and I don't care about versions since it works. And I want a specific focus in join efforts to port sense.

It's relative. AOSP will be more easily imo, but in other hand, cm10 can be adapted, since there's cm10 for tegra (so we can adapt the source code, if someone wants to give a try). I was trying with cm10 4.1.1 btw (cause the InsertCoin is 4.1.1).
My Octo-oraculus says that there are few other threads like this and NONE of them will end up with something actually usable.

Btw, I was thinking about trying backport the sense for Nexus S (since there's one port that was almost successful), the only problem is... the best port for NS is Gingerbread-based and I dont know how much effort will be needed to adapt a 4.x kernel with a 2.3 rom.

[discussion] aosp and cm

why dont u people try to build an AOSP rom instead ofa CM....coz probably cm is sumthing that is modifications made to AOSP....and even the touchwiz ui is modified AOSP so if we can have a AOSP build itll probably be easier for us to build these roms..
...if sum one is ready to help me learn about building roms from source ill sure try making CM's and AOKP and paranoid and what not
is better but its based on AOSP.....its like imagine AOSP as a stock rom and CM as a custom rom...wait why imagine..its actually like that....so the basic idea is to improve performance...where CM show up...but whats the base CM uses??...its AOSP....so if we have a perfect AOSP which is obv possible...coz Samsung wouldn't be able to build TouchWiz withouta base...for obv reasons...so why not try building an AOSP first and then continuing with CM
do u even know whatcha sayin?
tl;dr
Here's some math:
No sources = no base
No base = no sources
No sources = no cm
No cm = no aosp
So unless you try to find a way to make those proprietary sources available then I'd suggest doing some research.
Also even if you tried you'll fail, we have the best devs for sgy working hard for that goal and we're honestly not making good progress. Well except for percy and his cm9 and psycho's cm7 but still a long way from "stable as stock".
This post is in compliance with the national potato safety regulation.

My information might not be correct. A friend of mine told me this.
See cm is made by aftermarket developers keeping in mind that it can support lot of different phones.
On the other hand aosp was made for nexus phones so they don't give a damn that it works on other phones or not. They are just selfish lol.
So building pure aosp is tougher compared to cm. Cm has modifications on aosp to support different phones.

Naman...we haven't tried making AOSP yet so we cant just confirm this and it cant be that it was made for nexus only coz its an open source project so they must have probably kept in mind that many dev's will try to have it on different devices ..... the Gingerbread that our SGY uses is nothing but a custom rom of the aosp which we call as stock....
for obv reasons...samsung would not have made their own android os right...they have used google sources....the point is...the time dev's have spent on making CM if would have been focused on AOSP we might just have a build close enough to psycho's work!
and what ive learned or i might be wrong in this that psycho used aosp's sources for the fixes....Maybe wrong about this...i just read it somewhere here!.....and as our device has the largest community of awesome dev's why not we try the AOSP thing out??
we cant just conclude without trying...can we??......some months back people were like we wont have a CM....we have a working CM7 and CM9 which are working pretty fine except for the driver bugs....same way,we might just end up having an AOSP...
another hope to Young GT-S6310. need a great developers to make it true

Maybe you should see this. www.cyanogenmod.org/about
And also about android opensource project. Google gives aosp source to all manufacturers as part of aosp allience/programme which they further modify. And first phone running android was not nexus to say that they don't give damn about other devices. And the number of devices running CM is still very low.

man.. they are just stock based roms.. everyone is upgrading these days, android 4.3 has been released and you are still on 2.3.6. Which makes you guys really outdated..
Kernel? yeah there are huge number of kernels here but if you notice that most of em have same features See other phones like nexus 4. They have whats called "real" kernel development.
Pico which is 1k more expensive is 100 times better than this phone and you also know it. Why not buy that? I sold my Y for 3.5k and another 3k can buy you a arm7 phone. Which wont get outdated for another year atleast..

Because Nexus devices are devices that are made by Google's standards and android is developed for this devices by Google themselves. Then with the android source code (AOSP) manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Sony etc etc. are free to make their own rom for it, this is why it will always follow later, especially 'cause they have to make sure it is completely bugfree. Next to the big manufacturers we have ofcourse developers like CyanogenMod team and other good developers (i.e. from XDA!) who provide us from great roms too, and some even better than the stock samsung roms.

definitely by the time samsung releases official 4.3 there will be 4 to 5 more threads on the same topic for sure
By the time Sammy is almost ready to release 4.3, Key Lime Pie 5.0 will be out and they will then decide to skip 4.3 for Note II and go directly to 5.0.

Happy with the development so far?

Hey guys
I have this amazing tablet since a couple of week now..
I think the development has been kind of slow for a "nexus" device
what do you guys think?
Hard to get a lot of development going without a stable platform.
It's been through 3 updates since being shipped.
Remember, the first generation had a month or so head start, as there were a few hundred in the wild and the factory images released 30 or so days in advance of the retail launch.
There's stuff popping up... Just takes a bit of time...
Yeah I guess .. sooner or later roms like AOKP should pop up ..plus the European release just happened

Yeah it's not officially launched in Sweden yet, I had to import which is no problem anyway.

Yep so we might start seeing better development in coming weeks
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Maybe it's not related with a stable platform
the nexus 7 has lots of hardware/software problems (wich have not been solved yet) maybe that's why.
and please dont ask for development, they wont hurry to make a kernel/rom just bec you make this thread
sorry if i look rude  but that's my opinion.
when i get mi nexus 7 2013 in september i wont start making a rom since first hours, i will first try it, enjoy it and when i get bored of the jelly bean 4.3 then i will make a rom.
maybe i am not the only one who thinks like this and that's why there aren't lots of projects so far.
--
and please, you have 4.3 android jelly bean, you want someone to make a port from a higher device? from a higher android version? wich one?
the devices who always have lots of development are for example an older device who gets a port from a higher one. or a good device wich has not many features.
anyway, you may be waiting for AOKP,CM,PA,etc.. just wait the good developers will release them soon.
