I personally think it would be nice to have this option for our GNex. Anyone else? By far the best CM ROM/Android release and quite polished. Think of the battery saving capabilities and overall performance/smoothness. How hard you guys think it would be to back port an ICS kernel?

Well I never experienced CM7 first hand so I can't really tell , I came to that conclusion since HW acceleration and performance boost was one of the most touted feature back then when ICS Iaunched I figure it was noticeably faster than GB.

Have you had the chance to see a G1 running Cupcake lately? That thing blasts away my Nexus in terms of speed opening the app drawer and the apps it has. BUT. Do remember: the older the OS, the less things it has to carry. You can't compare two different OS versions on two different phones. You can only compare the same OS version on two phones or two OS versions on the same phone.
I want donut on gnex which would still out perform iOS 6.1.

I don't like really much Gingerbread but it would be nice if there would be GB for Nexus because then battery life may be better but speed won't be much better and then there is less question threads about older Android versions...

You're talking out of assumptions here. Hell, what if the ported GN **** for GB makes it worse ?
I'm still waiting for a good report on how ICS saves battery vs. the look & feel of overall OS fluidity in JB. And now GB ? Give me break.
Seems that slow news days and lack of new stuff to flash is a killer combo for dumb assumptions without technical explanations or research of work to be invested to get mythical gains.

On my fascinate, comparing cm7.2 to cm10 was like comparing an oven to a microwave. Cm10 was massively faster, smoother, and more stable. It wasn't even kind of close.

CM 7.2 (GingerBread acctually) is Windows XP of Android. Its stable and it still takes 50% of Android devices. It would be cool to see how it works on newer devices but its hard to backport it to newer devices so it would be just waste of time

Most likely NO. I cant imagine any developer (unless you want to take a crack at it yourself) that would want to waste their time on trying to make "MS Dos 3.1" run on a Windows 8 device

Faster as in ics needs a certain amount of memory for it to run properly. But I'm guessing cm7 don't need allll the memory available on gn therefore it would run much faster....just like a windows 7 computer having g now like 8gb of ram available and new processors....and if u install windows xp it will run very smooth and super fast..since that system never saw 8gb of ram in the past on a regular desktop....that's what I meant...but yeah it will never happen anyways

It has nothing to do with the ram.
Or maybe even symbian! From the 5110 with the original snake.... ya, THAT would be fast!!!
It won't necessarily run smoother as it wouldn't be optimised for running on the GN. Also gingerbread lacks hardware acceleration so that would make things ever so slightly laggier and not to mention possible bugs.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
There is not (that I am aware of) any device that would run smooth at 720p on Gingerbread unless the OEM added a hardware accelerated UI (for example, the Note).

I think everyone here has been pretty lighthearted with each other so far but this is getting real old real quick.
OP instead of making comments and making fun of your curiosities I will simply explain:
There are no driver binaries for G Nex hardware that work on Gingerbread, and that's the main reason this won't work. Just like you couldn't really build Froyo for the Nexus S. The hardware drivers are typically coded to work with specific versions of Android.

Hey I did some searches and couldn't turn up any solid answers to my questions but is it possible and likely we would get a port of the sense rom to galaxy nexus or is there a reason i don't see a stable version in CDMA Development?

I don't really see the point of porting Sense to a Nexus device. I mean, since it wasn't originally to this device, it will be buggy and probably never run smoothly. Sense is very beautiful, in my opinion, but it's bloated beyond usage.
On a completely unrelated note, my favorite two ROMs for the Galaxy Nexus are AOKP for its customizability, and CM9 for being, well, CM9.
True that, thanks for all your imput! I guess also since sense is HTC it would also work easier if it wasn't a samsung...I just thought it would be interesting if you could have the launcher and widgets minus the bloatware apps.

Some people like the aosp versions. Generally people have different preferences. I used to love MIUI and use it frequently until I came to the gnexus where the whites were not up to my expectations. However today jb version of MIUI is out and I'll be giving that a go. Hopefully will stick with it.

This for me also.
Saying it looks like an iPhone isn't the real reason because you can customize MIUI much easier with it's built-in theme engine - there's hundreds of themes available for it that looking NOTHING like an iPhone and NOTHING like aosp as well.
The reason it isn't popular here is because it runs like crap on the galaxy nexus. If you popped in over at the Desire HD or SGSII forums you'll see it's one of the top ROMs used there because it runs beautifully on those devices.
oh so miui isn't optimized for nexus ? one more thing is there a difference between aokp , aosp , cm10 ?
I don't like closed source ROMs plain and simple. Release your source so others can build on your success.

I just tried it out and it can't currently hold a candle to Jelly Bean in terms of UI smoothness. Deal breaker for me. Also doesn't seem as stable, and chews through battery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It is not as smooth as other roms. I like miui a lot, just not on nexus yet. Hope the smoothness comes back.
you guys that have never tried and think its too much like the iphone check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hICCWO8vaXU
It doesn't take advantage of GPU rendering and therefore is God awful slow and painful to view. Basically its not at all optimized for the nexus. You can change the scrolling style on the launcher, or use apex/nova, but as a workaround its a poor trade-off.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Why you ask? Because they refuse to release source.
sent from my Galaxy Nexus running RasBean!!!!
1. i'm not particularly fond of its smoothness or appearance. i ran it on my evo for about a day, just to see what all the fuss was about, but was not terribly impressed.
2. closed source. not because i really care either way about re-contributing to the community (sorry guys), but because i've spent enough time working with slightly-less-than-reputable foreign programmers to be cautious of it. before you start ranting about how i'm some kind of racist/anti-chinese douchebag, just stop. i'm not even suggesting that there are sneaky things going on, because it's awfully hard to hide those kinds of things from the rest of the community. their fierce determination to keep all their code/modifications to themselves, for some reason, just makes my spidey sense tingle.
guys today they just updated it to jellbean making it smoother
It's just not butter!!

Okay so I had a Dinc2 before this and my dad just got the DNA... I really miss Sense haha
To get to the point: I am nowhere near a developer but I think I could port Sense to the Gnex if I had some help. If anyone is interested in trying to do this let me know!
I will probably try to get Sense from either the DNA or the X, the X has the same screen resolution so it may be easier... either way lets see what happens! I've already tried twice and it failed. Like i said... I'm no dev
I have the vzw Gnex so i'd start with a toro build and go from there if we can get it working properly!
You have way more important things to worry about than screen resolution...
People with more experience have tried and failed. Don't waste your time, but try if you really dare. Like the other guy said, the screen resolution isn't the only problem. It's probably the least most important issue.

A sense port would be fun to play around with, but it was attempted about a year ago, and ended up being abandoned. There is do much that is closed source in sense that it would be an uphill battle to get it working. It would basically take an htc sense developer to make this work...
