A few issues i noticed right away with the HTC 10 - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I've done extensive testing and comparisons between phones and found the following issues with the HTC 10:
- Above average operating temperatures (37-42c)
- Weak Wifi Reception

The above average temp is because of full metallic construction and the position of the cpu on the back of the phone, just under the aluminum plate, therefore, the heat radiation is much faster (you will feel it like heating up compared to plastic phones).
I have not noticed any issue with wifi.

Things I really dislike about my HTC 10:
- Average Operating Temperature between 37-42c (gets warm way to quickly)
- Camera is average at best
- Power Button is flimsy
- laggy as hell, especially typing with Swiftkey is nearly impossible!!!!
I tried the following phones extensively in the last 2 months:
- Nexus 6P
- S7 Regular
- S7 Edge
- Nexsus 5x
Out of them all I liked the S7 regular the best so far.
I am not sure if I am going to keep the HTC 10. Not too impressed...
Anyone else having the same issues?

My phone isn't laggy at all. Sounds like maybe you got a lemon. Only thing is the battery life hasn't impressed me. It's not bad just not as good as I had hoped.

Please keep us updated. I think I am speaking for all of us here when I say that until you are happy with whichever phone choice you decide on, none of us will be able to sleep.
I don't mind what time of the day (or night) it is. Just email me or call my direct line. I will make sure everyone else knows within moments of receiving your update.
This is heart-breaking.

Build construction better than the 6P, better wifi and signal reception (6P was absolutely horrid) and battery life on the 10 imo is also leaps and bounds better than the 6P. Really couldn't be happier with this phone.

nobnut, I am so delighted that such caring and compassionate individuals are part of the XDA community.
After all, that is what makes this board such a great place for the fringe and disillusioned individuals (such as me) who are crying for attention.
Who in the wold can undestand the pain and suffering that comes with a less than perfect smartphone? Your message filled me with hope.....
Now, may I please have your full contact details to make use for your generous and selfless offer?
Thank you so much!

Ahahahahaha, I am just so sad and astonished that half of you asperger syndrome ridden geeks don't even get a good bit of sarcasm.
nobnut, the donation is real tho; for the sake of staying original but this is just hopeless.
Anyway, I wasn't trying to rant about the 10; just asking if someone else is having the same issues. Other than that, I had really high expectations for the 10 as i returned all other devices. I was really happy to make the jump away from samsung.

Heat. Only when I'm charging? I don't play games though. Just casual browsing and facebook. And music.
Lagging? Through the whole UI?
I get no lag, at all. I've also typed this with swift just to try it out.
Camera, definitely not as good as the S7. I had the S7E for two months. Took the best pics. But this one isn't a slouch. Just requires a lot of adjustments when wanting to take a good shot (typical HTC)

my issue with my HTC 10 was the subtle backlight bleed all around the panel's frame.
I loved the phone, up until noticing said effect on a green background. It wasn't the same as a light leak on a dark screen - this, I noticed on a green.
It was like the screen's borders where lighter in hue up to half a centimeter in width - I know it's too much, and I know I have OCD with such things, but for me was super distracting
Other than that, I loved everything about the device - camera, layout, colour reproduction, speed, sound. Everything

yup its because of the aluminum body, was the same with the m9. there was a mod to take the device apart and apply thermal paste if you search the m9 forums. its risky but i did it before, helped alot. would for sure void warranty.

You guys are hilarious love xda rofl

Has anyone tested the YouTube uploading on the HTC 10?
Here's what I've noticed:
* if I shoot a video in landscape mode, all is good and the video is updated correctly, in landscape mode - as expected
* if I shoot a video in portrait mode, the video uploads as a landscape video
I've tried different camera apps with the same result.

OCD and the GN... 3 weeks on...

Ok... Let me just throw it out there... Your GN is not "Perfect". It is not "Flawless". It's a unique piece of hardware that came off a mass production line. It is not identical to any other GN if you spend enough time examining it
In all fairness, I got my GN 3 weeks ago on Nov 25th. I moaned about a light (barely noticeable) horizontal band across the screen and only noticeable on very low light when scrolling.
3 week ons... I'm at peace. More and more threads (about the screen, dust particles, build quality etc) appear every day that confirm, the GN is not a hand made and individually scrutinized piece of swiss machinery. Nope. It was not manufactured in a clean room in the Jet propulsion Lab by NASA engineers in funny suits. It's a phone. Wait wait... don't go yet. I'm nearly done. The point is... After a week or so of bemoaning that it was perfect, I finally just started to use it, and...ENJOY it. Now after 3 weeks use, I could not be happier with it. Battery seems to have improved as time went on (or perhaps Im not starting at the screen so much anymore!) and I now treat the phone like a phone. A piece of expendable tech that I'll probably use for 12-18months.
Should it be 100% flawless? Perfect? Clean room hand built? for 700dollars? No. That money pays for the research and the technology in the phone. It doesn't stretch so far to include sapphire crystal display or hand assembly and post packing scrutiny by an OCD swiss guy with a loupe.
God damn it people, don't let a speck of dust, or a some slight variation in colour bands on the screen ruin your experience of a super device. If its flawed like a line of dead pixels, yes, return it, but if your really just unhappy because its not flawless, well don't be.. because nobodies GN is flawless. Look at it long enough and you'll find something you can pick at... Or you could jsut use the phone and marvel in its awesomeness and stop looking for a bit of dust you can only see when you get into the closet at night with a loupe, night vision googles, and an infrared lamp. Enjoy it
exactly why i'm just going to use the phone and not "look" for issues.
Oh my god, really? You write an absurdly too-long rant, that uses 5 too many smiley faces, telling us we should chill out over defections on our phones? If you have nothing to contribute, well you know..
There are way too many threads about nitpicking at every single little detail. I'm not saying the phones don't have issues, but the OP is right. There are way too many threads about such minor details where people expect the phone to be some amazing device as if God himself had created it. It's not. It's a phone.
I think part of the problem is a lot of people are buying it off contract and thus feel that since they are paying so much the phone should be devoid of any and all slight defects.

It's not just that people are buying it off contract. This happens with pretty much every phone. Every time a phone is released there are always threads where people say things like "What problems should I look for?" My thing is, if you have to seek out the "problems" then they aren't problems. And only on forums like xda do people obsess over the most minor "defects". The average consumer doesn't return a phone 3 or 4 times because if they go into a pitch black room and turn the brightness down all the way and then look at an all black screen they see some sort of imperfection. This is the type of unreasonable expectation of pure perfection that you will only find in these online communities. People are flat out ridiculous in how they overreact to the slightest "issue" they perceive themselves to have on their devices. To the average person they can use the exact same phone with the exact same "issue" and not have a single problem.

I agree with the OP. We should all be so lucky that the biggest problem we have is the slight imperfections on the screen. I've noticed the banding (streaks) on the display a few times already but only because it's been discussed ad nauseum. Do I like it? Not really. Do I need to obsess over it and return 3 different units for the same issue only to realize, that's just the way it is. It's not perfect but it's also not worth the amount of complaining that's been going on here. 36 hours in and I am pretty well pleased with it! The screen is gorgeous!
BUT, if Samsung is reading this, my message is this: What's your problem?!? Why isn't this thing perfect?!? I paid too much! I want signal from inside of a lead box! Work harder!

Buying a ONE X

Hi everyone!
I'm a LG O3D user (with great regrets...) and I have the possibility of a (almost) new ONE X, unbranded for €300.
I know that every phone as its issues, and I've read the foruns in search of those issues in the ONE X, but wanted to have a deeper insight on the everyday life with this one.
I really like HTC and having owned a Hero, and knowing the support (at least here in Pt) is good, I'm really thinking of it.
Thank you very much!
I have had no problems with my One X, but from what I have read there are a few things you should check out before buying.
Check the wi-fi signal, GPS signal consistancy.
I think those 2 are the most common problems and the most annoying ones. I read also something about a gap between the screen and case, but not sure about it.
All of those can be checked out easily (10-20 minutes) before buying, so make sure you do that! You would not want to shell out 300 to find out wi-fi does not work, or you GPS is incredibly inacurate.
Thanks for the info!
I'm testing it tomorow or the day after.
Whats your thoughts on the battery life?

Battery life is surprisingly good for me. After the first couple days i easily get over 12 hours before reaching 20%. Must say i love that the phone drains almost no battery when listening to music in my experiences.

The wifi issue normally doesnt substantiate until a couple of weeks in use, and so does the screen flickering issue. So far popular know issues include:
1) Bad battery life (~ 2 hr of screen time)
2) Over heating after 5-10minutes in use
3) GPS issue
4) Screen flex issue
5) Screen flickering (mostly solved)
6) Antenna issue
7) 3G connection
8) Gaps
9) Sense issues
And before you buy this you should pray to your lucky star that you wont get a dud one. I've seen people on this forum going thru so much stress w HTC and this phone.
Battery life there are days I think not bad and on others I ask myself what the hell? Despite having my phone for around 4 or 5 months I still do notice drops of 3-5% in battery life. I can't really make my mind up for this device. I can't tell if htc is going to improve anything on this device anymore or if that's just as good as it gets. It'll be best if you just end up expecting nothing from HTC. That will save you from having expectations that wont be met anyway.
Edit: by the way there is a battery life thread with a trillion posts in it. Just open it and come up with a conclusion yourself. Be warned though, you might see people with around 5 to 6 hours of screen time which seems really questionable to me. I would say the people posting screen times of anywhere between 2 to 4 hours 30 minutes screen time are legit.

One X user (Tegra version) since one week. Switched to the CM10 preview this weekend. Very good phone, battery life is on par with the rest. If you check the points mentioned above (also make sure the power and volume buttons are responsive), that sounds like a good deal. ROM community is very active, JB support already almost flawless. Also, the screen is the best I have seen on a phone so far.

Just go get a sgs3. You can expect a crappy design plus a display not as nice as the one x in my opinion. But you also get to have a better performance, little to no lag, much better battery life.probably less hardware faults etc. (You at least know what you can expect and you actually get it)

Honestly I think HTC has been playing the blame games and time buying strategies to the extent of ignoring customers and treating like crap. But still better than LG as far as I have known. And as someone has said, if you want a better chance of getting a drama free phone better get the SGS3, as much as I hate Samsung. But you're not gonna have that beautiful hardware and AMAZING screen (funny how i say this since I dont own it lol).
This is a co-worker who's selling its ONE X, so no S3 option for me...
I'm having a lot of trouble in knowing what to focus on, because from what I see (read), there are issues (as with every single phone), and I think the important part is the support by HTC being good.
On that point (HTC support), what do you think? Any experience with them?

Long term htc users: "HTC supporrt is great, they might lack a little at first, but sooner or later(probably they mean later) they will just nail the update properly and it will all function nicely."
first time HTC user(myself): i've yet to see any of the support and i honestly feel like i'm not in good hands but i'm still open for them to prove it. The only reason i haven't completely given up on htc is because of the people who have been with htc for a much longer time. They seem to have a much different opinion of HTC and their updates and what not.
Oh yeah, not to forget, rooting/flashing can void your warranty *HIGH FIVE*
in my opinion to have your HOX function properly, you're gonna want to root.
edit: since it's a co-worker you're probably going to be getting it cheaper, right? Which will probably make the OneX more worthy of its price.
First thing you're going to want to do is check if his bootloader says "unlocked" or "relocked" or "locked" - this would make it possible for you to lower the price and get it even cheaper
Well on the update point, I think LG just trumps every single brand on the market... They simple don't give us any... LOL
Regarding the list of possible issues, do you think it can be easily observed? or its more of a wear-by-time kind of thing?

Honestly! When i got this phone i was the happiest person on earth until i noticed a few problems here and there and this just ruined the overall user experience. There's something about this phone that tells me i want to keep it. Design is gorgeous, sometimes i just turn the phone around just to admire the awesome look of how it's built. When the problems start to pile up, however, you get really unsatisfied.
With later batches i heard the phone is supposed to be pretty good and problem-free. I believe the main issues that you won't see immediately is the WLAN issue and maybe a bit of a screen gap. Haven't really been hearing much of the flicker issues anymore.
How to notice the WiFi issue i'd suggest a google search or for you to look around @ xda forums. I don't really feel like explaining it. Actually, youtube should help you in this case --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKCJ4Ab2tIo

P.S. It will cost me €300, being that here in Pt, a new unlocked one costs €700...

Here is what I don't like:
1. When you wake up the phone from sleep there is a noticeable delay.
2. After you hang up the phone, there is a delay of about 3-4 seconds before you are brought back to the dialer.. Until then you're just shown the "Call ended.." message. Thats quite annoying because you have to wait another 3-4 seconds before re-dialing.
3. MTP.. I have never gotten it to work on this phone. After downloading the official Galaxy Note II drivers from samsungs website all I ever get is "Hardware missing" or something like that. I really miss the plain old USB Mass Storage.
4. When you bring the phone to your ear the screen turns black, (thats good), but after you take it back down to see the screen, there's a gap of about 2 seconds before it turns back on. very annoying.
So these are the 4 things I have noticed that I don't like.

I think if you press the back button or home button to go back to whichever screen you need, it works based on my experience.
Like if i just ended a call, pressing the home button takes me home right away without any delay.

What if you wanted to redial? Try it. You can't get back to the dialer without waiting 3 seconds.

You are complaining about common problems on different phones.

I hate how you have to press home to go back to the home screen after an end call. I want it to go direct to the home screen after a call ends. I had to install an app for that: "On Call End". Works great.

I don't think he is complaining, more just expressing his thoughts.
If they are common problems on different phones then that means exactly that, different phones. Not all phones. I'm not trying to be rude but I think all the OP was trying to say is that the four things he listed kinda bothers him, nothing more, nothing less.

The biggest complain I have with the Note 2 is the stylus not able to control the menu and back buttons.
I agree with you, that is the most annoying thing about this phone by far. It's one of the biggest reasons I don't use the stylus me consistently. Great point.

While I do agree that these problems may be minor: With all due respect, this is a website about mobile devices and development, and this thread is specifically for the issues regarding the user experience of the T-mobile Note 2.
There is nothing to say that the OP did not start a blog for starving families in third world countries on an appropriate website, or that he lacks common sense and or compassion towards major economic problems. . . as is implied by your remark.
Furthermore, problems must be addressed, not ignored. Many minor problems compounded can become a major one, eroding away the cumulative ease of use and overall responsiveness of the user experience.
Many people like myself regard our phones as valuable business tools rather than toys. It is important to have a high performance tool to efficaciously compete in today's "hi-tech" market.
Getting edge only speeds when using it unlocked on AT&T :banghead: yeah theres so little flaws I had to blame something it cant control .... yet.

I didn't like that it sometimes didn't want to charge as A/C...even though it was plugged in the wall it thought it was charging through USB which took for ever. Changed the USB cable and it seems to be working good now. So I had 1 thing I didn't like...not anymore! There's nothing I don't like about this phone! Ha!

Excuse me? Yes, we live in America and can afford nice things. That said, if we are spending $300, or as much as $700 or $800 off contract, we expect these products to continue to improve over time. The intent of this thread was clearly a constructive one. Developers can't know what we want improved if we do not voice our opinions. Get off your moral high horse.
I think the white is too warm or dirty in my taste.
Other than that, I have no complaint.

Does anyone actually LIKE this phone?

I ask this question but I want to upgrade from my iPhone 6. My last phone was a gs5. All I keep reading about and seeing on these forums are the complaints about this phone and everything people dislike about it. I like how it feels in the hands but if it is not functional, than it is a waste for me.
Does anyone actually like the phone? Does it actually work for some of you? Do some of you not have the issues that I read about on these boards?
Memory leaks, bad battery life, lags, reboots.. These terms scare me.
Is it worth the money?
All I really care about is flawless wifi calling and text messages actually being sent when on wifi.
Thank you
Well, the real question here is do YOU actually like this phone?
I personally love it. I've read complaints too, but then again much praise (like with any device). I've noticed though that people that come from iOS might have a hard time switching or detaching. I'd encourage you to go to a store, try a demo yourself and see if it's something you like. You always have a time frame to return the device anywho no?
Just my two cents.
Are you kidding, I would have sex with this phone if I could!
That's how much I like it.
I get phenomenal battery life, all my friends and relatives envy my battery life and power.
Every action on this phone is super quick and smooth, sometimes it feels or doesn't feel like I even touch the screen before it reacts to my input.
I constantly check for leaking memory but haven't seen not one drop or drip come out of this phone. Everyone complains about it but I have yet to see any proof of any kind posted here. A screen shot or log would do, but nothing, maybe it's fiction.
This is the phone reinvented by Samsung.
Nothing that I have used , sampled or seen or even read about compares to this superb feat of crafty workmanship.
I paid 700+ for this phone, peanuts, for what I got, sometimes I feel like I ripped off Samsung, it's like I got too much for the money I paid.
I'm getting a S6e tattoo on my face, that's how much I love this phone.
Sometimes I give it kisses, when no one is looking.
Pp.
Mine ended war and brought peace on earth! It's believed that when the universe was created, the blue prints were actually made on the phone by the ethereal gods that made us.
My cancer was also cured.
In reality though: This phone is AWESOME.
My phone is not laggy, I have AMAZING battery life, performance is super top notch (what's a stutter? What's a lag spike?). I understand how concerned it might be to plunge into something new (like a new handset), but trust me; This phone is the daddy of all flagships.
Honestly the phones alright. For something with the latest snapdragon I expected it to be a lot snappier than what it is. Camera is hands down awesome. But the phone as a whole I would give a 7 out of 10.

Screw it I bought it. Took advantage of the double your memory deal and got the 64gb for the price of the 32 in white. Free overnight shipping also. Just gotta wait till tuesday since its sunday. Already bought an UAG case for it and screen protector.
If I hate it, ill just return it in 20 days and keep my iPhone 6.
Heres hoping for the best
Welcome to the cult club!
I upgraded from the S5 because I have the JUMP plan, and it's almost a waste of money to not take the upgrade each year. I do miss the S5's waterproof feature, and I think the screen's quality was better (not the resolution), but the pure sexiness and feel of this phone makes up for it. This device really does feel good in the hand, and I refuse to put a case on it.
But, that said, when the Galaxy S7-or-whatever drops likely-next-year-around-April, I'll likely be upgrading and abandoning you guys. Sorry! >_<

Sad because this device has t even really taken off yet. If you look through the development of past HTC devices, we haven't come close to all the things that we can do with these.
I got my new HTC 10 just this past Tuesday and today (Saturday) I received my new case (Spigen), micro sd card, screen protector (Spigen), and charger. I am in for the long haul. I'm a bit disappointed on the battery life but I think it's because of all the apps running in the background. I installed Boost+ and hope that will help. Any other suggestion would be appreciated also. This is my third HTC phone (HTC Incredible, HTC M8, and now the HTC 10). I like HTC phone design and interface. I'm in for the long haul. Or at least until the next upgrade cycle ends.
To be honest, I will send it back today due to the followings:
- The charger stopped working at the 4th charging cycle (the cable is still working though)
- When I touch the lower part of the display near to the fingerprint sensor, you can see the touches on the display like on an LCD screen when you push it a bit harder.
upper part of the display is fine)
- The speakers are quite funny, you can barely hear the upper speaker (tweeter)
- The missing apps (like gallery, music player) are bad...I don't want to install a custom rom (losing warranty)
- The camera has issues and the quality is not good enough.... I am not sure if any software upgrade could solve that...
but yes I am just complaining and trying to find a phone which has a smoothness of a HTC, an audio quality like the Microsoft/Nokia mics, big 5.5 screen, android and maybe stereo speakers
Take zte axon 7

Although I didn't hate my AT&T branded S7E I'm enjoying my HTC 10 much more with root and leedroid and the added durability of aluminum vs all glass. I do miss wireless charging and private mode. But totally worth the trade off IMO.
Yep, I returned mine. Probably a bad comparison comparing stock with rooted phone, but the missing "features" doesn't work for me.
Comparing my Galaxy S4 to the 10:
- No wireless charging
- Buttons too far down (And can't turn off the lighting completely. Also prefer a physical home button.)
- *ROOT* Plugging it in to charge turns on the screen (Big nuisance to me. If my screen is turned off and I want to charge it, what's the point of the screen turning back on?)
- Stock Android Quick settings (despise this, taking up too much space and takes 2 swipes to get to it with one hand)
- No IR (came in handy quite a few times)
- Air gestures (handy when I'm cooking, don't have to touch the screen with my dirty hands while scrolling the recipe. Or when I'm working on my car.)
- Weight (maybe I have girly hands and/or holding it wrong, but it hurts my hands after long periods. Or I needed a case to have a better grip on it.)
- and other minor things I can't think of right now.

be as it may, they are entitled to their own opinion. if you disagree a healthy debate is allowed but disrespect and calling someone a troll is flaming and its not allowed here on XDA.
2.3 Flaming / Lack of respect:
XDA is about sharing and this does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) or rudeness. Flaming or posting with a lack of respect is unacceptable. Treat new members in the manner in which you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instructions when you can, showing them respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
If someone no longer has a 10 because they didn't like it, they won't be in this section anymore.
(if you bought a phone and hated it to the point of returning it, would you continue to stalk it's thread?)
Or people got rid of it and are still interested in the phone, hence why we have people who don't have 10's dropping by oftenly.
Someone's choice is not yours. If you want to get rid of it, go ahead. If you want to keep it, then keep it. You shouldn't need random people who you don't know make a choice for you that's hundreds of dollars worth. You have the device, you know what it offers. Does it suit YOU?

In all honesty, these kinds of threads are like ROM Vs rom threads that serve no purpose other than to start a war and troll. There's device reviews from multiple sites to read upon to see options available. Does someone really need a thread like this every week? I'm still trying to find out the purpose of these types of threads which can easily be solved by doing research.

Damn people are so sensitive. There's a reason they have a return policy. Do you not test drive a car before you buy it? I preordered this phone for a chance to sway me away from my 3 year old phone and it didn't. You can read/ watch all the reviews you want, study its features, calculate its pros and cons, it's still not the same as test driving it to its fullest. Keep getting butt hurt.

There were things that you already knew about.
