Things you don't like about the Galaxy Note II T889 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Here is what I don't like:
1. When you wake up the phone from sleep there is a noticeable delay.
2. After you hang up the phone, there is a delay of about 3-4 seconds before you are brought back to the dialer.. Until then you're just shown the "Call ended.." message. Thats quite annoying because you have to wait another 3-4 seconds before re-dialing.
3. MTP.. I have never gotten it to work on this phone. After downloading the official Galaxy Note II drivers from samsungs website all I ever get is "Hardware missing" or something like that. I really miss the plain old USB Mass Storage.
4. When you bring the phone to your ear the screen turns black, (thats good), but after you take it back down to see the screen, there's a gap of about 2 seconds before it turns back on. very annoying.
So these are the 4 things I have noticed that I don't like.

I think if you press the back button or home button to go back to whichever screen you need, it works based on my experience.
Like if i just ended a call, pressing the home button takes me home right away without any delay.

What if you wanted to redial? Try it. You can't get back to the dialer without waiting 3 seconds.

You are complaining about common problems on different phones.

I hate how you have to press home to go back to the home screen after an end call. I want it to go direct to the home screen after a call ends. I had to install an app for that: "On Call End". Works great.

I don't think he is complaining, more just expressing his thoughts.
If they are common problems on different phones then that means exactly that, different phones. Not all phones. I'm not trying to be rude but I think all the OP was trying to say is that the four things he listed kinda bothers him, nothing more, nothing less.

The biggest complain I have with the Note 2 is the stylus not able to control the menu and back buttons.

I agree with you, that is the most annoying thing about this phone by far. It's one of the biggest reasons I don't use the stylus me consistently. Great point.

While I do agree that these problems may be minor: With all due respect, this is a website about mobile devices and development, and this thread is specifically for the issues regarding the user experience of the T-mobile Note 2.
There is nothing to say that the OP did not start a blog for starving families in third world countries on an appropriate website, or that he lacks common sense and or compassion towards major economic problems. . . as is implied by your remark.
Furthermore, problems must be addressed, not ignored. Many minor problems compounded can become a major one, eroding away the cumulative ease of use and overall responsiveness of the user experience.
Many people like myself regard our phones as valuable business tools rather than toys. It is important to have a high performance tool to efficaciously compete in today's "hi-tech" market.

Getting edge only speeds when using it unlocked on AT&T :banghead: yeah theres so little flaws I had to blame something it cant control .... yet.

I didn't like that it sometimes didn't want to charge as A/C...even though it was plugged in the wall it thought it was charging through USB which took for ever. Changed the USB cable and it seems to be working good now. So I had 1 thing I didn't like...not anymore! There's nothing I don't like about this phone! Ha!

Excuse me? Yes, we live in America and can afford nice things. That said, if we are spending $300, or as much as $700 or $800 off contract, we expect these products to continue to improve over time. The intent of this thread was clearly a constructive one. Developers can't know what we want improved if we do not voice our opinions. Get off your moral high horse.

I think the white is too warm or dirty in my taste.
Other than that, I have no complaint.

Crazy lag??

Omg guyz are you guys getting this 1.3453379 millisecond lag when you push the home button? It's sooo annoying omg.
This phone sucks! I'm taking it back. Get this...I asked it to make coffee for me this morning, and it just laid there doing nothing!! What a POS!
Seriously people, this is what you guys complaining about stupid things sound like. I have a feeling the people complaining are either 13 years old, or have absolutely no life.
This phone is awesome in every way possible. The screen is HUGE, bright and bold. The colors are vibrant. The GPS locks in almost immediately. The speed is fast. It does have a slight lag when you push the home button but it's literally a millisecond long. Who the hell cares?
If you're on the fence about the phone, go and get it...NOW!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I was thinking about this myself yesterday. There's a line of tolerance that you have to set for yourself with these things. Sometimes I think that it's not that the people don't like the phone, it's that they are having the "grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" mentality. In the end of the day it's just a phone!

we went through this same crap when the sensaion came out. people were like this phone is such a piece of crap cause i ordered waffles and the waitress brought me eggs....i feel your pain most of these people with this phone will go away once development kicks off for this awesome device. I know its hard but try to ignore the stupid posts and they usually go away.
Is it possible that the home screen button lag is because double tapping home opens the touchwiz "voice talk" feature, and the phone hesitates for a fraction of a second incase it's a double tap? Do other non-tmobile SGSII's have this feature and behave the same way?
good point blue biscuit!!
Good call, can't wait to be able to remove that feature with CM7 (at least re-map it). If you guys want a nice sign of speed go to the gallery. I'm blown away at how fast all the images just drop into the gallery when you load it. Maybe that's just me though, coming from the HD2 with android...
With new phones comes new complaints and true they will go away once the phone has been out for a while. I really think people just need a way to vent. I got this phone and it didn't have siri. The phone looked like an iphone but didn't have itunes. Irritating but it's as easy as just ignore their posts.
Seriously people, if you have a problem just ask for help. Starting a new thread to ***** and moan is not going to solve the problem. If you get no help here and want to return it. Do it queitly and move on. Now I'm going back to playing with my phone. It's going to be making me lunch in a little bit and I don't want to miss that. This thing makes great eggs.

Very good question. The home button lag is odd and seems deliberate, no?
Regardless, there is no question this phone is slower than the other SGS II.

Iphone ringer switch? Need help.

you could use an NFC sticker
Theres an app called shush that lets you program the phone so it will automatically go silent at certain times of the day that you specify.
I use setting profiles, it lets me set profiles then conditions and actions for each profuile.
It knows when im at any of my offices, at home, asleep, in a meeting (calendar item) by gps, cells, time, lots of other criteria.
Its a little sketchy to program at first, but I have moved my settings to 4 phones now and its really slick. I dont have to remember to flip a switch even.
If you pull down the notification bar there is a tab for silent /vibrate/ normal
Obviously before u holster it
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Use to use settings profiles. Now I use Llama. Silence based on time/location.
Thanks guys. These options are cool, but a hard sell over the convenience of a physical master sound button. Let me know if you guys can think of anything else. Custom rom holding down the power button or something of the like?

Although I agree 1000%, I can certainly understand of an iphone user who is reluctant to switch again when they have finally got one that "just works"
An engineer friend of mine struggled thru all the pain of a slow/laggy POS android phone with all the asinine work arounds like juice defender/custom kernels etc just to eke out a little more battery life.
Since he is not into customizing the phone AT ALL, you couldn't drag him kicking and screaming back to ANY Android phone at this point..........
Nah, I'm just kidding around. I had a 3GS before my Inspire. It was OK, but that was about it. I don't miss it one bit, but I don't begrudge anyone for wanting simplicity.
No button to switch on the side like the iPhone. But I could also list so many things that the iPhone can't do or lacks compared to the Galaxy S3 so I don't mind that at all.
I have the iPhone 4S too and still enjoy my LTE GS3 over it.
I'm sorry but I think this thread is pointless. He either wants a better all around phone or he wants to stay with his old outdated pos phone. There is no physical button able to mute the phone with the screen off. If that is the dealbreaker he definitely has some issues he needs to work out with himself

I would disagree the OP is asking is there any solution for a specific criteria he has. The reasons behind it maybe questionable but he is still asking does the phone have some functionality he may not know about, which is fine. The whole point of this community is to share and exchange ideas, tips, tricks and educate. There is nothing wrong with someone asking a question about the phone at all many have found features out about their phones that they had no idea it had. What I am struggling with is what your post has at all to offer other than your personal opinion about another phone manufacturer and a potential insult to the OP about his friend. Maybe in the future rather than post something of no value you don't post or post something that has value to others.
-McMex
Coming from a Treo, a while back, I agree about the usefulness of the ringer switch. It is a nice simple, elegant solution and one of the things I miss about the Treo. The best solution I have found is one of the profile managers like someone mentioned. You can set it to silence the phone whenever a calendar appointment has a word you choose like "meet" or "call" or "lunch".

After typing this I realized I did a play-by-play of his review
Is the main complaint he has about this phone really a complaint? I mean he bought the phone knowing that there's no 4G LTE in his area, so how can it be a complaint if he knew this from the get-go? I bought this phone knowing that there isn't 4G LTE in my area so I, for one, don't complain about it.
I also like the build of the phone, I will agree though it does feel slick at times, like it will slip out of your hands like a wet soap bar! I too put a rubberized case on my phone to give it some more grip.
I agree with BWFBezerk, it's not a WiFI bug it's (ah hem, to say it like Apple).. it's a feature... this feature can be turned off without a problem, I disabled it on my phone...
12 to 15 hours battery life with heavy use, SWEET! I don't know what is considered heavy or light use, I use my phone about the whole time I'm at work from 8-5 and when I come home my battery is at 75%, I'm running Sonic FreeS3 0.1.1 and I must admit the battery life is insanely great.. I'm guessing his is stock ROM... I thought he said the battery life is definite "NO" not "GO" haha, my bad
SuperAMOLED is, in my opinion, the best screen ever... this is why I continue to get Samsung phones... from the Samsung Moment, to the Samsung Galaxy S II and now the Samsung Galaxy S III
As far as the speakers go, man I wish we had a front facing speaker for when viewing videos on the phone..
His case is sweet looking, my case has a kickstand on it too and it allows me to prop it up landscape and portrait
I'll have to agree with him, I really like the TouchWiz on this phone too... even thought I have a custom ROM on it, I only have that ROM on because it keeps the phone as stock as possible. One thing I didn't like about the stock TouchWiz though is the fact that the quicksetting automatically scrolled to the right.
Use the power button to get the recently used apps? Did he miss identify the button?
You know that 2 is more than 1, man I like this guy, he's doing a great review... I like how it's raw and uncut... real world as he says... no LINPack and all that...
I might have to hack my home button, I never use S-Voice anyway..
Direct Call is a definite GO!
Tap to Top, thanks for the explanation!
I can never get my screenshot to work swiping my palm from right to left, I can only get it to work from left to right... haha
I use Task Manager daily
This is a really good review, thanks for posting the link!

Floss does great. Always gives great reviews. Very honest and to the point, never wastes time.

Too big blah blah blah.

Not that I care what others think, but is anyone else sick of hearing the same "I could never carry around something that big" reaction from people. Everytime someone I know sees my phone for the first time I feel like I immediately have to defend it by showing them how it still fits perfectly in my pockets and how other phones are too small for me. Its mostly iphone users. I bet if they spent a couple days using my phone they would probably never go back to their small "squint to read on" screen.
Yeah, but after I show them the bells and whistles, and show them how great browsing the Web is our watching a video, they usually go...Wow...that is nice! I don't have to squint to see the screen. And that is why I got it!
Its just the green eyed monster talking. Ignore it.

Seriously, people who say that are just jealous. A genuine reaction is like... look how big it is, makes mine look small, etc.
Everyone I work with has an iphony. Once they realized how Superior my phone is over theirs they left me alone, lol.. However there is still one fool who now likes to say that I carry a "flat screen". His comment is so pathetic it speaks for itself. I constantly show YouTube and HD clips to everyone I work with now.. They secretly Love my Phone. I also let them know that I have Truly unlimited everything from T-Mobile for $77 a month. Lmao!
I show them the quadrant scores and giggle at their reaction. ^^.
I say that at least I've got a phone and a tablet. It is the best of both worlds in one device.

My standard answer is: look isn't that cool, my screen is bigger than your whole phone, so much more viewing area.
I get this a lot too but the size just feels normal to me now, I can't really use anything smaller(that's what she said). My ex had an iPhone 4 & it felt like a toy, I couldn't even type on it. I honestly wonder how people use anything smaller than 4.3 inches anymore. Boy, this is just one big long **** joke, huh >.<
I couldnt agree with this more
I rarely get that now. When I told people I was getting it they said that. But after I shoeed them an HD video, they all wanted one. Until I told them how much it costs.

i agree with all the pluses everyone has pointed out. after i explain to people that its better than lugging around a tablet, you dont have to squint, after showing them the multitasking split screen and bells and whistles they leave impressed. the main question or comment i get is "its so big it looks silly holding it up to your ear" to which i point out that i never ever even with a smaller screened phone held it up to my ear and that i always use a good bluetooth headset, so that point is moot for me.
I have coarse beard hair and sometimes oily skin which ruined my earlier phones screens so its been bluetooth all the way.
This phone draws a lot of attention its way and it's always been good attention. Everyone wants to see it or hold it and every single time that person wants to know where to get one and how much.

My uncle is exactly like that. He said the phone is too big for him and that he can't fit it in is girly pants. He went ahead and bought an iphone 5. I want y'all to convince me as to why I should get a note 2. I like to hear from the one's who owned a s3 and went to that note 2 also the one's who skipped the s3 and just went for the note 2. I'm thinking about selling my s3 on eBay for this phone. Just like to know of it's really worth it.
Anyone wants to make a Harlem shake video with me?
Nobody needs to convince you. Go to the sprint store and play with their demo for 15-20 mins, use the stylus the whole time.
You'll get your answer better that way because it IS a sizable size difference to hold and that's the biggest issue I've found so far. But I'm getting use to it darn quickly. ha

but the battery, the CPU, the screen? all big points to win with.
runs All day with Heavy use (games, chat, SMS/MMS, music, +plus all the other stuff), and some to spare for when i get home
(the only exception to this would be using Nav, but you should be powering your phone when doing that anyway...)
never stutters, never lags, runs every damn thing i throw at it, and sometimes two things at once. aaaaaaa. mazing.
movies/youtube look fan-freaking-tastic on it. pictures look fantastic. games look fantastic. reading feeds/pages/docs/anything at all, fantastic.
again, as far as the size goes?
got in a little tete-a-tete with some iFan on gizmodo about it:
Me said:
every single iPhone user that sees my Note2 wants it. not one exception yet.
even the 2 guys helping me in the Apple store wanted it.
not only do I get the envy of every single iPhone user, I also get the personal satisfaction of knowing my device is hands-down the top of the line in tech specs.
you can pretend to laugh at the size all you like, but Apple has not "innovated" crap in two years.

I know three iPhone users off the top of my head, instantly, who join me in laughing their asses off whenever we see someone with one of those enormous slabs of plastic on the side of their face. Seriously, we're not "pretending", our laughter and mockery is completely sincere. You look so silly. So now you have four, count 'em four, "exceptions" to your elitist arrogance... So no, the hands aren't down.

"elitist arrogance", that's incredibly rich coming from an iPhone user, dontcha ya reckon?
but sure, I'll concede that, the slab-on-the-side is hard to get over. (except I can hide behind it, avoid eye-contact from asshats in the street/on the train/etc. srsly, i've done it.)
but. no one is laughing when I'm watching a movie/YouTube, playing a game, taking/editing a picture/video, editing a document, using integrated Google Maps, texting a friend, reading a website/article/book, using speaker-phone, using my calender.... and sometimes two at once.
be honest, what percentage of time is your "phone" actually on the side of your face?

People laughing at the Note was short lived. Everyone, and I mean everyone that cares about smartphones in even the most cursory way, that sees my Note II is more than a little impressed.
Don't hesitate.
well i came from the s3 to the note 2. at first it felt really big in my hands but after like 2 days i use use my wifes s3 and im like dang this screen is too small lol! anyways pull the trigger you wont regret it. the s pen makes this device better than the s3 by itself but you will notice the faster processor and netflix is really enjoyable on this thing. i was going to get a 7 inch tablet but now i don't need it.
S3 is for women lol

That was awesome! I skipped the s3. Originally had evo4g. Great phone, but nothing matches this beast.
My wife used to laugh at me as she still has the evo. But seeing my pictures taken, watching videos, reading, etc...she keeps saying umm....hey, can I see your phone for a second. sure dear ...

Lol you wrong for that
Anyone wants to make a Harlem shake video with me?
I own the s2 s3 and gn2. The gn2 is in a category of itself. Never had I experienced this awesome batterylife in another phone. I was also concerned with size but that's now a thing of the past. As stated by other users screen size, faster processor and spen were the deciding points.

At first i thought the battery was not going to last the day with normal/hard use cause of the large screen, I was wrong the battery is just amazing will easy and I do mean easy last a day and then some.
Everything that guy said minus the never lags part..It indeed does have some lag, especially in the notification shade and the gallery app..seriously though the gallery app is annoyingly laggy..I've switched to quikpik but then you lose out on the special features that come with the note II..

Honestly i jumped on the note 2 as soon as it came out and sometimes do miss my s3. The size isnt an issue bc im 6ft 5 and can hold it with no issue. But the s3 is alot easier to handle with 1 hand. I sold my s3 and got a little over $500 for it bc i had alot of accessories so i only came out of pocket with about $150 for the note 2. If your happy with the s3 you will be happy with the note 2 bc it is very similar. But if you have to come out of pocket with alot of money to make it happen i wouldnt do it. I live in baltimore and theres some people offering $250 and there s3 for a note 2 and im considering jumping on it. Iam in no way sayin the note 2 is a bad phone all im saying is the s3 was and is still a very good phone and to me holds its own against any phone.

Let me tell u if u get this phone u will not be disappointed. I came from a s2 and the size in hand is a little hard to get used to but once u do it is all good. My girl ditched the iphone 4s for the s3 and she sometimes uses my note more then I do
