Fingerprint unlock still needs pattern - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

After setting up fingerprint unlocks, why do I then need to enter my pattern?

You probably set it so that you need 2 step authentication to unlock the phone. Funny thing is, I can't seem to find that settings. I'm pretty sure that setting is there when you first set up fingerprint scanner.
Try removing fingerprint unlock and redo the whole process again.

You should only need it on first boot OR you setup secure boot in security settings.

Correct PIN/pattern code is still needed to unlock on first boot or - on an already booted phone - if the fingerprint isn't recognized after the third try to unlock. In addition one can always decide to unlock via fingerprint or PIN/pattern, as this is running parallel.

Do you have some sort of gesture to lock the screen? Like you can if you use Nova Launcher. If so disable that. Should work normally afterwards.

[Q] how do I disable screen unlock by keyboard flip

I have my phone setup so I can use a gesture in cm 6.1 to unlock the screen. As a result, I have android screen lock security disabled and I have cm disable the sliders.
Now here is the issue:
The phone can still be unlocked by simply flipping the keyboard open. The only way to disable this as far as I know is to enable android screen lock - which in turn means after providing the unlock gesture I again have to provide a passcode or pattern.
Can someone please advise on how to prevent the keyboard open from unlocking the screen without enabling the stock android screen lock security. It would be much appreciated.

I don't believe this is possible. No app, setting or otherwise I've encountered is able to keep the keyboard opening from unlocking the device. Your best bet would be to google search something like "disable unlock when keyboard flipped out G2".
I found the solution. Used the screen off app posted in the g2 dev section. Made a tasker profile to launch it on keyboard open and display unlocked. Relocks the phone if anyone tries to unlock with kkeyboard.

Quick access camera from lock screen

To access camera on lock screen, I need to disable secure lock such as pattern lock or pin code lock so I can access camera from lock screen. Otherwise, it will unlock and ask for code to unlock before start camera. This annoy me.
If it possible to access camera from lock screen in case to enable pin code locked?
I remember that HTC incredible S ui can access camera from lock screen directly even the phone was enabled pin code lock.

Bump this post.
I have corporate security on my Note 2, and I am unable to access Camera while locked. However you can do this on the Iphone. My policy administrator says it is a bug in the Android system. I have root, so I should be able to adjust anything. Anyone know where to make the change so that I can use my camera without unlocking my phone?

Can not remove pattern unlock

I just got a Note 2 for AT&T, I rooted, flashed Team Asylums slim and fast ROM, and everything was been awesome until... I decided to set up a pattern unlock, and did. But I lost my lock screen shortcuts so I decided to remove the pattern. When I go into setting and enter my patter again I only have the option to enter a new pattern, a pin or a password -- the none, slider and face option are grayed out **see picture below** Any ideas?
Is your device encrypted?
No I do not have it encrypted and it is not an administrator issue, I think it is related (aside from my stupidity) to a VPN app (open VPN for android) that I started setting up but deleted before I finished. I'm guessing it left a security certificate in the system that is preventing me from going without a secure lock screen. I think it is time to swallow my pride/factory wipe and stop goofing around with settings I don't understand.

[Q] Fingerprint issues

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the fingerprint scanner on the Verizon variant?? It works fine most of the time but occasionally, I'd say 1/3 of the time, it says "Pin required to us Fingerprint". Any ideas on what this is?

Are you using something like Nova's gestures to lock the phone? I discovered that locking by any means other than the power button will cause a pin/pattern to be required the next time it's unlocked.
I am. So you think anything with admin rights to the lock screen is the issue?

Basically. Just having apps in the Device Admin list shouldn't cause it, but it one of them performs an action like locking the screen, it triggers a PIN unlock.
Awesome thanks so much for the info[emoji106]

Believe after the first time when the phone is rebooted, you have to put in the pin. Not sure if randomly after that a pin is required. If not mistaken, there will be a message on the screen if you read it really close.
Any solution to this yet?
i had an issue like this with my HTC10(unlocked on VZW) i just added another(i.e. the right thumb again) finger at the angle i normally tried to unlock it with and it now works flawlessly.
The issue was using Nova launcher gestures to lock the device.

So are you looking screen with power button now? I've raised the issue in the Nova thread, hopefully this can be resolved.

Yeah I just use power button now. It's not a big issue but just a little inconvenience

From what I understand, I don't think this is something Nova can fix. I believe it's a security measure within Android that disables the fingerprint unlock when locked by anything other than the power button.
Does your fingerprint sensor had issue like litle "klik" when you press it down? You need to put your ear to hear, but i need to know is this normal or my sensor is broken?

Fingerprint + Password/PIN/Pattern, possible to require both every time?

This is all based on the stock ROM, but I would be interested to hear if it's different in any of the custom ROMs that are available.
So, if you set up a fingerprint, you also have to set up a PIN, Password, or unlock Pattern. After the first fingerprint unlock after boot, it requires this extra security, and then stops requiring it until after some timeout has passed, or until a number of failed attempts at fingerprint unlock. It is also then super easy to accidentally unlock the phone by literally touching it in the wrong spot.
I would like to have my phone require both a fingerprint and a PIN, Password, or unlock Pattern. "Something you have and something you know" and all that.
Is there an Xposed module that would do this, or a custom lock screen that could be installed? Thanks for your help. I've tried searching about this and have not found anything helpful.
Fingerprint unlock is treated as a lower security level than password/pin/pattern.
When you boot, device doesn't really require both (just turn the screen on and slide up and the security you chose will be promted)
