Hi, My desire usb charge port is damaged. to get it to charge i have to keep moving the charger cable to various positions and get it just right to begin charging.
i sent it to htc for warrenty repair and they said It is not covered.
they say the part to replace is £3 or something and like £20 labour plus another £20 for the postage and for them to check it over.
i never responded when they emailed me to make a desicion to go forward with the repair. is it something i can do easily myself at home?
i only say this because the part is so cheap.
thanks
sam
Bump, any response welcome
Hi,
I would not attempt this myself. I have read of others who have tried this and failed. I had to return my desire to HTC (under warranty) and the service was excellent. Personally, I would send to HTC. Are you sure that this is a usb problem? I had a similar charging problem and changed to another USB cable and it worked fine. Although I had a new board fitted my USB when it was repaired the usb port still has a slight movement but I never have problems charging.

I don't think it's a good idea to get the slot replaced by yourself, it's not just like replace the LCD screen or what. Just give them the money and let those people get it repaired as soon as possible.
I agree.
I have not attempted this myself, but as you've already sent it to them, you will have to pay 20£ now anyway as they charge this for checking it.
you will have to pay the spare part too if you do it yourself so that's another 3£ on your bill (if you can get it in a shop near you. if have to order it, then you would have to pay postage on top).
So even if you manage to do it by yourself you'll be effectively saving 20£. In my opinion, that's not worth it, considering that there is still the danger of bricking it while trying to repair...

Agreed on the cable. I've gone through a couple that get loose and give me hassle charging. I had the same problem and used my other halfs newer cable from her Desire and . . . . bam!! . . .charging perfectly My guess is that's all it is.

I also would say you this that dont take the risk of attempting it your self, get it repaired whatever it may cost..
I wanted to know that is there something(alternative) one can buy to charge the battery if charging port does NOT work at all.
I'd say , pay for it. Don't try to repair it yourself. You'll mess it up.
I have the exact same problem. I have to bend the cable a little upwards for it to charge. On another charger it works fine. I have to admit, that it's a bit annoying. Paying about 50 € for a reparation or 3€ for a new cable. Simple answer
So I really messed up my phone. The phone wouldn't charge. After doing some research, I learned that the charging port can become faulty and needs to be replaced. I tried to solder it off using this method (YouTube: Samsung Galaxy S3 Charging Port Replacement Model numbers i9300 i535 i747 l710 r530 t999). (Sorry, xda won't let me put the link in this message) However, that made it even worse. I then got a heat gun and tried to remove it off that way. Long story short, I think I fried the charging port connector. I know, I know...I'm an idiot. So instead of just replacing that little metal charging port, I now need to replace the entire charging piece (sorry, don't know what to call it). Does anyone know where I can buy one? I see a bunch I can buy for the SII and for the Note but I don't see any on Amazon or Ebay for the SIII. Can anyone help a brother out and point me in the right direction? I hate to have to buy a new phone. Thanks.
You might find it easier to get a working motherboard from Craigslist or Ebay or such. Don't bother doing just one piece.
Do please make sure beforehand that the IMEI of the new Board has not been blocked by Carrier (Both ATT 7 TMO) as Stolen or such.
Dont limit yourself to just craigslist ebay and amazon either. There are online stores such as etrade supply that have just about any part you could need. A lot are in China though so make sure you use one that is in the US. Etrade supply is based in china/hk, but recently opened warehouses here, so shipping from them shouldnt take a month! There are others, you just have to search.

My microUSB port is messed up and will not charge by wire anymore. I got this device as a gift from my family. Do you think I should have it repaired?
If you are comfortable soldering a new one on then yes. If you are looking to buy a new daughter board then it is not worth fixing. Just buy a wireless charger
I have a Nexus 7 2013 16GB Wifi Model, and i bought it to a local repair shop. But it seems i was ripped off as the repairman could not repair it.
I noticed that some of the circuits are missing from my Nexus Logic board and Nexus no longer boots up.
Can anyone please help me determine these circuits? Here is a picture of the logic board.
All that is marked with a yellow star in the picture is what i am asking about...
Code:
drive.google.com/open?id=0B7LGwJIcFvH1WUtyNWZSTnhYRFU
And also are these parts important? Will the tablet work even without it? Where could i get a replacement of these parts?
Thanks in advance.
P.S Sorry for bad ernglish
What was the original problem? What is the board's revision number?
If it is rev.1.4 and the components are unsoldered/missing, then you were indeed ripped off.

Yeah mines the same revision to the picture you attached. (ME571K_MB Rev 1.4)
The problem was that my nexus was charging really slowly but i didn't really put much attention to it. Then one day while charging my nexus i accidentally dropped it and the charging port went loose so i sent it to a local repair shop to fix the port.
The repairman said the charging ic was also the problem. but then after a few days they still couldn't repair my tablet.
They returned it looking like a mess.
battery wires were a bit chipped off. (No problem here, i used a tester if it still has a connection to the board)
the charging port was soldered upside down.
copper pads covering the circuit was removed.
some of the plastic parts on the speaker looked melted probably due to the solder mishandling.
So is there still a solution to the missing chips?
BTW. Thanks for the reply.! :good:

The charging IC is probably gone if the port was soldered upside down and powered up. The missing components can not be identified because N7/13 circuit diagram is not available. A working, second-hand N7 motherboard can be purchased for $25 on eBay and it's the cheapest solution. Let us know how it goes....
:fingers-crossed:
Oh ... so it's really busted huh. Thanks for helping me out.
But buying another logic board isn't one of the options i have.
I guess that i'll have to sell it somewhere then.
Thanks again.!

Sell the daughterboard after you fix the port, it only has the touch IC and should be good. Those are worth quite a bit. So are the screens especially if you include the frame. Just selling those separately should be enough to get you a n7 2012 or even a 2013 if you get lucky.
Hi, I used my phone just for 15 days and it wont charge. I went to the repairer and they said the charging ribbon is defective and they don't have parts. Still didn't find the part. Anybody know good place to get the charging ribbon shipped to Sri Lanka. Should be cost effective though. I tried e bay. the part they sent doesn't work.
