Desire 820s Charging ribbon - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I used my phone just for 15 days and it wont charge. I went to the repairer and they said the charging ribbon is defective and they don't have parts. Still didn't find the part. Anybody know good place to get the charging ribbon shipped to Sri Lanka. Should be cost effective though. I tried e bay. the part they sent doesn't work.

Mini USB Broken Off

Halp!
My Mini USB connector on the back of my EXEC has literally broken off. It looks like the metal pins had become brittle and simply snapped off when i connected the USB cable.
I've opened the unit up to investigate further and all the pins have simply snapped off. The pins for the mini usb are tiny, and my soldering iron isn't up for such a small job.
Anyone know if its worth getting it fixed, attempting it or replacing the mobo or w/e else anyone can think of. I love my EXEC and will be rly upset if I cant fix this.
Other than that, what alternative is there to the EXEC, as I think its the bestestestest ever!
Please help, thanks
I have a similar problem I have recently moved to Calgary Canada from the U.K. where I got my Orange SPV M5000 (Universal). The other day I dropped it while I had my charger plugged in and it damaged the mini-USB connector. now I know this device is not available in Canada, but can anyone tell me where I may be able to have it repaired in Canada.
Just had mine fixed
Hi
I had the same prob just weeks after buying my exec on ebay. After searching around, I got it fixed for £10 GBP at Microtech GSM in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. Works fine now, so I'm going to buy a battery charger & spare battery from GPSforLess.
Good luck!

Desire won't charge easily

Hi, My desire usb charge port is damaged. to get it to charge i have to keep moving the charger cable to various positions and get it just right to begin charging.
i sent it to htc for warrenty repair and they said It is not covered.
they say the part to replace is £3 or something and like £20 labour plus another £20 for the postage and for them to check it over.
i never responded when they emailed me to make a desicion to go forward with the repair. is it something i can do easily myself at home?
i only say this because the part is so cheap.
thanks
sam
Bump, any response welcome
Hi,
I would not attempt this myself. I have read of others who have tried this and failed. I had to return my desire to HTC (under warranty) and the service was excellent. Personally, I would send to HTC. Are you sure that this is a usb problem? I had a similar charging problem and changed to another USB cable and it worked fine. Although I had a new board fitted my USB when it was repaired the usb port still has a slight movement but I never have problems charging.

I don't think it's a good idea to get the slot replaced by yourself, it's not just like replace the LCD screen or what. Just give them the money and let those people get it repaired as soon as possible.
I agree.
I have not attempted this myself, but as you've already sent it to them, you will have to pay 20£ now anyway as they charge this for checking it.
you will have to pay the spare part too if you do it yourself so that's another 3£ on your bill (if you can get it in a shop near you. if have to order it, then you would have to pay postage on top).
So even if you manage to do it by yourself you'll be effectively saving 20£. In my opinion, that's not worth it, considering that there is still the danger of bricking it while trying to repair...

Agreed on the cable. I've gone through a couple that get loose and give me hassle charging. I had the same problem and used my other halfs newer cable from her Desire and . . . . bam!! . . .charging perfectly My guess is that's all it is.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I also would say you this that dont take the risk of attempting it your self, get it repaired whatever it may cost..
I wanted to know that is there something(alternative) one can buy to charge the battery if charging port does NOT work at all.
I'd say , pay for it. Don't try to repair it yourself. You'll mess it up.
I have the exact same problem. I have to bend the cable a little upwards for it to charge. On another charger it works fine. I have to admit, that it's a bit annoying. Paying about 50 € for a reparation or 3€ for a new cable. Simple answer

[Q] IC socket burnt on the motherboard

Hey
i spilt water on my phone, a samsung galaxy nexus i9250 and i did the mistake of charging my phone after a few hours.
Now the phone doesn't charge at all. But everything else works perfectly without any problems. i have to remove the battery and charge it using a wall charger and put it back to use the phone.
i opened up the phone and found out that the IC socket on the main board which is used to connect the Charging Port Flex Ribbon and the connector of the ribbon is burnt.
i ordered the charging module off ebay, but its of no use if the socket on the motherboard itself is burnt. (6 pins of the socket soldered on the motherboard)
I just wanted to know if its fixable and if it can be fixed, can someone tell me where i can get the part.
I live in india where the phone wasnt released.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Replacing USB port

Seems my USB port needs replacing, I first thought I may have had some lint or something inside there as it wouldn't charge but after checking with a flashlight one of the pins had bent completely.
The only thing I can find for the original desire is eBay ID 380759842289
Can anyone confirm if this is right, or where I could purchase one from the UK.
Are they hard to replace? Would it just be the case of removing the 2 lower t5 screws, taking the antenna out of way and then what? Are they soldered on or ribbon cable?
Cheers
I had a similar problem, my device couldn't connect via usb but it was able to charge, so my first thought was the same as yours (about the lint). I tried to clean it and I found something like a little wire which was out of its place.
I ordered a usb port (about 1.50 euros) for that model and I followed this guide on youtube to disassemble the device /watch?v=8sYB_AM_jHE
You have to dissolder the old one and then solder the new which is a little bit tricky. It Worked!
For the replacement parts you can search on ebay for htc desire g7 its the same or use google you will find a bunch of them.

Charging Port !

Hello, So for past the month i am having problem with my fire phone. I live in Pakistan, Lahore so i bought it when it was not so famous and i did not get an original charger with it. I got LG Charger. But i was not at my house and i was at my cousin house and i had a small wire so i connected my phone with it to wall charger but my phone was hanging i charged it from there for 10 - 20 minutes (MY BAD). So i left my lg charger at home so at my cousin house there were couple of chargers and i used Lenovo one. Now i have been back and my lg cable was not working. So i started to search for cables and i found one that worked with my phone and it was giving pretty quick charge. Now lately it is not even working. Just flashing the screen with charging / not charging. So i tried wire of samsung and it worked! But i have to force it properly into port. So i am in pakistan and i dont think i will find a charging port easily. I wanted to know if the port is bent only or it is partially working can i just take it to repairing shop and have them remove it and place it again ? Properly ? Will it work or not ?
I think your charging cable doesn't have some pins in his head, you should try to charge the phone in fixed position, don t move the phone, try more position, move the cable's head when is connected, left and right.
I am having the same problem
