"Vendor img out of date" message on start - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've just received my N5X and put it on DU. Everything was fine until I flash gapps. Everytime I start the phone, I get this message "Vendor image is out of date, please get the latest version" or something like that. I tried to flash the vendor img from there (can't put the link but it was in a post on xda) but I still get the message.
I don't know if it's related but It seems like I can't sync my contacts with my Google account.
I hope you understood my poor English. And thank you in advance for your help

I did it with the img. provided by @nathanchance in his pure nexus post. I don't know if it was the right one but I flashed it and still got the message. :-/

Does someone know where I can get the proper vendor image for DU official-10.2 for nexus 5X MHC19Q?
I don't know if it can resolve but I can give it a try.
Thanks

DU 10.2 uses MTC19T, but download either the MTC19T vendor from Pure Nexus or download the full 1+GB factory image for bullhead and extract the vendor.img form the download:

Thanks a lot! And by any chance, do you know why my contacts doesn't sync with my Google account?
Edit : everytime I want to add a contact, it says that it's not gonna be saved online but I can add an account. But when I enter my Google account it says that this account is already linked with my phone...

I prefer to clean flash Dirty Unicorns at night cuz I have to wait upwards of 30 minutes for my Google account to finally sync. If you just clean flashed, let the phone sit while connected to WiFi for a short period and it should work eventually. Make sure to install all your necessary Google Apps before doing so. I always have that problem with my contacts.

Clean flash means wiping everything? Cache, dalvik, data?

@Defcon08, sorry I didn't see this earlier. Use this post to figure out which vendor you need in the future (the second option is universal for all ROMs).

[Q] NO Android Market

Hello All, I've just flashed a custom rom (cyanogen mod 7) via the wonderful noob-proof videos hosted by linksloveandroid. Everything worked perfectly but now I don't have the android market on my phone. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Baab.

Flash gapps on top of the rom. Its basically legal crap so Google can't Sue or something. This is normal

Thanks for that, I installed successfully but now I'm getting the message, 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.' when I try to set up my google account. I cannot get to the settings in my phone until I've set it up. OOPS. I feel I'm so near to success, please HELP. Thanks again baab.
Connect to Wi-Fi and do it
Yeah, just needed to skip initial sign-up procedure, should there be a gapps icon in my applications now? cos I can't find one. Sorry to be a pest, but nothing seems obvious anymore and theres no android market icon either, damn.
Okay just fixed it. The problem was that I didn't clear user data and cache before flashing gapps. Thanx to All. baab.

[Q] Dinc2 can't talk to Google - i think Google hates me

Perhaps someone out there has a suggestion for what i can do to fix my phone...
Ok, so I rooted my Dinc2 last spring, then that phone died, and i got a replacement Dinc2 and rooted it. It was working fine until it apparently heard that i got an iPhone for work, and now Google won't talk to me.
Or more specifically, i can't get my phone to connect to Google servers. I can't add a new Google account, sync my e-mail, connect to YouTube, or pretty much ANYTHING involving Google, at this point.
In searching for a solution I've seen various instructions from "delete/clear data/cache for Gmail' (now it just says "waiting for sync"), to 'do a factory reset' (um... not if i can help it)...
One suggestion i saw involved removing the Gmail account and re-adding it... unfortunately, i can't add a different one, so therefore i can't remove the one that's already been added.
I've also seen suggestions to edit your hosts file - and I am running the Magnolia 2.1 ROM, so it has an ad-blocking hosts file (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509997) . I figure that could be the issue, however i can't change it.
You see, after Gmail started acting stupid, i was trying to get into Google Play to re-load/update/something the app, but Google Play also wouldn't connect, so i attempted to refresh that by un-installing the updates (thinking it would auto-upgrade back to the google play, but with a fresh install)... so now i have Market, but it won't connect to the google servers.
What does that have to do with the hosts file? i dont' happen to have a terminal app on my phone, and now i can't install other apps, because, well, Google.
I suppose i can check out the Amazon appstore for a terminal app, but at this point, i'm over my head as far as deciding a good course of action from here, and was hoping someone would give me some advice (or a solution, other than re-installing my nandroid backup that's a few weeks old...) *twitch*
Try relaxing gapps, then clear cache and dalvik... If that doesn't work, wipe data completely.

Yes it does...totally missed it. And I think a gapps reflash is the most likely fix too, but what do I know?

Thanks everyone... reflashing makes more sense... :silly:
No i haven't tried a different rom, this one worked fine for 8 months - then i had to move it onto a new phone - which (once i got the tacoroot to actually work) was also working for two weeks even after i swapped phones, and did a recovery restore of the whole thing...
then it stopped working for some reason.
So, i gave up last night and did a recovery restore - but just a cache wipe/davlik wipe and restore didn't work -- so this morning I did a factory reset and then the recovery restore and it seems to be working again... hopefully it will keep working...
Now all i need is to restore my sms that i backed up before trying the restores...
I'll be back if it stops working again...
Er... i thought it was working... at least now Gmail and Play don't instantly crash when i try to open them...
but after 5 minutes, gmail still hasn't gotten any new mail....i'll try removing the account and re-adding it... *sigh*... this is how it all started the first time it broke...

Yeah, I did that much --
The issue is that the phone won't talk to Google... as in, Google play can't connect, adding a new Google account to the phone can't "establish a reliable connection", manually syncing gmail does nothing...
and, apparently, flashing GApps didn't help...

Sorry for misunderstanding you on the reflash!
In any case, here is where i am - tried recovering the ROM + Apps (using a recovery backup) to what used to work the beginning of Jan... didn't help - in fact gmail and play crashed when i tried to open them.
Did a factory wipe and recovered again -- this time they open, but they still do not connect...
Flashed the GApps... still no connection (but also no crashing - so that's something)...
Where i am -
Internet works (can get to www.google.com and searches work)
Google search bar works
Gmail just sits there
Google Play tells me connection timed out (regardless of how many times i "retry")
Google maps works fine
Accounts & Sync - "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"
Add New Account - Google - (sign in to existing...) hangs for a good LONG while then says "Could not establish a reliable data connection to the server." (and in smaller print) "This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Costumer Care"
x 1000
Other errors: Activity Google sign-in (in application Google Services Framework) is not responding (force close/wait)

Both - i did a restored backup after a factory reset (which got it so i could open the google applications that had previously been crashing), then i downloaded gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip and installed it... which didn't help.
see my response to Prototype7 as to where i am at the moment as far as errors...

You're on a different rom than me, but try this:
Go to Manage Apps, find google services framework, clear data.
then go to google play store (or market), clear data.
Reboot.
If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you.
It doesn't sound like you have done: factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system: flash rom and gapps and start from scratch setting up your rom. Only restore the minimum from titanium, especially until you have figured out if it is running stable.
thanks...

The Manage Applications / clear google crap broke it the last go round -- (well, clearing data didn't, but reverting to market from play screwed it up)... so i think my only hope is start from clean rom and don't do any Titanium restores of any Google-made apps... especially since all my titanium backups are from after the issue presented...
I guess this means i can pick whatever ROM i want now... since i have to start from scratch anyway... maybe i'll finally go to an ICS one...
*sigh*

For gapps i used this package https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347833783 its pretty basic but gets you what you need, make sure to do a factory reset after flashing it otherwise the setup wizard will fc.
Now all we need is root
Used these gapps, follow the instructions though, use "touch 'filename' " in TWRP terminal for the file creation. Gapps on 6.0 is struggling right now, but these instructions worked for me.

it is a userdebug image, so at least in adb you have root

Maybe we need a kernel that supports root. That's how it is on the Nexus 5 anyway. I don't know if any of the lollipop kernels would work on this. Maybe I'll try that sometime soon.
Just an FYI.....
Updating Google Play Services (required for YouTube) sends it into a FC loop.

I've noticed it has been pretty quick. Did a full wipe and used the system.img from his website. Used these gapps. https://github.com/XorgMC/gapps-mm/releases/download/v1-mini/gapps-mm-mini.zip
Also, if you use those gapps it will say it failed if you try to restore your apps. Hit skip and it will say restoring. It will take a long time to install the apps. If you lock the screen and then unlock it swiping from the side to open the google app you can use the device while it restores your apps.
I havent had any issues related to the rom, just the gapps. Google app fails when i try to search something.

A newbie who want's to get into Android P

Hello guys!
Here I am, seeing tons of reviews on Android P and I actually like it quite alot but I have some few question which I hope I can get through this thread hopefully! I would appreciate it
1. How can I back up everything on my current Oreo where in case something happens I can just go back?
2. If I update through the phone instantly, will all my contacts, apps and all other information still be there?
Basically i'm mostly scared about getting my data wiped since I have everything flawless made, with contacts, settings and so on, I do hope maybe you have more tip for me than I asked for - I assume you know which point i'm trying to head aswell!
Would appreciate everything!

If you are rooted, make a twrp backup of your data partition and save it to your pc. If you are willing, you can then fastboot the DP4 with the -w flag removed. This should put you on DP4 with all your apps and data in tact. However, beware of bugs! If you choose to go back to 8.1 Oreo, you'll need to clean fastboot the latest 8.1, which will wipe your phone. However, after you install twrp and root again, you can then restore your data backup via twrp which should put you back to where you started.
If you are not rooted, you'll need to sign up for the beta release, which will give you an OTA that will wipe your phone, and you'll be on a clean install of DP4. If you opt out of the beta, you'll get another OTA that'll wipe your phone and put you back on 8.1.
And there ya go. Piece of cake

Code:

EDIT:
Download QuickShortCutMaker
In the search bar (in the app) type in "Demo Mode"
Click on the "System UI" option
Click on the "System UI demo mode" option that appears after clicking on "System UI"
Click the "Try" button
There you go, you can now access the system UI tuner again, without having to install nova launcher
I tried this and worked flawless!

Install an OEM Rom (to bypass google authentication)

Hello!
I have been using a z2 well for the past 3 years. I like it so much that I purchased about 2 years ago a used z2 as a back up. Well, now I am going to send my primary z2 for battery change, so I tried to set up my back up phone for service, but I am stuck on google authentication. I used to be able to log on to my google accounts without any problems, but after I changed to a treble rom, the phone asks for a google account of the previous owner, it seems.
Just installing a rom (AospExtended-v5.8-z2_plus-20180813-1655-OFFICIAL.zip) and not installing opengapps doesn't help because it still asks me for email account.
So, here is my question. Is there anyway for me to wipe the phone storage, system partition, install a factory rom, so that the phone doesn't ask for previous owner's account?
I downloaded tool-all-in-one and verified that my pc sees z2, but not sure how to proceed from here.
I would really appreciate your help on this.
Thank you!
