Hello!
I have been using a z2 well for the past 3 years. I like it so much that I purchased about 2 years ago a used z2 as a back up. Well, now I am going to send my primary z2 for battery change, so I tried to set up my back up phone for service, but I am stuck on google authentication. I used to be able to log on to my google accounts without any problems, but after I changed to a treble rom, the phone asks for a google account of the previous owner, it seems.
Just installing a rom (AospExtended-v5.8-z2_plus-20180813-1655-OFFICIAL.zip) and not installing opengapps doesn't help because it still asks me for email account.
So, here is my question. Is there anyway for me to wipe the phone storage, system partition, install a factory rom, so that the phone doesn't ask for previous owner's account?
I downloaded tool-all-in-one and verified that my pc sees z2, but not sure how to proceed from here.
I would really appreciate your help on this.
Thank you!

1. U can qfil stock rom and unlock bootloader.
2. Don't select option of restore account while doing initial setup.. Always select start as fresh option ..
3. Wipe all from twrp.. Select wipe internal storage as well..
You can go for any one option.. Should work .

Hey guys, just wondering if it's possible to change my main google account without factory reset? I know it was possible on older versions of Android, from what I've read, but is it possible on GB?
Thanks
Try the following:
Go to Settings -->Accounts & sync
Press on the account you want to be deleted
Press "Remove account" on the next screen
Tried that, when I select the dummy account I registered with it won't let me delete unless I do a factory reset
It worked for me on CM7. I added a second Google account and then successfully deleted that newly added account.
I tried to do the same the stock non-rooted sense rom, and got the same reply. Had to do the factory reset. Maybe it will only work on rooted phones, or perhaps only some custom roms. I don't know.. Is yout phone rooted? Do u run a custom rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Yes my phone is rooted and is running CyanogenMod 7 (CM7), but I really doubt that this has to do anything with me being able to do what I've described, as this is a standard Android functionality provided by Google itself, and not a third party hack/addition.
BTW, are you trying to delete the only one currently existing account? Maybe if there is only a single account, then it cannot be removed... just a thought. I created an additional account just for the test and then deleted it, and did not mess with my true account.
The main account signed into on the phone is locked until you hard reset - no way to change it otherwise
Yeah, I'm on MIUI and I've added a second account but can't delete the first one. Which I don't care much about - but I can't change my Talk account to sign in with a different one, which is what annoys me..
Anyway, thanks for the help guys
I got my Zenfone 2 today and when I set up the phone, it is not automatically downloading any apps when I sign in. I have tried both just signing in to Google and the tap and go method to no avail. My previous phone, a Nexus 5, is set to back up my apps and this process has always worked before when I switched phones.
Any idea as to why apps are not downloading? Thanks.

Unfortunately not. I was using my backup phone, a BLU Dash 5.0+, so I did not have that option. But my ZF2 did come up and asked if I wanted to install from any of my previous Google backups. I chose the one from my previous phone, an LG Optimus G Pro, and away it went downloading every app.

Weird, it did not ask me that at any point in my set-up. Thanks for the data point.
Initial set up process should walk you through this setup. Please try performing a factory data reset.

I tried a few factory data resets and the set-up process never offered to restore apps from my backup of my old phone. I finally bit the bullet and downloaded them individually from my google play account, but it was tedious.

I assumed you reset your phone while it's still locked and you forgot your Google account, is this correct?
If yes, then sadly there's no way to unlock the phone without your former Google account, as far as I know.
This was made by Google to prevent theft on your phone as explained in http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...evice-protection-feature-and-how-do-i-use-it/
And what about people like me who are the phone is locked by mistake?

Try pulling your sim card and resetting again. When it starts up DONT turn on internet.. When you get the "configuring your phone" screen use power and volume up 4 or 5 times then power and volume down 4 or 5 times.. If it doesnt work keep trying. I just randomly pressed the key combinations and it went to a "skip activation" option and bypass google FRP.. (i was stuck on the configuration screen and it didn't give the the chance to log into my account) Once your in ADD YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT TO THE PHONE AND RESET IT AGAIN.. youve just effectively took over the phone. Hope that helps..
when i install a custom rom (viper one 4.2.1 or 4.3) i get the following error please sign in using one of the owner's accounts for this device. when i install the RUU for AT&T developer i can log in just fine with my account.
anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Go back to your functioning rom and remove the google account (might want to do a backup first!). Then do the flashing etc and sign in with your account as a new device.
The problem is googles factory reset protection. Its designed to make the device useless if the phone is factory reset without being unlocked first.
The other way is factory reset from android settings, then flash, then sign in to your account as a new device.
Google needs to address the fact that frp is too strong and needs to add another way in to devices in the event of accidental lockout.

I am having the same problem more or less.
I have bought a Nexus 9 from another person.
I did a factory reset today and I cannot sign in now.
Will this solution work? How do I go to funcioning rom, etc?
This is a "Google" security feature... When you wipe a device and then set it back up, if you didn't delete the Google account first, it will ask for those "original" credentials. Only way around it is to completely RUU the device back to the latest stock image. But I've heard some devices still have issues since the SN or IEMI is associated with the previous users Google account.
So, if you buy a new device... ALWAYS make sure the previous owner deleted their Google account first, or have them there when you go through the first few setup screens to enter their credentials....Then after you enter your credentials, you can reset it.
Just kind of mirroring what shivadow said
OH no! I am having this problem with a newer device!! Please help! It has been about 22 hours since I tried booting a custom binary with a non-unlocked OEM lock! I'm waiting to try to sign in to my Google account until 24 hours passes! I might have to wait 72 hours! Please review the post [LINK=http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/s7-edge-canada-boot-to-twrp-t3509603]here[/LINK]...I don't know if I posted that right so cut and paste this if that link doesn't work:

Hello all, I ran into a problem after flashing a the Nougat beta. I flashed back to MM from a TWRP backup and got a Can't log into MI account error notification message. Tried to log in but it won't accept my password. Verified password by logging in Mi account on PC. Then tried wiping reinstalling Nougat beta and MM from firmware but always get stuck on the sign into Mi account in setup. The correct Mi account is showing on device and website. I can't understand why the phone won't take the password. Love the phone but hate the way they baked this Mi account in. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Probably an issue from backup, nougat encrypt phone, try these:
1 - Format data (that decrypt the phone), advance wipe then reinstall backup, if not..
2 - Format data, advance wipe, flash rom and then flash only backup of data, uncheck others, if not....anyway, reinstall rom and apps from begin, I think it works without problem

Thanks for the reply, after emailing tech support back and forth for 2 days they finially asled me to turn the find my phone feature off in MI Cloud via PC. Once I did that I am able to sign in. Yes I read that once I unlocked the bootloader I could no longer use find my device but since I never went into Mi Cloud I didn't realize you could turn it off there.
